So far this is my favorite game to come out of the Jam. This is such a clever concept!

Guessed the URL 😎
This is so detailed and polished! My only want would be to be able to change settings while in a game since the CRT shader strained my eyes after a bit (thanks for adding a setting!). Amazing work y'all!
Looks amazing. The audio feedback is really nice. Really cool concept!

This my favourite game that I have played this jam. Such a clever concept that requires clever strategies. It looks amazing and sounds great. Really great work. Impressive to make this in 72 hours
Incredibly addictive! Great entry, very polished!
I really enjoyed this one, super polished. I will def be playing a ton of this in the coming weeks. My only complaint is I felt some of the rules were a bit unclear, like if you were in check but able to kill the king that was not a valid move even though it would win you round. The spread was also a little unclear, I was never really sure how much damage I was going to do, but I'm sure as I play more it'll make more sense. Thanks for such a cool game! (edit:) I realize now if I keep clicking I can force an illegal move, so basically no complaints lol

Excellent game, great concept and you delivered well. One of the best games I've seen so far. I'll definitely be playing some more in the next few days. Nice work!
Phenomenal game from you guys as always with your signature style as well. Especially love that bit of slow-mo in the end when you get mated along with highlighting the piece that gets you. I'm still not entirely sure how the rules work though. Especially about when an enemy piece is going to move or not. Still, there are a lot of good indicators here and the fact that moving reloads your shotgun always means you have to move. Not entirely sure how I feel about needing to move elsewhere to collect ammo since in later levels, more stronger pieces replace others and so it seems way too risky to even try moving too much. Making use of the pieces powers by the black king is an awesome idea as well. Also, I don't think I would have known that clicking a few times would force an illegal move if I hadn't seen someone else mention it here lol. Never the less, amazing game from you guys as always. I got till floor 5 so far lol
Edit : I noticed a few more things which makes most of my grievances moot points lol.
Truly an exceptional game. Bravo!
Do you keep a backlog of game ideas? The game feels quite planned-out, which is impressive either way
I found the puzzles in this game very engaging, and the art was really fun! I especially liked the bishop and his silly muppet mouth
This is wonderful, as to be expected from you guys. So incredibly well polished, lovely art, pleasing music and sound effects, and an exceedingly deep game design makes for an all around masterpiece of a ludum dare entry. I found myself continuously "one more try"ing, enough that this review is coming nearly half a day after I first downloaded the game. There's an interesting balancing challenge in designing these types of games, where the game can either feel unsubstantial in the random events it gives you, or *too* substantial, in that it feels like progressing far requires nothing but luck of the random mechanics. Deciding where on that spectrum a game lands may differ between a ludum dare entry and a steam game, and I think you managed to hit a really nice sweet spot that gives this game a feeling of being much more expansive than it really is (though, i cant even say that with certainty because ive only managed to make it through like 5 rounds!!)
In any case, incredible stuff. Always looking forward to whatever you guys come up with next
(ok i made it further than 5. super fun) chjch.png
Maan. Can you make a Mac/WebGL version? I am stunning to play this, but don't have a PC!
Such a fun game! Building on the rules of chess was an ambitious idea, but you pulled it off perfectly in my opinion. It was a really good idea to have the player make a selection of a advantage/disadvantage pair, to simultaneously allow progression while building a difficulty curve. The audio and graphics go great with the CRT aesthetic. A rare case where I don't have any constructive criticism, because the experience was just that polished. Really nice work on this one, one of my faves of the jam.
masterpiece! never think it's possible to make such a polished game within 72 hours before I see this one. Solid gameplay and random elements. Retro art style and juicy game feel. Good job! I give my highest score to this game!
Love the concept, love the way it's introduced, bad at chess. not going to blame the game for that I got a few levels in and had fun

Cool! Wonderfull fusion of game genres/ ideas. Very well implemented. I never would have thought of such a game idea. And so polished for 3 days. Congratulations!
Amazing entry, most probably this edition's winner. Congrats team, everything is solid. From the art to the gameplay. Also, kuddos to accessiblity (I guess that's the purpose of the white dot on black tiles, and that's a nice touch)
Wow, this game is fabulous. I would pay 10 bucks for a fully fledged version of this game with 2 player support. I loved the artwork and the music which held the atmosphere of the game together perfectly.
The controls were very stratifying as well. It took me a minute to get used to needing to move every turn because you instinctively want to shoot again at a target that is possibly closing in.
Seriously, I loved this game and hope you guys run with it in the future and make something fully baked that could be sold on various platforms.
It is honestly nuts that this was done within a 72 period with a team of 3.
Well done! Loved it! Simple idea that works so well. I think this game will do great once the final ratings are in :-) Keep it up!
Wow you guys know what you are doing! Such good overall game feel, great graphics, great sound design. Actually fun gameplay that is also a cool twist on the roguelite formula. Incredibly well polished for a game jam game, you guys really are pros. I am in awe.
This is incredible. Awesome concept, great execution, super polished. Congratulations on such a cool submission!
Really impressive ! Nice job !
Wonderful game ! It's just amazing !
Absolutely amazed at how good this is. As soon as I saw the fully animated menu and the introduction I knew this was going to be a great game. The gameplay is really intuitive and fun, the visuals are beautiful. the animations are excellent, and the sound design is great. Amazing job

God damn. That was fucking cool
What a very cool and fun concept! Quite addictive and an absolute banger entry for this Jam. Good job to all of you!
Wow. Just wow. This game just oozed quality. Took me a while to get used to how everything worked, but once I got the hang of it, it just dragged me in.

That's it, this game wins, it's the best thing I've seen in a while in oh so many senses. PERFECT!
I had to laugh hard. The story is so funny. The gameplay idea is cool too. The graphics are great!
Wow what an amazing concept! Excited to see where you guys can take this for a full game.
Amazing work, Im really curious how much preplanning/work was done on this outside the 72hr. Its super polished and tight. The CRT shader and the SFX add so much to the game and the design of the chess mechanics are weaved masterfully into the card upgrades and solo play of the King. Solid job well done to the team.

Seriously impressive game. Awesome concept with a ton of polish, way to kill it
that level of polishing is astounding, so cool, it has that tense sci-fi distopia kind of vibe to it, on top of all of that it is actually addictive to play, what a feat
Wow. This is a super cool idea that has an incredible feeling mashup of mechanics. Really almost nothing negative to say about this game. I'm not very good at it (consistently getting to about floor 5 before making stupid mistakes...)
Amazing work here.
Absolutely beautiful experience. Will be surprised if this doesn't end up high in the rankings. Love all those little bits of polish that bring it to life.
That was really good, I've no idea how you made something that polished in 3 days. It was a really cool concept as well, super unique. Great work to the team!
That's a masterpiece. I don't have other words. Just incredible

This is incredible! Amazing, well polished gameplay with really fun and interesting mechanics, and the sound is spot on.
And the graphics, 10/10, release game worthy with really polished art and effects. Looks like a commercial game, I will definitely come back to this when you release the post-jam-version!
Amazing work, thank you for sharing!
Wow, I haven't words to describe how your game is awesome! It is real cool combination of narrative and gameplay. So you have made incredible rogulike-chess game, that involved me at leat for 30 minutes. Great job!
outstanding design, execution and polish. This has blown my mind. Great job
First of all, reallllly liked this game. I expect a top 10 finish overall. My one (huge) complaint is this game needed a simple tutorial. I didn't notice the useable card on the right at first. I also thought I could only shoot the chess pieces when I was right next to them.

Wow this is damn good!
I loved the game, and I loved the fact that I discovered your studio and your work. Very admirative of what you people do!
I could spend hours there! Super good idea the mix is well mastered, I can't wait to see your next game
Well, I just played like 10 games of this. Great job! My only real complaint, and maybe this is just not me catching it (or forgetting by the end of my long play session if you spelled it out somewhere), is how this fits with the theme.

Fantastic game - played over and over until I could get my deck filled. Was able to tech out a sniper king, extra range and rifled bore - made for a wonderfully unique playstyle.
If you ever feel like diving back into the code, adding a 'checkmate' (or forfeit) so that the player does not have to suffer the "indignity" of clicking bad moves until they are squashed. Similarly, if I whittle down the whites to a single king, perhaps he should seppuku rather than make me chase him around, picking up loose shells. Could so something fun here, a checkmate/forfeit is another place to add some signature flare and polish.
Beautiful game, excellently designed, highly engaging, wonderful tunes - you should all be very proud!
Beautiful, as always! I instantly knew whose game it was as soon as I launched it (randomly stumbled upon it on itch.io) - your style is unmistakable. I don't think I even have anything specific to comment on, so far everything is perfect, that has been my favorite game so far and I feel I will return to it for the years to come, as I do to Dominoes'n'Dominions. Great job!
Loved it and replayed it multiple times. Had some doubts at first regarding the random spread of the bullets and how it's going to fit into a grid-based game, but the whole package remains elegant and very engaging. My only criticism is that the theme itself is not really explored that much. It still inspired a quite unique game though, so I can't really complain ^^
The Ai is really good in this, makes you keep thinking. I didn't quite expect so much from a game about shotguns and chess, but I was really impressed. I did find the text sometimes hard to read with the CRT effect.
When the creator of Inscryption is impressed, you know you have created a masterpiece. 10/10
Joining the crowd here... excellent entry. Gameplay, art, and music are all on point. The theme could have been a closer hit, I think, but certainly not a disqualifier. Great work, y'all!
Good job! Great graphics, and overall theme. 5/5 :-)

Brilliant! Really clever idea, I'll be having another try later on.

Although I made a chess-themed game for this jam too, I don't think I am doing too well at THIS game. Untitled2.png It's fun :) Congratulations
Wow. This has to win overall category! It has amazing gameplay, art style, sound effects. Everything feels good in this game
Really creative concept! I liked it a lot although in my first game I didn't understand that you can shoot from a distance so I didn't know how to beat the king xD Really good job!
you make all that in 72h juste fuckin awesome, for me is the winner !

This build its super op (white king only 2hp haha!!!) the game its sooooo addictive. congratulation to the team!!! i love it!!!

An easy straight 5 stars!! Perfect game with astonishing polished gameplay mechanism and great art style! WeChat Image_20220407172443.png
Really great game love the twists with both sides getting powerups
great idea executed perfectly - really well balanced challenge - great replayability - extremely polished - incredible style and art
amazing job y'all! you've seriously outdone yourselves
Amazing job! This is perhaps the most elaborate, polished and complete game I've ever seen on this LD. Art style, music, sounds, animations, the gameplay itself immediately engages, everything is just excellent.
best. game. in. the. jam.
best. game. in. the. jam.
Ok... that what we can call a gold game. Polished, clever and with wonderful soundtrack. Can't fight it. That's just the best entry yet for me (mark my word) ! Awesome work here, I kneel before you, black king.
Dude! This game is **glorious**! Definitely the best game I've seen this LD, might be the best one in all my 16 LDs.
I've got to floor 8 so far, and will definitely continue playing.
You also have my utmost respect for making this in what appears to be a custom C++ engine (as I'm a C++&custom-engine guy myself).
I'll be waiting for the engine release, and any of your future games.
Wow! By far my favourite entry up to now! Everything is so polished. I could really play this all night instead of rating other games!
Creo que sois los ganadores, enhorabuena  :two_hearts:
Creo que sois los ganadores, enhorabuena  :two_hearts:
What a game ! It looks crazy good, it plays crazy good, it's very original and fun. I also loved the choices after each floor. Insanely good.
It is really really awesome. Best game i have played so far. Wouldn't mind if you guys win the competition! Defenitly impressed.
Easily one of the best games I've played this jam. The intro story could use some fine-tuning, but otherwise shows a lot of promise!

wonderful game! just everything fits froms tory, music, gameplay to soundeffects :)

The best game i've played on this gamejam! Congrats! I think it's realy well balanced, but maybe acuracity upgrades is too strong and must have. And Sniping the king is the best strategy. Sound and graphics are realy nice, like the artstyle with just 5 colours in pallete. Incredible.

Discovered your game through twitter, and boy it was a great finding : the gameplay of your game is really fun and has a lot of depth to it, I litterally spent an hour just playing your game because well, it was fun.
The graphics and music are amazing, they make the game feel so polished, I'm astonished you manage to do such great looking and fun games in this short amount of time. Awesome entry overall !
Floor 11 here. Mostly died cuz I was playing too fast and didn't notice I opened up a pathway for the queen to kill me >_<
The game has amazing replay value. I didn't expect that much variety in cards to change up gameplay. Even the simple addition of hit points to the game wound up added plenty of depth to the rest of the mechanics, allowing for spread shots and distance to be very meaningful.
The slot cards are especially strategically interesting, especially if you have the card that allows you to fire after using a card. Now you're really breaking the rules and doing some nutty combos and repositioning tactics.
What a fun, polished and well designed creation this is! I'm quite amazed by the amount of gameplay depth this has to offer, even with a full progression system and all that. Impressive!
Assassinating the king in 4 turns by blowing away his pawns then sniping him from across the board has got to the best thing I've ever done in chess. Marvelous. 10/10
AMAZING GAME!!! This is the best entry I've played in this or any Ludum Dare event!
I really appreciated the logical way the level progression is managed, and the way you get to choose your next challenge. Once I figured out the rules, they were very intuitive. My only criticism is with the occasional RNG frustration, where I'll accidentally kill a Pawn, revealing a Queen's attack on my King, or something similar. That said, I really loved the core gameplay mechanics and the way they were presented. I was reminded of Warhammer 40K: Regicide, but in a lighter, punchier package!
Really polished and stylish--everything comes together in this game. Great job to the whole team!
I don't even know what to say. This is incredible! Probably the best entry I've played. I have no idea how you were able to make this in 72 hours, it feels like a full release already!
WeChat Image_20220408012140.png Made it to Floor 17, bravo!
Incredible game, good job. All the ideas are good. Everything is beautifull. Again good job.
Punkcake team outdoing themselves like always. beautiful and fun. my only criticism is that it doesn't fit the theme very well.
Incredible game. If I had to nitpick a flaw I'd say it became a lot of work to pick out danger zones on complex board states. Something like Into the Breach's highlighted danger/safe zones would've helped decrease cognitive load.
Briliant idea. So far the best game I've seen in LD50
I like this game so much. I really do. I really really hope you develop a full release version of this.
Things I think might be great additions or at least worth exploring: - Controller support - Hazard zone highlights - More direct abilities addtionally to the "passive" ones e.g.: + spawn a rook to fight for you (or steal one from the opposition for a few turns) that moves on its own + get a different gun for one or two rounds with somewhat different mechanics like a sniper rifle + etc.
Also if at all possible I would love to get my hands on a linux version so I can put this on my Steam Deck as this fits the portable playstyle incredibly well I think.
Such a clever concept and so well executed, loved it ! Amazing idea. Very nice attention to details, UI, transitions, everything fits so well together to deliver an amazingly smooth experience. One of the best entries so far in my opinion. Respect, great job ! By the way the link to your Patreon links to Patreon.com, not your actual page.
Really cool chess-game! It was super well made really. One thing that might have been clearer to me though was which pieces my shotgun was going to hit as I accidentally killed myself several times by revealing say a rook behind some pawns when I wasn't directly aiming for that pawn. Besides that, very good game!
Absolute masterpiece! Great design and execution overall, very impressive.

Fantastic work! Chess rougelike it is awesome
This has to be my favourite game so far ! This is so polished !
Awesome game!
I call this build "Assassin in slippers". I was pretty much invincible and died by stupid mistake of not noticing a knight can kill me (I had to stop even considering "shield" warnings because of how they interact with extra actions from soul cards). record.png
Idea of connecting chess guns and cards is brylinat
Idea of connecting chess guns and cards is brylinat
I had troubles to distinguish the bishop from the king and couldn't understand why I was so bad at is XD This is such a polished game, I'm impressed. Good job!!
Really great concept, probably my favorite LD50 game so far. Shooting pieces felt super good and the puzzle aspect kept me engaged for a long time! This is an incredible submission for just 72 hours, so I’m gonna give some critical feedback because I feel like the game is already so great! - I found the pixel font hard to read - The initial volume is way too loud - I couldn’t turn off fullscreen (an option for borderless windowed would be amazing). This was fixed after restarting. - Once you are facing the King 1v1 and are pretty much guaranteed to win so I think the game should just end so you aren’t mindlessly moving around collecting shells. - Maybe I just don’t get it, but the mechanism for moving into an instant loss seems inconsistent to me.
Awesome game! I usually like to play and rate games that are still below 20 ratings, but this game just looked so amazing that I had to play it. The graphics immediately drew me in, but the gameplay concept also really got my attention! It is such a unique idea, and really fun too. It also does such a great job responding to the theme, with the idea that once the king is alone in chess, the player's loss is inevitable. Give the King a shotgun, and the usually boring experience of waiting for the enemy to take out your king was made really fun. The impact of blasting away enemy pieces with the shot gun felt really satisfying. The sound effects and music were also really good, and overall everything felt so polished and complete. I have no complaints. Well done!
Absolutely solid entry. Probably the best one I've played so far. The UI was very easy to read and the simple mechanics made it really easy to pick up. Fantastic work!
Wow it's so creative, so cool! I love the art style and the logic behind this. Really attractive, good job!

I played for over an hour and am probably going to play more later. Nice!
I love it, the graphics are so cool! I'm a big fan of chess and chess with shotgun is sooooo cool! Great game !

Very professional, polished, and overall great game.
This is one of the best LD50 game I've played so far. I can't find anything I'd change in this game. I have'nt been able to pass lvl 12, but it's clearly because I made some errors, there's no flaw in the game mechanics.
Maybe some little thing like controller support? Since it's tiled-based, I think it would work pretty well.
You made a **really** great job on this game, I'm impressed. And I'm going to make another run before trying other games. Woaw.
All the direction in this game was amazing. Fun to play, great, fitting artstyle and music. And addictive roguelike mechanics. Absolutely amazing.
Great mechanics, very fitting art and sound, a bit of backstory, and lots of polish make this one of my favourite Ludum Dare games so far. I haven't gotten as far as some other people have so there's clearly stuff left for me to learn.
My main criticism would be that it's only available on Windows, but it seems to work well in wine on Linux.
I first found out your game on Reddit and I must say that the idea is amazing, the amount of polish you were able to put in a gamejam game is also incredible
Great job on the game. It was very well polished and was a blast to play. I also thought the upgrade system where you also get a downside with it made the choices more interesting. I would love to see an expanded version of this. There are still somethings that i noticed that could possibly be improved. The main thing was the fact it was difficult to tell how much damage the shotgun was going to do and who it would end up hitting. It felt bad to not quite deal enough damage to finish something off and losing because of it. I think clarity there would help out a lot. On a more minor note, I was not a huge fan of the collecting ammo mechanic as it tended to mainly be used at the end of rounds when you had pretty much already won and just made finishing take longer. Overall though fantastic work.
Awesome concept, well made too. Loved shooting the king and watching all the others get shot down with the might of chess-zeus!
Absolutely killer concept and brilliant execution. Also really loved the programming in this one! An impressive game regardless of the time frame.
Only one word: YES!
Only one word: YES!
Very cool.
It took a few tries to get my head around how all the systems work but once I had it all worked out I found it very enjoyable.
Super fun! SACRED CROWN plus RITUAL DAGGER made it a great combo to get close to the white king and kill it within a shot. And ROYAL LOAFERS and EXTRA BARREL are also worthy choices as they brought about interesting interactions.
Just got desperate when encountering 4 rows of white pieces. The white side had five queens! XD

Can't believe this game was done in 72 hours, it looks so clean and polished! Love the idea and the explanations of the pieces - finally some good f* chess.
Impressive game! So hard but so strategic and clever  I did not think enough about using the soul cards, sadly! (what about making it float over its position?)
How did you make this in only 72 hours!?!? The graphics are amazing! The polish is insane. I can definitely see this game winning.
Awesome game! Loved the atmosphere and how polished it is! Good job!
Amazing idea, modifying the rules of chess to get faster, more fulfilling gameplay! I was amazed by the depth this game has - not only the souls system, but also the modifier cards after every win. Firing the shotgun felt great, taking stones felt great, even losing felt... deserved. Spectacular job and a clear favourite of mine this LD. Thank you so much for this game!
Cool in every aspect. My only major gripe is that I found the damage system very confusing.
Great feel. Retro everything was on point. Only complaint was how to play could have been explained better. It took me a couple of tries but after I figured it out. I gave a few more tries. (Which is more than I've done for any other game yet haha.

I've played many great entries but you guys are the winner for me, outstanding work!
Easily one of the top games I've played so far! The shotgun and upgrades really add an extra dimension to the already interesting game of chess! Really amazing entry, everything is on point and really polished.
Insane game! Such an interesting twist to chess, loved the CRT filter. Thank god that movement of pieces is shown, as I I suck at chess  Those upgrades at the end of level are a nice addition. Simply, masterful! I hope this will get first place
Insane amount of polish, fantastic game, cant wrap my head around just one guy doing graphics, game design and coding this in 72 hours. Well done.
So fun and polished ! Couldn't figure out why certain moves that would put be in arm's way were forbidden while some others were allowed and resulted in my king being taken though

Meilleur jeu de la jam jusque là ! Les mécaniques sont incroyables, le jeu est super fun, l'ambiance est prenante ! Bravo !
Too good.
Great idea and awesome art style! I really like it, especially since I'm a chess enthusiast. Great job with the game!
I love chess! I also love the graphics it's so juicy
nice little game
Fantastic Game!
Fantastic! So far my favorite entry this LD Jam.
It's damn great, I'm keeping this on my pc!
Isn't this just regular chess?
Vraiment génial ! Félicitations !
Big fan of this! The gameplay feels extremely well balanced, which is hugely important when you've got a fairly rigid set of rules and can't, say, react a little bit quicker or level up before tackling a particularly tough challenge. At the same time, the between-floor upgrades add a whole lot of variety. I managed to get two engraved scopes at one point (which I assume stack - it was hard to compare against just the one) and it was very satisfying to be able to reliable snipe pieces from several squares away. I might take the other approach at some point and really blunderbuss it up!
Since this is such a polished game I don't have that much in the way of suggestions. The one thing that really springs to mind - though I think it's down to personal preference rather than what the game "should" be - is that I'd like more of an indication where each piece is going to move. It's hard to keep track of a bunch of them at once - something you never have to do in regular chess - and since part of the challenge is planning more than one move ahead I feel as though highlighting enemy moves when you hover over a destination/target would help avoid sudden game-ending disasters without detracting from the overall challenge. Basically, I'm sort of hoping for something that plays just a little bit more like *Into the Breach* but realise that may not be the goal here.
Oh, also I see @faceless asked about a Linux version - I actually played this on Ubuntu through the Itch app, which can launch stuff in WINE. No idea if that's an option on the Steam Deck, but possibly something to look into.
Definitly the best game I tried so far! Coming from you, I'm not surprised, graphics, music, gameplay… This is a solid entry, well done!
Actually felt that I got a little better at strategising chess moves with this game. Perhaps not too much better... but a smidgen at least ;) Art-style was on point, clean and simple yet elegant with great usage of a limited colour-scheme. Same goes for the audio, stellar choice of sound effects and the music fits perfectly. Gameplay felt really intuitive and had surprising depth. One of the few games which I think actually pull off a successful twist on chess, making it feel very unique whilst still staying true to the universe of chess.
It doesn't feel like it was made in 72 hours with this incredible amount of polish ***(not that I have any doubts that it was, I'm just stunned :) )***.
My one and only gripe with this game would be that it felt like you had to wait a bit too long between runs. As someone who tended to have quite short runs and played quite a lot of them (at least 30-40 runs, definitely lost count) it got a bit tedious to have to skip through the introduction story each time. Even though I did love it a lot: it did lose its punch after the 10th time or so.
Although this didn't really bother me too much since the only reason I was skipping through the intro time after time was to get back to the incredibly entertaining and addictive gameplay :)
**Conclusion:** Absolutely phenomenal work!
Being a fav of chess... this is something. I tried to make something like this in my childhood. In my mind. Ever since then desired for the games like this, re-inventing chess. Narrative here is too much too long and not quite needed, for the game itself tells the difference and makes statements. Very F* cool entry! Polish this one, please. Maybe even a multiplayer. I'll play. Oh, and do restart level, saves, that stuff, please.
So far my favourite entry. I really want to finish the game so you definitely achieve the "how to make game fun" challenge.
I don't think this is what Seabrook had in mind when he mad Shooting Chess. Godly game, I simply love the level of polish it has.
Wow! Checkmates! What a wonderful idea! Really good entry

I think this is the game I've rated the highest so far! Just, everything about this game is great! I could even see this becoming an actual product! If I had to say one thing, it's that you shouldn't always get damaged if you enter an enemy's radius while their turn is multiple turns away, but besides that, this game is absolutely phenomenal and you guys should keep up the amazing work!
RON THESE ARE SO MUCH BETTER THAN WANDS
This one would probably land top 10 of this LD
This game is just so fun and amazing! It looks like a full game that just needs to be published! Well done!
Very fun and polished game, congratulations !
I am too focused on shooting pieces down that I forget this is chess and I should avoid getting checkmated.
Am interesting take on a true classic of games. Expanding on it by giving it a narrative twist. I enjoyed the puzzle challenges. The pixel art style fits well with the audio.

Astonishing game, just wow!
amazing!
A variable CRT filter? Very well polished. Amazing graphics and sound.
The only thing I didn't like was having to go back to the title screen to play again. The "skip intro" option made it a little less annoying, but being able to restart from the game over screen would have been nice.
Wow this was easily my favorite game from the jam, very well done on all fronts!
nice core system. any plan to polish more and publish your game to Steam or other platforms?
fun and engaging

It's impossible to say something about this that hasn't already been said. Easily one of my favorite submissions of this jam. The aesthetics are phenomenal, the core gameplay is clever, and the setting is interesting. The quality across the board is incredibly high for a jam project. Playing this was a blast.

Really impressive game, love it. I can't believe how many times I discovered attacks on myself by blasting what was in front of me... Another banger from Punkcake :pancakes:
@dustya29 Yes, we're working on it! :)
@f1lthy-c4sual Itch might have been down for a few moments, maybe it'll work if you try again now?
Everyone else: Thank you so much for all the feedback! We're super happy you're enjoying the game!! Stay tuned for the full version!
Thanks for the game!
This _fully_ deserves its rating - excellent work!
Cheesed it :D One hp white king and a sniper rifle.
The design is excellent, so many small, amazing decisions to balance everything out. Well deserved winner!
