I found this game really interesting! It took me a bit to understand the actual systems but it's really neat once you get past that.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD50 → Deity of Jigsaw Puzzle

Like the previous commenter, it took me a bit to actually understand this. I think it would be greatly helped by a small tutorial, because when you get it it's quite interesting and fun. Good job!
Wow that was great! I actually enjoyed playing this and I see a lot of potential in it, it is quite literally a puzzle to see how you can use the pieces to survive as long as possible and that is really cool.
One thing that would make the game better, I think, is that not all played puzzle pieces should get damaged each step, instead just the latest one placed or something. Otherwise the player is encouraged to only play one piece at a time to survive for as long as possible, while the fun is in trying to make combinations. This could also potentially lead to thinking about how to protect certain good puzzle pieces with other pieces.
Great job!
Very interesting use of the jigsaw puzzle pieces as loot/equipment. That's a great idea! I feel the game would benefit from having higher purposes instead of being simply a survival game for the theme. And also an art direction (sound and graphics) that better support/teaches the gameplay. I have meet a monster that I could not fight and I don't know if it's a bug or if there is a reason I did not figure for that.
Wow! Very creative!!
Really liked this one!
Totally agree with @haatregt! I think the player should be rewarded by assembling as many pieces as possible.
I would definitely play a full version of this game! Good job!
It's a really fun and unique idea. I wish a little less of the game was down to chance. It kind of sucks when none of your starting pieces can fit in the center, and you basically can't get more than a few days.
I liked it. Took a bit of trial and error to understand how to make any progress. Was a bit too luck heavy as well, felt like there was very little room for improvement of strategy.
Without the durability, I think this could make for a cool core game mechanic.
This idea has a good potential. Like said before, it seems that damaging every pieces at once encourage players to play only one at a time which is not very good for your jigsaw mecanic. Here's an idea of how you could deal with that : - Health piece -> your farest health piece take damage when you fight a monster ( if no health damage goes to core piece ) - Stamina piece -> your farest health piece take damage when you walk ( if no stamina damage goes to health )
This way people will try to build big structure with health and stamina on the end to avoid having big parts unlinked from the core
I found it a bit unintuitive at first, but I liked the concept, Cheers Arend
Nice game. Innovative game mechanic.
It reminds me of those games where you assemble spaceship parts and go fight or harvest meteorites. Here is an exemple of one : http://www.polygonpi.com/?p=1298
The concept is great, but would really need some balancing/buffing/nerfing. When I feel a game is to hard, I start to wonder if the problem comes from me and my lack of skills. But this time, I would say the problem comes from the game equilibration.
- too much variety in the joint pieces. - durations too slow. - not enough chests on the map.
All these problems have the consequence that there are very few possibility of puzzle piece assembling. My high score is 22 days, and that's really poor. It's terrible and frustrating to see all the pieces I have in my inventory, and to konow I can't use them because they do not fit. It's also frustrating to see all the pieces I managed to put on my core piece, then to realize they are all disabled because the only piece that connects them to the core just disappeared.
You have the beginning of a great idea. Find more tricks and more mechanics to exploit it at its best, and you would have a complete great idea.
You still deserve a high note in Innovation, because having a new idea that failed is better than having no new idea at all.
a little hard to understand but great concept
Like many of the comments here, it took me awhile to figure out how to get going. After a number of deaths I happen to start with pieces that fit together and worked from there. Getting the core mechanic started appears to depend a lot on chance. With more time it'd be great if code could be developed to ensure a fighting chance at the beginning.
All the same, I really enjoined the innovation and huge amount of work that clearly went into making it functional.
Really interesting mechanics. The graphics look solid and the game played well. It's a little hard to tell what the icons are and what puzzle pieces can fit together. Overall I like this game and think it's a really neat idea.
This feels more like a proof of concept than a proper game, but I find it incredibly exciting just to think about! I would love to play a more streamlined, feature-rich game that used the puzzle piece stat and upgrade system... it's a really cool idea and I think there's so many cool ways you could go about using the mechanic!! But, as for the entry itself, it is quite cool in its own right, too! I haven't run into any bugs and there's a lot here for just 72 hours. Great job!
Very fun game! I hope you reach 20 ratings as well ;)
I was really surprised with the entry! Quite unique puzzle approach to the theme! Was able to reach 32th day. GG, well done!
Very nice, interesting take on theme.
