That was pretty neat! The screenshots reminded me of Osiris: New Dawn. I saw that the buildings had doors, but I wasn't sure if I could open them. What threw me off the most was getting hit from the side or behind by the giant ants. I didn't realize I was taking damage until I noticed my health counter go down.

Congratulations! For a first time dive into a Compo, you did really well :)

falk-bruskeland 2017-07-31 14:50

Beautiful graphics and addicting gameplay.

rootpew 2017-07-31 14:51

Good job! Only critique I'd have is your troop moves a little too slow, and it'd be nice to have some feedback for successful shots.

Other than that though, very well done to you. The models and textures are pretty decent, animations are a nice touch too.

manafest 2017-07-31 15:01

My favourite parts of this game were the animations like the gun reload and the ants! Both of these bits looked pretty decent too :)

drachmor 2017-07-31 15:02

This was incredibly entertaining! I failed miserably on my first attempt, but I became quite the sharpshooter my second time around. The visuals are simple, but effective. The sound design is good, although the song gets a tiny bit repetitive. Overall I enjoyed the combat, but I suggest giving the player some feedback when they hit an enemy (not just when they kill an enemy). Great job!

krishnasism 2017-07-31 15:04

Game was pretty neat for something made in such a short time span! Wish I were as skilled as you :( But nonetheless. Pretty good game and was fun. Balanced game, not too overwhelming, not too easy. Really good. Graphics, sound, gameplay were polished. Congratulations!

mariandev96 2017-07-31 15:17

This is a fine game , but you should have made the ants move faster or added a new type of ant that is faster but has lower health.

The game feels a bit unbalanced because I was getting more bullets than I needed and I never felt that I have to keep on eye on how many I have left. Also, the health seamed a bit unnecessary because you can easily avoid the ant and never get damage.

Another thing , you could have made it so that when a generator gets destroyed something happens that changes the gameplay a bit to make it more intense.

Another two small things: I can't shoot an enemy through a health pack and the enemies look like they are floating above the ground (a bit , not much).

Overall the experience was ok and with a little bit of tweaking it could be much more enjoyable.

sgt3v 2017-07-31 16:17

@tompendergrass I never played that game and I really should. Thanks for your feed back, there so many things lacking polish but Im glad I was able to finish it somehow.

@falk-bruskeland thank you so much :0)

@rootpew If I had a bit more time I would like to add difficulty settings to solve that but did not want to make the game too difficult and get the players bored. Thank you.

@manafest I enjoyed recording the reload sound especially, it is from my keychain :0)

@drachmor I'm glad that you liked it, means so much to me. I wanted to add decals and hit sounds but could not manage my time, hopefully will do such details in the future games.

@krishnasism Thank you very much. I was not hopeful about being able to finish it but thankfully it happened :0)

@mariandev96 Thank you for your detailed review! If I ever feel like further developing this surely take your advices into consideration.

frostdragonliz 2017-07-31 16:18

Nice graphics for a compo entry!

kalibrated 2017-07-31 16:36

Hey man, cool game, congrats on your first FPS! I wish I had explored a new genre like that, I bet it feels great to have finished it.

The gun model and enemy model were amazing for doing in a weekend, good work on that.

I had a lot of trouble defending both outposts at the same time so I gave up pretty quickly.

jchaplin 2017-07-31 17:25

Cool & Fun! Nice job!

quixatocs 2017-07-31 17:41

This is great! I really love the look of the ants (those damn ants!) and the gun too. The shot flash is real slick too!

quixatocs 2017-07-31 17:41

Oh, great job on the UI too!

jakylgamer 2017-07-31 18:35

not bad, aiming felt really fast and i do not recommend windowed mode as when the mouse leaves the window it jerks the view and confuses you a bit.

sgt3v 2017-07-31 18:57

@frostdragonliz Thank you, I've always been doing the graphics on game jams this is the second game jam I actually did the programming too.

@kalibrated Than you, it is actually pretty simple if you try couple of time :0)

@jchaplin Thank you!

@quixatocs ahaha muzzle flash looks terrible :D I just did not want to change it.

@jakylgamer That issue only happens on the browser since its a FPS game. You can download and play for better experience.

filippy 2017-07-31 19:10

Hi I really liked this one! really neat graphics, especially the UI elements which look sick

willdata 2017-07-31 19:18

Fun game and I liked the concept!

adroitconceptions 2017-07-31 19:50

Could really use some feed back when a generator is being attacked. Web-build the UI didn't scale with screen size (so really oversized unless you maximize the window). The 3D objects are quite well done for a 48 hour jam. Did have an issue with mouse look even maximizing the window on the web-build.

hhsaez 2017-07-31 20:22

Fun game, with lots of potential. Nice graphics and sound effects! I see this game becoming some sort of FPS/Tower Defense in the future, with levels and a store for improvements and weapons. Nice work!

pitpony 2017-07-31 20:28

Very slick for 48 hours. I'd have liked a sprint key but appreciated the incredible range of the gun - really fun.

Great job.

ryzy27 2017-07-31 20:30

Best graphics and animations I have seeen so far. This game really looks good.

One thing I have noticed that might be a bug is that you can't shoot through ammo and health pickups. What are those?! Shields for ants?!

One other thing... why do you start the game with 5 ammo in the magazine? I guess it's to show that cool reloading animation.

The game looks very good and is well polished. Good job!

Edit: As someone that has absolutely no experience I that kind of things, how did you make those two portraits at beginning and end of game? First one looks like someone wearing a VR set. Is it made from real-life picture?

sgt3v 2017-07-31 20:41

@filippy Thank you so much!

@willdata Thank you!

@jason-kennedy Thank you Jason. It was my mistake to forget making the UI scale to a certain size, so IU elements appear to be too big on small screen size.

@hhsaez I was not planning to continue working on it but you just gave me a good idea.

@pitpony Thank you, I wish I started a bit early and fixed all those issues but I was a bit lazy.

@ryzy27 Ahh pickups were the last thing I added to the game and completely forget that would be an issue. But I can say it makes the game a bit more challenging, not a bug a feature :P and yes you just guessed why the 5 bullets.

max-amaden 2017-07-31 20:58

Nice job on the game! It's quite simple, yet feels very polished and satisfying to play. Oddly enough, my favourite bit of the game is the HUD design -- it's just so smooth and professional-looking, I really like it :P

Keep up the good work, I hope to see you around for another Ludum Dare! :)

2017-07-31 21:10

Nice quality assets for something made in such a short time. Well done!

alaah 2017-07-31 21:28

Great execution! The graphics are incredible and the concept is good.

In overall it's too easy. I was just standing in a corner sniping enemies on the other side of the map, and picking up ammo drops (health drops were unnecessary). Also, maybe it's an illusion, but strafe seems much faster than forward/backward movement. The weapon range and accuracy should be decreased in my opinion.

It's fun to play and very solid, especially for a first try. An LD game is rarely well-balanced, so you shouldn't be very much concerned about it.

seanw 2017-07-31 22:37

The game was fun! I found myself wishing I could jump even though it wouldn't have really added much gameplay-wise.

ganbaregameskyle 2017-07-31 22:43

There's an odd glitch where ants can attack a generator from the other side of the map.

perdugames 2017-07-31 22:55

Very good, the modeling was really cool, and the music too, I missed jumping just. XD

ganny 2017-07-31 23:51

Sweet game, remainds me of starship troopers. Had some problems playing though becouse my mouse sence was to high.

sgt3v 2017-08-01 00:08

@max-amaden Thank you so much, hope to see you next LD!

@fero Thank you very much, I appreciate it :0)

@starlight-glimmer-is-best-poney Thank you so much! I will fix those issues and update it after compo rating ends.

@seanw I true that, sometimes my thumb goes to space bar even if I cant jump in some of the games :D

@ganbaregameskyle There are couple of flaws in the ant ai, I will hopefully fix those at a later time.

@perdugames Thank you so much :0)

@ganiester Thank you! Many people complained about that actually, I better add a settings part to the game too.

fl 2017-08-01 01:41

Satisfactory FPS. Very good for first compo entry. There is a problem with the mouse goes out of screen who annoyed me a lot. The "Quit" option didn't worked on WebGL. LOL

drprettypatty 2017-08-01 02:25

The textures and graphics looked really clean and slick, and I appreciated the details like the gunshot pitch changing, smooth-as-butter movement, and tactful use of materials. I thought the sensitivity was a bit high (in the web player), but it was easy to work around by using strafing for fine-tuning shots. All in all, it's a solid, polished, complete entry, which means you managed scope very well (not easy!). Great work!

freedom-is-slavery 2017-08-01 03:23

I can't believe this is your first FPS and you pulled it out in 48 hours. It is one of the most awesome entries. Great job, man!

dob 2017-08-01 04:40

Very cool visuals and game execution. The web version was too slow to be playable for me, with big jumps in controls. I loved the ant art, and the visual style was just great. The music is simple but works, and the architecture/modeling is a lot of fun. As others said, some indication that you've hit an ant would be great - especially from a long distance, it was hard to know if you had any success or not. Very nice work.

tinykidtoo 2017-08-01 05:07

Fun little FPS. Reminded me of EDP a little bit, though with a lot less ants. My only complaint is that the mouse sensitivity seemed sort of high in the WebGL version, and that my mouse didn't get locked to the window, resulting in me having to spin around to get the mouse back in the right place.

vija02 2017-08-01 05:45

Nice simple game. It's a bit too easy for me. It'd be nice to have an indicator when i hit the enemy. I assumed there was a range since it looks like a shotgun. But turns out i can stand in the middle and hit any enemy. Nice visuals. Would be great to have more movement options. Nice one overall :D

didactylos 2017-08-01 06:11

Really slick intro - I like that. What I like about this is it shows exactly what is possible with a simple concept. This might make an excellent tutorial.

The cursor was a nice touch.

supremefist 2017-08-01 08:07

Very well done! Great models and animations. Great gameplay too, but a hit indicator would be great as the others requested. Congratulations on your first FPS!

autovelop 2017-08-01 08:59

Nice FPS for the time you had. Everything else is spot on now you can work on what happens after the first successful defence. Thanks for the game and taking part.

speedysloth99 2017-08-01 09:56

Very great game! The models are great, and the shooting was satisfying (I just mean it felt like you really were pressing the trigger) and for 48 hours, I couldn't want more. The only problem I had was a bug with the camera movement, but I still had a bunch of fun!

duck-games 2017-08-01 10:09

Great game! First FPS I've played this whole ludum dare. Good work!

samuli-salonen 2017-08-01 10:46

I find it's hard to aim because the sensitivity is so high. Otherwise pretty cool game!

abductedplatypus 2017-08-01 11:34

Always impressive to see a 3D shooter in the Compo. I could snipe most enemies without moving, and just grabbing ammo when needed. Also would love a bit more recoil. Minor things though, and since its a Compo-entry so getting all that done by yourself in time. Great stuff!

goloso-games 2017-08-01 12:24

Impressive intro. Doing a FPS in the Compo is incredible, congratulations (you are probably the only one). Graphics are really good, great work with models and gunshots animation was very creative. Good job !

fangzhangmnm 2017-08-01 13:07

I love the color and the simplicity of gameplay. The color are very matched. I love the painted texture and clear modeling.

However, the biggest problem is there is no feedback whether I shot the ants. Additional, at first I'm not certain where I should go. you can use arrows or lights to tell player where the game takes place. I want more bass of shot audio. That can emphasize the feedback.

The mouse is not sensitive, It's hard to aim. I donnot know whether it is my computer's problem. And I want to jump.

sgt3v 2017-08-01 15:19

@fl Thank you! That mouse problem happens in web version, after a couple of spins it locks the mouse. I don't know why :/

@drprettypatty Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked it :0)

@freedom-is-slavery Indeed this was my first compo and first FPS but I have been joining other game jams for a long time now, I am a veteran game jammer if you don't mind me saying :0) Experience helps a lot.

@dob Thank you so much, I wish I had time to add decals too but it was too late for that.

@tinykidtoo Thank you! Many people complained about that actually, but I fixed that. I thought it was against the rules of compo to make bug fixes after due time but seems like it is not for minor fixes.

@vija02 Thank you so much, hopefully I will add options and some other improvements after voting time ends.

@didactylos Thank you so much. I am not so proud of the code I've written actually, If you'd go to github link and examine you'd see what I mean :P

@supremefist Thank you very much. I made some of the fixes but decals are an extra feature so wont be able to add it :0(

@autovelop Thank you so much, I will hopefully keep working on this in my spare time.

@speedysloth99 Thank you! I also found this event very much entertaining and educational, I have learnt a great deal of things.

@duck-games Thank you! But you should check thoroughly there are some other really cool FPS game there I came up with.

@samuli-salonen That has been fixed, thank you for the feedback :0)

@abductedplatypus Thank you so much! Yeah the recoil animation a bit impactless for a big gun, might edit that later.

@goloso-games Thank you! I always love adding some story, intro and ending to bind the game to some events. Also try to do my best in short time with animated details. These were not good enough but worked good for the game :P

@fangzhangmnm Thank you very much! Yeah it always feel like there is a need of jumping in FPS games, since there was no obstacle to move over I chose not to spend any time on it. And decals were too late to make when I published the game, but will add for sure after compo ends.

fazz 2017-08-01 17:16

Unfortunately for me I got my FPS chops in the 90s and never got the hang of this non-inverted y-axis mouse nonsense, and so found your game incredibly hard. It's excellent though, really very good. I definitely would've enjoyed taking a few more of those bugs to hell with me!

Loved the graphics style by the way. Very raypunk!

rakowu 2017-08-01 17:23

great what you made in this time :) It would be nice some grafic feedback if the enemys getting hitten or not. In my case there happen a strange bug, the camera moves sometimes down. And the camera moves to fast. But it is realy good.

daydreamerstudios 2017-08-01 17:25

Amazing shooter and it matches perfectly with the theme. Keep up the good work!

brendan-engelman 2017-08-01 18:12

This game was pretty impressive, especially considering it was made for a game jam. It could use a bit more polish (things like enemy hit animations, etc.), but the graphics were very good and the gameplay was fun.

bombjack 2017-08-01 18:14

nice game. I liked the simple graphics a lot. And the mars ants !!!! amazing idea :)

ludic-studios 2017-08-01 18:20

Wow!! Nice job! fun to play and the 3d is really nice for 48h of dev!

hadik 2017-08-01 18:27

That soundtrack remaind me first episode OST in Doom 1 :) Anyway good entry but if take more time for polishing it could be better :) Ants are maybe too slow. Also I have problem with mouse lock, it's not wokring everytime I just move mouse out of the game window (WebGL version and also at windows version)

hadik 2017-08-01 18:27

gettingrekt 2017-08-01 19:01

Really solid FPS and with some impressive models. One thing to bear in mind is that I think you move faster by strafing at an angle and walk forward at the same time. Not that it matters for this game, but maybe for the next one

steff-kempink 2017-08-01 19:23

Really cool. It was neat how you made the gun sounds from drum sounds. The music was super cool too.

I think you could've made your existing art assets shine a lot more if you'd added more layers to them. The muzzle flash is quite rough, but the same asset could've worked out if you'd had created a duplicate and scaled it up really big for 1 or 2 frames, then maybe leave a smaller one for a few frames more. Right now the muzzle flash is medium sized and present for too long. Same goes for the explosions. I get that they are super rough and miss custom textures, but again just by adjusting the way you layer the effect it could've worked a lot better too. Right now the explosion just smudges outward. Try making the scale over time super large at the start (for an instant), then smaller again then bloom out slowly. And again shorten the duration of the initial flash.

Did you also try adding fog? It's a super easy way to add cheap atmosphere. Especially on our dear red planet. For alien planets, a fairly desaturated bright color that's still quite close to the color of the sky usually works quite well. Think how regular atmosphere color appears, but then slightly funky. Don't overdo the effect (generally, general omnipresent fog is one of the few effects you can easily overdo), just add in a small pop. It just takes a couple of button presses.

It's cool how you tried to add the short radio blurbs. It's super rough, but even the presence of a placeholder story is much appreciated over an arena presented without presentation. Your menu animation was also neat. Glad you could sneak that one in in time!

estebe 2017-08-01 19:27

The core gameplay and mechanics were pretty good and engaging! I really had to keep an eye on the other generator whilst fighting of the ants at the nearest. I also had to decide to go for ammo far away from the generators, or take a chance on having enough. Good balance!

I thought the audio was the weak point. The sound effects weren't fitting and the music is monotonous (but at least you've got music, I don't! ;).

The graphics are top notch though! The best thing I liked was the transition from the starting screen to the planet! I like little touches like that.

Lots of work was done I can tell, and you're still working hard for the compo, being top rater!

michael-feldman 2017-08-01 19:58

Really felt like I was on Mars. Awesome job with the 3D. I like the system used on the power generators of lights. It looks like some real space tech. The ants kind of freaked me out, but I guess they were supposed to ;) all in all, good game!

zelos 2017-08-01 21:23

Awesome graphics for a compo entry. The music is also not bad at all. The SFX on the other hand aren't very good and get annoying a bit too quickly. I had quite a bit of fun with the game itself though.

The shooting itself felt pretty good, although I felt like the ants needed some sort of indicator I hit them. A red flash or something would be enough. My shots didn't have any impact.

I'm pretty impressed you did a FPS for the compo though. And a working one at that. Good work.

By the way - are you sure you already decreased the mouse sensitivity? Felt waaaay to high.

sgt3v 2017-08-01 22:09

@fazz Thank you so much, I wish I had the time to add some settings to the game not to upset players.

@rakowu Thank you, there are some issues with the web player it seems.

@daydreamerstudios Thank you, I definitely will!

@brendan-engelman Thank you very much, hopefully I will fix and add missing stuff to the game after the compo ends.

@bombjack I'm not entirely sure why I choose ants but red soil gives me the feeling only ants would live there :P

@ludic-studios Thank you :0)

@hadik I wish I could make music as good as that this was one of my first time trying to make music for a game, totally noob to the electronic music makery.

@gettingrekt ahaha yeah looks like the speed is square root 2 :D need to fix that.

@steff-kempink Thank you so much, I will try to learn more about making music since I am totally illiterate on that. I tried to make the muzzle flash using particles but that was a failure, just left it how it is. Looks terrible but did the job :0) I totally forgot about adding fog, very good idea indeed. Thank you again for your feedback and recommendations.

@estebe Thank you very much, I hope to improve my music skills. I just didn't want to leave the game silent and tried my best. The most fun part for me was making reload sound by a keychain :D

@michael-feldman Thank you so much, I glad you liked it!

@zelos Thank you! I will hopefully add decals to the game after compo rating ends. Maybe I am using my mouse to sensitively it could better be managed by a setting slider can also add that at a later time.

belowparallel-ian 2017-08-01 22:20

It's games like this that make me feel inadequate. Really nice game all around. Seems to be very well balanced as well, considering I won but just barely. The muzzle flash is a nice touch. Needs to be played in full screen in order to avoid the problem of your cursor going off the game screen causing controls to become unresponsive.

michaeltwg 2017-08-01 22:22

Impressive achievement with the 3D graphics for a compo game

bocodillo 2017-08-01 22:59

A good looking game, with nice music and a really cool sounding gun (was a drum?). Movement felt smooth, if a little slow, and the gun felt nice to shoot. Always a must with shooters! Overall a really good game and a great achievement for only 2 days work!

gistnoesis 2017-08-01 23:16

Please capture the mouse inside the control, otherwise it is not playable in Webgl. Impressive graphically and audio for 48h. It even have explosions :) . Nice work. Simple but effective. It would probably be fun in multiplayer mode defending the base with friends.

eggshelldog 2017-08-01 23:34

Really Soild Game!

However, If there are more feather like more enemy or gun, that will be more fun! But it's COMPO, it's really cool to finish it in 48hrs!!! Cool!!!

bewelge 2017-08-01 23:51

Very nice game! Gameplay is quite solid and the graphics are beautiful!

wareification 2017-08-02 00:43

Congrats on the first solo AND first FPS! Very impressive.

Only issue I ran into was running out of ammo and not having any option other than running around the map looking for fragments of ammo. A melee option or a sidearm would have been more ideal, but it still worked out :P.

moostifur 2017-08-02 00:46

Great job on the game. Love the hand painted textures. Very impressive for a solo jam.

don-fouts 2017-08-02 00:49

Hey, great job and grats on finishing the COMPO! I think I had an ant under the level on my first game. The one reactor was powering down on it's own.

spetsdod 2017-08-02 03:10

Nice job for a quick development game. I have a hard time playing games without inverted y-axis so I couldn't play for very long. Smooth gameplay though, although there was some lag during loading and when more ants spawned. Thanks for the game!

cybersoftuk 2017-08-02 03:18

cool game, nice atmosphere, the mouse move was a bit sensitive for me but quality graphics, liked the dialog style. Impressed that you got it done in time for the compo, well done.

benbennett 2017-08-02 04:15

Great job overall. I really liked the artwork and look of the game. I found the game to be rather easy. I could pretty much just stand between the two generators and just shoot the bugs as they spawned. I think another enemy type that went after the player would have helped with this. Then you would have to worry about defending yourself as well as the generators. Overall great job given the time frame!

sir-daniev 2017-08-02 05:55

Nice FPS, just a little too slow for me (I got spoiled by the fast pacing of some titles, sorry). Somehow it reminded me of Earth Defense Force.

A good game, but unfortunately has some major bugs in it (hehe, sorry... had to be done lol).

pcmaster 2017-08-02 05:56

I enjoyed your shooter! I killed all those multi-eyed bastards :) I loved the ground texture, the meshes, the movement, the music, it was well playable. What a shame no other powerups than health and ammo fell out but I totally understand how hard it is to do it for Compo! Epic job and easy to play! :)

tuism 2017-08-02 07:12

The intro was cool :)

The game itself... it's a fairly standard feeling FPS, which really wasn't fun to play because of various reasons: - The walking speed is just too slow, or things were spread out too far. You're chasing from one end to the next constantly and not much actually happens while you're peddling slowly. Trying to shoot tiny targets with your gun is not fun. - The lack of indication of whether you hit the enemy or not is an issue, especially since half the time you're far far away from them. - Chasing down far, far away ammo is not fun. - Needs more feedback when you lose health too.

The art and style was pretty great, I appreciate the work in presentation. But the gameplay itself I think was a miss for me.

oab 2017-08-02 08:01

Great graphics.

I have some issues while playing. UI is too big. It cover 30% of screen and Mouse move outside of screen. It made the gun keep shooting. I almost lose all of bullets. :')

mr-houdini 2017-08-02 10:39

It seems hard to finish a FPS in a compo. Congratulations. There is a lot of things to polish, but this is something you can expect, as I said. I would appreciate some feedback of the enemies life and if they're hitted. Good game overall! Good luck!

freakoftheyear 2017-08-02 12:58

Not bad for a compo entry! The graphics looked good. I really liked the sound effect of health and ammo, made me feel good about picking those up. Also the zoom in to the planet at the beginning felt really awesome and was nice for immersion, helped a lot for feeling that you really were on mars. It was clear what I had to do there. The generator lights design was great and it was easy to spot them from far away. The only downside would be that the game didn't bring anything new, it is really a typical first person shooter/ tower defender. But everything that was in the game, worked. (y)

exr 2017-08-02 13:21

Really good job! If you had this with 48 hours (-sleep -duties) what could you do with more time! Impressive. Art and sfx are great. Gameplay is fun and well known so no need for further explanation. Congrats!

gnerkus 2017-08-02 14:32

I like my insects no larger than 5cm in length.

+++ Polished textures gave a realistic look to the environment and the bugs. ++ Movement, aiming and shooting were responsive. +++ The music and bug sounds helped emphasize the otherworldly mood of the game. ++ It was clear what the gameover conditions were and they were presented with crisp UI.

-- The enemies didn't move or shake when they were shot which made it difficult to tell if I hit them right. -- It would have been nice to see a health bar for the enemies.

This was an excellent entry overall, moreso for a compo. John Hancock says "good job".

jharler 2017-08-02 14:37

I really liked the music beat. I felt it gave great atmosphere. The reloading animation was a cool touch I wasn't expecting. I didn't make it very far, but I enjoyed playing. Great work!

nerdyherbivore 2017-08-02 16:12

Great job! Impressive for your first FPS and Compo! I liked the graphics and textures. The music was appropriately intense. The goal was clear and mechanics were responsive. UI was clean, and gameplay was fun! Fantastic!

hishicorne 2017-08-02 16:36

Hi ! It was a very good game ! The graphics textures are really good and clean, and the music is cool for the ambiance. The game is a bit hard (or maybe it's me who is a mess at fps ?), but very fun - similar to other fps. Maybe adding enemies, healthbar and more animations will make the game better ! But as it is, for a compo, it's a very, very great job !

thelord 2017-08-02 17:03

fun and beautiful game!

surovyi 2017-08-02 20:04

I like the atmosphere and a shooting mechanic (yay). Overall, I managed to stay close to the one spawn point and shoot throw whole map, defending second battery. And I like that I have such option thou. Good job for a Compo!

gonutz 2017-08-02 21:20

Wow, this is impressive for a 48 hour game jam! Really good job, the ants look great and they even have a nice attack animation! Also the environment is really good, this is as immersive as you can get in a game jam I assume :-)

The music and sound effects are very good as well, the gameplay is solid, nice shooter, although it stayed at the same difficulty level, but that's fine with me. Once I noticed I could shoot from any distance I only had to walk somewhere to pick up the ammnuition.

Very good job, thank you and keep up the good work!

zeriver 2017-08-02 21:33

Ah, a good old shooter. Graphics are pretty good and set right climate to the game. Gameplay is neat but gets repetitive after while and is kinda too easy, the only risk is that you will run out of ammunition. But it was still satisfying to keep putting down those gigantic ants. It would be cool if you could jump in low gravity, maybe not necessary mechanic but would add to the 'coolness' aspect :) I also like Metal Gear Solid like messages, that creates some nice immersion. In overall pretty cool game.

belser 2017-08-02 22:51

Seems really fun, but I can't play it - even the native executable has mouse issues. I have multiple monitors, but it might work if you only have one.

aleal-dev 2017-08-02 23:18

Possitive: * 3D graphics. I really like people doing 3d games in gamejams. * Intro menu and music. * Power base design.

Negative: * The controls are too much sensitive. It's hard to aim. * Sometimes the character gets teleported randomly and I didn't understand why :S * It would has been nice to have some feedback in the shots to know if you are hitting an enemy.

Maybe it needs some fixes but it is a nice game though!

Congrats!

damoy 2017-08-03 00:38

Very cool game ! Strong work, contrats :D !

ogma 2017-08-03 03:28

Good job, especially for a solo project! :) Interesting take on the concept, it gives off a Starship Troopers vibe.

The Art direction is pretty nice, I liked the "cartoonish" style of the ants.

The controls were correct, I had to do some ballets move at times to re center my mouse to play. (I saw the disclaimer about the web version after my first try *ahem*) but it was fun.

I didn't manage to win, having a bit of a hard time to find enough ammo and quickly enough, but that might just be me. A little sprint could have been nice but not vital. Our guy is probably tired after days of defending his generators. :/

The change of tones for the shotgun sound effects was a fun touch.^^

quadtree 2017-08-03 03:44

Nice work! I did find it a little disorienting that I couldn't jump, but it probably didn't matter.

d-studios 2017-08-03 03:49

Nice job on this game! I liked the game's use of the theme, especially in that the theme does not overcomplicate the gameplay, but is instead essential to the goal of the game. I also liked the game's 3D art and UI. Please note that you probably should opt out of humor as this game doesn't seem like it was meant to be funny. In conclusion, this game was pretty decent in terms of art and gameplay, but you really should opt out of humor.

jusw85 2017-08-03 05:23

It's a simple FPS, with simple gameplay, but sometimes its the simple things that work best. I liked how everything came together so beautifully to give a cohesive experience.

varelsegames 2017-08-03 06:57

Simple fps game, but it works. Had some control issues with the fact that I play fps games with an inverted y-axis (didn't see an option), but otherwise felt pretty good.

littlelegend 2017-08-03 10:56

What a cool and refreshing fps ! I think the Theme was a bit neglected and i also ran into some gamebreaking bugs, but you managed to create a cool doomlike atmosphere, wich i lie alot :)

evbo 2017-08-03 12:57

I was able to walk straight through one of the generators, and I felt like the hitboxes on the collectibles could have been a little bit more generous, but other than that I have no complaints. This is a really solid entry. Great work!

strangeryann 2017-08-03 15:29

For a first FPS and all on your own, considering the time scale, this is really impressive! Beyond this context, I feel that it's a bit bland. After a while the challenge is to get enough ammo drop to continue killing the big ants and that's about it, the enemy spawn points are really predictable. But what's for sure is that it's a really good base to base your future FPS games on. Nicely done!

coomzy 2017-08-03 18:27

Nice work, I quite enjoyed this game. You certainly got a lot done for a compo game!

I think the weakest part of the game is the feedback, when I shoot a little particle where I hit would. I think it had a walking animation but it was too subtle and the character felt static to me. Also the game was a little too easy.

Still a great entry esp for comp, well done

smdeveloper 2017-08-03 18:57

Nice game, beautiful graphics and even sounds are not bad but long becomes very repetitive, you could add weapons and new enemies to vary the gameplay. However, as always beautiful idea and a good game.

thefunattic 2017-08-03 18:57

Greetings !

Pretty cool game, it's 3D, which is pretty rare. Overall, the game works pretty well, controls are simple (tho it was kind of hard for me since I don't have a QWERTY keyboard). If I could suggest something.. hitmarkers ! The game could use more responsiveness when firing at enemies, letting you know you hit them. Otherwise, the concept is pretty simple, nothing to say about it :)

Feel free to check our game out ! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/berzerk-hunt

recursor 2017-08-03 21:42

Not bad for 48 hours. I wish there was some kind of feedback to let me know if I was hitting the ants. Otherwise, I think it is a great start at a full game.

wisstopher 2017-08-03 21:51

Really good entry! My only problem is that it went on too long without any visible escalation, or variation to the enemies which I would have liked. Other than that strong work! :D

kapricorn-media 2017-08-03 22:42

Loved this!! Nice models and textures. A little repetitive after a while, but nicely done for a 48 hour entry!

christina-antoinette-neofotistou 2017-08-04 03:28

very very impressive! Some more "juiciness" might be needed, as others said (feedback of when you're hitting the ants".

But otherwise it's super pretty and fun! I can't imagine how much headscratching it would have taken to code a 3D game!! congrats

ranner198 2017-08-04 04:22

Nice game loved all of it, just wish there was more in it. maybe a full build game ;)

sebastian-m 2017-08-04 05:03

For a first attempt of a FPS is really good. It's fun to play and it looksreally cool. You could mporve some things though:

- Make some indication of the bullet path, even when it's a raycast you coudl show a trail. - Make something that could give the player feedback when they shoot an ant, for example a blood spash or a sound.

But great job!!!

sgt3v 2017-08-04 06:32

@belowparallel-ian Hey, you should never feel so. I have been making games for jams about 4 years now! Its all experience which comes by time and good work.

@michaeltwg Thank you so much!

@bocodillo Thank you, yes those were some drum samples I used in LMMS.

@gistnoesis I have always been scared of working mp games due to error aptness of networking, if I ever have time to learn about it would like to experiment on this game.

@goldranger Thank you so much, more guns and enemies could be done in less than half a day actually, if I weren't lazy I could have added that :P

@bewelge Thank you very much!

@wareification Thank you! Yes! I thought about melee but did not have time to add that :/

@moostifur Thank you so much!

@don-fouts Thank you! That is an AI problem which occurs on a specific case :D

@spetsdod Thank you very much! I will definitely add settings next time, since I don't need such changes never felt the need of these since people requested.

@cybersoftuk Thank you, I glad you liked it. I realized I just move my hand one inch to move the cursor one side to another, that was all because of me.

@benbennett Thank you so much. That is a very good idea indeed, forcing the player into action.

@sir-daniev Ahaha thank you, I will try my best to kill those bugs :0)

@pcmaster Thank you so much, if only I had time could ad more and more.

@tuism Thank you. I really had no chance to focus on the fun factor of the game since I had to develop it as fast as possible.

@oab Thank you! Yes the UI was not scaled, so on small screens (such as web player) UI appears too big.

@mr-houdini Thank you very much. Hopefully after compo ends I will polish the game some more.

@freakoftheyear You know I do stuff good 8)

@exr Thank you so much, I really appreciate it.

@gnerkus Thank you so much for detailed feedback, bugs better be small and cute :0)

@josh-h I am just illiterate about music making, watched couple of tutorials and tried my luck. Seems like it worked.

@nerdyherbivore Thank you so much, I am so glad you find it great.

@hishicorne Thank you very much! You can choose your strategy to make the game easy actually. Give it a one more try :0)

@thelord Thank you lord :D

@surovyi Thank you! That is also the strategy I used to win the game easily.

@gonutz Thank you so much. I fixed some of the issues thanks to feedbacks I got here.

@zeriver Thank you very much. Those two guys in the mgs like messages are my game jam buddies and dear friends who could not join me this time so I had to do the compo :0)

@belser Oh I never thought of such a problem to happen, and do have no ideea how to fix that :/

@aleal-dev Thank you, some of the problems are due to web player, I need to make some research to learn how to handle that.

@damoy Thank you! :muscle:

@ogma Thank you so much! That makes me so happy to hear that people are paying attention to small details I added :0)

@quadtree Thank you! Yes no-jumping FPS games feels a bit weird.

@d-studios Thank you very much. I just didn't know I could opt out of one of the categories, it makes sense not to have it for this game.

@jusw85 Thank you so much.

@varelsegames Thank you! Y-invert option is noted, and will definitely add it if I make a 3D FSP jam game.

@littlelegend Thank you. You see, there are a lot of bugs in the game.

@evbo Thank you very much!

@strangeryann Thank you very much! Yeah there is actually not much to do in the game just one boring 5 min long task :D

@coomzy Thank you so much!

@smdeveloper Thank you! I will definitely learn more about making music.

@thefunattic Thank you so much! I checked your game and omg :D that was totally insane!

@recursor Thank you!

@wisstopher Thank you! :muscle:

@christina-antoinette-neofotistou Thank you so much! Luckily Unity3D is pretty generous about providing good and easy to work environment for 3D games.

@ranner198 Thank you, I hope I can continue on it with much better content and context.

@sebastian-m Thank you so much, a big miss I made is adding hit marks and decals, will learn how to make it and add it later!

theflyingkeyboard 2017-08-04 10:58

Really fun game to play, nice graphics and sounds. Interesting idea for an FPS game. Adding some recoil would make it more fun. Great Job!

solah 2017-08-04 11:04

That's a nice compo entry. I think that the range of your gun is too big, it make the game a bit too easy because you don't really have to move to shoot every alien ant. With a short range and ants attacking you when you are getting close, you could get something more challenging I think.

Your graphics are really good and it's fun to play. Well done!

nick-rafalski 2017-08-04 12:45

Great game, especially for a first FPS. I really enjoyed how simple but fun the mechanics are. It got really dicey near the end when I was down to 1 power core, low on ammo, and had to survive for another ~40 seconds. I definitely felt accomplished for winning.

Adding some recoil and an animation when you take damage would go a long way to improving the feel of the game, but you still accomplished a lot for 48 hours.

P.S the main menu was surprisingly polished for a LD game. Lots of juiciness there.

Great job

unidaystudio 2017-08-04 14:08

I don't know why, but the mouselook didn't work well here... You didn't reset the mouse position, so my mouse kept going out of the screen and making me click on my PC windows. When I shoot, the camera change the position drastically. Try to make a bug fix version, and notice me!

By the way, great graphics :D

3mpty 2017-08-04 15:55

Gun feedback was not very good, the sound is acceptable but the lack of tracers and bullet impacts really hurts the game feel. Enemies also don't react to damage until destroyed. The general art is pretty lacklustre too, a simple light source would have made the game much more visually appealing. Lack of variety in weapons and enemies makes this a very boring point and click adventure. Either polishing the existing mechanics by improving weapon and damage feedback, or adding more interesting mechanics than a basic hitscan weapon would go a long way for a simple game like this.

thatsnillet 2017-08-04 17:07

I usually don't like games with the "defend the objective" style gameplay, but i really enjoyed this one. The graphics are really good for a 3d LDJAM game, and the time limit was not long enough to make it boring. I also kinda like the drum sounds the gun makes. An overall good entry!

wdebowicz 2017-08-04 19:37

Nice looking and enjoyable game. The combination of audio and fire animation is really funny.

heather-flowers 2017-08-04 21:27

A fun game! The audio was a bit quiet. I liked how the game auto-balances in a way: the farther out the ants are when you kill them, the farther you have to go to pick up their drops, giving the ants more time to attack.

luckyfeathers 2017-08-04 22:12

Cool! Best Ludum Dare FPS I've seen in a while. Controls and story are quick to learn and gameplay can start right away. Enemies look good, and the game in general looks quite good.

The sensitivity is quite high. I wish there was a sensitivity slider, because it's quite difficult to aim at enemies far away. There should have been some sort of recoil, because when you do get your aim straight, you can hit enemies across the map and you don't really need to move around the map at all. Game is a little bit too easy in my opinion.

studio-rtv 2017-08-05 02:45

Preaching to the choir here, but this was a really good game! One of the few that I've actually bothered playing until the end, so great work. :) I think given the short time frame with Compo, a lot of the bells and whistles that would have made the game more polished (ant hit feedback, generator SFX, etc) just got lost because you were running out of time, and I don't really mind overlooking them. It was still an incredibly strong game overall, loved the modeling and especially the animations (which often get overlooked in game jams), and the small story element to it too.

One thing I will point out though, is that the game was challenging until I lost the first generator, after which it got *significantly* easier. While I still had the two generators, I had to manage my time at each generator carefully and constantly have to evaluate which generator was in more trouble. I also had to manage my bullets carefully, since sometimes I'd have to leave a generator in danger while I ran over to get more ammo whenever I was about to run out. However, once I lost the first generator, I lost all of that tactical decision making as well. Since I knew where all the ants were going to go now, all I had to do was camp the one generator and wait for them to come close enough so they'd drop ammo right in front of me.

Anyway though, I still had a crapton of fun playing your game, and can't wait to see what else you make. Awesome entry! :)

shaolin-dave 2017-08-05 05:19

Very loosley followed the theme, seemed like more of a first-person tower defense. Aiming was very difficult. Enemies had virtually no AI.

3D modeling was really good, though. I'd suggest working on the enemies, maybe have waves spawn at different places and use pathfinding/AO to have them seek out the generators and the player.

rikoclon 2017-08-05 07:22

Not to repeat what others said, but the mouse-look was not only too sensitive, but for example if I kept looking left, like in circles, eventually the mouse movement would hit the end of the screen and stop looking in that direction. this was in full screen mode.

The gun and the ant models looked great.

I loved how you could see the life left on the generator.

The drum sound REALLY bothered me. Add some faded white noise and far less pitch variation in drum hits if that's what your going to use. honestly I could make better sounds with my mouth, or tapping paper against a mic, I assume you could too. the problem was that with the tom tom gun and no hit response on the enemies it felt like I was playing a music game rather than a shooter.

A great Idea would be to model some massive ant hills or holes in the terrain that the ants come out of rather than just appearing.

Great job finishing a working game in 48 hours. The models/animations looked great for the time constraint. the music was good for the game. did well on theme graphics and mood. the fun factor was hurt by the mouse-look unfortunately, and the game was not terribly innovative. Stuck to the theme tho, def points for that!

sagarpatel25700 2017-08-05 08:29

- The game is really good one things i would like to mention - The generators are way to far ..which makes the gameplay a bit boring - Also if there would be some bullet trail effect or like a lazer beam then it would give a player a visual effect of shooting

vodzik 2017-08-05 11:01

Nice game! I think mouse is a little bit too sensitive. Also on HTML5 version it is sometimes doing wierd stuff. It would be nice to have some feedback, when hitting enemy, and also when enemy hits you or your base. I realy like gun and hands animations. Good job :)

nyckos 2017-08-05 14:21

Very impressive given the time constraint. Seriously, this is incredible. I liked the gun animation, and also the ants. Good job!! :D

mik3 2017-08-05 16:13

Nicely done FPS in the short time give, it looked well visually, but it would be nice to have the fired projectiles and hits on the ants visible, as there was no hit indication, I assume you simply ran out of time. The reloading animation was a nice touch.

sinclairstrange 2017-08-05 17:16

It looked great, those ants sure looked menacing! Gameplay while pretty simple and basic was sure fun and hectic towards the end when you had ants coming out of the wazoo. Only gripe I had was the mouse look was extremely sensitive and also a bit buggy, mostly on the web version. Overall fantastic work for a compo entry! :)

ethan-kennerly 2017-08-05 17:49

When I shot ants approaching the green towers, I felt excited! If you continue to develop this, I wasn't clear how to get more ammo. And probably it is my trackpad, but sometimes my camera tilted down toward my feet. Since the enemies are all on the horizontal plane, is there a way I could rotate the camera with the keyboard, such as Q and E keys and fire such as with SPACE?

almax 2017-08-05 20:03

Excellent visuals and solid controls, however I didn't find the shooting very rewarding, sound was lack luster and there was no hit feedback which made knowing if I was actually doing damage to an enemy impossible. Would also like to have seen sprint on shift to help speed up the pace.

levidsmith 2017-08-06 02:16

The models and animations for the ants and the player's hands and gun were really well done. The rings around the towers turning from green to red showing the tower health was also a nice touch. The ticking sound quickly got on my nerves. The music loop seemed a little too simple as well. I survived for 5 minutes on my second try, which seems to be a little too long with nothing new happening. More levels with different enemies and more environmental stuff (walls, trees, etc) in different layouts would help. I also had a problem with the cursor leaving the window, which would cause the game window to become unfocused. There is example code available on the web for locking the cursor to the middle of the screen in Unity so it doesn't leave the window.

sarrixx 2017-08-06 05:17

Cool game, was pretty fun to play. A couple of things that could use improvement - first of all some variety in both enemy types and weapon types would make it a lot more interesting and fun to play around with (but obviously the time constraints of a game jam make this very difficult when you're the only developer :P ) and secondly having some variability to the accuracy of the weapons. I found it really easy because if I just single clicked I would not ever miss. But none the less, a great game for one made in 48 hours - great work!

sgt3v 2017-08-06 08:52

@theflyingkeyboard Thank you so much, recoil is indeed too weak, need to fix that.

@solah Thank you! I fixed that later, while playing the game to make sure gun was working it had really long range and stayed that way later on.

@nick-rafalski Thank you so much, I finished the menu then started on the game :D A good first impression is always better.

@unidaystudio Thank you, there must we a way to fist that on web and windowed play. Need to check that.

@3mpty Well I already know all what you mentioned is right, but you need to comprehend that I made this game in about 30 hours.

@thatsnillet Thank you very much, I tried to squeeze my terrible music abilities to the end and there it is :D

@wdebowicz Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

@heather-flowers Thank you so much, that was one of my intention that you can choose a strategy to win the game even if its simple.

@luckyfeathers Thank you! I will definitely spare some time to add options for the game looks like I thought everyone uses the mouse like I did :D

@studio-rtv Thank you so much! I hope to polish the game as much as I can and maybe make further work on it. And right, losing one generator has no penalty so kind of useless to defend it, its up to you to choose the strategy and defending only one of them was the easiest one I guess.

@shaolin-dave Theme is pretty open and you can use it from any perspective you want, there you are wrong. Spawn points are fixed but ants can detect the closest generator and make a run for it, ip player close enough they chase it, if the generator they were moving to or attacking to is broken down they switch to the closest one. You should play and examine before making any blant comment, and feel free to check the source code.

@rikoclon Thank you so much. I am terrible with music and sound stuff and tried to be done with it as soon as possible that was why it is so neglected :0) I actually wanted to add a boss fight at the end of the game but too late for that idea too.

@sagarpatel25700 Thank you. That is almost everyone's complain so far no feedback on hits, and that is pretty accurate one. I hope to fix it later hopefully.

@vodzik Thank you very much. Web player and windowed play have some issues with mouse, and yes lack of feedback on hit makes things a pretty dull.

@nyckos Thank you so much!

@mik3 Thank you! And yes, It was too late to work on the details for me when the submission time arrived.

@sinclairstrange Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

@ethan-kennerly Thank you sir. I should really consider adding some options to enable old school core gamers to modify the game controls for themselves for the future jsm games I make.

@almax Thank you, yep that is the main issue with the game that I wasn't able to deliver in time and as other basic functions jumping and running could be added.

@levidsmith Thank you so much for the tips, I'll check that for sure. Yes 5 mins were kind of too long but since there was nothing much in the game I wanted to use the time as a factor to keep the player in the game.

@sarrixx Thank you very much. When I have time to work on this game improve it, surely will add more variety of arms and enemies.

bar0net 2017-08-06 12:24

Congratulations!!! The game is quite fun and really well crafted.

I ran into a couple of issues playing the html5 version that someone might have already commented: The mouse cursor running out of screen is a bit annoying and, sometimes, the game kind of suddenly changed where I was aiming to point to the ground.

vulpem 2017-08-06 19:20

Ok, let's first get the bad stuff out of the way so we can get onto the important part.

Soooo... i shouldn't really complain about this, since we're talking about a game made within 48 hours, but i thought you may want to know. I have two screens, and whenever i looked to the right, the mouse would get onto my other screen, and whenever i tried to shoot it minimized the game.

Also, the only feature i missed was some kind of "feedback" to know if i was hitting the ants. Sometimes, when i was far away, i wasn't hitting them and i had no clue about it or otherwise.

Ok, with all of that out of the way... wow. Just, wow. Doing this in 48 hours all alone is, to say the least, impressive. It's a fun game, an interesting concept, and feels pretty polished. Didn't find weird bugss or anything, everything it did, it did properly. Also I, for some reason, i find the drum sound when shooting really amusing xD

Nice work!

red-fan-games 2017-08-07 01:14

Fixed the problem you had with my game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/plasma-arena

feips 2017-08-07 19:25

Beautiful, if I only wasn't that bad at shooters...

rixud 2017-08-08 01:43

nice game! i like very much the intro animation!, nice graphics and animations!, you need to lock the cursor in the center of the screen, preventing they get out and you click outside the windows (this get a little annoying) [ Screen.lockCursor = true; ]... Good JOB!

archimagus 2017-08-09 00:10

I really liked the intro animation it was quite good. The music worked though it was a little repetitive, still it's better than not having any. The gun sound effects were a little weird. I know it's generally good to vary repetitive sounds like gunshots, but I think it was a bit too much. Like music, mediocre sound effects are way better than none.

My only two real complaints are that hitting escape dropped me immediately back to the main menu instead of pausing, which lost me all my progress. And the window doesn't seem to lock the cursor, or at least it didn't after going back and forth to the main menu, so I kept clicking outside the window on my multi monitor setup.

petzi 2017-08-09 18:38

It's a pretty boring game, I'm afraid, at least for someone who's played a few shooters, like me. I have some ideas to make it more fun:

- Difficulty progression, so enemies become faster, spawn more frequently and vary in behaviour (some of them could target the player instead of the generators) - Make enemies spawn all around the base, instead of just those few predefined spots (maybe simply add more spawn points) - Give the player a jetpack with limited control and fuel (having it recharge over time would be the easiest way to balance it, but fuel drops might be more interesting). A high double or triple jump might also work. - Make bullets spray randomly a bit, so the weapon isn't 100% accurate. I always killed the ants easily, regardless of how far away they were. - Don't let the player pick up items if it's going to be wasted.

Technically, it seems to be very well executed, though! The graphics aren't so bad. Making an FPS in 48 hours doesn't seem easy at all. With a bit more focus on the design, it could be pretty addictive.

buzzshock 2017-08-11 05:59

Nice job!

Web Gl version mouse exits game screen often when trying to aim. I enjoy the firing animation and killing the ants.

Definitely a well-executed shooter given the time frame. The core gameplay loop is solid, and I liked having the enemies drop pick ups as a concept. I did manage to get stuck in a situation where I ran out of ammo and no enemies had dropped, so perhaps some kind of respawning pickup back at the base would help out with that? The lack of indication of where the shots were landing was my only real complaint, the pickups thing is mostly my own fault. Very polished too, I appreciated the transitions and the generator light indicator thingys were a really nice touch.

Cool shooter alien game, nice game you have here, congrats :D

First of all, I played the fixed version. But holy cow, that is some great work for compo.

The music felt kinda Doom-ish, so that was a nice bonus. Darker atmosphere would help the game for sure!

However, there were some issues, like:

- tracers of guns would be really nice, now I was shooting, but it wasn't really visible IMHO - some damage indicators on enemies would be helpful, I was not sure if I was hitting the enemies on long distance - the movement controls we OK, but since the music brought Doom atmosphere, I think much faster movement would be in order; or even proper quake-ish controls could be useful, including bhoping and stuff :)

**My biggest pet peeve was the ESC key quitting the game, not just pausing it!**

hadesfury 2017-08-15 09:26

Very well done ...

captain-laserstorm 2017-08-16 17:13

Nice job! The models for the ants were great, they kind of reminded me of half-life with all of those eyes. :D

Nice graphics! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jtt-Piir6X0

Pretty neat for a first compo game! The graphics are really cool and I liked the ant enemies. The music gets a bit repetitive after a while, but the style fits very well the game, so a track just a bit longer would be just great. anyway gameplaywise, well I'm probably useless, I never managed to save those generators, always run out of ammo. But it's a nice variant of FPS. All in all congrats, it's a really good entry!

tim-eriksen 2017-08-21 11:39

Whoa, there is a lot of comments here! I really liked the game :) It was a bit repetitive, but it was really good for being a compo game! Well done :)

joshburleson 2017-08-21 14:18

You already have a ton of valuable feedback from others so the only thing I'll say is it's really impressive for a first time compo game. Great job. Also really liked the alien ants lol.

joshyoshkenoshi 2017-08-21 22:31

I'm really impressed with this as a compo entry. Your models and textures alone, although relatively basic, must have taken a great deal of time to create! As a simple FPS this game works really well. As an idea for a possible improvement, I'd suggest having 'caves' or something in the rocks for the ants to spawn 'out of', as at the moment it looks a little strange if you're looking at them when they spawn. ;)

this is a great game!!!!!

fillefilip8 2017-08-22 08:47

Very nice game. Damn alien ants eating my other generator when I look away. Very nice game for being a Compo! That ant noise was very nice as well.

@bar0net Thank you. Yes that issue already there, hopefully I will fix lotsa things after today when I have free time.

@vulpem Thank you very much. That is so true, no feedback about hits makes it dull. I just didn't notice it while making the game.

@feips Play more shooters! :D

@rixud Thank you so much for the tip, will add that for sure.

@archimagus Thank you. This was my first time trying to make some music for a game. And hopefully will fix the issues soon.

@petzi When you make a game alone it is quite possible to miss the fun factor, and depends on the tastes.

@buzzshock Thank you!

@saucygames Thank you, Im glad you enjoyed it.

@aevek Thank you so much, I will try to learn more details about making a shooter and add to this game hopefully.

@martyxgames Thank you very much!

@pavel-kouril Thank you! Oh I guess esc button ability was one of the last things I added to the game, probably just wanted to be done with it not to have player stuck in the game.

@irishbruse Thank you so much!

@hadesfury Thank you!

@captain-laserstorm Thank you, HL always any time :0)

@jupiter-hadley Thanks Jupi, I'm glad you took your time to play it.

@axoona Thank you so much, hope to improve my music skills :D

@tim-eriksen Thank you very much!

@joshburleson Thank you so much!

@joshyoshkenoshi Thank you! Yes it makes more sense to hide the spawn points ratherthan having them appear out of the blue :0)

@zachary-shah Thank you :D

@fillefilip8 Thank you very much, the ant sound was me actually :alien:

Not a bad start to a FPS style game. I dig the setting too. Its like a less maliciously evil set of bugs from Starship troopers.

I think my only major feedback is that it would be nice to have some projectiles come out of your gun. It helps feel like you're having some impact when you shoot at the bugs. It also helps to show if you're scoring a hit or not.

Otherwise I feel like you've got a solid foundation if you wanted to create a game where you defend installations all over mars from a variety of mutant alien insect. Nice work.
