187 Nameless! Excellent! Fun game... had some interesting mechanics that one could learn and be better at. Well done!

Really good enemy variety, great bosses as well, very fun game.

A lot of content for such a short development time. Good job!

codeforjoycaro 2021-04-29 16:10

I liked the sound design, especially the shoot sound.

pat-cleaver 2021-04-29 16:14

nice! If only I wasn't so terrible at bullet hell games... Loved the various ennemy behaviors, really changed things up and forced me to move in ways I wouldn't otherwise have. Great work!

roboolet 2021-04-29 16:27

Very fun entry, quite a bit of content for such a short time. Stage 2 boss was a bit nutty for being the stage 2 boss.

Kind of a bummer the scoreboard didn't work for me Screenshot_1.jpg

@roboolet Thanks for the report. Try to refresh the page. This bug happens sometimes to me, I can't understand it yet.

The game always resend your bigger score to online leaderboard, so you high score isn't lost.

Someone defeated the stage 2 boss. Great!

An enjoyable bullet hell! I think it goes on to show how its a tried and tested formula for fun. There is a good amount of variety in the secondary weapons and the types of enemies. I reached the second mission and died at the boss, it looked similar to the first boss but I think the attack pattern was different? Anyway good work on nailing the core experience of a bullet hell!

Some suggestions for improvement - Add some feedback when an enemy ship is struck, right now the health bar goes down but a more visceral effect like the ship shaking or some particle effects would communicate the impact more - Camera shakes to accompany some of the power ups. This is again a game juice element which would elevate the experience - In terms of design, I think it'd be worth exploring ways to differentiate the game with some unique mechanics/ systems. To elevate it from a base bullet hell to something more!

I (apparently) fixed the online leaderboard. Since the local scores wasn't lost, everyone who was played can just open the game and your highscore will be sent.

@codeforjoycaro: Funny fact: the bullet sound was one of last things that I done. I was apprehensive about it being annoying. I glad that sound worked!

@pat-cleaver: I'm trying to make this game enough easy for everyone complete the first stage, I guess that still was harder than I wished.

@amar-ravi Great suggestions!

Yes! The boss pattern was different! The boss was three patterns:

1. First boss 2. Other bosses 3. Other bosses when HP was under 40%

The original goal was to have only the last two, but was too hard, so I made three. I made this version quick, since are parameters adjusts.

1. There is a particle effect, but I guess it was too small. I gonna make it bigger. 2. The thunder powerup was screenshake. About the others powerups, I was apprehensive to put it on a submarine game (about shaking the ocean), but I guess that I have to put these effects on more powerups. 3. Any suggestions? I put a rule for player dying: Two hits under 12 seconds (excluding collisions), loosely inspired on Sonic rings mechanics. I never seen this mechanic on shooters.

Woho, I made it to the leaderboard! :rocket:

Fun classic shootemup with nice variety of both enemies and weapons (for this short time of LD)!

Although it felt more like a shooter in the space but with characters from the sea, perhaps add something to the controls to make it feel more "submariny"? Also hade some problems with lagging for one of the special weapons (the one that makes the screen red), but that might just be my computer.

All in all a a very enjoyable game, congrats on making all of this so well in such a short time!

Gotta love a shmup! Very impressed with the variety of enemies and attack patterns. I never felt any deaths were cheap, since each enemy type had a tell before unleashing a big screen-covering attack. I also appreciated the online scoreboard, not least of which because I actually ranked!! My one nitpick is the second level where the background changes to green, it was quite bright and hard to see some of the pickups. But otherwise great game, had too much fun playing!

okaylobster 2021-05-04 02:28

Cool game, I really enjoy shmups and this was a fun experience. Was that the Sonic water death sound when there was a game over?

fl 2021-05-04 12:44

@rolle Any suggestions? I can't add movement drag since shmups need precision.

@nice-gear-games I agree about the background. I'm trying to make sure about the players noticing the new stage making background very different, but exaggerated a bit.

@okaylobster Yes! Sonic is on the credits.

joonamo 2021-05-04 18:01

The first round was a bit dull, but the second round got pretty interesting! Made it at the top of the leaderboards! :medal:

Pretty solid shooter! Some patterns are really hard to avoid (there's even some I still have no idea how to), but the difficulty is globally okay. It is still not clear to me though what are the collectibles for, and how to properly use all special attack (switching between them in the middle of a fight felt a bit awkward). But it was fun anyway! And while the game lacks some animation, it is still great visually (and has a very good choice of music)!

fl 2021-05-12 18:58

@itooh Nice catch about the weapons! I didn't notice that multiweapon games generally have an easy access menu (like Fortnite or Metroid Prime), can change the weapon on pause menu (like Megaman X) or won't allow weapon change (like some Metroid games).

Collectibles are for raising score. Probably an VFX at score text should helps. And there are weapon collectibles too, triggered by every 30 points.
