LD52 — Harvest

Fruit Picker xTreme by Ananace 2023-01-09T22:00:38Z

Yeah, was planning on having particles and a flash when a fruit goes between stages, but well... time waits for no man.

@justin-c It's all just plain old C++ with SFML and EnTT, so not really any engine involved.

Super Gun Baby Run by KunoNoOni 2018-04-25T07:43:37Z

I think you've really nailed the controls / basic gameplay, though there could be something more to do apart from just jumping and shooting. Maybe by adding in the time honoured RPG tradition of looting your enemies and selling their stuff?

A bit more variety in the enemies wouldn't hurt either, not necessarily the looks even, just something as simple as occasionally sending two enemies at the same time would help.

CardRacer by Smooth 2018-04-24T15:45:52Z

The Linux link is 404 as well

Formula 1x1 by limered 2018-04-24T18:21:59Z

The steering was really hard to get used to, I don't think I managed a single turn without crashing into the sides. Perhaps the game could do some light auto-correction to try and help you point straight? Additionally, at the speeds you tend to get up to, maybe having the answers follow the camera instead of being printed on the tarmac would be helpful.

Really enjoyed the idea and implementation though, even if I spent a lot of my time with the front buried against the edge of the track.

R-Trooper Squad by SelfTitled 2018-04-24T16:13:42Z

The Linux version needs to have its executable marked as *executable*, and for some reason I kept getting told that all my troopers were KIA even though none of them ever died.

Looks quite nice though, and the order system is okay, though it could use an indicator line for attacks as well as movement.

Quest for Gold by Mordokay 2018-04-24T16:01:51Z

Your Linux build seems to be missing all the data, and the executable isn't marked as ...well, executable.

AsteroidSweeper xTreme by Ananace 2018-04-24T17:39:46Z

@blubberquark The dependencies for compiling it really aren't steep at all, just a modern-ish GCC, CMake 3.1, and SFML 2.4+

I wanted to have some kind of pre-packaged version available though, and I'm not able to do Snaps, and all the instructions I could find for AppImage seemed to expect you to use some build system that would package it for you - though that might've just been my google-fu that failed me. So in order to get something for people to download in time for the deadline I just went with the one that I know how to use.

Added a few more lines to the description to hopefully help with using the package, though I'll also have another look at AppImage - or simply spin up a VM of a non-bleeding edge distro to build a tarball that people can actually run.

AsteroidSweeper xTreme by Ananace 2018-04-25T21:39:34Z

@tomdeal Yeah, I tried to think of something to do just that, but couldn't figure out anything that would be possible inside the time limit.

@RockhopperGames Guess why I picked two of the easiest games possible. :grinning: Might publish a new version in a few days with some added bling, and with a mine that moves if you manage to hit it first. It's worth mentioning that I didn't even have a victory condition until around six hours before the deadline, so all the polish went way back in the backlog.

Thanks for playing and coming with suggestions, always happy to hear what people think of my games and how to improve them.

Neural Network Ratatouille by polegar 2018-04-24T15:24:25Z

Well, that actually worked much better than I expected it to, though the gameplay is quite simplistic.

Can't say I've played many games with webcam controls.

Twine Walker by RockhopperGames 2018-04-24T17:05:52Z

I honestly don't know what to say about this game, apart from it most definitely deserving five stars for following the theme. I tried to keep track of the stories, but I'm pretty sure I failed completely at that, well done. :star:

Shooter by alexholly 2018-04-25T07:16:50Z

The card dealing was really nice, but the shooting part on the other hand felt like it lacked something.

To make it more interesting, maybe there could be a panic when you start shooting - just increase the speed of everyone. And possibly change the rifle to require a longer reload period every X shots.

You wouldn't go wrong with a small text on the start that gives you any hint of what you're doing as well, just something as simple as saying "Choose N Target(s)" instead of "Choose N Card(s)". I thought I was choosing my player character at first, because that's what you usually do at the beginning of these games.

Dear Clicker by blubberquark 2018-04-24T15:16:49Z

I love the fact that you have a walking simulator where you need to *buy* the ability to walk. If that's not a subversion of the entire thing I don't know what is.

Can't say I had fun playing it, but then again, not a big fan of walking simulators - and with even more dislike for clicker games. What I did do was enjoy the experience, and lament the fact that it pauses if you tab out of it, so to leave me nothing to do but click until i could get those 30k.

Marco Polo by microwerx 2018-04-24T17:54:51Z

Those camels sure were dropping like flies during the travelling segments, and medicine was really slow to actually regain you any health. But I guess that's to be expected from a game that's based partially off of Oregon Trail.

Would've been nice to have more things to spend your money on though, maybe additional missiles or even guards to help you kill off the required enemies.

WarCard by gagapete 2018-04-25T21:53:49Z

You could include a note about the camera controls somewhere, only realized I could move it after reading the comments. The playing field was nicely designed though, really looks like there's a battle of some kind going on. If you want to improve a bit more on that feeling, maybe you could make the bombs/shells leave small craters instead of just the pillars of smoke they do right now though.

Also, a bit  for the parallaxing, people deeply underestimate just how good that particular effect can make something look.

Puzzle Gun by LeFayGames 2018-04-25T22:05:10Z

Really enjoying those graphics, looking quite nice - though I'm not as sure about the hole in the middle. You might want to look at slowing down animations when in the reload and upgrade menus, it looks weird to see wings flapping about with enemies that barely crawl towards you.

The reload and upgrade mechanics are quite frankly hilarious - and something I can most definitely see a wizard doing, perhaps give some way of seeing through the dialog though, so that you can avoid walking through monsters while reloading / tinkering.

Rogue Racer by bar0net 2018-04-24T15:43:22Z

The driving itself feels very rushed, it would be nice to have some inertia on the car during turns, so it feels more like driving a wheeled vehicle.

The camera really doesn't leave you much time to prepare for the upcoming hazards, and hitting a wall quite literally sends you spinning out of control, but it's still quite a nice game.

Prototypes and Dust by AdroitConceptions 2018-04-24T16:51:04Z

The platforming part sadly felt a bit unsatisfying, my suggestions for possible improvements would be to either increase gravity slightly to lessen the floaty feeling of jumping, or allow you to control the height of the jump by holding down the spacebar. Other things to think about might be to add some more ground friction to reduce sliding on stops, and it wouldn't hurt to add a tiny grace period when exiting a platform either. (Most 2D platformers give you a few frames after leaving the edge of a platform where you're still able to jump, which gives a solid feel to the controls)

The pause when going into first-person mode is really nice, even if I think it would work better as a strong slow-motion instead, but then again I'm a huge fan of slow-motion in games so I'm a bit partial on that particular area.

I really like the extra puzzle aspect you get from having multiple slices of the world to move in though, and the fact that you can remove enemies between the sections is quite amusing.

Quest Sweeper by TheM 2018-04-24T17:42:48Z

You might want to relabel the download as being a Windows package, and probably tell Unity to spit out some Linux and Mac builds for you while you're at it.

Click Click Clutch - an idle clicker racing game by SupremeKurt 2018-04-24T15:55:38Z

I'm not quite sure if I could call this a combination of *incompatible* genres, it's most definitely not the first - or second - clicker/tapper racing game I've played at least.

It'd be nice to have more control over the racer part of it, maybe with turns on the track and actual controls for the vehicle apart from the accelerating through clicks. A big fan of the challenge list, it's nice to be able to go for a 1:1 race whenever you want, even if it'd be helpful to list what kind of upgrades said challengers would have.

GuitarPicks by Solnak 2018-04-24T14:26:48Z

Your Linux version needs to have the game binary marked as executable, apart from that though it plays quite well. There's a small graphical issue where the background peeks through the edges between some sprites.

I must say, the music is really nice.

Karaoke Ninja by GastricSparrow 2018-04-24T15:30:01Z

That was a quite enjoyable experience, even if I apparently suck at singing scales - which doesn't surprise me all that much.

fishing racer by leviathon 2018-04-24T16:26:04Z

You might want to look at the itch.io page, make sure it's published completely, and probably grab a quick screenshot or two to add to the entry page on here as well.

Darkade by hatchet 2018-04-24T17:56:54Z

The Linux package seems to be lacking a data folder, and therefore can't run.

Darkade by hatchet 2018-04-24T23:06:03Z

That was actually really well done, I love the effect of the CRT shader.

I'm pretty sure I've never defeated a boss with breakout before either, so kudos to that.

Naturalist Royale - Online! by Chris Hall 2018-04-24T16:33:12Z

Played okay, even if the HTML version seemed to take a few attempts before starting.

The gathering works well, though it feels like some areas have gotten more love than others in regards to the number of available species to collect.

BouncePUNCH by wsKilljoy 2018-04-24T16:24:39Z

Can't comment on how well of a versus game it plays due to not having anyone to challenge. The music is really nice though, and the controls are quite solid, if with a slightly low lateral friction.

On another note, the Linux version seems to segfault on exit, with a whole block of errors left filling the console.

A journey of the block by TomekS 2018-04-25T07:31:54Z

That was quite an enjoyable experience, and the graphics are really amazing too, especially for being part of a compo entry.

I would've loved some kind of marker on the ground where the blocks spawned by the spawners are to end up, positioning for that was a bit messy. Personally, I'm also a bit peeved with games where the movement keys don't perfectly match the camera angle, but that might just me.

Siege Of The Cloud Empire by HailBurns 2018-04-24T17:28:36Z

It's quite frankly insane that you managed this in 48 hours, and that you got it to play this cleanly. The RTS part has nice building controls, only improvement I could think of would be a visual grid on the map of where the buildings could be placed.

The climbing battle system feels very hands off though, you just leap up a level, wait for the enemy count to decrease, and repeat. I'm not even sure if I have any good ideas for improving on that particular part, perhaps add some controls to the military during it, either by tracking them onto the same cloud layer as you or simply by having them stick close unless ordered otherwise.

Horror Minigolf by Goldentiger 1 2018-04-25T07:09:51Z

The "putt" felt very underpowered, but I guess considering that it's an eye - and that it doesn't even seem to roll - that is to be expected.

Ended up getting to the fourth level before crashing when touching some lava.

Bullets and Wine by cognac 2018-04-25T07:33:02Z

You might want to post a link to your downloads, otherwise it's hard for people to play your game.
