There is a serious bug, if I press E the game closes. But took some time to navigate the world, pretty awesome graphics and style! And the song is nice too.

bombjack 2017-08-01 19:25

I relly like the mood of the game. Unfortunately I keep wandering and no resource is produced

winniehell 2017-08-01 21:53

I really enjoyed the game, well done – especially in that amount of time. :-)

Also thank you for opting out of the graphics category!

ijona 2017-08-01 23:27

E didn't work for me either. However, I was able to check out graphics (which is great) and the way "the for of war" works. It's a really cool idea! Just moving across the landscape is quite pleasant in this game.

afroant 2017-08-02 01:37

Loved the graphics! Hexes make me all warm and fuzzy inside. The game was pretty enjoyable for what it is. Surprising that it's your first entry. Good job!

mactinite 2017-08-02 01:44

The game worked pretty well for me, no crashes or anything. I really like the visuals for the map, but I wish the tiles would appear when I further away, it would have saved me from placing that wire in the wrong spot! lol Nice work!

foxbuchele 2017-08-02 01:52

I liked it! General aesthetic was great and the game was challenging and fun. I liked linking power nodes to the ship using the minimum amount of wires as a general mechanic.

Some notes:

- Consider labeling resource nodes like the power nodes are - I didn't understand what they were until several minutes in the game. - Having the 'you win!' screen flash up no matter where you are in the world when the ship is filled is a little jarring. I was racing to get back to the ship before the timer when I ended up filling up the ship and immediately won. Cut all the tension out of running back.

softsound 2017-08-02 02:51

I thought it was a cute game, it took me too long to figure out the first round but I finished the second pretty fast. I like the graphics and laid back music. I'd play it again if it were updated later.

carsen-d 2017-08-02 03:21

Cool concept, I really like the map structure with all the hexagons, reminds me of a board game or something! The one problem I had though was that the game started getting pretty laggy as I connected more power crystals and uncovered more of the map. Could just be my potato computer though. Otherwise, I liked it!

turncoda 2017-08-02 03:29

Thank you for making a game! I loved the music, it's a very nice change of pace to hear something acoustic for a jam game.

From reading your directions, I could see you put a lot of thought into the rules of the game, but I was pretty confused trying to understand what I was supposed to do, and I never really felt like I was playing deliberately. For example, I pretty much ignored the numbers and resource types and ended up just walking around pressing E on everything. The game doesn't communicate to me what I can and cannot interact with, so I just try pressing E on everything. I would have appreciated if the game itself made it clear what I was looking for, why I need it, and how I can get it.

pjnovas 2017-08-02 03:31

nice game!, it took me some time to figure it out but I made it! :D Nice entry, cool graphics, music goes perfect, maybe a little introduction in-game would make it more easy to understand. Also more levels!.

cnoble 2017-08-02 03:31

That was a lot of fun! I didn't know what I was doing the first game, just wandering around picking up resources and jamming to the music, but the more I played, the more sense it made until the third game when I repaired the ship in a minute and a half. Great little game with tons of personality! Way to go, keep up the great work! :)

reax 2017-08-02 03:53

Fun game with very interesting idea. Good music. I wish there was more game play but you really managed to produce a lot in this short time frame. I think you could extend this game!

porkeh 2017-08-02 04:11

Nice little idea. I enjoyed the musics and graphics. It took me a while to figure out what I needed to do and it wasn't obvious at first what was ore and what wasn't. A solid little game nonetheless.

alien 2017-08-02 05:13

An amazing game! Enjoyed every bit of it.Great Job!

nokusu 2017-08-02 09:46

Really good, especially for a first gamejam :o

**What's good :** - The concept itself is really good, i like how this kinda mixes strategy with direct control over your character - The music is good and fits the mood really well, even though you're on a time it helps not to get stressed out ^^ - The mood really has something, can't really say why but it clicks :)

**What's bad :** - More of a nitpick but even though the assets all look great and well modeled, the ship doesn't seem to fit with the rest (different style) but as i said that's a small detail

- Kind of confusing at first, a bit of tutorial text about the resources, and how wires work could help solve this

Possible glitch i found with the **WebGL** version : clicking the play again button didn't seem to work

That's about it, really cool game that feels polished, good job ! :)

kunonooni 2017-08-03 00:51

First congrats on finishing your first LD! This was a really interesting game. How big is the map? I moved in one direction for what seemed like an eternity and there was no end in sight! Not going to mention what other already have except to say I really loved the music. I had fun playing this and hope you decide to work on it more after the judging is all done.

deanard 2017-08-03 03:54

This games sound track is wonderful, suits the tone very well. The game itself is also pretty fun, the RNG for terrain generation might need some work as my first round i spent 3 mins just to find enough components to wire to a 2nd crystal. Overall a very solid game for your first game Jam

jsmcag 2017-08-03 12:13

Really good, I really like it! The soundtrack is very good, and the graphics are also really nice.

The use of an hex grid with direct control over your character is an interesting choice, and it works really well! Resource gathering and placing wires works really well, seeing as all actions are only perforced with one button. One little nitpick: sometimes, when placing a wire adjacent to two other wires, the former would connect to the wire farthest from the ship, making the energy travel unnecessarily long. It doesn't really matter, but if a player likes to min-max, this might be annoying.

Overall, very good! Great job!

iovorobiev 2017-08-03 13:31

I love everything in this game: art, sound, main character :) It was not very clear how to play first, but when I got it it became super interesting!

aaforcebox 2017-08-03 13:40

Hey, great job! Music and graphics are awesome, as many said here. One quick bug, I had a crossroad of wires, like an Y, and the wires didn't connect in the center and only one connected to the ship, so I wasted a connection there. Anyway, solid game!

nalia1991 2017-08-03 23:49

Pretty good game, and considering it was your first LD, that was amazing.

I loved the music a lot. The concept was simple but quite engaging and fun (I did play two games, just to see your random world generator). The game was a bit laggy though.

But still I though it was a vare solid entry! Hope you enjoyed your Ludum Dare: it was nicely done!

kostya 2017-08-04 05:50

Lovely music and cool graphics!

autumnotopia 2017-08-04 07:04

It took me a bit to figure out what to do, but rereading the 'rules' after exploring for a bit helped me figure it out. The tiles popping in felt really nice, and I feel like it was just difficult enough to be interesting

huvaakoodia 2017-08-04 13:50

A pleasant (partly due to the lovely music) experience. Exploring the land, connecting energy crystals, it's all well and good. Some hostile forces, like animal life or toxic areas, on the planet would have improved the discovery portion for me. Currently no carefulness is needed when moving around.

The theme doesn't quite fit here either, you are running out of time and gathering power, not losing it. That's a minor thing though. The theme is there to get people started on a project, not to *ruin it!*

It is very good for a first timer. The *Thanks to* section is very sweet indeed.

teammonumental 2017-08-04 20:44

Really cool idea for a game! I didn't quite notice the timer at first though. It was quite enjoyable to play and very straightforward. I'm not sure if it was just a coincidence but the happy music(with the sax) started playing just as I was reaching full energy on my ship, which made winning feel even better. Solid entry!

davideperozzi 2017-08-05 19:39

Nice idea! The soundtrack fits perfectly in this game. Really enjoyed it. Greate game! :)

runuchok 2017-08-06 07:08

Awesome game! Liked it really much! Sweet sax on background))

fl 2017-08-06 18:10

The controls really weren't intuitive, but your mini-tutorial in this page saves me.

The mechanics were very nice. The music and graphics fills very well and the hexagon generation and animation was impressive for a game made in 72 hours. The quit option won't works for WebGL

I found three major problems:

1. Too random game that can be very easy or very hard, as you said. 2. Sometimes the game lags, I guess that especially when I zoom out and when were many hexagons. 3. Sometimes some points won't connect, like @aaforcebox explained. Here a screen:

Connection problem.png

Your game was amazing. Even the title screen was awesome! Five stars in every aspect (except humor). My highest time remaining was **3:09**:

309.png

This was the only game who I played until now that I want a bigger duration. I will love to play a 15 minutes version who the spaceship requires 5000 power and saves the high score. If you wish me to take a look in the code for helping you optimizing the game, reply this message.

christina-antoinette-neofotistou 2017-08-06 22:20

This was beautiful!! How beautiful were those tiles, wow. The way you implemented fog of war with appearing hex tiles was phenomenal! As was the music I also loved how free I was to build energy nodes.

Only tiny tiny complaint, when I played for more than 10 minutes, it started to lag. Is there maybe something in your code that eats up memory?

All in all, lovely, lovely game, and a phenomenal first LD entry

sebastian-m 2017-08-07 02:09

Hey! I want to thank everybody for the nice comments, constructive criticism and inform me of some problems. Regarding what @fl and @christina-antoinette-neofotistou said. The source code for the game is there and I'm sure a lot of things can be optimized. I use a hash table (C#'s Dictionary) to store the information of each node. I'm not sure if this information is deleted when the scene is reloaded or the information remains, which may cause the lag when you play for a long time. I give you full permission to check the code.

mahalis 2017-08-07 04:18

This is superb, especially for a first entry. The environment tiles look really good, the exploration feels varied enough to be interesting, and the collect-stuff-and-build-a-power-network strategy aspect is solid and engaging. Enjoyed the music too. Great work!

frankiesmileshow 2017-08-07 04:19

Great game! Polished, cute and fun. All that this would need is little tooltips somewhere telling you the current available action at your hex. That would probably be enough that the game would barely need any explanation text to read before playing, it would make it very self-explanatory! Also, some better visual indicator of the reduced efficiency of longer connections to your ship would help too, though I'm not sure what this might look like.

mestrerothld 2017-08-07 14:05

Hi. Thanks for your comment on my Nex Machinan game. I came here to see your game and really really liked it. I have a lot to talk about it.

- This is a 5 star game. Usually only once in a LD I see a game that I believe to have potential to become a product. Not a blockbuster, obviously, but a little and enjoyable game. In the LD39, it is yours. With more mechanics and depth, the procedural generation takes care of the rest.

- UI: The buttons "play" and "play again" seem to have bad positioned colliders or something wrong with their logic. When I click over them, nothing happens. I needed to move the mouse away to use it.

Also, the ingame pop up "you received X materials" in the upper part of the screen had some of it out of the screen.

I played the web version.

- UX: I noticed a lot of people (and I agreed with them at first) saying "e didn't work", because we all think that you could havest power crystals. Your game have unusual mechanics, so it NEEDS directions/ingame instructions. I feel like your score will be harmed by this, because, lets be honest, we will only read the written instructions here if we are really interested in the game.

- Music: Perfect, fits together and adds to the atmosphere. Sound: Ok. A little too arcade-y imo. Art: Awesome. I love low poly. I missed having shadows, at least in the lovely main char, but no big deal.

- Gameplay: Amazing. The spawn transition for the new hexagons add a lot to the sense of discovery, which plays a huge part in why I liked this game so much.

I would love to be able to get more time in the countdown in some way, but that's on you.

- Overall: Top concept, near perfect implementation. Congratulations for such a nice game in so little time. And for recognizing the efforts of the people around you. This recognition might mean a lot to them.

peachtreeoath 2017-08-08 02:30

Great game where you really had to pay attention to optimizing logistics. Like others said, the simple hexagon discovery animation just felt amazing compared to a basic fog of war, I was really excited to see what was around each corner. The environments have a clean look to it so the overall feel was excellent. Personally, the game was perfectly balanced cuz I won with 7 seconds left lol

fl 2017-08-08 23:29

I tried to open your source in two computers without success. There several broken references in scripts.

@christina-antoinette-neofotistou said "Is there maybe something in your code that eats up memory". I don't think so, since if this is the case, the WebGL version asks to increase memory heap.

cttfow 2017-08-09 06:44

I had a good time playing this one, the music as well the as general atmosphere was very nice and the gameplay worked well. It doesn't exactly fit the theme, but as a game itself it's really decent!

mintarcade 2017-08-13 07:49

Very simple and innovative game. Thank you for making it.

teddydd 2017-08-15 09:24

Very nice game! Hex reminds me of board games. Mechanics is nice - it's easy to pick up. Game is pretty simple, it's nice since you can chill out while playing but maybe some kind of enemy or environmental danger would be nice?

devorc 2017-08-15 21:14

Nice game! It took me a minute to learn the strategy but then it clicked and I finished the game with 2:30 left!! Nice job!

strega 2017-08-20 09:03

Neat game! I liked the hex grid. It was fun trying to figure out optimal wiring strategies to link everything together.
