LD39 — Running out of Power

Escapade ! by Togimaro 2017-08-11T11:36:58Z

I can't believe that this game was made in 72 hours! There is so many nice mechanics in this game, especially the random room generation. The challenge is very good! I probably tried 15 times (approximately 25 minutes) until finish it! I only wish that the end screen was your time.

Aside this, my mains complaints are about the needles that are hard to spot and the game over screen that shows too early and sometimes isn't easy to notice the reason of my death.

The graphics and music are amazing! Overall: Very good game!

The Nuclear Age by foxor 2017-08-06T13:05:05Z

Very nice puzzle, although I'm stuck at level 5. I also didn't like the text font.

I totally agree with @tmpxyz.

Defend Home: Mars by sgt3v 2017-08-01T01:41:50Z

Satisfactory FPS. Very good for first compo entry. There is a problem with the mouse goes out of screen who annoyed me a lot. The "Quit" option didn't worked on WebGL. LOL

Spacy adventure by egordorichev 2017-08-19T20:27:38Z

One of best games in this Ludum Dare! The gameplay is very well done and very balanced. The graphics and music are very good!

My main complain is the "lines" in background that makes enemies bullets hard to indentify.

Sometimes a bug happens: At least three times the enemies stopped spawning in the beginning until the first boss.

High Score: 355

Ludum Dare Simulator - Click your way to the top of Ludum Dare leaderboard! by Nufflee 2017-08-05T23:30:20Z

The game crashes at the end.

Fuse Cell by christina-antoinette-neofotistou 2017-08-08T12:00:48Z

I believe that your idea was awesome! I confess that I didn't understand the energy bar at first try, but when I played again, this become clear. The mega bomb was even harder to notice.

The sound and the graphics are simply amazing!

The main game problem is the stage duration. The game is too short and didn't save the score. In fact, the player don't have the enough time to look at they score when the boss is destroyed. The game is also too easy. Since I'm a fan of shmups (in fact, my entry for this Ludum Dare is a shmup) I beat the game at second try.

A simply high score message and an infinite gameplay (restarting the stage, but leaving the lives and score) would make the experience much better.

Nightclub and Stuff by RicardoBusta 2017-08-06T01:19:34Z

Nice graphics! I don't know what to do after giving the beer. Also, when the game restarts, the music plays over the old one.

Voodoo Lockdown by Antti Haavikko 2017-08-12T13:51:04Z

Very innovative idea, but was a very low replayability and nothing with the theme. I beat the game in around 15 minutes (5 for last puzzle) and have no reasons to play again.

The minimalist graphics are awesome, but the music was a little repetitive. The player was too many lives. I guess than 2 or 3 per room is enough.

Charge! by dragonxvi 2017-08-12T17:32:52Z

I can't believe that you made a good roguelike in 48 hours! The game was challenging, but a little too easy after I understand the basics. The graphics are very nice, with effective animations, but some became a little unrecognizable, named as Gizoid.

"Oh and don’t pick up equipment that’s a downgrade because it’ll immediately destroy your current equipment because I was too lazy to implement dropping :p", this kills me after almost 30 minutes of play... Just a block for weaker equipments will be enough!

Awesome entry for compo and one of bests of this Ludum Dare!

And I guess that I found a bug:

Charge bug.png

EDIT: Oh! Now I realized that more players found out this glitch.

Charge by ohmaigawd 2017-08-05T21:34:21Z

One of best games of this Ludum Dare! My High Score was 190.

God Has A Torch by SymphonicPink 2017-07-31T23:49:27Z

Too simple game. Powerups are unnecessary and the game is easy even in hard difficult. However, the mood is very good.

Ted Crashed! by Sebastian-M 2017-08-06T18:10:46Z

The controls really weren't intuitive, but your mini-tutorial in this page saves me.

The mechanics were very nice. The music and graphics fills very well and the hexagon generation and animation was impressive for a game made in 72 hours. The quit option won't works for WebGL

I found three major problems:

1. Too random game that can be very easy or very hard, as you said. 2. Sometimes the game lags, I guess that especially when I zoom out and when were many hexagons. 3. Sometimes some points won't connect, like @aaforcebox explained. Here a screen:

Connection problem.png

Your game was amazing. Even the title screen was awesome! Five stars in every aspect (except humor). My highest time remaining was **3:09**:

309.png

This was the only game who I played until now that I want a bigger duration. I will love to play a 15 minutes version who the spaceship requires 5000 power and saves the high score. If you wish me to take a look in the code for helping you optimizing the game, reply this message.

Ted Crashed! by Sebastian-M 2017-08-08T23:29:19Z

I tried to open your source in two computers without success. There several broken references in scripts.

@christina-antoinette-neofotistou said "Is there maybe something in your code that eats up memory". I don't think so, since if this is the case, the WebGL version asks to increase memory heap.

Icarus Launch by ditzel 2017-07-31T23:39:32Z

This idea was awesome! The gameplay is a little annoying, but changing it destroys the game magic, like Flappy Bird.

However, the chance of barrel/fuel pit to appears MUST became lower after the heigh increases. After I mastered the trick, I went from 37XX to 14707 in a single game.

Marvin's Message by ryluu 2017-08-05T23:08:35Z

Good game, but will be very better if you have less "follow forward" parts and something that encourage to play again, like a time counter.

Cosmo Beat by Super Shark 2017-08-20T11:27:25Z

Neat idea. Very good graphics and music! The cutscenes are nice.

My main problem it that this game was too easy for me. I beat the first stage at third try, the second on second try and third on first try and I had no more reasons to play =C . The last stage was a little confusing for me.

Gemheart Hunter by Taffaz 2017-08-01T00:14:16Z

The concept is awesome, but there some problems on gameplay that obfuscated it. You can get max values really fast and is really hard to move while on max speed. A speed down toggle key may make the game very better! My record was 7 . Other problem is that the game screen is bigger than my display.

Lifeforce Deathrun by GanbareGamesKyle 2017-08-02T01:09:02Z

This game mess with my brain! Nice job, especially the graphics! One of the best games (if isn't the best) that I had played on Ludum Dare so far. My best score has 67.

Space Power Defender by EdwinGameDev 2017-08-05T17:53:07Z

Too easy! I got 800 points at lane 28 and QUITs the game, because I feel too bored. Otherside (and aside the shooting annoying sound effect) this would be a good game. The graphics are nice!

Runnerbot LD39Entry by Pixel Game Wizard 2017-08-06T01:50:45Z

If you raise the difficult, the game would be very good. At my third try I hit 50000, at 2400 distance with 13 batteries and gave up playing because I was too bored.

About balancing, I suggest you to divide by four or five the chance of batteries appears.

AI Overlord Runaway by Agecaf 2017-08-19T20:28:19Z

Very nice game! In some aspects (like the energy bar) your game reminds me my Shoot 'em up entry for this Ludum Dare.

The weapon system was very interesting although I don't understand it the first time that I played. I may be wrong, but I guess that some powers are a little unbalanced. I beat Lunatic on second try (after played a little the Hard mode) only using the stop time power. I tried again only with Phantom Move and I only lose two lives. On other hand, I couldn't find a use to Fast Movement.

The life system make a little sense to me, since as far as I understand, exchange your power per energy was very more effective than per lifes.

The "Back to Main Menu" button needs a confirm dialog! I constantly mistake it with "unpause" button. I probably lost at least three games this way. I also get annoyed to do an F5 for reseting the game.

The graphics and music are good, but I missed the Sound Effects.

Hungry Harry's Climb by PBG 2017-08-12T15:44:27Z

Game very well made with an awesome gameplay and challenge! And, after I complete the stage 3, the game continues to go harder! I can't believe that this great random stage generator was made on Compo. The graphics are very nice too! The sound effects are great and almost solve the lack of music!

One of bests of this Ludum Dare!

I discovered a bug:

Energy Raid by -FL- 2017-08-06T12:32:16Z

@nikrt What you didn't liked in UI? The numbers are too big, the colors don't combine with the game or the texts are too inconsistent?

@sgt3v The purpose was to be hard. You can use special weapons to destroy some enemies quick, so you avoid for these enemies have time to shoot many bullets.

@irishbruse Could you explain this a bit more, please?

@foxor Did you realized that when shooting you move slower?

Energy Raid by -FL- 2017-08-08T01:27:02Z

@hs-dave I don't put a sound effect for shooting because I fear that the game became too noisy, like charging buster in Megaman games. But maybe you are right and I need to try, even if I put a sound effect with small volume. I wish more feedback about this.

@huvaakoodia Man, if it was a Steam review, I would vote as funny XD

The player has a laser very similar to the enemy one. These weapons aren't too powerful as a game design decision, but they are still strong, especially when used continuously. Some weapons are very useful against certain enemies and the boss.

The energy system that make you lose all lifes, again is a design decision to make sure that the player thinks cautiously about special weapon, but you have an interesting point.

The recharge stations benefit players who stand a good time in the same spot, that is a difficult task in shmups.

Energy Raid by -FL- 2017-08-22T12:14:04Z

@ristoretto

1. The energy was a bar (blue bar on right). Do you mean lives?

2. There indication as visual and sound effect, but the feedback is small to won't pollute the game, like many shooters do.

3. Very good suggestion! But the melee attack is a little strange in the context.

4. Yep. I don't had the time to pay attention in font details...

Glitterwing VS Apocalipsaur by DDSFloko 2017-08-20T11:25:20Z

Your game idea was very good! It's nice to see some Android game here! Sometimes, the plugs goes a little strange way. The graphics are very good and the music is even better!

This game was potential to be a very interesting arcade game (get the better high score with a gameplay that will became a little faster after each monster), but you finish the game after two monsters. I easily beat the game after I fully understand the mechanics. Clearly, is the biggest flaw of this game.

I also wish moves/buttons/icons that makes more sense in the context. During a brief time, I guessed that the shield blocks enemies moves. The coffee icon seens like out of place. Also, you forget to change the "Nome do Jogo" at Game Over/End screen.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Deeper & Deeper: Attorneys at Law by NvrSkipGameDay 2021-05-04T13:46:30Z

Great game, especially the characters designs/graphics and dialogs! I only missed sound effects.

I had a small issue playing on FullScreen on Google Chrome. The mouse disappears near screen right borders, something that make me miss an object when inspecting the scenery.

The Quantum Menace by freamdev 2021-05-03T17:47:14Z

The graphics look funny! I like it! There is a good weapon variety, two modes and one witch three difficult settings: Good job!

First, I try to take down the turrets, so they can help me. I generally take 1-2 spots and pick powerups on these areas. This strategy won't work well, so I circumvent the stage shooting at cats after I take the turrets. More boring, but works.

My best scores: - Beginner: 78.5 (boss defeated) - Advanced: 24 (probably I was unlucky) - Expert: X (small time to jot the score, I guess that is bigger than 100, but aren't sure) - Endless: 77.5

I suggest you to search for a sci-fi font for this game and for better gameplay feedbacks. About the feedbacks: the turret taking hit and turret destroyed have a similiar VFX, so sometimes I got confused. Okay, there is the HP bar, but is a little hard to see the bar in middle of the bright color action/at distance.

Abyssal Lab by frankiesmileshow 2021-05-03T14:25:24Z

Awesome compo entry! I conquered the entire map. The spooky boss was awesome!

Suggestions: - I don't know what each building do. This confuses me a lot in the beginning. Descripts would help me a lot - When I click to "salvage" the building, frenquently I click and salvage the wrong contruction. This is very annonying! Some highlight or just the name of selected building should help. - Something like "Mission complete" when I defeat major/all enemies. - The turrets sometimes missed they target. More highlights/description for the player understand better the shooting area should be nice.

One time, I clicked on a building right after it was destroyed and the game throws an error and closes (I'm playing the standalone version).

20,000 Shots Under the Seas by -FL- 2021-04-29T17:01:27Z

@roboolet Thanks for the report. Try to refresh the page. This bug happens sometimes to me, I can't understand it yet.

The game always resend your bigger score to online leaderboard, so you high score isn't lost.

Someone defeated the stage 2 boss. Great!

20,000 Shots Under the Seas by -FL- 2021-04-30T02:01:15Z

I (apparently) fixed the online leaderboard. Since the local scores wasn't lost, everyone who was played can just open the game and your highscore will be sent.

@codeforjoycaro: Funny fact: the bullet sound was one of last things that I done. I was apprehensive about it being annoying. I glad that sound worked!

@pat-cleaver: I'm trying to make this game enough easy for everyone complete the first stage, I guess that still was harder than I wished.

@amar-ravi Great suggestions!

Yes! The boss pattern was different! The boss was three patterns:

1. First boss 2. Other bosses 3. Other bosses when HP was under 40%

The original goal was to have only the last two, but was too hard, so I made three. I made this version quick, since are parameters adjusts.

1. There is a particle effect, but I guess it was too small. I gonna make it bigger. 2. The thunder powerup was screenshake. About the others powerups, I was apprehensive to put it on a submarine game (about shaking the ocean), but I guess that I have to put these effects on more powerups. 3. Any suggestions? I put a rule for player dying: Two hits under 12 seconds (excluding collisions), loosely inspired on Sonic rings mechanics. I never seen this mechanic on shooters.

20,000 Shots Under the Seas by -FL- 2021-05-04T12:44:12Z

@rolle Any suggestions? I can't add movement drag since shmups need precision.

@nice-gear-games I agree about the background. I'm trying to make sure about the players noticing the new stage making background very different, but exaggerated a bit.

@okaylobster Yes! Sonic is on the credits.

20,000 Shots Under the Seas by -FL- 2021-05-12T18:58:08Z

@itooh Nice catch about the weapons! I didn't notice that multiweapon games generally have an easy access menu (like Fortnite or Metroid Prime), can change the weapon on pause menu (like Megaman X) or won't allow weapon change (like some Metroid games).

Collectibles are for raising score. Probably an VFX at score text should helps. And there are weapon collectibles too, triggered by every 30 points.

Deep Blue by Jiri Hysek 2021-04-29T15:43:45Z

Beautiful game! I wish that the game have more gameplay on "very darkness" lighting.

Rock Shark Diamonds by Amar Ravi 2021-04-29T15:37:47Z

Nice puzzle! Sadly, a bit short.

I like how you introduced the game mechanics, but you forgot to put in game than "Swimming uses more oxygen than sinking". After dying some times, I need to read the instructions.

The pixel art is nice, but you use a inconsistent pixel size (the pixel size in sea is bigger than characters).

Deeper-Geddon by heidelbert 2021-05-03T16:20:11Z

Great game! I completed four times! My best time was 4:10.

I suggest you making water/ore mineral more different. Rotate is a little tedious, so I also suggest to conveyer detect automatic position.

I found a bug: On title screen you can zoom in/out and move the asteroid with WASD keys.

Post Ghost by Luizamuller 2021-04-29T15:42:42Z

Nice game! I like the music and graphics, especially the UI. The controls are a bit tricky. I suggest you to put the score in HUD.

My high score was 1404.

The Deepest Dungeon by Susumu Asaga 2021-04-28T14:44:38Z

Nice game! The music on ending surprises me!

Into the Deep Web by Jon Topielski 2021-04-29T15:40:08Z

I liked a lot your game mechanics and general idea!

I wish there was more content, maybe a hard boss, since I beat the game without losing. The gameplay is so good that I completed the game a second time.

Singularity Dive by JmO14 2021-05-03T14:23:25Z

Good one! The music fit very well! My score: 8500

Like @poppy-entertainment mentioned, Is kinda hard to understand where the asteroid are going because of perspective view.

The "intro" (ship starting the dive) is nice, but too big and isn't skippable.

OPEN SEA DEEP SPEAR FISHING DELUXE by WhyNot 2021-04-29T15:41:12Z

Nice graphics and mechanics! I played until the oxygen bar is filled (expect for a very small risk). A better control and a crosshair should helps me.

Mouse controls won't work well. Fortunately, you put gamepad support. Even with the joystick, controls could have been polished a bit more, a crosshair should helps. I spend a good time for catching the firsts fishes.

I suggest a high score for fish size.

Submarine Bean by Icoso 2021-04-29T15:38:31Z

Simple, but nice game. Especially the audio and graphics! Like @mind0o said, this should be a great speedrunner game if you put a timer.

Besides last level, I only died once.

Crashdown by iellswo 2021-04-29T15:45:52Z

Great game! I like how the sound evolves when you go deeper. But is too short. I want to play more.

I also got stuck on a square platform.

I suggest you to trigger the buster shoot when player is also holding the button, and maybe dash triggering with mouse right click.
