LD38 — A Small World

Feed The Anthill by StaNov 2017-05-12T19:03:43Z

As someone who currently has an expertise with ant games, this was definitely a blast! Also, I LOVED the sounds.

The graphics are OK, and I really respect you managed to do this as a compo entry. Must have been a lots of work, especially since the game has even a tutorial and feels pretty complete alltogether.

Of course, doing some stuff like dropping a "better" food further away from ant hill would be nice, because now I just picked the stuff that was nearest. But as I said, a really good game.

"Ňam ňam ňam" FTW.

Blomst 🌻 by Ava Skoog 2017-05-04T17:20:40Z

I love this game, even though it could use some improvements. :)

- Kinda hard to understand at first, so maybe some tutorial? - Allow selling everything by just holding 'E'. It's hard to sell dozens of seeds quickly. - Allow going through the lists so that up direction when you are up throws you to the bottom of the list. - Can't quit the game in the WebGL version :(

But all and all, this is a great game and I'm definitely playing it a little bit more after I write this comment and put the rating there! ;)

(Un)Happy by pcmaster 2017-05-12T18:55:03Z

It could have some tutorial or something, because it took a while until I understood what to do. But once I figured it out, it was a nice game! And it is really a lovely concept! Would be interesting to see a full blown game from this. :)

The graphics are adequate, so is the music, based on the info you provided (10 hours spent). I wish I could do as catchy music as you do to be honest!

Run, U Fool! by zgragselus 2017-05-04T11:53:50Z

Thanks a lot for your feedbacks! We are eagerly reading each of your responses to get some idea what to perfect in the next jam. We've learned quite a lot from last LD, and are learning tons of stuff even now.

@coleslaughter: Yeah, the two colors in advance is an interesting concept. We were actually thinking about it, but we didn't implement it afterwards. Honestly, not sure why, now that I'm thinking about it. Also, the first prototpes had the player moving faster, and we changed the falling accordingly, but not the color switching. :)

@maldo19: The balance of the "difficulty" is kinda hard; some people can get through fast enough, some are barely can get through some levels. As for the writing, we unfortunately didn't have enough time for completing it; the code of the game was ready for showing the messages at beggining of the level, but real life duties on Monday (and not a good time zone for LD) prevented me from writing the rest of the dialogues. But resolution can be ending on a unknown planet, not knowing what will happen next ... like, maybe in the next LD, if the theme is compatbile with our robot character. ;)

For the tutorial cutting - our previous game's feedback was mostly about bad/lacking tutorial, so we tried to do a good one this time - that actually explains the mechanics and everything.

@mrerdalural: Yeah, we actually thought about adding jumping in the first iterations, then dismissed it, and towards the end when we thought the jumping would be cool, there wasn't time left to redo the level design and add the mechanic. But thanks for the kind words!

Run, U Fool! by zgragselus 2017-05-06T21:54:36Z

@stanov: Every graphic asset and most of the scripts (well, technically all of them, apart from 2 or 3 scripts for camera and character control, which we modified anyways, and the postprocessing stack) are ours, made within the 72 (or, more like, actually 48, because of real life responsibilities on Monday). The only thing that is downloaded from the internet are the Mixamo animations, because while we managed to model a character, animating it manually is REALLY time consuming. The audio was made by a friend, so even the music is technically a custom thing for this game. :)

The theme is there kinda via narrative, but yes, we agree it's not there by default. It was kinda hard to think of a game for this theme, since we didn't want to do miniature planets and I didn't want to do ants. Also, the prototype was actually "closer" to the theme, but the game evolved during the weekend.

Overall, thanks for the feedback, we really appreciate it!

@those-30-ninjas: We are sorry to hear that; yeah, the PC requirements are kinda harsh, as we wrote in the description. :(

Corgo-a-gogo by nickavv 2017-05-03T18:38:00Z

Nice idea, but the execution is kinda lackluster. :(

Especially the controls are REALLY clumsy, and you can just crash into a box and it will put you on top of it, instead of having to jump around.

Koffer by pragmascript 2017-05-10T15:49:57Z

Nice idea for a game, but it feels like it could use more polish.

- The growing could be interpolated, so it doesn't look like the game is really lagging with low FPS. - Sounds (relaxing music?) would be cool, since the game is relaxing. - Maybe also a sound effect when you hit an orb. - At first I didn't understand what I needed to do, some explaining tutorial would be nice. - Some visual feedback when you are trying to place the seed, it's not intuitive and I don't know if just the direction when dragging matters, or also the length. - Do the vines stop growing after a while, or they grow indefinetely?

Until Tomorrow by MSiddeek 2017-05-04T17:33:51Z

I liked the story and such. However, the controls were really clumsy. :(

Curses and Coconuts by testlab 2017-05-06T22:28:26Z

Interesting game, I liked the audio part of the game, but I think the ambient was a little too loud.

The controls are kinda iffy, it's hard to kill diagonally.

Other than that, nice game!

The Robot's Trial by citsua 2017-05-10T16:10:08Z

The game looks nice! However, I got stuck after getting the magnet, I got locked because I activated it and the metalic cube fell down. :(

The camera movement is kinda weird to be honest, and the jumping feels slow. Sounds would definitely be nice, it would improve the experience. Otherwise, the game looks really polished! Good job!

Until the End by FernandoAdolfo 2017-05-06T22:39:20Z

The theme is nice, but honestly, the game feels iffy and would need more polishing, because in the current state, it's kinda frustrating. BUT, on the other hand, it made me think how the life in prison would be frustrating; so, goal achieved?

Definitely worth playing as at least a thought exercise!

LD39 — Running out of Power

Ten Little Letters by blinry 2017-08-13T10:55:44Z

Nice concept, but the game really is too hard! At least for me, that is. :(

The minimalistic design and everything fits it really nicely.

However, I think one tutorial level or something would be nice!

Game of Life by StaNov 2017-08-12T13:58:19Z

I like it, but I have some feedback:

- The music in the background has a cut when it ends and starts looping. Some crossfade or anything would be nice! :) - Maybe having more tracks and playing them based on your energy would be nice as well? - Option to add at least on item to queue, or at least not make it cancel the current one (so not allowing to misclick and cancel actions)! :)

SPHEER by Split82 2017-08-03T20:17:07Z

"Now you're thinking with spheres."

Really nice graphics, especially the volumetric lightning gives it a nice touch. :)

Scarcity of Superpowers by Pavel Kouril 2017-08-12T13:33:04Z

You can rotate the character while he's using burning vision with LMB. Should have been explained, my bad. Once you understand that, I think it makes the whole game more balanced. But thanks for pointing that issue!

Also, I noticed the WebGL version has one issue - does not show the "you died/restart" screen. I hate WebGL. :(

The bad readable text is because of different color space in WebGL, and even after I adjusted the lights etc. a little bit, it still looks "weird" compared to the standalone. Sorry. :)

Glowsticks by ratly 2017-08-13T10:59:59Z

Personally, I would prefer QWER instead of ASDF, but doesn't matter really.

The design is OK-ish, but it's weird it it draws from one end and it's not entirely clear which one. Styling the cursor as a magic wand or pencil with clear "drawing end" would do a lot for the game!

Also, what's the connection with the theme?

I however like the audio, a lot!

The Liberation of Liberatia by Somnium 2017-08-13T11:14:02Z

Wow, nice game! This was the take on the theme I also had in mind, but wasn't able to get my head around it to make it work.

As others have suggested, the bolded text or something would be really nice. It's kinda easy to get lost in all the text.

The music is nice, but it got repetitive after a while.

Feed the machine by Vivoubos 2017-08-03T19:57:36Z

"What is a BJ?" made me chuckle. Props for controller support, really comfy to rate game with controller! :)

Revenge of the floating pig farm by foxroxracer 2017-08-13T11:10:20Z

I liked the audio and the graphics, but the controls were awful if I have to be honest. :(

I would prefer just to go in the direction I'm pointing at, instead of rotating with A/D and W for going forward. Also, tutorial would be nice. Don't underrestimate the need for tutorial. Almost noone reads the instruction at the site!

Defend Home: Mars by sgt3v 2017-08-13T11:22:29Z

First of all, I played the fixed version. But holy cow, that is some great work for compo.

The music felt kinda Doom-ish, so that was a nice bonus. Darker atmosphere would help the game for sure!

However, there were some issues, like:

- tracers of guns would be really nice, now I was shooting, but it wasn't really visible IMHO - some damage indicators on enemies would be helpful, I was not sure if I was hitting the enemies on long distance - the movement controls we OK, but since the music brought Doom atmosphere, I think much faster movement would be in order; or even proper quake-ish controls could be useful, including bhoping and stuff :)

**My biggest pet peeve was the ESC key quitting the game, not just pausing it!**

Trough The Desert by zyow 2017-08-19T12:32:15Z

I liked the idea after reading the description, but the end product lacks a lot of things.

One hint - don't use the default UI sprites and fonts. Draw your own ones and get some free font. It takes like 15 minutes, but improves the graphical quality of the game A LOT.

Other than that, the obvious issues:

- Not way to go back to building hangar without crashing, and ESC quits the game alltogether - Flyings physics feel weird - No audio makes the game really dull - No fog/whatever on the sides, or some "fade" into skybox makes feels weird - On FullHD, the GUI is too streched out, and it'S really hard to see the GO button - No showing what's chosen in the editor

Hopeless Space by KonH 2017-08-06T14:23:51Z

The leaderboards do not work for me.

Other than that, the game was nice, although as other said, no audio and weird controls kinda kill the experience.

Metal Rescue by UnidayStudio 2017-08-06T08:16:22Z

The game is nice alltogether, HOWEVER, there is one issue that basically "destroyed" the experience for me - character controller. You should work more on that next time!

GN49 by Abdullah Sulayfani 2017-08-19T12:22:30Z

The controls are weird. I cannot tell you _why_, but they feel really weird. Has something to do with the rotations etc. :/

Other than that, the game really feels like just a tutorial put together with few models you downloaded.

The Last Frontier by Drag0mir 2017-08-06T14:20:37Z

The movement is really bad. Also, I can't understand what I should do, the game lacks tutorial! :(

Destitus by Ranzor 2017-08-06T14:26:59Z

Nice game, but the audio is really really repetitive! :)

Bullet Heck by Coley 2017-08-03T20:00:28Z

Not sure if I understand it correctly; you did it for two separate competitions during ONE weekend?

Lost in Translation at Space by elmismopancho 2017-08-12T13:47:39Z

The game mechanics are great. I love the idea!

How did you do the voice recognition? Some post mortem would be cool about that!!

Lights Out by Pinkfloyd95 2017-08-03T20:02:10Z

The link doesn't work for me. :(

Very Fast Robot Rolling at High Speed by binary_coder 2017-08-12T14:08:49Z

The turrets are hard to avoid, but all-in-all, this game was good.

Some randomness in the sounds (e.g, in pitch) could be nice to make the sounds not as repetitive imho, but other than that, it was quite fitting.

The controls felt fine as well, maybe the jump was too high all the time. Shame there wasn't option to jump less. :)

Zzap by HS_Dave 2017-08-12T14:17:31Z

Very nice game, however, I think it needs a tutorial to make it even better!

Graphically, it was nice as well. However, what would make it nicer, would be some variation on the patterns of the grid cells. :)

Really loved it! Was a nice game to play.

There's No Place Like Home by Remzo 2017-08-04T21:27:17Z

I love the graphic style.

Also, how did you do the "rope" physics for the plug?

S.C.I.A.C.E. by MEOWStudios 2017-08-12T13:42:47Z

Nice. I loved it!

Sure, better environment and models could make it nicer, but it was nice enough for the minimalistic style.

I was not able to win it after trying multiple times tho. Is there a way to recharge your energy/power? :)

Overshadowed Road by ZoeAgxn 2017-08-13T10:49:14Z

I like that it's basically just a spin on AudioSurf, but the audio was honestly annoying, and the controlls seem too sensivite for my liking.

Also, the GUI seemed kinda off; next time try to use custom graphics for it, and allow better navigation through the elements! :)

H3X F0R H1R3 by cakeknuckles 2017-12-25T19:15:03Z

Interesting concept. I liked it, but it seemed to be a little bit too easy to beat?

Some of the menus etc. seemed cut off, was that intentional? And some tutorial would be nice, nobody wants to read walls of text. :(

Air Pressure by zgragselus 2017-12-05T07:14:38Z

Thanks for the feedback guys!

@draperdanman - as for the upgrades, they allow you to up the amount of stops in a flight plan. By default, you only have two and with the upgrades you get 3 and 5 stops. You upgrade the planes by the circled up arrow button, and edit/view the flight plan with the edit button, next to the respective plane. I'm really really sorry, we should have communicated this better to the players - this was a major oversight on our side. :(

Critical Mass by Mads 2017-12-25T19:28:38Z

The gameplay was really repetitve and boring; I think it would be better if the game was shorter, to be honest.

Other than that, nice idea indeed!

LD46 — Keep it alive

Welcome Home by Iak 2020-05-07T16:00:08Z

Nice game! Took me a while until I was able to figure out what to do - some in-game tutorial/explanation would be really nice.

As others have suggested, the cooldown for moving zombies is too long.

Deliverey (VR Only) by shadowbrain 2020-05-08T07:40:38Z

I definitely respect that you wanted to try something new, but the game unfortunately has LOTS of issues:

- The long range grab mechanic was really iffy - The car was jumping around too much on the speed bumps; turn down the spring force - I heard some stuff around me, sounded like gun shots, but just prolly was one package I had in the back jumping around? - I was not sure how to get the package tracking show up, or more packages, so I just drove around with one package in the truck to test the game - Last but not least (and that was probably my biggest frustration by far); WHY, just WHY, would you put a continuous movement on the character? That shit is truly disgusting, and it's hard to focus/do stuff when the world is moving around you

Corruption by frenchie 2020-05-08T06:57:26Z

At first, the jumping got a while to get used to, because I don't really play platformers - but it was a nice fun game. :)

Friday at Barney's by AnaGF 2020-05-04T19:16:36Z

What a nice game! Really enjoyed the graphical style!

Affordable Pet Care by domrein 2020-05-04T19:03:01Z

Sometimes, when multiple people showed up to pick up/bring in the animal, I had no idea what they wanted, because the letters overlapped.

Also, I don't really see the connection to the theme, but it was a fun play overall!

Keep IT Alive! by flynn 2020-05-04T18:57:21Z

I liked it, but the controls felt kinda cumbersome. I'd expect the shooting go in the direction of the mouse pointer tbh, which I felt was not happening.

Good idea and nice graphics though!

It's Coming Right At Us by ChristianAufiero 2020-05-07T15:52:24Z

This is a fun game, but I would prefer more explanation to be honest, took multiple tries before I understood it.

Also, a with simple game like this, WebGL build would be nice - I don't think there's any technical limit why it's not possible. :)

Sourdough Finisher by instanti8 2020-05-04T19:29:24Z

Nice game for sure, even though I am not a fan of text games that much to be honest. Had fun with it though!

Just the looping music got annoying after a while. :)

Leafed Behind by melomel 2020-05-04T19:25:14Z

Nice game! I liked the buzzing audio to be honest, and the idea of the game. Finished it on my second try.

The Last Tree by Team Wala 2020-05-08T07:24:12Z

The game looks amazing and is nice to play, but the camera movement (and player movement) felt iffy. Too slow I'd say? I liked the mood, including the post processing and everything. Audio was great as well!

Good job!
