LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Escape The Unstoppable Gooey Blob by OddballDave 2022-04-08T04:35:07Z

Oh hey, I love that y'all also made a game about a blob lol.

The sound effects are hilarious! Love the voice bits for each weapon. I did end up finding an exploit I think 😅. If you keep the blobs low enough eventually they all spawn close enough to crates that they can't grow to full size because they bump against the crates. At that point they can't spread any further. blob-strat.png

I eventually just decided to close the game but I got over 10 minutes before I did lol. blob-time.png

When I wasn't breaking the game I did have a ton of fun with it though, nice work!

Shotgun King: the Final Checkmate by benjamin 2022-04-05T02:16:22Z

So far this is my favorite game to come out of the Jam. This is such a clever concept!

Thermal Runaway by TeamMonumental 2022-04-09T06:05:30Z

I am simply amazed that this game was as extensive as it was considering the time constraints. I had a really tough time keeping the reactor up, but thankfully due to a glitch I was able to keep exploring and eventually find what I think was everything (those red, yellow, and green cards were hard to find). And on top of the scope you have a great visual style, tight controls, and a great concept. Awesome work!

Akubi by Almax 2022-04-05T02:23:04Z

This is really polished! Super impressive for such a short jam.

Stallar by Wendel Scardua 2022-04-05T23:36:05Z

Man, it's really cool that you made a NES game for this. Short, but fun!

Mysni's Revenge by LexiChan 2022-04-05T22:53:26Z

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I think something might be wrong with your build. I tried to open the game and got this message:

error.png

I'm not sure if it's expecting me to have monodevelop installed? Let me know if you're able to clear it up, I'd love to try the game.

MOTH by Beefsock 2022-04-06T00:48:02Z

Man this game was a RIDE, considering how short it is. I was confused, then intrigued, then scared s***less. Really great job at creating a mood!

Orbles by Rongo Matane 2022-04-13T16:13:53Z

Wonderful graphics, the creatures that are attacking look horrifying. I spent a lot longer with this game than a lot of the other jam games, it's really hard, but satisfying to play with and try to figure out. Nice work!

Pots of Problems by Rionisse 2022-04-05T22:47:58Z

This game is really cute! Unfortunately it seemed very hard, I kept bumping into the wrong plants by accident trying to walk over to ones that were dying. I'd love if you needed to press a button so you wouldn't do that accidentally.

Mayor Necrohamster by BinarySpark 2022-04-07T23:27:59Z

This is a really lovely game! I'm amazed at the amount of events that you managed to include. It took me a bit to understand all the systems (I didn't even notice the tax meter until I was halfway done) but it was fun to play around with and there were a few tense moments where it seemed like my unrest was going to go too high. Great work!

Pachinko is Life by Don Fouts 2022-04-13T13:54:39Z

I love the addition of a rocking boat to a pachinko game, it really keeps you on your toes!

Ancient Hogs by Manan 2022-04-05T01:59:30Z

This game has (refused to) water my crops and cleared my skin. I am now a primitivist.

Actually though, this was pretty fun and a surprisingly hard. I did find myself wishing I could throw the pigs to move them faster. Also, an aiming reticle would be nice to have when I'm throwing the spear.

Great job!

Wipeout by TheMoonrise 2022-04-08T15:11:09Z

I enjoyed the music in this a lot, I'm not great at typing minigames so I was not able to score huge but this is a really neat game and fits the theme well!

BANKRUPTCY by Mooptychunk 2022-04-05T14:59:00Z

This game is a ton of fun and I'll probably be returning to it after I've reviewed more of the other Jam entries. I love the twist of this on most management sims that your debt just keeps growing, really clever take.

Solar Shield by Nathan Garreau 2022-04-05T23:54:35Z

This game is really pretty! I did find myself wishing for a way to aim a different direction than I was moving. Very fun though!

Inevitable Greenery by Apandso 2022-04-05T01:28:25Z

This game is really chill and pleasant to wander around in! I love the art and music, and the different kinds of flowers are really clever. I'd love to see this expanded with some puzzles using the flowers.

I did run into a few issues. When I opened the game it tried to launch SteamVR, seems like that might be because it's an UE4 development build. Also, when I got to the water tower I ended up getting stuck in a loop with the cutscene showing the factory replaying over and over. Because of that I couldn't get up to the flower on that platform. I also had trouble getting to the nearby flower that's kind of hidden among trees near the tower, it seems like there's an invisible wall in the way.

All that said, great work y'all!

Horde of Methuselah by mrjeremy 2022-04-06T13:27:02Z

Found this from @jitspoe's stream. Had a lot of fun with it! Found myself not wanting to put it down, I would love to see some new things added for you to do after you've set up a stable group of settlements.

Horde of Methuselah by mrjeremy 2022-04-06T14:29:16Z

@mrjeremy Honestly I really like the style you have currently. I think it's the perfect level of detail to give you the information you need without getting overloaded.

If you're looking for general ideas it might be neat to include some kind of outbreak mechanic where one of your settlements gets destroyed and spawns a lot of zombies. It would mean you can't just sit back once you've got enough soldiers to keep the zombies away.

Magic Missile by Tim Sims 2022-04-06T01:42:04Z

This is really tough but I love the way its set up. Swapping between the two people is a really interesting challenge.

Inevitable Slap by Jacinto Mba 2022-04-05T17:15:15Z

I like the concept, I found the actual movement & lack of camera control really frustrating though. Could be fun to see the physics amped up so you have things flying all over and knocking down Bill and stuff, especially in a larger arena.

All that said, Nice job!

Cosmic Castaway by Perrin 2022-04-08T04:03:53Z

This was such a fun time! I loved the meta-ness of the narrative and the use of hidden files and multiple endings was very neat. Also, the puzzles were classic LucasArts style, by which I mean total moon logic haha.

Untitled Arcade Game by LeonardoMarques 2022-04-13T13:59:45Z

Very fun little arcade shooter! The visuals are really nice and cohesive. Most of the movement and shooting feels really great, though I did find the windup on shooting a little bit weird. If you don't hold down left click it won't shoot so I kept single clicking and thinking the button didn't work 😅

Keep Up by KekonDev 2022-04-09T05:26:14Z

Feels like a rhythm game in the making, the audio adds a lot to what might otherwise be an unrewarding task. The ball splitting feels like a perfect way to keep up the tension, especially as I'm never sure when exactly it's going to happen. Nice work!

3 Days At Sea by JamieOK 2022-04-05T14:40:43Z

This game has a very strong mood that carries throughout. Something about the pixelated shader gave the whole thing the look of stepping into MYST for me. I appreciate the little touches like the bottles rolling back and forth on the bottom of the boat and the lighting changing as the day passes.

Ended up making it 52 days on my second go. When I saw the plane and the flare didn't work my hopes were dashed.

Very well polished! I enjoyed it.

PS, I Love Crabulon. crabulon.png

A Dank Cave by ssh.randy 2022-04-09T06:13:32Z

The water sim blocking the exit is a really interesting idea to add into a traditional roguelike. I did find it a hard everything else while avoiding the crabs, it felt a bit like I just had to keep moving constantly or they would get me.

Cursed Ronin by Kaljal 2022-04-05T21:15:00Z

The art for this game is really wonderful! I'd love to see the character movement get a little more attention. Mainly I found it difficult to navigate some of the gaps, it required a ton of precision. Fun though!

To Build A Fire by ugly_robot 2022-04-09T05:34:59Z

This game is really tough! took me a few tries to actually get any kind of fire going. I appreciate the inclusion of the cassette, it helps distract from all the lost fingers. The physics can be a little bit wonky and I would love to see a better indication that you can rotate the hand, but this was a really cool project!

Lost In Space by PSV Games Studio 2022-04-08T04:14:53Z

The visual style on this game is great! The character movement also felt really nice. One thing I would love to see if you decide to expand on the game is some way to allow getting further away from the platform where you drop off the batteries. Maybe with some way increase your total battery capacity.

Atlantis by lisyarus 2022-04-09T05:04:42Z

I had a lot of fun with this. The idea of having the cards continuously cycle and at a fast enough pace that you don't have a lot of time to think gives a really fun franticness to a genre which is usually about playing slowly and carefully. Along with that, making discards tie into the overall timer to give you a benefit for removing cards you don't actually need ties the systems together in a really satisfying way.

Similar to a lot of others, I ended up finding how to last permanently. Though I kind of stumbled into it after running out of wood: atlantis.png

Ended up giving up after 40 minutes haha

Deity of Jigsaw Puzzle by BigFantasyTree 2022-04-05T00:59:23Z

I found this game really interesting! It took me a bit to understand the actual systems but it's really neat once you get past that.

HANG UP! by Jesse J. Jones 2022-04-06T18:36:23Z

This game is a ton of fun! I guess my typing speed must be pretty low because I had a lot of trouble trying to actually get very far. But the I like the little sounds for each letter you type and the little sound bites for each person is cute. Really neat!

EUUH by Caerind 2022-04-05T16:55:57Z

For the others who were having trouble with the itch link, I was able to download the game from the github link for the download.

I enjoyed playing through this, there's the makings of a good stealth game with some nice noir-ish vibes. The graphics look nice and the lighting with the cones for line of sight work very well. I will say I struggled to understand what was going on a lot of the time. It wasn't clear how to start a level so I just kind of wandered around the starting room until it teleported me to the level, and then I just kind of wandered around the level until I finally came across the suitcase I needed to collect. It also wasn't very clear to me whether I beat the level or lost each time I was taken back to the starting room. One other issue I had was with the audio. The footstep noise is very repetitive in a way that can be a bit grating, I'd recommend softening that a little bit and adding in some variation on the noise to break up the repetition.

Hopefully that feedback is helpful, I did like playing it! Good job!

The Clockwork Imperium by subcreation 2022-04-05T18:30:18Z

Wow! This game has a lot going for it. The way that everything is synchronized to move with the tick of the clock really sells the vibe of time ticking away, and the dreary music just adds to the mood. The tilt shift effect is really pleasant (the low-poly clockwork vibe reminded me a lot of the intro to Game of Thrones which is cool).

It does seem like the failure state may not actually be working, the clock hit zero for me and didn't seem to do anything, I ended up clearing out the board except for one little lone archer that got up on a ledge the soldiers couldn't reach: soldiercrowd.png

If I can offer a note, I did find the actual interaction with the towers a bit hard to decipher. It was unclear when I was actually clicking on an object because there wasn't a sound or visual cue to tell me it had worked.

This is one of the more unique projects I've seen in the jam. I'd love to see this developed further!

Unfinished Valley by stochastic 2022-04-09T05:18:43Z

The mood and the graphics of this are really lovely. The inversion of stardew valley / harvest moon's cheeriness is really interesting. Having a fortune reading each night adds a lot to trying to manage your crops. I feel like this project is a great skeleton and I want to see it fleshed out.

Forest by StudioCherno 2022-04-09T04:19:17Z

This game looked really neat, and I like the moody atmosphere that the music and setting build in the first part. I would have loved to see the exploration expanded on. I was a little bit disappointed by the second part, just because it was a change from that. That being said, the gunplay feels nice and I like the way your gun trails your camera a little bit, it adds a lot to what would be a very static gun pose. The enemy designs were pretty unique, which was cool. The actual challenge of the second part was a little underwhelming. Because you move faster than the enemies surviving a long time doesn't take a lot, I let them kill me after about 10 minutes. I would love to see their speed adjusted a bit to make it harder to just run away.

Great work on this though, I see a ton of potential in the game and it was really awesome to see a custom engine used for the jam!

Stuck In The Hypertext by RealTanHen 2022-04-13T01:20:25Z

I'm amazed at the amount of narrative weight this pulled off in such a short time. I haven't seen a point and click game play with abstract movement between screens like that before and I think it works really well!

I did have a little trouble with the resolution, the window was larger than my screen and wouldn't resize.

DEORBITING by Benjamin Humes 2022-04-05T23:12:32Z

This was a very well done execution of the theme, it really makes you scramble around trying to keep everything under control. Nice!

Corgi, Protecc! by JuulH 2022-04-05T15:37:27Z

Very cute idea and also a lot of fun! I did find it pretty difficult to manage because I needed to go around the house. Adding more obstacles for the cats to have to go around might help. I would also love to see something like automatic coin collection added as an upgrade.

Nice work!

Pickle-Pocalypse by Theo Clarke 2022-04-05T01:42:52Z

This is a pretty fun & silly game! I like being able to push around a bunch of the objects and the conceit of randomized weapons was pretty interesting to play around. I would like it if some of the weapons were automatic, my finger got a little tired.

If I had to sum it all up, I would say: This game made me truly FEEL like my hero, pickle rick. 🥒🥒😢🥒🥒

Nature Is Healing by KingOfSpill 2022-04-05T18:54:09Z

@sam-minh That's a really great point about the sprinting. I was kind of flipping back and forth about whether I should just remove it. Sounds like a good change for v2.

Nature Is Healing by KingOfSpill 2022-04-06T00:25:50Z

@benjamin-humes Thanks for the feedback! If I continue post-jam I'm thinking I might make it a bit more of a linear game rather than an arcade game. I'd like to have you trying to find your way to the next zone and along the way finding little vignettes about the people who were there before the apocalypse. Along with that I definitely want to add some kind of health pack collectible.

Nature Is Healing by KingOfSpill 2022-04-08T21:58:21Z

@ugly-robot That's a pretty neat idea about the flamethrower, might end up kind of similar to powder toy if I go that route. As for the algorithm for the mold growth it's pretty simple, each tick (which happens about 10 times per second) every mold pixel has a 1% chance to spawn another mold pixel next to it. It's a little inefficient as it is (it's just brute forced on the CPU) so I'm hoping to move it to a compute shader if I end up adding more to the game.

Nature Is Healing by KingOfSpill 2022-04-09T16:07:04Z

@eli-delventhal Thanks for letting me know! I'll look into it.

And Then You Fall by Zack HD 2022-04-06T00:21:44Z

Very cool take on a twin stick shooter, I like the theming! Most of the feedback I would have given was shared by others so I'll just say nice work!

Gem's Bond by LionelJ 2022-04-06T00:10:05Z

Very solid tower defense game! I found it really hard to get any more than 1 gold mine 😅

Time For Dinner by Applestreet Games 2022-04-07T23:05:01Z

Very classic escape room, and it was oozing with style. The muted voices in the background audio really unsettled me. I liked the puzzle with the reversed numbers, and the audio cues helped a lot with solving it. I will say I had a bit of trouble with finding where to click to move from screen to screen, having a bit larger clicking zones for that would definitely make it a smoother experience.
