I made it to the end o.o Was a pretty unique experience.
Interesting idea with great pixel art and very atmospheric sounds. The footsteps in particular were quite creepy. It did get a bit repetitive having to stop and take the time to eat pills, which imo kind of dragged down the flow.
good graphic and great sounds. short but nice game.
The excellent art and sound, and the nature of the gameplay, work really well together to set a tense mood. If there's one thing missing, it's complexity in the gameplay. In particular: if those footsteps are coming, there's only one thing to do which is run away, and often it's going so much faster than me that there's nothing I can do to avoid getting hit. So, that aspect of the game feels a little bit out of my control.
Screenshot 2021-04-28 192053.png This game has a really good atmosphere, it definitely was creepy! What could've been awesome is a cool scary jumpscare whenever you lose. The pixel art was good, but in some places there were differences in scaling of the art (I suggest using Unity's Pixel Perfect Camera component next time). The audio effects were on point, I do wish there was a slight heartbeat sound effect that would become more apparent as your fear went higher. Therefore, graphics-wise and sound-wise, the game was pretty epic.
About the gameplay mechanics, they were pretty basic, and I wish there were more elements to the gameplay, to make it a bit more chaotic. What I'm trying to say is - eating pills felt a little too broken. If this were a real life situation, you would probably not die of fear, but of consuming a lot of pills. So maybe, if you take a lot of pills, you would start seeing more hallucinations, or your view gets more messed up. Since this is a jam game, afterall, the mechanics were okay.
The game has a nice implementaion of the theme, it did feel like it was getting just a little more tough as you ventured deep into the haunted forest.
The story was interesting enough to keep me going. Though seeing the ending kind of made me sad, finding out that the main character's friend died in the forest. But the accomplishment of winning payed back, so I guess I'm happy that I found out the end of the story.
Overall this was another cool jam game from you, JudgementCole, you did great with your teammates. Keep it up!
I enjoyed this one, the art was good, i found the audio a bit repetitive, and the mechanics need a little more development (but it looks like something this ambitious would have been quite hard to cram into 3 days of development), but it all combined really well to create a strong atmosphere, and i really liked the interpretation of theme, well done!
Made it to the end and back! https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1021709114?t=00h06m35s
You did get a good atmosphere going but I feel that the gameplay loop was a bit clunky. Moving forward while there is no monster chasing you and while you don't need to eat pills. The pills could maybe give like a satisfying amount of sanity back all at once, right now the slowly trickling sanity didn't feel as good gameplay wise.
I didn't get it at first, but once I did it became quite easy. Interesting game though; I don't think I ever seen anything like it. The audio was superb and set the mood perfectly.
Good stuff :8ball:
You certainly nailed the feeling of being scared in a dark forest. I had a lot of fun trying to balance my fear level, forward progress, and not dying, and was able to clear in my first try with ~79% fear. Fighting fear really felt like a losing battle, which forced me to move forward.
Cool!! Finished the game with 71% fear. Very interesting concept, and as others pointed out, superb audio and mood.
The game creates a good mood, but the fear factor does not translate that well to the player. I think this is mostly to do with the clear visuals of the enemies leaves little to be fearing. I think the sounds and graphics are very nice.
The game also becomes very dark on my scree where the brightness cannot go very high. I know it's supposed to be dark, but I can almost see nothing even in the flashlight.
This game has been brought to you by opioid addiction! Get your fist fulls of pills at half price!
Atmosphere felt more calm than unnerving, mysterious or scary. The things that where there are well executed but nothing outstanding.
You've build up a great atmosphere with the visuals and audio! Maybe the pill mechanic is a bit overused. After taking pills there are new eyes half a second later  Apart from that the game feels actually pretty polished, maybe you can add some elements to a post jam version!
I finished with very low fear, but my character should die from pills overdose :P Nice dark graphic, which together with music creates horror mood. Good job!
I think there's a good base to this. Adding even just a few more elements to the gameplay would improve it quite a bit, but I understand jam deadlines aren't that accommodating. The audio and atmosphere in this is really good and suits the mood realllyl well. Good job
