LD42 — Running out of space

Encroaching by Ava Skoog 2018-08-16T06:05:26Z

The mood and settings are great, and really sends a feeling of being in an unfamiliar and unsafe place. Seeing the dead bodies of previous runs is a nice touch.

There is the issue of not having a clear goal though, I couldn't really figure out what I am looking for or what to do.

Audio cues to pick up the position of the hunters in the fog is great. Unfortunately, a lot of it is covered up to the loudness of the deer's footsteps, so you might want to lower the volume of unimportant sounds.

Quibble Quarrel by TJ101010 2018-08-16T08:57:46Z

The polish is very nice, and it is a fun and short game.

There is a slight problem of accumulated disadvantage though (You start off small, which makes your range, speed and ability to gather goo weak, which means you are prone to get hit and become smaller and repeat the cycle). However, this doesn't really hurt the game too much since it is against an AI, but it might become an issue if you change it to a multiplayer game, so it might be something to keep in mind.

Space Balls by Shafournee 2018-08-16T09:31:43Z

I really like the mechanic of having pockets of space with different properties (Mainly gravity here). The gameplay is paced out well, and the ending levels remind of the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy.

I would suggest putting some time into sound effects, which the game is lacking, as music and sound can make and break games. But the fact that the game is fun regardless of the lack of sound effects mean that you guys made a pretty solid game.

Sweet Sweet Witch Hunt by Sir Daniev 2019-05-01T17:38:43Z

I love the constrast between the cutesyness of the sprites and the actual implication of what the witch is doing. The audio also fits well with the game.

It definitely feels like there should be a bigger penalty for getting hit, seeing that the witch gets a really long invulnerbility time and the shots have a long delay and are easy to dodge. Also the controls do feel a bit clunky due to the tilebased movement.

Very nice game which focus on a really simple mechanic

I think there is an issue with the resolution, I can barely see that the characters have their requests in your screenshot, but ingame I can't look high enough to see what is in their request. If you fix it I will come back and try the game again.

Graphic and music is nice. Would be nice to see a hp bar or some sort of indicator to know how much damage we are doing and how much health they have left per attack.

Cursed Samurai by palsina 2019-05-01T19:19:22Z

Ok, first off, this game is crazy difficult, so I will leave a guide to how to beat the game at my next comment.

Game is so aesthetically beautiful that I felt the need to complete the game. Lack of music and SFX does hurt the game though, but I managed to supply myself with a nice bgm while playing it. The freeze frames per impact is a tad bit too long, and I find myself wishing that the time per restart is shorter, due to the number of deaths I had. Also the lack of a closure is a bit disappointing (Unless I bugged it out somehow?).

It is still a really beautiful game, with enemies who are designed to test your understanding of their attacks and your timing. Great work.

Cursed Samurai by palsina 2019-05-01T19:38:58Z

**Guide:**

- Archer: - Have 2 attacks, a straight shot and a jumping shot - If he does a straight shot, jump over it and slash him, be careful not to jump too early, because you will be hit by his 2nd shot - If he does his jumping shot, either back off and try again, or pray you don't get hit - If you parried his attacks for whatever reason, back off immediately, you won't have time to attack before he shoot his next arrow - For the part with 2 archers side by side, slash the first one as per normal, back off, and then go for the 2nd one - Ninja: - Have 2 attacks, a direct attack and a jumping attack - Learn how to time and parry his direct attack, and slash him directly after - If he jumps, just chase after him for an easy kill

- Red Armored Samurai: - Get barely in range to trigger his attack, and immediately back off - After his attack, he is basically a sitting duck, and can only block your attacks, just keep slashing him til he dies - I don't really understand his blocking mechanic that well, but I do find that slashing him when your face is at the spot of his sword hilt as he is blocking tends to kill him

- General tips: - Memorise the types and locations of at least the first 10 enemies, this will help you get back faster after you die - Go **SLOW**, you will be able to see the archer and the red samurai before they can attack, and this also give you time to see and react to the ninja - Practise your parry against the ninja, he will appear a lot throughout the level

Piggybanks in Space by Flying Dog Fish 2019-05-02T11:15:26Z

Pretty decent game. I wish there was another way to interact in the game though, perhaps a stamina bar that allows you to speed up temporarily for example.

Meter Maid DX by No Grapes Games 2019-05-02T09:47:30Z

Very cute game, I wish there was a bit more to interact with though.

Good work using Godot, I always love to see support for that engine.

It is actually really fun, and I would love to see the build where the bugs are fixed (the respawn bug especially is quite frustrating to go through). I would suggest spending some time adding some simple feedback like when hitting enemies and when you get damaged.
