LD38 — A Small World

Look up by Vodzik 2017-07-31T04:09:53Z

I really liked the perspective of everything. Walking around on the planet felt nice, and I kinda started to feel a sense of ownership towards it! I think a quick blurb at the beginning saying like "The world is ending, dodge the asteroids!" or something would go a long way towards communicating to the player what they should expect. Good work!

LD39 — Running out of Power

Assault//Battery by tuism 2017-08-01T03:53:36Z

Loved it! It felt like a mix of Rampage and SUPERHOT. Once you got ahold of the mechanic it was quite fluid. I liked the graphics a lot even if they were simple, they were really clean. I don't have anything I disliked, well done!

Intercontinental Birdsman Competition 2018 by euske 2017-08-22T15:31:30Z

Hey man, cool game. The graphics didn't look great in the screenshot but in-game it all meshed together really well. The sound effects were pretty good too, it didn't get annoying over time.

Goyom by stefvanschie 2017-08-03T15:44:34Z

Hey nice game! I liked the concept of having to plan out your moves based on how much energy each blob gave you. I eventually figured out what the approximate amount was for each, but it was still hard for me to be strategic about it. Maybe I'm just not cut out for games like this :)

Stranded In Space by MAT4DOR 2017-08-01T04:39:28Z

Cool game dude! How many resources did you need to launch? I messed up my setup at the last second by building the 2nd building in the last spot which totally shot my energy production, so I ended up with 8k of the first two resources and a stagnant 4k in my energy.

I could have waited longer for something to die but I didn't have the patience. I liked how everything balanced out and how you could get a feel for it. And the meteors were a nice touch. I'm not sure if placing the turrets strategically mattered but that would be pretty cool. Good work.

Oh and the models were great! Surprised you knocked those out in a weekend!

HELL TRAIN in RETURN TO PLANET MONSTER by 01010111 2017-07-31T15:58:18Z

Hey I don't see anything at the flash link.

RobotiLab by afendar 2017-08-22T15:37:32Z

I thought the graphics and mood were pretty good! Like inside some robotic ship or something. The game did lag a bit for me, and then I got stuck at the bottom of the tunnel near the electricity and couldn't figure out how to move up.

Notpong by vegard1992 2017-08-01T04:27:45Z

Welp, that was interesting. I'm not sure what I was doing, but it was pretty intense. I beat the first round!

Unfortunately i don't think you can use those assets you used in the compo.

Who Wants to be Alive? by ysty 2017-08-01T03:27:30Z

Hey cool game. I liked that you could type on the monitors, I've never seen that interaction before in a game. The atmosphere was also quite good, kinda portal-ish. And learning new things is always nice!

Is the whole game timed? I couldn't tell if the power went down when I used the phone or if it ticked by all the time. I spent the first minute of the game looking around so if the latter, that screwed it up for me.

Death of a Mage by kalibrated 2017-07-31T15:17:56Z

@randomphantom Haha thanks! It was my first time recording my own SFX. It's amazing what messing around with the pitch inside Unity can do to improve it.

Impressed you got so far! Do you remember your build? (err, anti-build I guess) I tried getting rid of the mouse click power and I was able to survive but once the other skills had higher cooldowns it was GG. I wish I had time to make round 12 the "Final Round" because I don't really think it's possible to win after that.

Thanks for playing!

Death of a Mage by kalibrated 2017-07-31T16:15:37Z

@3mpty Thanks for the feedback! I created the music with WolframTones, and honestly I was just excited to have made something usable. So i'm glad you said something, now I can go back and look at it more objectively.

Death of a Mage by kalibrated 2017-07-31T16:17:04Z

@sgt3v Thanks for the feedback! It is a bit depressive, huh? I wonder if there's a way to give the player the same feeling that they get from gaining an ability by taking one away. Maybe some other meta progression that allows them to improve in another way? Interesting stuff. Also I like the Ice Rune better than the ice wall. :)

Death of a Mage by kalibrated 2017-07-31T16:17:23Z

@timbaleek Thanks for playing!

Death of a Mage by kalibrated 2017-07-31T16:18:57Z

@invixel Thanks! I don't really have experience with music so I'm glad you said something. I'll have to play it again and listen to it more objectively, and try to improve next time with it. Maybe even just upping the tempo on it could work, since you said it felt slow.

Death of a Mage by kalibrated 2017-07-31T16:42:55Z

@krishnasism Thanks so much for the kind words, means a lot!

Death of a Mage by kalibrated 2017-07-31T17:53:59Z

@gwinnell Thanks for the feedback! I was actually racking my brain really hard to try and make the abilities have more "oomph" to them, but couldn't think of anything else. Are you thinking like after effects (Ice Spike breaking apart) or things like screenshake?

The minion variety thing is a great point, and one I didn't consider enough. I decided at some point that it plays fine with just those enemies but I think you're right that it would have added a lot to have different types.

Death of a Mage by kalibrated 2017-07-31T19:48:13Z

@freedom-is-slavery Thanks so much! Means a lot.

Death of a Mage by kalibrated 2017-07-31T19:48:22Z

@johnnyc1423 Thank you!

Death of a Mage by kalibrated 2017-07-31T20:41:46Z

@rightangel Thank you! :)

@ganbaregameskyle Thanks for the feedback! I think you're just really handy with the ice beam! I'm just barely able to kill everybody with it, and I made the darn thing. You make a good point though, perhaps even speeding up the enemies a bit each round would make it so it's impossible to kill everything with just the ice beam.

Death of a Mage by kalibrated 2017-08-01T03:23:00Z

@drewg8 Thanks! Yeah, my one wish is that I would have balanced it a bit more, but I didn't want to completely alienate players that weren't very good, so I guess I leaned towards too easy rather than too hard.

Death of a Mage by kalibrated 2017-08-01T15:12:45Z

@duck-games Thanks!

@freedom-is-slavery Dude thanks again, really appreciate it.

@jason-kennedy Yeah I've heard other complaints about the balancing around the ice beam. If I continue on with this, I'll definitely need to balance it better. Thanks for the feedback!

Death of a Mage by kalibrated 2017-08-03T03:55:01Z

@doug-graham Thanks a lot!

@piscythe I thought that was cool too with the glacier wall and ice beam! Really glad you pointed that out. It wasn't a design decision, it just kinda happened. In fact I didn't even intend for there to be physics initially but it ended up working out. I was talking to somebody else about how getting rid of your skills kinda sucks, I bet there is a way to do it that doesn't make the player feel crappy about it. Thanks for playing and the feedback!

Death of a Mage by kalibrated 2017-08-03T15:04:50Z

@greysphere Yeah i'm not sure how to make it less depressing! Still thinking of ways to do so. Glad you were using the powers, some people just used the ice beam the whole game which sounds pretty boring to me :) Thanks for the feedback!

@mrerdalural Having different enemies would definitely help that! If I continue developing it that will be the lowest hanging fruit. Thanks for playing!

Defend Home: Mars by sgt3v 2017-07-31T16:36:19Z

Hey man, cool game, congrats on your first FPS! I wish I had explored a new genre like that, I bet it feels great to have finished it.

The gun model and enemy model were amazing for doing in a weekend, good work on that.

I had a lot of trouble defending both outposts at the same time so I gave up pretty quickly.

Game of Cows by greysphere 2017-08-03T04:12:01Z

Hey awesome game! I thought the mechanic of being able to explore the area a little bit each day was really awesome. Having more things in the world to "harvest" your way to would be really cool I think.

The graphics were fitting and the sounds worked well with everything else. The point I stopped at, I still hadn't seen any stone or metal/iron so I was waiting on that but it didn't seem like I'd be getting any any time soon so I stopped, but it was a nice experience.

The World's Worst Segway by doomshmuck 2017-08-03T04:18:30Z

Hey cool game, grats on finishing! It reminded me a lot of crazy taxi, having to zip around and get to where you're going on time. The truck was a nice touch, and I definitely died to it once. Plus I really liked your description haha

Losing Power by D-Studios 2017-08-03T04:00:44Z

Hey nice game, congrats on finishing! I liked the small touch at the end of the level where the screen turns green to show you finished. Also, the level with the platform that raised really high was cool because I'm sure some people would be impatient and try jumping to the right and die, so it rewards patience.

PoweRL by Steve Johnson 2017-08-03T03:57:37Z

I can't play it since I have windows but I wanted to say I thought the vector art looked quite nice! I think what could improve them a lot is not using gradients as heavily as you do, and instead just try using complimentary colors more, like go to one of those color scheme websites and try that.

Necromancy by N4tticus 2017-08-01T03:47:44Z

A fellow wizard game! :)

I thought it was really hard! I got items a few times but died before reaching them every single time. The SFX could have been quieter I thought, they were quite jarring.

Overcharged by lectvs 2017-07-31T15:40:09Z

Awesome game! :) My favorite that I've played so far.

The art was really good, especially the special effects.

I loved the small touches that your eyes turning red when you started killing people.

I did the good ending first, and would have liked to see how many people were left alive from what I started with. May have made me play again to try and beat that.

Then I did the bad ending which was lot's of fun. I had to do it after I saw at the end that it was an option.

Really awesome work!

Power or die by Aterlamia 2017-08-01T03:35:18Z

Sweet game! I was unfortunately really terrible and killed everybody twice. This seems like a really tough genre to make for a jam! Since there's so many things that you have to explain to a player. But the text was written well (too bad there's no writing/story category) and I liked the background music too.

Artifact Dive by AdroitConceptions 2017-08-01T03:40:16Z

Not bad for programmer art! I learned at some point that I could just walk past the enemies and not shoot them but then was punished by their jump attacks, quite surprising! My #1 gripe is with how loud the sound effects were. That's why I didn't want to shoot anymore. My rule of thumb is always make sure that they are slightly less quiet than the music (although that doesn't always apply).

A Growing City by Lipsch 2017-07-31T16:10:46Z

Hey cool game! I really liked seeing the town sprout up around my power plants. I never liked having to create residential areas in games like SimCity so I was glad it happened automatically.

I eventually stopped playing because the power sources were needing to be repaired every second, sometimes multiple per second, so it got a little tedious. Maybe it was how I placed them?

Good work!

Will Power by William Derksen 2017-07-31T04:15:55Z

I beat it! I liked the resource management, having to keep the sleep meter up. I found myself sleeping to full at each resting point, but just barely. Ran all the way out once and was pretty scared.

I think you could benefit from putting a screenshot (instead of the lamp with text) as your "promotional" image that gets shown to everybody.

Oh no! Democracy! by Tim Eriksen 2017-08-01T15:01:23Z

Man I was so close! I had one point left in Propulsion and then the damn democracy ran me over. Very cool game. Felt like a mobile game I played that was set in the middle ages.

I liked the concept of the collectible/special cards, wish I would have gotten more of them!

Cyclades Travelling Sailor by rightangel 2017-07-31T19:44:03Z

Cool game! It's like doing a pathfinding algorithm by hand.

I liked the graphics quite a bit, but I think the yellow orbs could have had more to them. The boat was great looking. I got every level on the first try except 3 and 6 which both gave me lots of trouble and were really enjoyable because of it.

Power Running? You'd Better Go Catch It! by dgollahon 2017-08-22T15:34:29Z

I won! Was a cool little game. I liked the mechanic of just having to avoid their line of sight and touching killing them. It could easily be themed around an assassin.

Stoked by pitpony 2017-08-01T04:16:59Z

Sweet game! Very unique. I liked that there were rocks thrown in that you could choose to avoid or use to fill in the load to send down. I didn't get the breaking the big rocks with the hammer for awhile so i had a ton, but eventually read the instructions. Maybe auto-showing them would be nice. Graphics were quite nice as well.

They Attack At Night by randomphantom 2017-07-31T04:35:48Z

Sweet game! I really loved the atmosphere and setting. I've always liked the "small cityscape" feel, and the 80's neon glow thing was cool too.

The combat was enjoyable enough, although it didn't feel really challenging since they all came in a straight line. But the sfx and animations were good enough it didn't really matter.

I didn't really understand the resource management. I took that first blue box in the beginning and by wave 4 i still hadn't seen anything else so I ventured to where the pink guys were spawning and saw another box which I ran to and then fell into some ditch and then by the time I got back my base was destroyed. So I was a bit confused there.

Good work!

Peak Oil by frostdragonliz 2017-07-31T16:31:34Z

Hi, cool game! I thought everything was pretty self-explanatory which was great, was able to jump in right away. Eventually I realized that even though the smaller countries/continents didn't have high demand, I could still build an oil well and lower the production so then I felt like I was being much more efficient.

I don't know that I liked that some areas could be run dry (except the slight jab at the fossil fuel industry). Because then I felt like there was all this demand I couldn't fulfill.

The graphics were really on point! The icons felt top-notch.

Plugged In by Porky 2017-08-01T04:28:26Z

Your link is broken.

Toast Up! by gwinnell 2017-07-31T04:48:37Z

Hey sweet game! This is like already production quality, I was really impressed.

Art - Really loved it. The colors all fit together well, and nothing seemed out of place. The weakest part may have been the enemies, which seemed a little too simple compared to how great the rest looked. But it was still consistent.

Gameplay - Mostly standard jumping type game, but I did like that if you waited to shoot and hit something you might propel yourself downwards. I was really quite confused by the coin system though. It seemed like I would often get coins following me and then if I shot something to keep going they would disappear? I did a full run towards the end where I got really high and got 0 coins, which was frustrating so I stopped playing.

I bet you'll rank quite high in the compo! Good luck!

Powerless Miner by MajamiLTU 2017-08-01T04:22:49Z

Man that level with the two gold and three batteries and bat was impossible. I couldn't get past it no matter what I tried. Cool game though! Very unique.

STRATOS-RZ1 by matevt 2017-08-03T15:34:28Z

Hey nice game, congrats on finishing! I like the ship model, was it done in Asset Forge? The overall aesthetic was cool, almost a tron vibe to it.

I didn't figure out that the red hurt you until level 3 haha, but then I was rolling and going pretty fast. Only ended up with 3 points because I was favoring green but felt like I got far.

Lifeforce Deathrun by GanbareGamesKyle 2017-07-31T19:51:28Z

Hey sweet game! The graphics are some of the best I've seen so far! I really like the added touch on the title screen of the letters animating. Might steal that for a future game :)

So, the highest run I got was 19 and then never came even close to that after. Really hard game for my brain to process! At first I thought it would be too simple and boring, but it's surprisingly challenging. Really enjoyed it.

Generator #4875 by Lyon 2017-08-01T04:08:31Z

Hey cool game! The graphics are fantastic. I also really liked the concept, felt like very dystopian. Like this whole guy's job is to do something that a hamster could do.

I noticed that after you get the wheel spinning, you can press both z and x at the same time, which kinda defeated the purpose IMO. In general it was hard for me to get the wheel going.

Blazing Races! by Jeffalot 2017-07-31T15:56:19Z

Controls didn't work for me, with controller nor with keyboard.

Rocket Barrel by Johnnyc1423 2017-07-31T19:55:51Z

Hey, cool game man. I got to 459 before I missed one :) (on the third try). It feels good once you get a hang of it. I think some variety in speed and size of barrels would be a nice improvement. Also the planets were pretty cool!

Running out of Human by Wesxdz 2017-07-31T15:32:07Z

I honestly couldn't tell if I was the computer or human (until the options which only a machine would say), which was actually kinda cool.

The ending was crazy. It was so peaceful until then. I liked it.

The graphics were quite good too I thought.

I think you should include controls on this page. I couldn't figure it out for a bit.

LD55 — Summoning

Courtroom Conjurer by kalibrated 2024-04-18T00:50:35Z

@cheesepencil Sorry about that! There's a time limit, so maybe you were hitting that and getting sent back early. The cityscape being in the way was partially laziness and partially game design :) That way it's a bit of a challenge to select the right juror. As for getting a good juror skill, it's just selecting the most different possible jurors across four dimensions - color/type/hat color/hat type.

@mythrilminestein Thanks a ton for the kind words!

@violetdreams thank you!

@vivid-hallucination appreciate it!

Courtroom Conjurer by kalibrated 2024-04-22T22:24:58Z

@itsboats Nope you're not missing much! Just a game over screen which is pretty simple. Thanks for the nice words! We definitely made it too difficult, I don't know of anybody that has beaten the game yet lol. We might update the Itch version after the voting is done to be easier.

The Summoner's Apprentice by Vodzik 2024-04-18T00:18:34Z

It was fun to try out different ingredients and see what was made. And the assets/atmosphere were top notch! So I successfully created the Vampire Decoction but couldn't figure out how to merge the other two ingredients that the guy was talking about. I think it was just too confusing for me - the screenshots of ingredients in the book were really dark and hard to see and it was frustrating figuring out whether to boil something or put it in the mortar & pestle.

Storm The Castle by Parker8283 2024-04-18T00:47:01Z

Really hard, but awesome concept! I love auto-battlers and I could see playing this if it was fleshed out into a full game. I think being able to choose your upgrade would be a big improvement, and I think being able to only start the game after you've placed your units would be interesting. Nice work.

inner vacant- by She Wrote 2024-04-18T00:35:54Z

Really unique! At first when I saw the small horizontal screen I was like "oh okay well that's a lazy way to make a small environment" but I think it's actually really memorable and fits well into the gameplay. The mechanic itself of blocking the bullets may not have had to do much with summoning but it was pretty good. I got as far as the moving bullet and I couldn't get past it. Great work!

The Worst Wizard by Gabriel Bissonnette 2024-04-18T01:56:50Z

Art is top notch, the music and the setting was great as well.

Literally me by TPace 2024-04-18T00:27:13Z

I felt like I was inside the mind of a mad genius who has gone off the deep-end and I must figure out all of these poetic puzzles to discover him before he goes too crazy.

It was a bit too much of a hassle for me to create objects, but it's a cool idea. I really liked the effect of the poem being rendered as a billboard material on the geometry. And the ground rendering was really neat as well. I think you've got a real talent for creative programmatic visuals - keep it up!

The Ghosts I Summoned by KoB-Kirito 2024-04-18T01:23:59Z

Really nice! Loved the mechanic. It took me a bit to realize that the ghosts won't chase your body if you're in ghost form - once I knew that it felt more like a stealth game and it was pretty cool. I gave up after a few opened doors, couldn't find the lever for the next one after the double ghost guard door. Nice work! Jump sound was funny.

Magikitty Fights The Sea by xett 2024-04-18T02:06:18Z

Nice work! Loved the sort-of mash between bullet hell and fighting game with the spell combos. It did feel a little clunky casting the spells (I think making it auto-cast when you finish instead of pressing tab again would help). But I got quite good with it and lasted for a little over a minute. Interesting spell ideas and very unique!

Three Realms TD by Redmori 2024-04-18T01:44:50Z

Awesome game! I love TD's so maybe I'm biased but from the start I loved the idea of having a "base" where you place things and then you have to pick and choose. I haven't seen that done before - very unique. I did beat it without too much hassle (lost two summoners because i overestimated the flame-breathing demon at the end). Nice work.

FantasyFootball by ScurvyStevon 2024-04-18T01:11:52Z

Really cool! I liked the mix of auto-battler and football. Took me a couple rounds to figure out what was going on. I don't think I ever figured out a good strategy because it seemed like whoever I gave the ball took aggro. So I got to about the 7th round or so and then quit (at that point there were also too many units on board to do anything intelligent). But again awesome idea and nice execution!

Ratastrophe by NaPlz98 2024-04-18T01:33:39Z

Well done! It took awhile to learn the abilities but the art was fantastic, sfx were great, and the mechanic was fun. Felt almost like a wizard game but instead you're an old cat lady.
