Fixed. Thanks for that =)
This game is beautiful! I like how you combined the genres.
You crushed it. I am very impressed by the way it transitions from the 3d overhead part (which I like, feels like an rts clicker game) straight to the 2d part. The style works in both and that is wicked cool.
Just wow. The graphics are great, the gameplay is solid, but the best thing about your game in opinion is the AI. I just love the way things are getting done without me having to micromanage them. A great entry, and a great take on the theme!
i love the concept of an rts that sources its combat out to some other genre, the transition between the two is very cool indeed the rts part is really well made i just wish there was some more depth to it, the platforming is charming in its mayhem
Tried the WebGL version does not work in Edge browser but works in Firefox.
I won the battle but the game did not progress only giving the option for retreat.
Just add some music/sfx and improve the text feedback on resources and you have a genre breaking classic on your hands! Good luck.
@arrowx it progresses when theres no more enemy units
Technically very well made and graphically really great, too! Congrats on a sweeeeet game!
Amazing game!
Needs a bigger map so I can get enough soldiers to crash the game XD
Heeey, this game is actually good. Pretty unfair for the enemies though, considering that 3 farms and ~70 pop was more than enough to win every single time. Spawning small squads of enemies as reinforcements per level really tilts the balance in favour of the player (especially if the player brings a large force).
Anyways, I like this a lot (which is a first). The transition to orthographic mode for the "2D" part is preeeeeetty sweet -- I've always been fond of the orthographic cam in practice.
Spawning cloud layers: I'd suggest keeping them static instead, as the WebGL build was hitching noticeably. Besides, I'm pretty sure I managed to get my army to despawn on the first run by simply jumping up to the top level before they had a chance to catch up. On another occasion, one of my own soldiers pushed me off a cloud and we had to restart the fight.
Different stages are nice, but perhaps consider gating resources somehow, so that I can't amass an army of 30/60/70 guys (at every stage) and crush the opposition without even caring.
But yeah, all in all great work. Nice job! It's actually a game that isn't terrible! I should look for more of these.
@iLoveYourFace I got up to 160 soldiers :v:
Thanks @Lumos glad you enjoyed it. Yeah I'll try to come up with a better way to balance out the game. With only 48 hours there was not much testing done and thanks for the webgl comment. :)
wow man good job also check out our game here https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/
Congrats on completing LD41! The game is fun to play and it's really well made. The graphics are great and the transitions from 3D to 2D are incredible.
During my first ascent, I would have loved to have a little more information as I didn't know what was my objective and I lost most of my troops because they didn't have time to follow me. (I ended up dying trying to go back down to get my troops). Anyways, it is not hard to understand once you try a couple of times.
The lack of limits is hilarious, I had a lot of fun guiding all my mini soldiers to the top of the clouds jumping everywhere ! Good Job!
Great work! Was a blast playing it. Love the almost ice-climber feel that the side perspective have.
a really fun game! the approach you took, where it switches modes works great and is an elegant solution to the challenge
This is a really complex game for 48 hours, well done
The web version, when loaded is just a blank brown screen for me. I tried downloading the win64 version, but I get this error: https://i.imgur.com/b9KYITX.png (I don't normally have problems running Unity games...)
Hey @Sophie I'm not sure whats the issue you're facing. Have you tried another browser? I tested on Windows 10
Fun and feels good, only complaint I have is that the audio almost killed me, big butt warning to headphone users, aside from that love the viscera and wish I could do more with the base between rounds
It's quite frankly insane that you managed this in 48 hours, and that you got it to play this cleanly. The RTS part has nice building controls, only improvement I could think of would be a visual grid on the map of where the buildings could be placed.
The climbing battle system feels very hands off though, you just leap up a level, wait for the enemy count to decrease, and repeat. I'm not even sure if I have any good ideas for improving on that particular part, perhaps add some controls to the military during it, either by tracking them onto the same cloud layer as you or simply by having them stick close unless ordered otherwise.
Man I'm really impressed by what you managed to do. Incredible game, very complete.
The art is effective, the UI is neat and understandable, and it's real fluid too, I didn't have any lag on the WebGL. The transitions of the two modes is top notch, and the idea of unlocking the rts in the assault is cool. A really good job !
For a jam game there isn't much more to add but if you wanted to work more on it I guess : managing the rythm between assault and rts a bit better and being a bit clearer on how the game works. Having a bit more control during the assault could be cool. There are also a few bugs to crush (like falling from the sky for instance) but I didn't have any crash and the game was still playable so it's okay really.
I do have a crushing question tho : What did those poor sky people ever do to us ?
Anyways great job man, especially for a compo, especially for a first jam  !
This was a cool experience! Incredible work for a compo!
The main thing for you to improve is player feedback. Be it visual, textual or sound ou always have to make sure you are leading the players to where they are supposed to go. The UI didn't help much, and the font choice made it a little harder in this aspect.
Also, the little smash-bros-like platform in the start of the platformer made me lose half of my huge army every start of the battle! xD
But I really liked the 3D models (they are cute af) and think the concept is excellent. Reminded me of one of my favorite games growing up, ActRaiser!
Overall, great job!
This was made in only 48 hours and your first game jam? NO WAY  You have to tell me more about how you implemented the 3D -> 2D effect. Is it just camera movement with some animations on top of it?
I've never ever created an RTS and I also wanted to make some sort of RTS next time, only if it fits the theme :p Great work!
Please also check out my game, if you have any time
This was an amazing game and I loved the transition between the 3d town builder and 2 platforming blood fest! This is something to be proud of!
Hey @Mazzletov, yeah it was created in 48 hours. The transition between 3d to 2d was purely camera movement and lerping the camera's display matrix to switch from Perspective to Orthographic camera mode. You can look into the source code file PerspectiveSwitcher.cs. :)
I wonder if all that blood raining down helps the crops grow Fun game! Hopping up through the clouds and slaughtering people was really satisfying. Once I unlocked archers and pikeman it got pretty brutal. I think I would have liked to be able to attack also.
Yeah, will put some thought into that. Thanks @Team Infernus
That's one unique game genre combination. So captivating to play.
There are some interesting ideas at play here, but tbh the "platformer" genre felt under-developed to me. The transition from 3D to 2D was cool, but beyond jumping up when a wave is finished and the occasional pickup, there isn't really anything to do as the player during sieges. I think it could have been a lot more interesting if the player was actually a combatant, or if they were more directly controlling the army.
btw, minor bug to report: if you press down while you're on the ground in platforming mode, you fall through the earth.
