The music and the sfx is cool !
I actually really enjoyed this, it was always exciting getting a new item, and they never seemed useless. My only issue was that using W or or UP to jump felt really unintuitive, but I'm sure if I kept playing I'd get used too it. Also I had an issue with enemy spawning on my runs, most of the level would be empty but then i'd come across a small room or corner with dozens of enemies crammed in and die almost immediately.
Overall I really enjoyed it and actually played more than I thought I would.
Nice work! can't defeat any enemies but that may just me fighting before being ready.
Cool concept and nice graphics and audio but it took forever to mine a few blocks and was hard to move around. If you could mine a larger amount of blocks at once or if the mining went faster I think it would have been better. If you were aiming for a roguelike game, those especially tend to allow you to move through the game at a much faster pace. I had a lot of trouble trying to get through a two block tall opening and there were times when I saw something above me but because I dug a tunnel to get to where I was there wasn't any way to reach it.
Also, a couple of bugs, the first time I booted it up I spawned inside the wall and then every time I tried to respawn it crashed.
"What the heck is *that*?" --Me several times before whatever "that" is eats my face.
Cool variety of enemies and loot. Especially the Adderall, I thought that was hilarious to be found in a random chest in a random cave. Some of the loot, I don't want to say which because possible spoilers, kept me interested in going deeper and retrying.
I think the idea is very cool, and the visuals/music were great. I think leaning fully into the brain theme with the enemies being macrophages or something would be neat. Also it wasn't fully intuitive how to open chests, didn't realize I had to hold down the mouse key.
This was fun! The gameplay was simple but the art and audio design makes up for it. I would have liked to see a way to choose whether or not to pick up a powerup, but it's no great loss not to have it. The particle effects were great, too! Nice work.
@jogy34 I definitely agree with the mining needing to be faster. Thankfully the Adderall helps with that but the initial speed an affect of the Adderall should be increased. The player having trouble fitting is a little annoying. For the crashing, we just reload the scene when you respawn so perhaps it was just taking too long? The program stops responding for a while but I have not encountered it actually closing.
@iceeye we can definitely add space bar to the bindings for jumping.
I won! The final boss didn't seem like much though, I just shot it over and over until it died. It's fun though!
There's an impressive variety of challenging enemies here, and the graphics are cool. I would've liked it if I could just dig a brick instantly instead of having to wait a few seconds, but I guess that prevents players from just running away from enemies.
Mining, meta, enemies, loot, random.... What could be better? Great work! :v:
Music has me, loot has me, you got me here, thanks.
first life, it spawned me into a wall and i was able to glitch around a bit before spontaneously popping into a room with monsters and quickly dying. second life, i didnt realize i could dig, so i thought i was just trapped since it spawned me in a small, enclosed room. third life, i very nearly died of an overdose of adderall and became a 360-degree shooting, instant-mining machination of death. still managed to run out of ammo trying to kill the final boss though lol. Once I realized how to actually play the game (eg: break chests/ammo boxes by mining them), this was a really cool, fun experience. one other small thing is that when you run out of ammo, the audio becomes glitched and is pretty disruptive. that said, really nice, impressive work!
Very interesting. Nice graphics, specially the particles and the lighting, very cool stuff!
The graphics are simply amazing, from enemies to falling pieces of the earth.
@miej After 3 patches supposedly fixing the wall spawning bug I think we are just going to allow it. We have no clue why but there is a 100% chance that on your first spawn it will be in the wall, but never again. For the reloading I never actually thought about that so I will check it out cause I imagine the sound is not very pleasant. The 360-degree shooting is awesome though so it can stay. Thank you for the feedback.
You've got some pretty nice sfx. Great work!
Had a lot of fun digging through the dirt (the digging sound effect btw is perfect, very Minecraft/Terraria). The controls were satisfying and the graphics look great, especially the death effects for the monsters and the flashlight. I dropped into the room with the big spider boss and died after getting cornered and running out of bullets, lol. I do wish the regular enemies didn't come flying at you from the darkness, OR, if they do, I wish the horror angle of it was played up a bit more, since right now it just kind of felt like every enemy got a free cheap shot at me. Otherwise I loved this, seems like a great project to really build on post-jam!
Good graphics, particularly with the particle effects, and the audio did a great job at communicating important things while also sounding good. My only qualms are with two things: the relative lack of invuln frames and the difficulty in getting my health back. Between the variety of enemies, the procedurally generated world, and the wealth of upgrades available, I really wanted to spend time exploring the world, but as hard as I tried, three or four enemy encounters were enough to send me back to the beginning every time. On the other hand, maybe I just need to git gud ;) Overall though, great work!
Cool game! nice procedural cave system! the controls aren't always very responsive (especially jumping), and the game lags and speeds up constantly which makes it difficult to play sometimes. Also, when restarting the game seems stuck for quite a while before it finally restarts But overall a really game though!
Really cool game! I truly love the particle effects, especially when falling down into a new room! The light really adds a lot to the atmosphere and the enemy variety is quite impressive. I would have liked some quality of life improvements such as just pointing in a direction to dig instead of having to click the exact block. Also a little reload indicator could have saved me twice :D Overall an really strong entry!
It’s not often that I see procedural generation in a Jam Game, and when I do, it’s almost never this clean. The digging, fighting, and gathering power-ups is all tied into game play that creates endless emergent situations. The controls are tight, the art is wonderful. The sound effects are perfect to bring your into the world, and the music is catchy and groovin’. I had a great time with this one, even though I never killed the big purple cube. Amazing amount of work for a weekend. Thank you so much for bringing this by my stream. Here's a link to the VOD: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1007852839?t=8h19m43s
Nice, I loved procedurally generated caves despite the fact that I sometimes spawned in the walls. The physics simulated dirt and monster dying effect with glowing physics simulated pieces was great as well. I did find it a bit hard not to die because I rarely found a health restoration item. The objective wasn't really clear either, I did find a key but had no clue in which direction to go to use it. The game has good vibe and even if the music might not be the most fitting for a dark environment I was glad it wasn't the horror type of music as I would probably have few heart attacks when those spiders jumped me.
Keep up the good work!
Great game! Polished looking with attention to detail. And I like procedural and destructible environments. You get killed a little too easily by random monsters jumping on you, I think. The respawn button crashed the game (I'm playing the html5 version in firefox on Linux).
I wasn't able to move in the HTML5 version, so I played the Windows version instead.
The game is pretty fun, I like the Terraria-style exploration and it's satisfying to get random upgrades in chests, it makes me want to keep going and see how powerful I can become. Lighting effects look really nice with the heightmaps, and particle effects on gun shots and enemies feel nice and juicy.
Overall it's a pretty cool entry, so good job!
Pretty good game! I played it 3 times and reached the boss in my last run, but I got locked in the corner and died. Music and sounds are great, the art is good. It would've been nice to see how deep you were, to check your stats, see the HP of the boss and have some kind of score system. Maybe for a future implementation if you continue working on it. overall a very solid Jam game, great job!
