Wow great job on this one!! I'm very surprised on how much I enjoy your game! The music, the art style, gameplay, enemy patterns... everything is spot on! I love the detail of the little story at the beginning as well. Really, awesome job guys!! Will definitely keep playing for a while.

Wow, another super-underrated game! I loved the intro animation, graphics, music, gameplay, pretty much everything about this game. Rhythym based games are hard to get right, but this one hits some key points.
Only one concern: I saw Barkley talking on the right while I was playing, but was too focused on shooting people to read it. Maybe a tutorial or slower paced wave could give the player some time to read that first, but I understand that's hard to do in a limited amount of time, especially when there is so much attention to detail everywhere else.
Great work!

WOW! I can feel the beat! At first I died right in the beginning few times, but then I started listen to music and that makes game really easier! If you add score count it will make game process even more challenging ^^
Cool game.
As mentioned by PolyWolf, we can't both play and look at the right panel. As we are focused on the bottom of the main (=left) panel, a simple improvment would be to put the energy bar at the bottom of the right panel, closer to the action.
Otherwise, it's very good, except I suck at it :'(

Really nice. I enjoy the difficulty and rhythmic style of the game. Very inspiring intro! Thank you!

I love the mechanic of how in sync you have to be with the beat to hit the enemies, feels great and satisfiying. Excellent game.
The best way to summarize my opinion of the game is that i had an smile on my face from the first to the last moment i have been playing the game. Love how you have to focus on the music and sync with the beat to destroy the drones, it makes the experience super immersive and fun!!
As others said, while playing you never look at the right panel so you miss most of the messages and it's hard to keep track of the remaining energy. It can make difficult to understand how to refill the energy bar, for example. A little tutorial at the beginning of the game would be a great solution for this issue, in my opinion.
Congratulations!

Very good work!! The idea of mixing rythm games and arcade ship games is perfect! Also the synchronization of the music is awesome.
Amazing work. I would love to see this game be turned into a full product! I love rhythm games and I love shmups and this is the best combination I have seen yet. Keep up the good work!

Blown away! I would have loved to see some more enemy variations early on, because I felt the pace picked up too slowly for my later attempts, and I would have loved to see some sort of objective to direct my gameplay, or even a score, but other than that I absolutely can't fault it. This is seriously good work and the audio is amazing as well.
<3 <3 <3 to the team, I had a great time

I think this is the first rhythm shooter I've played, nicely done. I think the only thing this game is really missing is a little bit of variation, if there was more later you may want to move it up.
"Wow, what a beautiful, sunny day" "Perfect for sitting inside with the curtains drawn and playing some games" XD 5 stars for humor!
Great, fun game! I really liked the strategy and focus involved. I didn't find any bugs, and it was a really enjoyable game. Great job!
A rhythm shmup? Whaaat? This is like if you reached into my brain to yank out some of the best memories and mash them together. The rhythms in the third level were both fast and complex and I wasn't quite ready for that combination, but the game had me tapping my foot the entire time. The little polished details were not lost on me. (Things like the reflections on the front of the downbeat ships when you miss and the overall responsiveness of the shots) **Great presentation, great art, and great music.** If this didn't make the top twenty it'd only be because not enough people played it.
Lovely art, catchy music! I love the rhythm/shooter gameplay and the fun, emotive character designs. As mentioned by others, I really couldn't focus on the shooting and the dialogue at the same time; maybe stop incoming enemies while dialogue is up? I was also getting significant lag after the first level, not sure if anyone else has encountered that. But otherwise really enjoyed the game, great work! Also, super excited to play a game by Rocky Hammer; I follow your work on Insta

Absolutely love the music, even after reading the fight mechanics were based of the audio it took me a couple minutes to pickup on. Very Cool fun game but it needs a little more variation.

wowee. Really really good. Stayed up too late playing this game. Beautiful art, wonderful music, with really unique mechanics. I couldn't focus on the banter on the side, but my friend sitting beside me says it's top notch. Really amazing that this game exists, let alone that it was made in 72 hours. Congratulations!
What a fun game!!! I really enjoyed playing and it left me smiling, this is what all games should strive toward. I hope that more people get around to playing this one, I sure would like to see more of this game  Great job guys!

I really liked the pastel look and the music/sounds of this game. Could have been even better with more enemies and weapons. Good work!

Lovely art and music! Like others have said before me, a tutorial would be really useful.
Oh my god the music in this game is incredible. Is there some way that it could be made available separately? Outside of that, I can only parrot the other feedback. Art is great, the mechanics work with the music super well (although I wish that sometimes the shields went down along with the rhythm of the music and not just at even intervals - it would be nice to change the pattern sometimes). Seriously, amazing work.
I concur with others who've posted above and I don't have much to add. Fun little game, I was able to get into the rhythm without too much trouble. Graphics, humor, all the pieces are there. :-) Good job!

Thanks to everyone for their kind words and useful feedback! We've added a short FAQ section to this page to clear up some of the confusion.
@rosypenguin Sorry to hear about the lag on the later stages. I have a few ideas for how to make things more efficient that I'll incorporate into a post-jam version if I get time.
@will-walters Glad you enjoyed the music! I'll pass your question on to @zorsy. We tried to keep the red enemies predictable and work in some rhythmic variety with the blue/green enemies. They each need to be hit at a specific point in time and should match rhythms that you can hear in the songs. We noticed a lot of people missed that so we added it to the FAQ.
Rhythm. And shmup. Wow. Love pretty much everything about this. Music was fun and got me in the groove, characters were enjoyable with their banter, and the idea was just really innovative. Small things were: my character moved really fast so sometimes it was hard to be precise, and could use more effects and animations to really sell things (like the window when enemies are vulnerable, your attack beam fadeaway or other attack animation, enemy deaths) Thanks for making a fun game!

@will-walters
Thanks so much for the love on the tunes!!! I'm actually composing more tunes for the game (whether we extend on this further or not) and will be hoping to eventually release the soundtrack in due time :) i'd be happy to provide a couple of the tunes now if you email me @ Julian@theconsouls.com

Really amazing game, absolutely love the upbeat music in level 1, didn't get much further than the beginning of level 2 though.
When listening to the beat, I would always be a moment too late... I felt like I had to press the button just moments before the beat.
I don't know if it helps you in any way, but I remembered about this technical writeup about rhythm games, you should check it out: http://ludumdare.com/compo/2014/09/09/an-ld48-rhythm-game-part-2/

Really great game! I love the idea for a rhythm shooter, I don't have much rhythm but I tried it many times and I had a good time playing it The soundtrack was amazing, I hope to see in a future the characters with color. Good Work!

@klianc09 I think you're right - the enemy hits sound correct when I play, but if I disable that sound effect and listen to my key presses, I end up playing quite late. It's possible that the delay in playing audio is too long and I'll have to remove that sound completely. I'll spend some time looking into it and possibly do a write-up if I find anything interesting.
Unfortunately there's nothing in that post that helps me with this particular problem, but it was nice to get some reassurance that a few of the other decisions I made along the way were correct. Sadly I don't seem to be able to play the browser version of his game, and the other links are dead, but it looks really cool in the video. Thanks for linking it!
Really beautiful game! I don't know if somebody mentioned it but it would be nice if we could see the dialog between the characters not in the middle of the fight, because I couldn't concentrate at it. The music: AWESOME! The difficulty at level 3 is in my opinion a little too high in comparison to level 1 & 2 ( or maybe I am bad at this game). Great job!

Wow, amazing, very nice idea for a ryhthm shooter, great music and gfx, well done.
It was very satisfying when you get into the rythm and shoot with the music :)

Great concept! It was a little too challenging for me, but these types of games were never easy for me. Great work with the art. I appreciated all the sketches and the audio was good! Good Jam!

The art and music are great and I love shoot'em up games but I was never good at them so I think that's why I found this game a bit hard. Overall, although I couldn't get far, i had fun in the short period i played this game. PS: It is really hard for me to read the dialog on the side while playing so I don't know what info I missed. (I think I missed some info about those metallic circles that appear a little bit later).

Neat blend of rhythm and shooting. I kept getting off beat though :( maybe if there was additional cues that help ramp up to the beat it would be easier to recover.

Neat idea. Very good graphics and music! The cutscenes are nice.
My main problem it that this game was too easy for me. I beat the first stage at third try, the second on second try and third on first try and I had no more reasons to play =C . The last stage was a little confusing for me.
