LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Hurrikeyn by Josh Riley 2022-04-07T06:43:13Z

Loved it. Simple idea, surprisingly fun. The audio was perfect!

Potentially could have done with some variation but all in all a great entry.

Total Collapse by tinykidtoo 2022-04-06T07:46:37Z

Horrifying, I loved it!

With a bit of work I can see this becoming the next popular indie horror game.

A Dance with Death by kleinzach 2022-04-07T10:27:45Z

Pawns but wrong answers only.

I love it. Great use of a chess board.

Cyber Revolution 2789 by godsboss 2022-04-06T10:47:06Z

Interesting concept. Simple yet rewarding gameplay. Decent graphics.

I'm glad you wrote a manual though. Otherwise I would have had no idea what was happening.

Would have loved a score to be able to show off how long I survived.

Solid entry!

Censor by Kurakurture 2022-04-06T11:33:39Z

Definitely a unique style. The gameplay was lacking though. Fetch quests aren't exactly a lot of fun. I did like the twist at the end and the social commentary.

My Type! by Linus Lindberg 2022-04-07T06:55:02Z

Came here via your comment on Josh's. You both did amazing work!

I really liked the weight of the words and how words would end up at weird angles.

If you took Josh's music and menu navigation and combined it with your gameplay, I think we would have a perfect 5-star entry XD

Nice work.

Asteroid Defense Force by benbennett 2022-04-04T08:58:00Z

Hit the theme pretty well. Though it seems like if you don't miss there is no need to leave earth XD

Noticed a little counter synergy in the upgrades. If you got the full reload time for the guni you didn't need to get more than two as the first one will be ready but the time you finish using the second. So the third and fourth go to waste. I didn't check the shuttles but since they take longer, they are probably fine.

A skip of the intro on repeated tries would have been nice.

The robot telling me there was 1 minute left got old fast but I guess that is on me for shooting it just after the 1 minute mark. Also the a less abrasive message noise would have been nice.

Other than that, I loved it. You really nailed that stressful vibe. Not something that has a lot of replicability for me but nice to experience.

Last Minute On Earth by Wheffle 2022-04-07T09:50:56Z

There is room for a bit of polish and perhaps some enemy variation or other game mechanics (such as locked doors or traps). Small things like preventing the enemies from firing for a second when you exit a portal or enemies not firing when there is a wall between you are pretty simple to implement and would make a world of difference.

The story was great and I loved the humour. Especially how it blames a different country or group for the end of the world every time. Nice sound effects and level layout.

All in all, it is a great entry. Well done!

The Ribbit by omer1615 2022-04-06T07:15:28Z

@yagmurumsu, you were right, similar premise to my submission. Great minds think alike :D

Really liked the art, sound and vibe. The gameplay didn't feel as rewarding as I initially hoped. As long as you press the right buttons it doesn't matter what you cadence is. The option for different difficulties is nice but it didn't change gameplay at all just the length of time you could play it for.

I think it would be really cool to be able to jump more than one space horizontally at a time or something just to spice up gameplay. There was a lot of space of the screen that wasn't used at any given point in time and there weren't any choices the player had to make besides left or right and one of those would result in a game over. Didn't feel much player agency.

Again can't stress just how much I liked the art and sound.

All in all, 'twas an enjoyable experience and has the potential for a lot more in the future!

Trolley's Delayma by albertnez 2022-04-10T02:27:39Z

Wonderful!

Really cool take on the theme. Great gameplay idea.

With a slight upgrade of graphic, a soundtrack and an extra hundred levels, you got yourself a best selling puzzle game. Well done!

Only You Can Try In Vain To Prevent Forest Fires On An Active Volcano by bigbazwa 2022-04-07T11:04:35Z

That sure was hopeless XD You nailed that theme.

I Encountered a few bug where I got stuck in the ground but other than that the game ran well.

It was fun, funny and intense. I loved the art style.

All in all a great entry!

Lag Tha Magma by wavertron 2022-04-05T11:56:15Z

Loved it. Very simple gameplay, hit the theme on the head, FUN TO PLAY! Like dude, perfect compo entry. What stops this from getting a perfect rating to match is the graphics, UI and the lack of music.

You nailed the things that matter though and I would thoroughly enjoy seeing a future version of this if you do end up continuing development on it.

Entropy and The Last Star by plexium.nerd 2022-04-04T10:23:57Z

Love it. Was very on theme. Wish there was slightly more to it.

M.A.D.D. by Flying Dog Fish 2022-04-07T08:09:02Z

Loved it. Great game!

It grabbed me and gave me a brief but good time.

One of the few entries I stopped reviewing and just started playing.

Tower of cards by Vhalenn 2022-04-06T07:38:04Z

Oh my gosh... My vote for winner of the compo. Too real though.

I can't really think of anything negative except maybe a better fired screen or ending would have been nice.

Like the UI and tutorial being suboptimal kinda leaned into the "We don't care, we just want money" vibe. It worked too well, reminded me of a lot of places I have worked.

Forest Runner by Tharbakim 2022-04-04T10:04:11Z

The Good - procedural generation of levels - character movement, rotation and running animation - background level detail

The mediocre - Interacting with objects feels the same whether or not you get coins - The music gets super repetitive. Only needed slightly more variation - Between forest events can make you go into negative money! - The shop was only interactable with the mouse but you make us use the spacebar and cursors for gameplay. It was just unnatural to have to use the mouse again

The bad - 10 minutes in I have done nothing but walk around (is this a bug) where is the main gameplay loop? Is this it? If there is more to the game, as your Loss Condition section in the description suggests, bring it in earlier! There are heaps of games to review, people don't have hours to wait for the gameplay to catch up to them. It's not like I was being quick either. Feel free to ignore this point if you think it was just a bug I encountered that made the chasers not ever get closer.

Summary - Overall, it seems like a great base for a good game but right now just seems unfinished. - Kind of felt like you spent ages making an amazing level generating script and decent assets to go along with it but forgot to make some engaging gameplay. - Your initial idea seems good. Would love to play a polished version.

Hopes by VainCil 2022-04-07T11:29:39Z

Would rather it was slightly easier. Maybe make the player coordinates easier to see and balance the movement a little.

Very awesome idea though. Kind of want to steal it :3

Deity of Jigsaw Puzzle by BigFantasyTree 2022-04-07T10:54:33Z

I liked it. Took a bit of trial and error to understand how to make any progress. Was a bit too luck heavy as well, felt like there was very little room for improvement of strategy.

Without the durability, I think this could make for a cool core game mechanic.

Bar Up! by realicraft 2022-04-06T10:29:17Z

Has promise but seems mostly unfinished.

Not sure if it was a bug but the game never ended for me. I was just zooming around with 0 hp still picking up things.

Zooming around was fun though XD and you nailed the pick up noise.

Asteroid Anarchy by Mateu 2022-04-07T10:20:02Z

That ship controls like a shopping trolley with two broken wheels and was more fragile than the ego of a teenage drama queen. What I would have given for more control or a health bar. It was frustrating, having out-played the turrets, to die from accidentally grazing the edge of a building.

Other than that small nit pick, the game was enjoyable. I mean I played it repeatedly despite my frustrations. What I mean to say is, its a solid entry. Well done!

U.A.D.S - Untitled Asteroid Defence Simulator by Jacek_s0905 2022-04-06T11:10:41Z

Ha, same concept as @benbennett did for compo! You both took it in different ways and its a cool take on the theme regardless.

More polish on this one, as to be expected from a jam entry.

I loved the rotation of the earth. Very intuitive.

Good layout of UI, though I did have trouble with the contents not fitting the screen. Might have been a bug, not sure.

It was a little easy. I could imagine this kind of game with multiple levels where Humans evacuate to a new planet only to find a new asteroid heading for it and each new planet is harder.

All in all, I'd have to say this is a decent entry. Good job!

Dead Stars by ImmanentDeath 2022-04-07T07:59:17Z

Very complicated and not overly well explained. I read the guide and still couldn't wrap my head around it. Admittedly it's been a long day and I am a little brain dead but looking at the comments, I'm not an outlier. Nothing wrong with a complicated game with a high skill ceiling but the gameplay generally needs to be more rewarding as a trade off. Unfortunately this doesn't quite get away with it. Comes close though.

Very good atmosphere. The feel of the music combined with the dark foreboding aesthetic worked a treat.

Hit the theme on the head. Even the growing numbers, so bleakly and unsympathetically indicating the lack of hope.

All in all a decent entry. Well done.

4&1/2 Lives by Tristian Tee 2022-04-03T22:40:57Z

Thanks Marco! Yeah the random block placement is one of the things I would have liked to improve upon if I had the time. Unfortunately due to other commitments I had to submit early.

4&1/2 Lives by Tristian Tee 2022-04-04T10:11:25Z

It is exponentially easier at the beginning but perhaps I should have just manually placed the first 50 or so platforms as it is still random and you could get bad luck on your first attempt. Thanks for the feedback Beebster.

4&1/2 Lives by Tristian Tee 2022-04-06T06:56:40Z

Ooooh input buffering, of course! The thought didn't even occur to me but it would have made a big difference.

4&1/2 Lives by Tristian Tee 2022-04-06T22:44:02Z

Very good advice! Thanks a bunch. I find it's very easy to get caught doing things that others solved years ago.

4&1/2 Lives by Tristian Tee 2022-04-08T01:06:11Z

@daniel-username Thanks for the feedback. Yeah the controls really need another look. This is the third version of them. My very first ones were too responsive but I think I took it too far in the opposite direction, especially when combined with the ice platform. Which again I probably should update the description to let people know what each platform does but I like the idea of the player learning from their attempts.

I intended the wrapping to be a kind of suprise/reward for the user after the leave the building. I tried to hint at it by having platforms spawn closer to the edge from that height onwards but as you probably noticed it's not exactly obvious. Maybe some kind of hint animation would have worked.

4&1/2 Lives by Tristian Tee 2022-04-08T08:13:50Z

I found myself playing it again and got a decent score:

Can anyone beat it?

4&1/2 Lives by Tristian Tee 2022-04-18T02:27:22Z

A few of my friends mentioned the similarities to Doodle Jump which I find interesting since I never played it as a kid. I guess it is just a pretty simple concept. My inspiration for it was actually the rising poison from Mario.

Mightiest Minion by poopgames 2022-04-05T11:36:45Z

Music was great! Ran into the same problems as some of the others with the screen moving and the lag on restart. The "combat" felt a little weird to me. The best strategy seemed to be to not move much. The jump animation was cool but I'm not sure what the jump was for. Maybe something I didn't get to or just a cut feature? In any case, I thought this was a cool entry. Well done!

Deathly Delay by MasterOfCheese 2022-04-05T12:26:59Z

Great little game for a compo. Funny and entertaining. Fit the theme well but just felt like it is missing something.

All in all a decent entry, well done!

DoomBass by kaanowski 2022-04-07T11:18:00Z

Great aesthetic!

Really needed a way to lose though.

Could have done with a way to keep the character on the screen. Perhaps make the camera follow the character and make the spawns relative to the character, or put in walls to prevent the player from moving off screen, or made the screen wrap around similar to the old asteroids game. Each of these are fairly easy to implement. I used Godot for my entry as well, I'd be happy to show you how to do those if you want.

Regardless, it was a stylish and enjoyable entry. Well done!

Don't Look Up by Lix3nn 2022-04-06T11:21:30Z

Ha loved it. Best version of this take on the theme I have played so far.

The music was good as was the art but I have to ask. What shape is the sun? :P

I liked the way each new level was harder and harder until I made a mistake and it was all over.

Great entry!

Hydropy by lantto 2022-04-07T11:39:30Z

Cool simulation, though it felt like more of a tech demo than a game.

Would love to see this as a mechanic in a bigger project.

Casual Movers by Tristian Tee 2024-04-13T00:18:39Z

I had to drop everything and fix stuff at my day job. I really regret not being be able to fix the bugs and more importantly rate other games. I'll have to consider taking more time off next time.
