I really see your Studio Gibli Inspiration here :) Great Game with pleasing aethtetics and a simple, but effective game loop !
I really like the core mechanic. I think it could get really good with some more variations and ways to be more effective. The only complaint is that you can pick up stones with tools but not drop them, that had me fooled more than once. Great graphics and well designed instructions. Well done
@LittleLegend - thanks. Glad the Ghibli inspiration showed through (Mainly Howl's with a little bit of spirited away ;)
@tacohej - thanks also. Very good point about picking up stone with tools other than the hand. I should find a way to block drag events for those tools.
You're both being kind on the aesthetics. I really wanted to revisit them but didn't have time. Probably something to do post-competition :)
Liked how you did the help overlay. The critter mechanic was also a great idea (adds a bit of tension) or else it might have been a bit boring. Love how fantasy the game is with the graphics. Well done!
@autovelop - thanks. I would have liked to add more critter types but ultimately ran out of time. I also wanted more rock types. Oh well :)
I love your art style - I'm really getting that innocent Ghibli vibe.
I did find I was spending a lot of time waiting for the flame spirit to burn down before feeding it more coal. And the top half of the screen got quite congested with rock. An interesting mechanic might be to make it harder to differentiate between the coal and the grey rock. I really enjoyed it though, esp the graphics. Well done!
Beautiful game, love it. Very chill vibes
Damn green things! Don't steal my coal! It is a fun game and the Ghibli touch is great for the overall mood.
Looks great and plays quite nicely
@fazz - That's a good idea. It does get congested. Perhaps there needs to be a machine for destroying boring old rock too.
@Asado999, @eXr - thanks both :)
What a i guess "cute" game i like the graphic and gameplay. A little bit of music would added some mood but fun to play nonetheless
@Raogs - thanks :)
@Aterlamia - Yes, I started some music but it didn't sound right. The I ran out of time. Something for post-compo.
This is a lovely game. The aesthetics really pulled me in and made me try it. It's cute and works great. The only critique I would have is that there isn't much of a challenge right now, because it's really easy to keep the fire going. I like the addition of the slimes, and you having to respond quickly, maybe they could climb up to the mineshaft too? Anyway, good job.
@virtual-turtle-studio - thanks and great idea. If I introduce new slime types, that would be a good ability. I could also have a new tool (water bucket?) to flush them out of the mineshaft...
The art is really great, but the game got a little boring after I figured it out... And those little critters are kind of pointless as long as you send enough rocks down the chute for them to eat. Maybe they should turn into coal when they eat enough rocks. And another critter type can go for just the coal. You could also be able to throw the critters into the fire, producing different results depending on what they've eaten.
@good-enough. Thanks and fair comments. I'm just going to post your comment directly into my Trello board for the post-jam version :)
A really cool game, it would work well on phones. I love the art style. :)
Pretty fun, neat game, the art is very pretty. While the game loop is kinda short, it's satisfying. I think it should be a little harder, there's not that much challenge.
Really great art style. I could see something a little more intense working well on mobile devices as a timed reaction game.
@ysty, @strigifo - thanks :)
@luis-garcia - thanks, yes I think it does need more of a challenge.
I like the graphics. At first I didn't know that I can send stone downstairs too and I ended up with like 20 blocking my way to coal.
^_^
@ryzy27 - thanks. I quite like that sense of discovery - definitely a balance between ease-of-use and self discovery.
@frostdragonliz = :)
It was really cute :) Was there an actual use for stones?
Got 9 coins.
I like blobs. Blobs are my jam. Great blobs. Ended up with LOTS of rocks sitting on the downstairs level..... so I guess more slime blobs would have been nice.
Help overlay was very helpful... of course... because it's a help overlay...
I really can't fault this entry, it is what it is and it's exactly what it aims to be! :thumbsup: :fire:
@sarah - Thanks. Not as such. If you put them down the chute then the slimes wont get your precious coal.
@gwinnell - Well done and thanks for the feedback :) I like blobs too...
Really clever idea! For some reason the hand was offset with my actual mouse cursor so it was a bit confusing at first, great work!
Fabulous ! Love it. It keeps a long time to keep my fire hot. Really good. Keep moving forward.
I like the artwork, and the help overlay was good, but you should show it first before game. Could use some music. And add some particles or something when you make an action such as hitting an enemy so you get some response to your input. Hide the default mouse cursor, it's very distracting. Gameplay however, it just felt like I was doing boring work "click click click" for no real reason other than to keep the fire alive, but I didn't feel connected to the fire, money as a reward seemed unrelated to everything else. Maybe have the fire tell you a story or something?
Nice little game, really like the art. The help feature is really well done. Would be nice to have more things to do later in the game
@quaternius - thanks and good point on the cursor.
@kthulhu1947 - thank you :)
@impbox - Great feedback thanks. Very helpful. This comment is also going straight on the Trello board :)
@wevel - thanks. Definitely needs more challenge later in the game - I'll work on that for my post-jam version.
It unfortunately does not scale well later in the game, it seems to become more about "how big it can get" rather than "how long it can last". Having said that, the graphics are very cute! And the gameplay loop is very good; quite addictive in fact, just that it becomes repetitive.
My team considered something similar (inspired by Calcifer from "Howl's Moving Castle"). It's a little simplistic but not too bad. I like the little monsters.
Made it up to 24 coins before finally throwing in the towel as the loop had gotten repetitive.
The graphics are good (you really nailed the cartoon aesthetic), and the core gameplay loop is solid. The audio could use some work though; I had to turn my volume down quite a bit, and I say that as someone who also didn't do well in the audio department - I have to turn down the volume in my own game, as well.
Overall, not bad, definitely an interesting use of the theme!
Sweet game! Very unique. I liked that there were rocks thrown in that you could choose to avoid or use to fill in the load to send down. I didn't get the breaking the big rocks with the hammer for awhile so i had a ton, but eventually read the instructions. Maybe auto-showing them would be nice. Graphics were quite nice as well.
@agecaf - thanks for playing. Fair comment about the late came. Interesting that you mentioned growing slimes - something to explore post-jam.
@shaolin-dave - thanks. Funny we had similar ideas :)
@cliffracerx - thanks for playing. Late game repetitiveness is becoming a theme. Thanks for the comments on the audio too - it needs a total overhaul as I had very little time on it.
@kalibrated - thanks and glad you discovered some tricks. Auto-showing the help is a good idea.
An interesting game. Preatty easily got a handle of a cycle that would let me feed the flames and not the slimes (and hammering the slimes to get the stolen coal back was pretty intuitive).
Got up to 9 coins and flame growing out of the furnace... and then got bored a bit. But a pretty good game.
The graphics is very cute, love the flame spirit. The core loop of the game is simple but well executed. It sounded like a lot of things to manage but once I got a hang of it, it wasn't too bad. Sound effect was simple but it was a nice addition. The tips overlay was neat and well explained. However, I found that the game does not increase in difficulty over time and the challenge wasn't enough to keep me busy. I got the situation well under control after a while that I don't see I would ever lose. Great concept though just need to tune up the difficulty and it would be a great game!
Nice graphics and great tutorial. Game getting less fun after do the same thing repeatedly.
Very cute game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AUyAsiiWQQ
@pitpony I only ever saw them steal the rocks anyways!! Hahaha
Very simple a pretty game, i love your artstyle. It would have been nice to have seen some variance in the gameplay in the form of upgrades or different locations but a very solid game! good work!
@hilvon - thanks for playing. I have a million ideas to extend gameplay which I'm hoping to look into post-jam.
@jackyjjc - thanks for the detailed feedback and nice comments, much appreciated. It definitely needs more longevity.
@oab - thanks :)
@jupiter-hadley - thanks for playing my game and recording it :) Its cool watching someone else play.
@sarah - ha, yeh maybe that needs a tweak :)
@boxfort - thanks for playing and for the kind words about the artstyle. Upgrades and locations are definitely on my Trello board for post-jam.
Nice program, but is there any kind of a win condition?
First off, thanks for playing our game!
Your art style fits the sort of point-and-click feel of your game very well. The art is super clean and polished. From a gameplay perspective, it is obviously simple, which works. Thought I feel the small rocks could play a bigger role in the game - like punish the player for putting them into the flame, maybe? I was very easily able to keep the play field clean by just throwing all the rocks into the flame with no reason not to. Overall, well done!
Nice art, cool idea, but there's no difficulty, I've been playing a single looong game without losing.
I agree with everyone that the graphics are very nice and suit the game well, I think audio would have helped but I'm sure that's just a time thing (there's a hell of a lot to do when you're jamming solo!)
I personally don't get a lot out of clicker games, I feel like there's either nothing to do, or everything is happening at once and is a bit stressful. I think that applies here to some degree, but I'm aware that's partly just my own preferences. The split screen idea is cool, and filling up the hopper and pressing the lever was satisfying
Been marathoning Slime Rancher this weekend so I was naturally drawn into your aesthetics right off the bat. The help button is actually quite good as is. If you forced the player to see it right in the beginning, I'd imagine a lot of people would just skip it anyways so great call on that. The gameplay itself is pretty solid. I'm a fan of incrementals and was craving some extra unlocks and such, but as you noted you already have this planned in the future. Nice job!
