Is there a way that you could make a mac and html5 versions? That would be really helpful. It looks like my kind of game from the screenshots, but can't really compile it from source at the moment.

frostdragonliz 2017-07-31 10:22

Yeah working on that now, downloading packages to for Unity. Should be up for html/mac in a couple of hours.

Cool strategy game. It fits the theme very well.

31/.07/2017 12:40 pm GMT - Added Mac version and web version via Itch.io. Let me know if Mac version fails to run as only have windows PC.

Great strategy game with really nice art. It's not easy to win but after a couple of games, game is easy to understand. I've just seen one bug : Quit button doesn't work at the end of the game.

Making a simulation game is challenging, congratulate on finishing one!

I love these kind of game. I really liked the graphics, it is nicely drawn and looks clean. However there are some UI layering issue where the panel is behind the button so I couldn't see what was on the panel. See screenshot: Capture.PNG

Now back to the gameplay, it is not as polished as the graphics. However, since I made 2 simulation games before, I know how much work there is to make a game like this. So please don't take these criticism too personally.

* It seems there is no penalty for creating an oil deficit, so I can just jack up the price and produce very little and that way my company just earns money without any drawback * I can see that the fun part of the game is to balance your oil production to control the price and earning. However, without some sort of overview stats (e.g. how much money i'm earning / losing per tick), I can't really tell the effects of each of my actions (I increase my oil production, price drop a little, does my increment help my income or not? I can't tell without resolving to calculator or pen and paper) * I still don't understand the impact of region demand / produce as well as stability. (Seems like it impact the build and research cost but I can't really tell? Also I was earning so much money so I didn't really care :p) * The late game gets a bit tedious since I had so many oil production I need to click through. Would be nice if it automatically lower the production when an oil well is exhausted. * The game lacks a goal. I enjoyed earning money and seeing my company expanding over the globe. However, without a lose condition and a clear win condition, I got bore after a while. A little bit of a goal would help. For example, if you sets a dollar amount as the gold medal, another amount for a silver medal, etc. Then the player will have a challenge to work towards. Right now the game has nothing to work towards.

Hope these feedback helps! I love the theme, the graphics is fantastic. It has a lot of potentials. Well done putting it together within 48 hours. I know it was hard. Good job! You should be proud :)

Promising game. It has a few graphics bug (un-clickable controls for wells in siberia, bad z-ordering on a few things, special events not showing). The game should have probably a leaderboard to give some sense of whether or not you have done well.

frostdragonliz 2017-07-31 15:27

@jackyjjc Thanks for the feedback. :) Here are some thoughts on the issues mentioned and a couple of others.

- With regards to the z-layer issue, I worked out a fix for it with about 2 hours to go but didn't have time to implement it.

- In terms of giving people more feedback as to how well they have done, this is a good point but the truth is I haven't played the game through enough to say what is a good and a bad score. If anyone wants to share their end money I would be curious.

- The main gameplay issue I see is the fact that there is no real penalty for running a small deficit and just letting the price max out. The solution to this I had planned was events - if the price of oil gets too high it creates wars or market crashes in unstable regions, potentially destroying wells or reducing production. Again this isn't in just due to time constraints. In fact I wrote about 5 events and added about 50% of the code to implement them, but never got them running. Without them, yes the game will be a little dry and tedious and many of the stats aren't used.

- I agree that more feedback on how your budget is calculated would be helpful.

- The game doesn't pay you for selling your oil surplus :)

- I would have liked to have done a more fluid method of calculating the oil price, but didn't get time.

Thanks again for feedback!

Great game mechanics. I enjoy playing it and would love a mobile version. It seems well suited for touch screens. Congrats!

Very fun game, even if it is a little slow. There where a couple of times where some of the UI went off the screen and so couldn't be used. I like the link to the theme as well as well as trying to keep the oil price high while matching demand.

Hi, cool game! I thought everything was pretty self-explanatory which was great, was able to jump in right away. Eventually I realized that even though the smaller countries/continents didn't have high demand, I could still build an oil well and lower the production so then I felt like I was being much more efficient.

I don't know that I liked that some areas could be run dry (except the slight jab at the fossil fuel industry). Because then I felt like there was all this demand I couldn't fulfill.

The graphics were really on point! The icons felt top-notch.

stevenjmiller 2017-07-31 16:44

Amazing game, the presentation is absolutely wonderful and everything looks very clean and polished. I did have a couple of popups that went off screen or were covered in a way that I couldn't adjust how much oil it was extracting, but other than that there are very few issues. Great job!

jimbly 2017-07-31 17:23

Fun little game! Ran into issues a few times where I could not click on the thing I wanted to click on. I enjoyed having to scramble to build more wells as the old were running out.

Final score: retirement fund of $2.68 trillion.

Really good game, and a good topic selection for the theme. When played carefully one can finish it just easily, If there was some random events such as riots and protests and armed groups attacking the oil wells that would be much better, but as a compo game this is just fine. Also I wish there was some music in the background.

pitpony 2017-07-31 17:29

Nice game. I think a few sounds would make a difference (e.g. when prospecting is complete).

Well done for completing it in the 48 hours

simonhutchinson 2017-07-31 18:43

Yo! Ran the Mac version here, and it's buggy. Things in the GUI seem to be on top of each other, so I went back to play the WebGL version, and I think I got a better feel for things.

Very cool! I'm always impressed when people can put together a coherent strategy game in 48 hours!

tyler-miller 2017-08-01 02:46

Glad to see that you stuck with the code heavy route even though it wasn't your strength! Really in depth functions with a few bugs, not sure how you managed to do this in 48 hours, great job!

dast99 2017-08-01 03:47

I really enjoyed this game. Though it didn't take me long to realize I could jack up the price and keep running a shortage (could make the shortage speed up them hipsters).

kodiqi 2017-08-02 00:22

I really liked you application of supply & demand in this, as well as the take on the theme (I did something a little similar). I made $1,558,641 million, which I think is pretty good - a high score table would suit this game (if you continue development). As others have said, there is a layering issue with some of the graphics once it gets crowded. Also, some kind of sound effect or UI pop-up when a well runs dry would help (though maybe make things too easy?).

I think this was a good idea and you executed it fairly well given the time-frame. I think the events system is a good addition, so hopefully you continue with this and implement it.

aj-weeks 2017-08-02 10:40

Cool idea, not exactly my favorite genre, but interesting nonetheless. Nice clean graphics

raaaahman 2017-08-08 06:39

Nice idea, it looks quite good too. It misses some elements to have a complete game, as right now you don't have much to do than just not overproduce and get closer to the demand to max out profit. Still an interesting though.
