Hah, the ending made me smirk. Very fun and pretty, though the gameplay felt a little bit rough around the edges

luckydaisy 2018-08-14 04:42

Platforming idea is pretty cool and a fun mechanic to work around while navigating the levels you guys put together.. was pleasantly surprised with the amount of content and #NoSpoilers but I knew I couldnt trust that whale tail at the end

Level design (entrance / exit) was really clean and satisfying for transitions.. With some more polish + checkpoint systems for the longer levels this is a great start

sentrovasi 2018-08-14 04:43

Very nice. I felt compelled to finish it instead of giving up when it got tricky.

gus-the-shark 2018-08-14 05:55

Level design was cool, especially the frickin' space WHALES! First feel levels feel inspired in meat boy. Good work!

hegemege 2018-08-14 15:34

I found the Hi trees :)

Gameplay was quite solid platforming, the levels never felt unfair, but some were definitely too long (or others too short?). The controls felt a bit wonky - in the last level I jumped to the right at full speed and saw a meteor coming down so I tried to avoid it by naturally holding left - yet the character didn't decelerate fast enough. What I should have done to avoid collision was to only remove the D key, which would have made the character stop almost instantly as I learned prior in the game. Felt a bit weird

I liked how the different elements were introduced to the player at a good pace. The game would feel more polished with sound effects and maybe some particle effects when the player dies or when a meteor hits something.

Level design worked, graphics were cool (space whales!), background music was alright.

Loving the creativity here with the space balls. I would have loved to see even more contrast in movement between the space balls and on normal land. I also love how you introduced the player to new elements. Great pacing, overall a great spin on a platforming game.

corbak 2018-08-14 19:04

Really cute graphics. Iteresting idea to switch between different physics in short pieces of the level! Really nice job!

landberglife 2018-08-14 19:06

It's a good game, a game when floaty jumps are a part a of the mechanic. The idea of haveing "earth balls" in space was also a pleasent suprice and i wish you would have played with it more :) The fact that you had time to make a leveldesign where i was free to choose different paths is impressive!

atillagallio 2018-08-14 19:20

Really liked the space ball mechanic! Controls felt a little bit weird when moving inside the black sphere. Btw, those space whales were awesome!

carystringfield 2018-08-14 19:29

Fun to play

bigbosserndog 2018-08-14 19:54

Nice! A lot of nice physics based mechanics, and very interesting interpretation on 'running out' of space. Good job! My only problem would be that the controls felt a bit stiff which made it difficult to platform, and sometimes the launch pads would launch you way too high that it would be impossible to anticipate where you would land.

kiri 2018-08-14 21:36

Cute graphics. I really like the space whales! :)

humpert764 2018-08-14 23:34

Cool Game! Try to make a story into that!

fussenkuh 2018-08-15 02:09

Nice game concept. I like the balls-o-space twist with the gravity, very clever. It made a standard platformer game far more unique and enjoyable. The audio was quite nice too. Well done!

disco 2018-08-15 10:50

I like the pacing and tutorials, many games are neglecting this important feature. Nice work.

glaciereclipse 2018-08-15 14:10

I really liked the art, music and the mechanic of the game. But it took me a while to get used to the movement, it felt unresponsive and difficult to control at times. Solid entry tho well done!

o2o 2018-08-15 20:27

Nice gravity jump.I love that much!:D

I don't like this music:|It make me feel bad.

I hope you can give meteorite add a explosive effort when them destroy.

And I like this control feeling(may be I like fast running

j-star 2018-08-15 20:38

I really like the game! Nice graphics, audio is well done (but could use a death sound), but I don't get the interpretation of "running out of space". Overall well done and feels very polished!

Well hello there

I had a blast playing Space Balls! The art is awesome and I really enjoyed the music, not to mention the Easter eggs (The ones I could find anyway)

The ending was also pretty funny, can't believe you made me do that

Well done and congrats on an amazing entry!

iarzu 2018-08-15 20:39

An enjoyable game, I didn't finish it yet but its good, the design was good, the thematic amazing and the use of color beautiful, I cant wait to finish it 4/5. :D

shafournee 2018-08-15 21:49

@zchangvx @hegemege @atillagallio @bigbosserndog @crneumre Thanks everyone for the amazing words! It really means a lot! I think the biggest thing I've taken away from this is that the way the game controls is really important refine. It's a tough thing to iron out, so I think I'll spend the next few weeks trying to make a really solid character controller to get a better idea of how to make one that feels good. Thanks for the constructive criticism everyone!

shafournee 2018-08-15 21:53

@luckydaisy Thanks so much! It would be cool to flesh this out into a more complete idea honestly. I'd probably want to go back through and remake a lot of the stuff (specifically the controls on the character, haha). Thanks again for your kind words!

shafournee 2018-08-15 21:56

@tony-redmer Thanks for the suggestion! I think more of a difference between space balls and land is an awesome idea. Maybe even implementing different types of gravity's, like things that change your gravitational direction could be awesome. Thanks for playing!

shafournee 2018-08-15 21:58

@gus-the-shark Thanks for playing, and I'm glad you love the whales, haha. They were all the artists idea :D. Also, Meat Boy was actually the inspiration in a lot of ways, so I'm glad that was clear! That's actually really cool!

shafournee 2018-08-15 21:58

@sentrovasi Wow, that's really awesome. Thanks for playing, and for finishing the game! It means a lot!

shafournee 2018-08-15 22:00

@corbak Thanks dude, that means a lot!

shafournee 2018-08-15 22:01

@landberglife Yeah, I feel like there's a lot of cool new stuff we could do with the space balls. Maybe I'll try it out soon!

shafournee 2018-08-15 22:02

@disco Thanks! I wasn't sure how well we were pacing it, because I haven't done any design before. I'm glad to know it felt gradual and things were introduced well. Thanks for playing, it means a lot! :D

shafournee 2018-08-15 22:03

@pixeljerry Thanks for playing! I'm glad you liked the ending, haha. And good job with finding the secret!

veilastrum 2018-08-15 22:48

Aha, I like your take on the theme. The ending was hilarious for some reason. Good game.

conspite 2018-08-16 09:31

I really like the mechanic of having pockets of space with different properties (Mainly gravity here). The gameplay is paced out well, and the ending levels remind of the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy.

I would suggest putting some time into sound effects, which the game is lacking, as music and sound can make and break games. But the fact that the game is fun regardless of the lack of sound effects mean that you guys made a pretty solid game.

shafournee 2018-08-16 13:39

@conspite Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed! I totally agree about the sound effects. I'm gonna make sure we don't neglect that stuff for next ludum dare.

shafournee 2018-08-16 13:40

@veilastrum I'm glad you liked our interpretation of the theme, haha. I was worried it might not fit as well, but we thought it was cool enough to try! Thanks for playing!

linver 2018-08-18 06:28

Like physics-based game!

I had some lags at the first half of the game with 4k full screen mode, but then I got that it was a bad idea and play at the defaut screen size :D You can remove unity banner and "full screen" button from the builded html by removing "footer" div area inside html text.

The ending is very surprising after escaping so much ways to die. :D
