LD48 — Deeper and deeper

shaftception by testudor 2021-04-28T13:27:29Z

Great graphics, atmosphere, and music. Really reminds me a lot of the Velocity games on PS4/Vita, which are some of my favorites of all time. I agree with above posters that Shift+S is awkward to hit and could probably fit on one key (Space or just Shift). The WASD parts were a nice touch but it wasn't always clear to me how much time I'd have left to input them, as I'd get a game over before actually hitting the barrier. Generous checkpoints helped paper over those sections though. Great game!

HackDeck by Kerdelos 2021-04-27T11:33:19Z

Very cool idea, I love the idea of hacking your way through a network like this. I also like the idea behind CPU cycles, though it is quite difficult to get through in time. I couldn't make it to the end, so I don't know if there are any other levels past this, but if there are, I think the first level's CPU cycles should be boosted a bit so players can get a handle on how to move around, what the different nodes/cards do and how to counteract them, etc. Right now it feels too punishing to explore. Great visuals and music, awesome job!

Double Bubble by jonathan-turner 2021-04-28T13:58:13Z

Loved the atmospheric music and pixel art, really made it feel like diving into a deep and colorful ocean. The lighting effects on the jellyfish in the deeper waters was a really cool touch, and it was fun to dodge sharks and marlins. I don't know if there was supposed to be an effect when touching Hanna/the whale, but I tried to grab her every chance I could. It was a pretty chill time, and I enjoyed it. Great job!

Run Miner Joe by Rolle 2021-05-05T02:00:43Z

This was a fun little game! I liked the balance of falling speed with the autoscroll, it let me make snap decisions of choosing a harder section (but with more coins/less lava) or wait for a different set of platforms. As others have noted, the screen shaking effect was cool at first but it goes for a bit too long. The programmer art was nice and easily readable. Great job!

CrystalsTD by Blist 2021-04-27T11:16:55Z

Great lighting effects and models, and I love the level transitions. The game ran very smoothly for me, and it was very quick to pick up. I do wish there was more strategy involved, such as the Electric Tower doing more damage to certain enemies, etc. Right now it just feels like every tower and enemy is the same, and since you keep the same towers as you progress it feels repetitive and not very challenging. Very stylish atmosphere, great job!

Jean GADIN on the Prairie by mlho7 2021-05-03T06:02:42Z

That game over screen  Great art style and very funny touches really make this one shine. The slowdown effect was cool and the gameplay, though simple, was quite fun. I do wish there was a high score mode at the end to compare my runs! Great game!

Downslide by pabulum 2021-04-29T00:41:07Z

This was a really fun little arcade game, and though it is clearly inspired by Downwell it also feels significantly different. Once I got the hang of the controls I had a blast, the sound effects and pixel art help a lot to make the game feel very snappy and quick even as you're falling fairly slowly. As others have said, it would be more intuitive to use the down button to slash down, and have the sideways dash double as an attack. But otherwise this was really fun, great job!

Sinking Atlantis by lekiy 2021-04-28T11:50:25Z

I liked the story of a guppy taking revenge and sinking Atlantis! The pixel art looks great, especially the fish as it transitions from swimming to walking. The mechanic of raising and lowering the water level has the potential for some great puzzle designs. I did notice the background glitching out when jumping, and I do wish there was sound effects or music to really add to the mood. But otherwise this was a great game with lots of potential!

Celestial Corruption by godsboss 2021-05-03T05:51:57Z

A really solid base for a shmup, cool story (even if I kept having my pitiful defeats forgotten, grrr!!) and great enemy variation and designs. I did wish there was audio or at least sound effects, and having exploding effects for a shmup is simply a must. But considering this was a Compo, it's amazing what you got done, great job!

The Moore Contingency by Greet 2021-04-30T12:11:04Z

Awesome pixel art and great lighting effects made for a very cool atmosphere, and the idea of diving deep into a computer to physically hack into it was an original take. As others have said, the controls take some getting used to, as well as knowing when and where I can place beacons. I figured out that places with no background textures don't let you place beacons, but the places with the background are quite dark and make it hard to see. Perhaps having a glow effect on your character or something so that it's easier to see where in the dark spaces they are and where they can place beacons. Otherwise this was a very neat game, good job!

No Way Up by gagapete 2021-04-27T08:45:47Z

This was a cool take on the idea of deck-building dungeon crawler. I like the autorunning aspect, it gives the game a sense of urgency. I do wish there was sound effects or music. The sprite work is really nice, especially the animations. A very cool idea that you can definitely build on to have more cards/monsters, maybe even branching paths and the like. Great game!

Deep into the space by Vodzik 2021-04-27T06:45:28Z

The music in this game rocks! I do wish it ran more smoothly (I'm playing the browser version), it stutters quite a bit and there was a huge spike of lag at the start. I do like the premise of pushing your way through an asteroid field without shooting, it gives the game more a feeling of exploration than of pure action. Great job!

Don't Drown by eusekerci 2021-04-30T12:27:33Z

Amazing game that looked a lot simpler than when I actually started playing. The mechanic of balancing risk-reward and deciding when to turn back was already cool, but little did I know that the bubble-path I had been using to go down would disappear! This made subsequent runs really interesting knowing that I'd have to also leave myself enough safe objects to make my way back. The high score was also a great idea that gave me a lot of motivation to keep trying, even though in the end, I couldn't rank. ^_^;; Great game and one of my favorite puzzles of the jam!

Micronaut by healthire 2021-05-04T03:22:25Z

Very cool puzzle gimmick with chill music and satisfying controls. It was immediately understandable thanks to the color-coding of the mazes. I thought it was also a nice touch that you showed where the goal is right up front, that gave me something to work towards and avoided making the game feeling aimless. Great job!

20,000 Shots Under the Seas by -FL- 2021-05-04T02:21:14Z

Gotta love a shmup! Very impressed with the variety of enemies and attack patterns. I never felt any deaths were cheap, since each enemy type had a tell before unleashing a big screen-covering attack. I also appreciated the online scoreboard, not least of which because I actually ranked!! My one nitpick is the second level where the background changes to green, it was quite bright and hard to see some of the pickups. But otherwise great game, had too much fun playing!

Beneath by Rewzu 2021-05-02T09:49:03Z

Played this one for so long I forgot the time, haha. Simple mechanics that just feel so good, you really nailed the jump/explosion physics to feel really satisfying. The Minecraft-style blocks also looked really great and told me at a glance which were probably the high-value ores without thinking. I also quite liked the music, exciting without getting annoying over multiple playthroughs. Amazing job, especially considering it's a Compo entry!

Purgatory by Squeele 2021-04-28T13:51:56Z

This was a cool idea, Tinder for the Devil! I liked the concept and the art, and the moral ambiguity of each character, heh. I also liked that angels and devils lurked among the humans, that was a neat little extra challenge. Really great idea and execution, loved it!

Bob by Jin9310 2021-04-27T10:05:08Z

The pixel art is amazing, and mowing down waves of zombies will never not be fun. The music and sound effects are quite snappy, and I like the atmosphere of the levels. As other posters have noted, the jumps do feel quite floaty, but I feel like that can be easily adjusted once the jam ends. I also wish the grenade can be thrown at more of an arc and had an AOE blast when it lands, when I played my character threw it almost vertically and thus only hit one zombie, making it far less effective than just gunning them down. Overall a really solid game with seriously impressive art!

Aqua Snap! by Roboimuri 2021-04-27T03:37:24Z

Love the atmosphere and premise in this game. Normally I hate games where you're groping in the dark, but this one uses darkness really effectively to make it a game mechanic (using the light/flashbulb to search for fish). I also love that you can see your album at the end. I do wish that it was more apparent from the start that you dive by putting your cursor below the window (I think? this was the only way I could get it to dive since holding the left button just turned the light) so my first few runs were spent only in that starting area. Otherwise this was a great game with a creative take on the theme.

Lost Contact by DrSkort 2021-04-27T11:26:22Z

Loved the atmosphere of the game, especially as you got to the depths. I do think the beginning was a bit too slow, it took quite a few upgrades before I got up to a speed that felt comfortable. Also had some collision issues while picking up treasures, I'd have to kind of awkwardly slide my sub across the ground to pick them up and then slowly build up enough momentum to move away. I liked the pixel art and the lighting effects, they were a really nice touch. Great job!

Crumbling Caves by Andreas Roschal 2021-04-28T11:32:05Z

This is an amazing game and incredible considering it was made in 72 hours! The base idea is very cool, Bandido-style map tiles combined with roguelike elements. I especially love the character designs and animations, the mole character and music (HO!) are just too cute! I do wish there was a sound effect when you hit enemies, that would help make the hits feel like they are connecting. This is a seriously impressive game and I hope you all continue to build on it once the jam ends, it feels like it has the promise of becoming a full-fledged game! Congrats!!

Conspiracy Dive by wizard sino 2021-04-28T12:51:27Z

Enjoyed the strange conspiratorial atmosphere and have to love any game that throws in H*R references. The graphics look very strange (in a good way) and other than the first one, the puzzles were quite good. (The first one isn't bad per se, I just would've liked better hints than just a paper straight up telling you what to do. Then again maybe that's the tutorial?) Quite liked it! Great job!

Deep trouble in the art gallery by Rob Parker 2021-05-02T09:31:49Z

Had to give a high score when I saw that the cat painting is your real cat!!! I enjoyed the humorous puzzles and their "solutions" (lol), the sound effects and graphics are amazing especially considering it's a Compo entry. I liked the surreality of the museum displays, and only wish it were longer (tho completely understand about time limits). Great job!

You Know The Drill by Maksime 2021-04-30T12:17:43Z

The character designs are super cute, especially the idle animation. The opening cutscene with the planets also did a great job setting up the mood of the game. I found the walking to be surprisingly fast, though I got used to it rather quickly. I do wish the energy/oxygen would deplete more slowly and was not tied to jumping, though I do appreciate the risk/reward of digging too deep and not being able to get back in time. I also wish there were sound effects for drilling. But otherwise this was a great game with lots of potential!

Stop Ruining my Desks ! by Whismirk 2021-04-28T12:09:04Z

I had to swat away my real life cat in order to play this game about swatting away your cat, 10/10

(Okay my real review is that it's an incredibly funny concept that had me doubled over the whole time, love everything about it and how eerily lifelike it is, right down to the wobbly way the cats paws reach out for the desk leg. I did encounter a bug at least once where the cat managed to claw its way through the desk leg but I didn't get a game over for it, though on subsequent playthroughs I did. Great concept and loved it way too much.)

The Sounds of the Cavern by LoicLeGrosFrere 2021-04-28T13:00:22Z

Interesting concept with lots of ideas, using sound to navigate through pitch-black caverns and avoiding various obstacles. Unfortunately I would frequently glitch into the ground after rappelling and pressing E to release the rope, so the only way out would be to turn on the light and jump/wiggle my way out. Once I ran out of lighter fluid that wasn't an option anymore and I couldn't progress.

Clockwork Abyss by Alexascher 2021-05-02T09:40:30Z

Beautiful graphics and music, it felt very serene despite the action. The design of the submarine and fish were especially stunning and quite stylish. I found it quite addictive to collect all the upgrades and see how deep I could go. The lighting effects were quite beautiful but unfortunately it also caused the game to lag a bit in my browser. I would have loved to continue playing this in a download version, or perhaps pare down the lighting effects for the browser version.

Georgina and the End of the World by Rainsong 2021-04-27T03:59:32Z

I enjoyed this thoughtful reflection on a caterpillar's life. It felt a bit like an interactive picture book, and I loved the narration and sprite work. The bugs (heh) were unfortunate but seem like stuff that can be ironed out after the jam. I would've loved to see more interactions with the caterpillar/butterfly moving down the tree, right now it just feels a bit like a cursor and not part of the scene, if that makes sense. Very cute idea!

Driller by CookieRA 2021-04-27T11:05:22Z

Simple but addicting little game! Feels like a clicker-type of game in terms of the satisfaction of seeing numbers go up, but with the added strategic element of drilling/dropping down in the right places to get to platforms. Great pixel art, again very simple yet clearly communicative. Excellent job!

Diggleoid by zep 2021-04-27T09:03:35Z

Same here, thanks for making PICO-8! :D I also loved this game, the music in the title screen is very cute and the simple arcade gameplay is really fun.

Deep Forest by Japayne 2021-05-04T13:48:50Z

I was really charmed by the graphics and music, and compelled to keep going and find out what was in that forest that called to Rory! It's a simple risk-reward mechanic used really well, and the gradient of the background helped accentuate the feeling of going deeper and deeper into the forest. I would have liked to see more variation in the forest, for example the trees becoming scarier or more wild or something like that. But otherwise this was a cute game with a neat hook! Great job on finishing the Compo!!

Radication by squimmy 2021-04-27T10:20:44Z

I liked the Bandido-style tile-placement game mechanic with a theme to match Deeper and Deeper! Trying to reach loam while avoiding sand and concrete put an interesting strategic spin on it. There was some audio crackling on my end, and I wish there were more layers beyond the concrete (I got to the bottom but still had turns left). Overall a great idea and execution!

Monster Tower by LungTakumi 2021-04-27T09:42:53Z

Fun little platformer! The controls felt nice and jumping to platforms wasn't an issue. I also liked the added danger of the dragon appearing and blowing fire down, while still having to avoid the obstacles on the platforms. I did think it's a little weird that you auto-die by falling through the bottom of the screen, even though the game itself is scrolling down. Usually in these kinds of games you die by not keeping up with the speed of the screen (eg you die by falling to the bottom if the camera is scrolling up) but because this game is the other way around, it feels like the platforms are coming too slowly and you have to take a lot of leaps of faith. I think this could be tweaked by making the scroll much faster, which would add to the chaos of the obstacles/monsters. Otherwise a very fun and promising game!

Call of the Abyss by Rein 2021-04-27T03:28:53Z

Love the creepy atmosphere of the water (sound effects/music and creepy things flitting just out of range of vision do a great job here) and the premise is immediately understandable. I do wish the body of the sub was fitted with lights, not just the headlights, because often times there'll be rocks nearby that I can't see even after buying the light upgrade. I also wish there was some way to control the hook besides momentum of the sub's movement, perhaps using the mouse? But that might make it complicated, so I'm not sure. Overall an amazing entry and one I enjoyed a lot!

Fire in the hole! by Arttu Halonen 2021-04-29T01:37:58Z

This was a very simple but fun game and I enjoyed it a lot! The lava effects look great and exploding the terrain always felt satisfying. The AI was well-balanced and I really liked the glow effects and sound effects, it really made things pop. I wonder if it'd be possible to make multiplayer, this seems like it'd be a fun game to play against another person! XD Great job!

DEEPER by eboatwright 2021-04-27T09:10:43Z

A very cool twist on Downwell, and impressive to see what you've done in PICO-8! The controls feel great and the sound of the rocket boots plus graphics makes for a stylish minimalist atmosphere. I do wish the item upgrades were a different color so they're more immediately discernable from the rocks, I had trouble recognizing them while blazing past. Otherwise a very cool little game and quite addicting!

Fare Well by alanxoc3 2021-05-03T04:17:45Z

I had a lot of fun playing this! The controls feel great, and the graphics and music are amazing. I thought it was very creative using the short range of the bucket (your safe spot) to force the player to maneuver around the playfield despite the hazards. There are so many little details that just feel so intuitive that would've been easy to overlook, like the slight gravity of coins towards the player. I do wish that there was a victory screen that showed your score rather than immediately reset, that might give players more of a challenge to try and get a higher score. But otherwise this was an amazing game!

Paperload - Deep Bass Edition by frokes 2021-04-28T13:41:01Z

Fun little game, and I loved the pen-and-paper graphics, it looks very unique while still being very clear and obvious what is going on. I was especially impressed with the lighting, especially as you go deeper. I think there may be a problem with the sound though, I see from the title screen that there IS music and sound effects in the Settings menu, but when the game actually starts I can't hear anything. The risk-reward mechanics of choosing to keep digging or decide to turn back and refuel was really cool. Overall a wonderful game! Great job!

you are chained to an egg and are falling down a pit by goblinkingmatt 2021-04-27T09:25:33Z

Super surreal and very strange in all the right ways. I was enjoying the dialogue between the barkeep(?) and ern(?), then I fell into an even deeper pit where a giant goblin(?) face(???) showed up and I cracked a giant egg at the bottom. After that it kind of seemed to drag, you repeat that stage over, I'm not sure if there's something else I'm supposed to be doing or if that's the game. As it was, a very cool if bewildering experience, which I am pretty sure was the goal.

Deeper Blue Sea by betovf 2021-05-04T03:00:26Z

Cool idea for fish-eat-fish game. I would have liked it if you ate smaller fish automatically by just swimming into them rather than using Ctrl, since that made the controls kind of awkward. I'm also personally not a fan of tank controls, and would have preferred just moving in the direction of the arrow key you're pressing. The spin attack was a great idea. I like the claymation-looking 3D models of the fish. Great game!

Pig Dig Deep by HIKO_game 2021-05-13T10:36:51Z

Dream Descend by Benedek Labancz 2021-04-27T08:59:01Z

I love the surreal environments and enemies, and the mechanic of killing sheep(?) to extend your sleep time as you fall further through the dream worlds. I did find the jumps to be a bit finicky and that combined with the level design (in the first area I think you NEED to kill the sheep on the right side in order to extend your timer, but the only way further down is to jump all the way back to the top and then go to the left to fall) made the time limit a bit too punishing. A great premise with very haunting atmosphere!

Sinking Sub by DaSpikeyBoss 2021-04-27T10:44:28Z

This was a really stressful (in a good way!) take on clicker games. I liked all the different plates I had to juggle, all while clicking for fish and maneuvering my sub through the rocks. The 3D models were great and the menu/UI was clear and easy to understand. I don't know if it's a bug, but at one point I hit a rock and my sub got stuck in the "damaged" animation, eg shaking a lot, even after I passed the rock and kept descending. It only happened once so it is probably not a big deal. Also wish there were more varieties of fish, especially as you start getting into the really deep waters, that could be a cool thing to add in future. Great game!

Hello, user. by Totteri 2021-04-29T00:51:37Z

I have to be honest, when I played the game I didn't really get what was going on. It was only after coming here and seeing the comments that other users experienced way different things than I did (something about having to type "I didn't do it"??) encouraged me to replay it with different answers to see what else would come up. I liked the nostalgic C64 aesthetic, and little touches like the computer(?) making typos and fixing them creeped me out a bit. Very interesting ideas.

Birdy adventures of Sherlock Worm by spacecadet 2021-04-29T01:28:47Z

First of all, I absolutely loved that opening cutscene, it had me rolling with laughter! Same for the giant woodpecker game over screen, just loved it. The premise was really funny and creative. I also liked the different wood grain having different speeds. It took me a bit to understand the shuriken was a speed boost, as I thought they were obstacles at first and was avoiding them. The controls were great except for the retry button, it seemed to cause the game to hang up for a while and then threw me into a new game where the woodpecker was already almost on top of me, which killed a bit of the replay value for me. But otherwise this was a really fun and creative game, when I hard refreshed I enjoyed seeing the animation play again. Great job!

10,001 - A space exploration game by tengusheath 2021-04-30T11:38:46Z

The music created a cool mood that put me in the mind for some space travel. I like the idea of encountering and exploring unknown places and using coordinates to map out where you are, this could lead to some cool updates where there is so much stuff that users can share coordinates, kind of like a 2D No Man's Sky. I do wish the starry background was either brighter or more detailed to make it easier to tell if I was moving, sometimes it felt like the only way I knew if I was moving was seeing the coordinates tick up. The shooting felt great, though I wish the gun would cool down a lot faster. Otherwise this is a great game with a lot of promise!

Nice Fall by Nice Gear Games 2021-04-28T11:05:56Z

Thank you everyone for your feedback!

@ssh-randy Yes, you are right about it being impossible to avoid the bats, and I want to adjust this in future. Thank you for pointing it out!

@scruffylooking2121 @itooh @fyslexicduck Thank you so much for your detailed feedback! I am working on making sliders for sound effects so that it's less annoying, and making the chirping sound effect shorter. I think your idea of a second of invincibility is also great, and I really want to implement this. Thanks again!

@tris250 Thank you so much for your feedback! I totally forgot about making a mode for AZERTY/QWERTZ keyboard layouts. That is a good idea of being able to select to use the arrow keys for 1P. Thank you so much for your feedback!

@lifeforce That is a great idea about the depth indicator. I wanted to put it in, but I didn't have time before the jam ended. This is something I want to add once the jam ends.

@squimmy Thank you so much for your feedback as always!! I want to add sound effects for the thorns and for the sound of the bricks breaking, because as you say, it's not immediately clear what is going on in those two instances. Thanks again and be sure to play the updated version when it's released!! ^_^

Nice Fall by Nice Gear Games 2021-04-28T13:47:27Z

@jonathan-turner Thank you so much for your detailed feedback! I really like the idea of adding more obstacles to make the player go back up, and as you said I want to add sliders for the music/sound effects and create a map for where you/opponent are in the course (I didn't have time to implement these, but I want to add them after the jam ends). I was wondering about when you said you couldn't hinder your opponent, did they keep moving after you landed on them? They're supposed to stop and do the dizzy animation (that's what the chirping is) so I think it might be a bug if that didn't happen. Thanks again for playing!!

Nice Fall by Nice Gear Games 2021-05-03T05:34:03Z

Thank you everyone for playing and for your feedback! I really appreciate it. I have slightly updated the game with some of the fixes you have recommended. If you are interested in trying it out, the updated version is here:

https://unityroom.com/games/nicefall

The itch link at the top of this page should still lead to the original LD version of the game.

@totteriludum @jin9310 Thank you for your feedback re: gravity! I am going to try to make the other elements of the game (esp. the bats) less luck-based so that you keep the same speed while falling but hopefully making it less luck-based.

@rewzu That's a good idea about adjusting the game length. Perhaps in a future remake I will make other courses with varying lengths and different obstacles. That seems like it could be fun. Thank you again for the idea!

@pabulum The honk button!! How could I forget!!

@godsboss The AI is DEFINITELY not watching and learning your every move ;D

Deep in mars by DocSystem 2021-04-30T11:16:21Z

This was a cool idea for the theme! I like the pixel art and the click-to-place felt really satisfying, and building an array of nodes was cool. I also like the idea of having to race against the asteroids, building deep enough to avoid them while still managing your resources. I only wish that the asteroids would leave craters, so to say, so that I can see at what depth the next asteroid will hit. (For example, if an asteroid hit on the right side, there'd be a huge crater that strips away the top level or two of dirt. That way I'd know that if another asteroid hits on that side, probably the next couple of layers would also be destroyed.) Love the idea and feels like a promising project to build on!

Seeker Of Riches by Robert Woods 2021-04-27T09:36:13Z

Great first project! The dangerous and threatening atmosphere of the deep sea really came through. I also like the 3D models, they look quite nice. I do wish it was easier to tell if you are moving down, it looked like I wasn't moving at all but my Depth rating was climbing. Same for firing, I couldn't see the shots but I could see my Ammo going down.

Deep Dig Pizza by Brandon Garcia 2021-04-30T12:47:28Z

This was really fun and made me very hungry for pizza! Love the take on Deeper and Deeper to mean a deep dish pizza planet that you drill into to make, er, pizza, haha. It looked very polished and was a creative take on Cook Serve Delicious combined with mining games. I do wish that the controls were a little more snappy, as I'd often swing wildly around and waste valuable time in open areas (such as near the restaurant or in big underground caves). But otherwise this was a fantastic and highly polished game, especially given the constraints of the jam! Amazing job!

Deep Sleep by dikopr0s 2021-04-27T03:43:47Z

I like the Inception-style idea, and as others said, this would have benefitted from more content, or at least more interesting layouts for the dreams, telling a (simple) story of moving through this character's life. Although this was a Compo game, so it's understandable that it's a bit light on content. The opening scene with the alarm clock and the camera tilting down to sleep was very nice, maybe have more flourishes in the room so that we can see a glimpse of the character's "waking" life before seeing them in dream form. All in all a cool idea!

The power of the deep by Tris250 2021-04-28T11:19:32Z

It's a really cool idea of balancing your life and your mental stability using the power-ups. The graphics are also quite nice and the backgrounds look very surreal and combined with the music, has a great atmosphere. I think the jump can be adjusted so that your character falls quicker after reaching the apex, that way it feels more precise and less floaty where you want to go. I also wish the power-ups were more distinct from the background, sometimes I wouldn't see it until it was too late. But otherwise this was a great game and I enjoyed my time with it!

Little Mother by Save Sloth Studios 2021-04-30T11:31:40Z

Grim and beautiful game, love the little touches with the animation like the mother's swaying neck and tail moving at different rhythms. The music was super creepy and atmospheric, and kept the hairs on my arms standing up the whole time, haha. The progression in the background also really sold the story, imo more than even the dialogue with the other NPCs. Very stylish and cool, great job!

Psycho Dive by Artemistake 2021-05-04T02:42:24Z

Very cool idea and I love the art in this! The brain background and attack animations look really cool, and using the dead "bad thoughts" to climb over and delve deeper into your brain is a cool idea. The opening cutscene laying out what is going on had great music, my only qualm is that it is quite soft (I actually didn't realize the first time playing that there was narration because I couldn't hear anything) and I would have loved subtitles at the bottom. I also couldn't figure out the range of the attack, as sometimes it would 1HKO when my attack animation would touch the enemy but the vast majority of times it didn't have an effect. I think either the range is way too tight or the enemy hitbox is too small. Very cool premise for a game that fits the theme well!

Mindmess by Triton 2021-04-27T11:00:14Z

A really quite frightening game indeed. Great pixel art and music/SFX. Jump feels a bit floaty, and having to push E twice in front of the door to get through seems excessive (open+go through should be one action). But otherwise this was an interesting take on a man's journey deeper into madness, very Stephen King. Great job!

Deem by AdamPhoebe 2021-04-27T03:53:14Z

I think it's a neat idea that needs more stuff added. I like the feeling of digging/placing blocks, controls feel really smooth. The set pieces of the violin etc were really nice touches and made exploration worthwhile. I had a hard time seeing my character at first because the screen is so overwhelmingly dark, I think it might be nice to have more contrast between the deep blue background and the black rocks of the cave. Great game!

Go No Farther by Lifeforce 2021-04-28T11:38:33Z

Very cool graphics, made me real nostalgic for my old MAME days, haha. The enemy patterns and variations (black divers that collect coins and red divers that shoot you) made it very exciting despite it being rather simple. I do wish there was sound effects or music, that would've really helped to sell the arcade-y feel. Great job!

Lost Mind by Ali Azeem 2021-04-28T13:05:17Z

Interesting idea with great pixel art and very atmospheric sounds. The footsteps in particular were quite creepy. It did get a bit repetitive having to stop and take the time to eat pills, which imo kind of dragged down the flow.

Tiny Drop by JasonQ 2021-05-04T03:08:13Z

I really liked the theme of this game, especially all the obstacles and challenges a drop of water might face while traveling down a rusty pipe! I especially liked the frogs along the top. The controls felt good, and I liked little touches like that being smaller was more dangerous but you could also travel a lot faster and jump higher. Despite the simple concept there were so many creative ideas that made it really fun. Great job!

Super Deep Olympic Diver by Bruno Bombardi 2021-04-28T13:10:25Z

This game is too fun, from the helicopter scene (!!!) to the mines in an Olympic diving field (!!!!!!) to the dolphins, just everything about this was perfect. I only wish there was a high score at the end so I can see how I ranked up versus other players, this is how much I loved this game. Great job!!

Jewellery Journey by Niall_Chandler 2021-04-27T09:46:54Z

Very cool game, and I'm seriously jealous of what you're able to do in PICO-8! In particular I love the death sound effect, haha, which I... heard a lot while playing this! It reminds me a bit of Flappy Bird but with a far cuter theme and great graphics. I was also really impressed by language options, feels like a ton of thought went into this! Seriously great job!

Colors of the Universe by Itooh 2021-04-27T10:54:35Z

Very cool and surreal concept, with minimalist graphics and a real sense of atmosphere. I do wish the cursor was a big larger, it was hard at first to find where I was and accidentally got sucked into the wrong notes by accident. Had a great time puzzling this one out!

Crystal Mites by Dan Fornace 2021-04-30T13:18:29Z

Love the Gameboy Color aesthetics and character designs, it looks and sounds amazing. Also love the idea of split screen multiplayer, fun to play against another human being! I do wish that there were more interactions between players, since going in I thought you'd be racing through the same course and would be bouncing on each other, when in fact we were playing mostly in isolated sections of the game. Perhaps having a third-color area in the center where you'd have to fight the other player to the end, rather than making it to the end of the other player's cave. The bouncing gimmick was really fun, though it took quite a long time to clear the other player's area due to the one-hit deaths and no checkpoints. I feel like this game could benefit from either a health meter or making the penalty something else, for example being stuck for a few seconds or slowed down, etc. But otherwise this was a really fun game that we enjoyed playing together, great job!

Encephaloexcavation by OffDutyExtractors 2021-05-02T10:09:23Z

Had a lot of fun digging through the dirt (the digging sound effect btw is perfect, very Minecraft/Terraria). The controls were satisfying and the graphics look great, especially the death effects for the monsters and the flashlight. I dropped into the room with the big spider boss and died after getting cornered and running out of bullets, lol. I do wish the regular enemies didn't come flying at you from the darkness, OR, if they do, I wish the horror angle of it was played up a bit more, since right now it just kind of felt like every enemy got a free cheap shot at me. Otherwise I loved this, seems like a great project to really build on post-jam!
