Curious little puzzler. Very original
Really fun game. The tutorial is a great feature, the game is fun and the art is really cute. I would add some kind of feedback when you receive damage (maybe tint the player sprite red for a brief moment?)
Congratulations!!! The game is quite fun and really well crafted.
I ran into a couple of issues playing the html5 version that someone might have already commented: The mouse cursor running out of screen is a bit annoying and, sometimes, the game kind of suddenly changed where I was aiming to point to the ground.
Fun and addicting! Great game!!
The music and the atmosphere of this game are impressively well crafted. The gameplay felt a little bit too simple and repetitive after some time. All in all, this is more of a visual experience than a mecanic-intensive one, an impressive one that is. Kudos!
Thanks for playing the game! Yes, the sound of the wolve is me. Well, every sound in the game is just me shouting to a microphone and tweaking it a little bit with Audition.
I agree that it lacks some kind of tutorial but I did run out of time (I'll need to plan better for the next jam).
@neowhoru the original idea was to encourage the player to think ahead what he needed to build as they would run out of space
@aycan Thanks for the report. I will check the path generation.
@thuvareyn Thanks for playing!
@abc64 the game really really lacks a tutorial (which would have been a better time investment than trying to tackle randomness for a compo, noob mistake on my part. Using isometric view was a complete gamble, I had never done that before. I still have to learn how to work with 3D modeling and I went with 2D sprites... I am quite happy with the result, to be honest. Thank you for playing!
@raymoclaus I should have invested time to work on a tutorial. You could mute sounds in the pause menu, but I should have made clear that there is a pause menu and that the player has the possibility to mute the sound effects. I will try to improve communication on my next jam. Thank you for spending some time with my game!
@pbg You are right. It was definitely too ambitious for a compo, that was a noob mistake on my part and something to learn for the next jam. I thought of using music21 to create some music but I could not get my audio source for the music to work and I run out of time.
Loved the music and graphics. One of the most polished games I have tried so far! The game is quite fun but I think trying to fight and using your basic abilities is not rewarding enough and it is much more effective to just run around and use your ultimate on a large mob.
That is a really interesting take on the theme! The game is great. Maybe it lacks a bit of background music and, as a foreigner, the dialogue is a bit too quick at some points but I loved the concept. Kudos!!
Congratulations on your first submission!
This game is super fun. It is an original twist on the match 3 genre and the visuals are fantastic.
This is an interesting take on the theme. Managing that garden gets really difficult with all those nasty worms.
This is a very elegant and smart way of using the theme and the music is great. I think I am going to bookmark it and come back later and play it again. Kudos!
Sometimes, while jumping, I find it difficult to know where I am and end up getting too short or too wide. Maybe casting a shadow down would help.
@papacheech: Thank you for playing!!
@gamequester: I had some problems with the jump issue during development, I thought I would find some time to address it but the truth is that I almost run out of time. I appreciate the feedback!
@lmb: It is the first time I took some time to compose something and I was quite pleased with the result. It really needed more testing to balance the difficulty, you are right. Thank you for playing!
@wskilljoy: The enemies should leave the silhouette behind, I thought it looked cool (I wanted some permanence instead of just deleting dead enemies) but there is some kind of bug and the behaviour is totally inconsistent... Thank you for playing and giving feedback!!!
@mrleeperry: Somehow I spent 2 days on this game, I don't really know where that time went. Thank you for playing!!
@dusho: The idea of that starting position is to get hit right away so the player can see the zoom out mechanic. I placed a crate there so the player can recover that lost health point if they want to. (I could have built it better though).
@surue: Thank you!!
@maximebou: Thank you for playing. Hopefully I will be able to find the issue with jumping and be able to solve this bug.
@ale: I thought the fov mechanic was cool. I am happy to know that you enjoyed it!
@jani-nykanen: Thank you for playing! Building this game was an interesting experience for me.
@xclementx: I have re-built the macOSX Universal version and added a macOSX_64. I hope that made things better.
@Moski: Thank you for reporting the bug with the doors at the end of the level. I think I have been able to address that issue. Thank you for playing!
@cogcomp: I cannot confirm nor deny that I spent some valuable time just shooting at the left wall in the first level enjoying the screen shake.
@hegemege: the jump bug is definitely an issue. I hope I have the time to look into what is causing the issue and address it. About the rotating gun, at some point, I considered allowing the player to shoot just in a small angle in front of the player but I thought I wouldn't make much sense to be able to hover with the mouse over all the screen and limit the gun movement.
@mess110: Thank you for playing!!!
I had to double check this was a Compo game instead of a Jam game. Great game!!!
I will be mumbling that shanty for the rest of the day!!! The game is really fun and the graphics are fantastic. Loved that water effect!
I tried the HTML5 version and found the same bug as @zinkler. Also, I think I ended my first playthrough on the left side of the screen and, when I restarted, I appeared over the water unable to move.
Apart from the reset bug, the game is fun to play.
Congratulations on your first submission! I loved the mood of the game and running around the place. I could have used an explanation of the default controls on your post and a comment on avoiding running out of light. But when I found that I needed to press Enter to flip the switches, I enjoyed my playthrough.
Congratulations on your first Ludum Dare!! The game is good and fun to play but it really lacks some background music to me.
Congratulations on completing your first GameJam!! The idea is interesting and Chaparrito looks really cool.
Wow! The game looks so good and the concept is smart and implemented in a way that is really engaging and interesting. The only downside I found, just like some people pointed out, is that the control on the keyboard feels a bit unresponsive and it takes some time getting used to it.
Congratultions on your first submission!! Your visuals are really good!
I can barely manage to jump with two characters but the game looks and feels polished. Great job!
Using the smog as a way to challenge the player is original. I run into a couple of graphics bugs (the cop sliding, the victims walking backwards and the timer showing a single number for the seconds (i.e. 1:2 instead of 1:02) but the game is interesting. Thank you!
Outstanding game! You start slow but once you get the mechanics of it, you can't leave it! The concept is easy to understant and the execution is super refined.
Great game! The game looks beautiful and it is fun to play. I had some issues with the camera turning around and I would have love to see the enemies follow different patterns but it is a solid entry. Congratulations!
Loved both music and the visuals for the game. I played a couple of times and got to the end by walking straight to the right without much of a problem. I guess that was not intended and I would love to play the polished version if you keep working on it.
The game looks amazing!! Both the drawings and animations are really good! The idea is simple but is fits the theme to a tee. Quite a solid entry. Congratulations!
I spent more time playing this game that what I care to admit. It is an interesting take on the theme and the gameplay feels refined.
Great mood. I would have loved to have some secondary thing to do apart from shooting whatever appears on the screen (maybe collect coins, grab items or something). This way, playing more than once has the added challenge of improving your performance.
@kidnadcat Thank you for your feedback!! I admit I struggle quita a lot creating the art for these games and I spent too much time in it for such a discrete result.
@whoisninja Thanks for playing the game and giving me some feedback.
@shozou The game needs some text giving some flavour to the story and giving some directions, specially at the begining but I ran out of time.
@kyllax Thank you for playing the game and commenting!
I have uploaded a new build where that bug is hopefully fixed.
@zicboy Thank you for playing my game and leaving a comment!
@halfmule the part of the merchant isn't properly explained, you are right (and it's probably not well balanced either). The idea behind it is that you can drop items from your inventory and increase your insanity or take items from the merchant and decrease your insanity (Diogenes loves new items!). I will add this in the description on the game since I didn't have time to properly explain the mechanic in game. Thank you for playing and giving feedback!
@levaj thank you for your feedback, I will try to improve my description so it is easier to understand how to play.
@dumivid Thanks for playing! I wished I had more time to polish some things but I ran out of time.
@timothy-spit you are right about that bug, thank you for your feedback.
@narudgi I literally lost a day in a concept that ended up going nowhere and then I had this gradious idea and... yeah... no time for polish. It has been quite a frustrating experience but I learnt a lot (I think). Anyways, thank you for playing and leaving some feedback.
@autumnotopia Thank you for your feedback. I should have though more about how to communicate what locations were active and which ones were not. Having a tooltip saying 'Nothing going on here!' is an interesting approach. Thank you for the idea!
@necromic I wanted to do some kind of more elavorate animation but I ran out of time. The shake the characters do was something added at the last minute. I wanted to do too many things and that was bad planning on my part.
This game is so peaceful and nice. Loved the low poly visuals and the sound effects!
I guess the game stays unfinished. I could only unpack some boxes and there was nothing else to do (maybe I am missing something but I see some 'pending' features in your description). With that said, the sprites look awesome and the music is nice.
Interesting take on the theme. The art is amazing!
First of all, kudos on your first submission. Even though the game is not at the polished state you desired, the idea behind it is good and fits the theme and it is fun to play. I don't know how you implemented the rate at wich the circle gets smaller but I think it would be nicer if it was a bit slower at the start to give the player some leeway and increase the speed over time. You can do some balancing there.
Congratulations on your submission. The game needs a little bit more polishing but the idea is good and the mechanics are quite unique. Maybe it would be interesting if the game showed you the layout of the level before having to pick abilities for the first time.
5/5 humor. Great idea, the game is really fun and the endings are awesome. Kudos!
The concept is simple but the game is fun (even though I am really bad even struggle with the easiest level).
Cool twist on the theme! It's a fun puzzle game.
I ended up only using the mode where you place the tiles. I found it easier to control with the camera high above.
Kudos! This game is fantastic. The controls are crisp and the concept is a really smart twist on the theme. I'll admit I have yet to beat the last level of the tutorial, but I will come back to it!
Awesome puzzle game. The idea is elegant and I loved the aesthetics. Really smart approach!
@maryana turrets should fire at you when you cross a laser.
@dry-squid thank you for playing!
@slagathor I usually leaved the level design for the last stretch, but this time I tried to find various ways of using the jump ability to clear a level (I had to rush the dash levels though). Thank you for your feedback!
@mharring it's a little floaty and a little slow, I could have tuned that better but I realized that at the end and it was kind of risky to play with those settings and maybe making some levels unclearable. Thank you for playing the game!
@marchmain Level 3 is about finding spots in your climb where the laser can't reach you and timing the jumps, but maybe it's too tight. The mechanic for level 4 is about jumping while falling down (I'll admit it is unclear that the jumping ability recharges when you land but you can actually use it while not grounded. I should have written a hint or something when you pick up the boots. I'll add it to the description). Thank you for your feedback!
It's an intereasting approach and it's fun.
I had the constant sensation of not knowing where I was or if there were anything of interest in the direction I was going. I your objective was to convey "being lost", it's quite effective, but I would have prefered to have some way oforienting myself.
Great game! Loved the aesthetics and the music, and the bartering mechanic is original.
I must admit I ended up just droping items to the various vendors to see what new items they offered and I probably missed most of the flavour text.
But overall it's a really well crafted game, kudos!
It's a great idea! It's fun to play but a bit cahotic. I think I wan't quick enough to spawn roots and create nodes to keep those pesky ladybugs at bay after a few seconds, though.
I spent too much time playing this game. It's great! It's a really fun idea and it works really well on for a jum. Kudos!
I'm glad you didn't drop out of the jam, the concept is great. The core mechanic is great and the level design is really smart on exploiting all the ways that you fail on keeping that heart safe... The game is hard but it's easy to identify why you failed and my own lack of skill kept me hooked. Congrats!
Overall, it's an interesting take on the theme and the game is good. I've encountered a couple of bugs like after clicking on retry after dying, the game starts paused or some inventary issues. I hope you keep working on it after the jam!
A really fun concept. It made me realise I might need some english review lessons to come up with alternate ways of saying things faster.
@s1lv3r-dr4g0n-games Thank you for taking the time to play my game and for pointing the issue in the tutorial screen. To be honest, I rushed all that last minute and I just checked that the 'back' button was working.
@goodgamesjames I think you just pointed out all the things I struggled the most during development xD I maintained the blue resource from the first pass (I was intending to do something more 'reality-based' and I intended that to be water). Finally, I went with something more symbolic and I wanted everything to have disctinct colors and shapes but... Let's say I should spend more time honing my visual design skills.
The magnet idea was a compromise solution to make things clear and easy. My first idea was to make them grow towards what the tree needed the most (but that could lead to a less predictable behaviour), the second idea was to have every root favor something (that ended up being the split mechanic) and I ended up settleing for the magnet. If I had more time, that would defenitely be something I would spend some time prototyping and trying different ideas!
Thank you for the extensive review and all the insights!!!
@thepelranthean Thank you for playing the game and the possitive comments!! To be honest, I wanted to fit more things in the mood board but I didn't have the time. I am quite happy with how well the music trick works for how simple it is.
@wuppos The tutorial levels were super useful to test that everything worked, they were super-convinient.
@appoxgames I think that's where the inspiration for the name came from!! I tend to rush music and sound fx in an hour, last minute and with minimal music training. Including a mute button is just good manners at this point :D
Cool concept. With a bit of polishing it would make for a good casual game. Kudos!
Wow I'm bad at this kind of games! But kudos on the submission, it's really fun to play. Not gonna lie, I kinda like the super relaxing music while trying to kill those pesky flames.
@1studio thank you for playing the game!
@fifut Thank you! Yes, I did the fx myself, they are a bit derpy but there is some charm in that, isn't there? (There should be background music though, there are a couple simple melodies one when the switch is turned off and one when it's on)
@kszaku thank you for taking some time and playing the game! To be honest, I would have liked to include more variation on the challenges but times flies...
@candlesan you are right, it definitely lacks more feedback on hit. Now that you say it it's really obvious and it didn't occur to me while testing the game.
@harmadillo I see what you and @fifut are saying now. There should be a different music track playing when you press the button. Oh... there had to be a colosal bug somewhere...
@elimarable thank you for playing the game!! Yes, you are right, there are elements that disappear when the sequence changes. Some of the entities are bound to its spawner and when that spawner gets deactivated, they get killed.
By the way, getting compared to "Just Shapes and Beats" is huge praise. That game is amazing! Thank you!!
@lmb @kjscott
The confusion between the left and right buttons was done by design. I thought, having the player focus on the threats and using the worng button would be an interesting point of failure. Maybe it is an unnecessary vector of frustration.
Reaaly cool puzzle game. Maybe the fact that you can move and extend the fuse could be conveyed better (I got it reading some comments, to be honest) but once you get the mechanics of the game, it really fun. The challenges are smart and are well layed out in terms of difficulty and both audio and visuals are really good. Kudos!
The music is soooo good.
Good take on the theme with very straightforward mechanics. Really fun. If there was a way to know how good a run was, I would defenitely spend more time trying than I care to admit.
Kudos on your submission!
The graphics and audio are outstanding! And the controls are just right. It's a really smart concept and the game feels polished. Kudos!
Nice game! It's a nice interpretation of the theme and the game is fun to play. You even included achievements!!
If I were to say something to improve, some kind of feedback on hit would be nice. To be honest, I spent most of my time with my eyes on the enemies and I wasn't fully aware when I was getting hit.
Very nostalgic vibes! I liked the concept but I felt it's a bit caotic on screen.
Maybe it's just me, but maybe try to increase the window/resolution size (or whatever it's called) of the web player on itch. It cuts a bit of the screen and there is information that's not well displayed.
Congrats on your first submission! A very straightforward idea but it plays really well. Kudos!
It's a very creative spin on the theme! With that music and those aesthetics, I loved the chill vibes!
I think if the motivation score was visible from any screen, I would have understood the dynamics faster. I also think that some kind of hook (maybe show how much time I spent before failing) would be cool to get me to replay the game over and over to improve.
Great first jam sumbission! The shader looks really good and the music is also quite good.
To bo honest, I think it takes courage to go with procedural generation, I tried in the past with, lets say, mixed results. I don't know if many of us play each game enough to really matter (I played a couple of runs) and I got into a couple of really weird situations with the placement of the platforms.
However, if I had to pick something to spend time refining it would be the controls. It's really hard to make platform controls that feel responsive and refined. I would say that the initial acceleration is a bit high but then the character feels a bit floaty (maybe?) and the movement side to side feels a bit "heavy".
What a creative concept! I knew all those years playing Tetris were not wasted! Apart from some issues with collisions, the game plays well and the graphics and audio are really good. Just as @stasm and @rolly say, the implementation of the tutorial is effective and elegant.
Kudos on your first submission!
Creative take on the theme. Love how the music and this darker aesthetics set the mood. I think the way you use plain tiles of different tones to build the cave is really smart in how simple, yet effective it is. The game feels really polished.
To me, the controls feel a bit sluggish but maybe that is intentional.
Interesting concept. The pacing is a bit slow for my taste and, for a rhythm game, it would be nice to have some king of background music.
Nice game! I should play it often because after a couple of games, I think I suck at typing! Also, the art and music are impressive!
Congrats on completing LD41! You came up with a combination of genres that is really smart and I loved the concept. However, I found it to be a bit too tough to have to re-start from zero once you fail, but I feel there is some potential there!
Nice game! Combining platforming and a rhythm game is challenging but I think the pace of your game is lenient enough so it is fun to play. However, having to restart the game when you die is tough!
A shooter-golf game is definitely a creative approach to the theme and congrats on your first Ludum Dare entry (?). I see that other commentators have pointed out some issues like it is quite difficult to foresee how the balls will behave but, those 48 fly quickly. Nice game!
Wow! Just wow! I had a blast playing your game. It felt like one of those rhythm games with a great aesthetic and music. Sometimes, it feels like you have clicked on an enemy to go for a kill and you don't quite land where you thought but, overall, the game is really fun!
@lucas-guimaraes: Thanks for commenting!
@dp3rucha: Thanks!! I left those buttons in because, since it is a game jam entry and people may not want to spend a lot of time unlocking new techs, I left the opportunity to cheat your way through so they can try other features.
@Narudgi Thanks for playing!!
@Mathiouza Thank you!! There are some things I would have loved to spend some more time working on them but, literally 2 minutes before submission, the game didn't even have a title!
@Ananace Thank you for your feedback! I probably should have spent more time tuning the amount of dampening on the lateral inertia and pushed back the camera a bit more.
@Talops it's true that there is no end-game content or a real progression system for that matter. At some point, I was toying with the idea of creating some kind of boss or implementing some kind of ladder but I never got to work on that. Thanks for playing and giving feedback!
@bazld Thanks for playing!! I really enjoyed working on this project.
@MacDoom I had to make it a little bit tough. I think it keeps getting harder and I should have playtested more the later parts of the game when unlocking new techs gets expensive.
@Tom Panton Thanks for the feedback! I agree the character walks a bit too slowly. In retrospect, it kind of bugged me while making the game but, for some strange reason, I never addressed it and it is such a small change to make... Oh, and also thanks for spotting that typo!
@Honest-dan Thanks for the feedback! I would have loved to work a bit more on the tracks (currently there are 3 tracks and each track segment picks a random set of hazards from a pool), but having the camera so close and not having any visual cues make it seem the same.
@NoahRo You are right, Rogue Legacy is clearly an inspiration for the game for the non-racing part of the game. I would have loved to put more of a personal spin on that part but, with the time constraint, I could only manage to make it like that... In the end, it is quite simple and effective.
@PeachTreeOath Thanks for playing! I created those cheat buttons for testing purposes but I ended thinking if anyone was going to play long enough to experience the game with tech unlocked (and it also makes up for some small issues with game balance). With the bounciness of the walls, I wanted to punish the player and I went overboard...
Congrats on completing LD41!! The game has a nice concept behind and both the visuals and the music are great.
I think I found a small bug: I went back to the main menu, started a new game and the character remained stuck in the air (since nothing is moving, you might have timescale set to 0). Anyway, if you press ESC to show the menu and then resume playing, things go back to normal.
In terms of the game itself, I had a hard time finding the appropriate letters and I got stuck a couple of times (only one path to follow and none of the necessary letters).
Nonetheless, the game is quite fun and a really good effort!
The atmosphere of this game is really nice but I would have loved to have something more to do than just casually traversing the environments.
I found it kind of hard to get into it, but once I understood the mechanics, the game becomes quite fun (the rhythm game vibe was pushing it a bit too far for me, though)
I had some problem finding a room and ended up trying the game alone. The idea is really neat, the car control feels quite good and the background music is fantastic. I would have prefered a forward overhead camera angle, rather than this "lateral" placement.
Nice game! This is a really smart combination of games that work surprisingly well.
Congrats on completing LD41! This is a nice short game. It could do with some sounds and more levels, I wanted to play a little bit more!
First of all, congrats on completing LD41! Your game is fantastic. The idea is smart and bold and the music is amazing. I found it a little bit hard to keep focus on the UI while manoeuvring and, after a while, I ended up "button-mashing" while going around (and felt a little bit like cheating, to be honest).
Anyways, I played it a couple of times and it is super fun!
Congrats on completing LD41! I liked the combination of genres but I felt the game was a bit hard (or I am really bad a typing). I think that some music would be a good improvement and some key or button to restart the game once you died would also help.
First of all, congratulations on your first Ludum Dare submission! The game is nice. I would have loved to have some way to recharge faster as the pace of the game falls when you only have one bar, but it was a fun experience!
Nice game! I loved that you included a casual mode to be able to get a feel of how the game works in a less stressful environment (played both casual an normal mode)
Really fun game and a smart combination of genres. I played for quite a bit and closed the game after only getting on a constant loop where one enemy spawned on the left over and over. I went out there and got stuck on the left edge of the screen (started gliding out of screen, managed to get back in and started gliding again).
It took a handful of turns to get a feel of how the ship moves but, once you get it, the game is really fun to play.
Congrats on completing LD41! The game is fun to play and it's really well made. The graphics are great and the transitions from 3D to 2D are incredible.
During my first ascent, I would have loved to have a little more information as I didn't know what was my objective and I lost most of my troops because they didn't have time to follow me. (I ended up dying trying to go back down to get my troops). Anyways, it is not hard to understand once you try a couple of times.
Congrats on completing LD41! I loved the chaos that those pesky space invaders make and the music is also amazing. I think a basic UI to give us some feedback while playing would be a nice improvement!
