Very odd game - I collected the first orb, not sure what to do next? Disorienting but cool, fits the theme as far as I can tell
I always love these kinds of games, though I wish there was more of a strategy to figuring out new recipes - maybe one of the ingredients could be shown at first, or include some kind of description for the ingredients that hint at their uses. Anyway, fun stuff - the brewing minigame could stand to be a little faster IMO :)
I'm confused - what importance do the grid backgrounds serve? how do you score? game seems fun and the music is very good i just can't figure out what to do :P
hard to pull myself away from these match 3 games. this one is no exception! the art is very satisfying too :)
interesting puzzle, executed well :) i like your twist (getting stuck in the dimension) to an otherwise familiar concept. good work :)
Really clean and cute puzzle game. I am usually no good at these games but this one had a good difficulty curve and is very engaging. I would have added a reset-level button for simplicity.
really engaging mechanic!! i love this kinda stuff that gets more chaotic as it goes on. my entry is very similar :)
THIS IS SO ADORABLE!!!!! enough said. Great work! I accidentally played the first level 3 times before noticing
Cool idea!! very unique puzzle that surprised me with how intuitive and engaging it was :) No complaints from me - this is a solid entry that fits the theme well and is fun to play. It would be cool to see some stuff implemented (magnets) down the line :)
great art, and teh concept was cute. Good work :D
brilliant atmosphere and sound!! good work :D
Rofl, the youtube link got me good. Funny stuff, man :) I relate to the slump.
Cool concept, and props to programming your first game jam game :) Genuinely creative idea and you executed well enough for a clean and straightforward experience. I'd give the player the ability to stop dropping blocks early, as well as making the process faster overall, as it can drag on a little bit. For extra points, you can implement line clearing :P
Adorable - reminds me of Katamari. Great concept and execution, especially with the theme :)
Startled me !!! Good creepy fun :) good work on creating a finished and polished game. That jumpscare was so mean. The sound effects are perfect. Nailed it
Very cool! i love dream games :) balancing mechanic reminds me of Tony Hawk...
This is bananas!!! Adorable art! I like feeling like WTF is going on ... and then picking up some plushies :D
good stuff :) i think having a way to heal would be helpful, if there isn't one already
Stacking is always fun, but why is she so mean !!! TT__TT great art for the background!!
I got the milk :) Neat concept, if a little edgy... bonus points for the dynamic music :)
SUPER polished and juicy! good job, though it was hard to tell at first that those blood pickups were not more enemy projectiles :P
cool concept, but for some reason the asteroids stop coming after a little while...?
Visually very striking, i lold at the computer screens. wish I got further but the game crashed when i attempted to fix the pipe
This is a really cute concept that I wasn't prepared for :) The art and gameplay work well for this jam, and I like how you subverted the "mental instability" theme lots of people are using by making it about a robot instead. One thing I'd change is to restrict only certain keypresses from advancing the text, as I accidentally skipped some lines :P
Brutal! this game is awesome. crunchy, unique mechanic, good soundtrack. you did a great job man! Sometimes it felt a little hard to jump off blocks that i was grabbing with the mouse.
really fun - i got stuck at the same place as Myles :P super engaging though and you executed teh puzzle design really well!
Where is the web version?
Great concept, but I'm having controls issues. I can't seem to alter the cooling and power levels, and occasionally mouse input stops working. Maybe that's just the web version, though.
So good! simple concept, feels great, satisfying to master. Really clean package. Now it just needs strafe jumping ;P
At first I didn't, but then I did. Cute and funny. Wish there was a health indicator.
108 seconds :) this game really tests your touch typing... love the concept, even if it doesn't really relate much to the theme (i can relate). fun!!! took me a minute to figure out how to dodge ("run right? dodge right? ohhhh")
Frankly, it's a wonder there aren't more QWOP-likes for this jam's theme, to speak nothing of all the horse games. 231 personal best. Damn you. 10/10
Cool concept! unfortunately it is also crashing for me after level 1. I hope to see more :)
Beat it :) Crazy visuals! off the wall!! Good work - i only wish there was sound :)
Pure lunacy, I love it. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise - the control scheme is great and just difficult enough to be fun.
Very pretty! I love the art and the sound effects - surprised you opted out of rating on the latter. Gameplay feels good, and the level design is nice though a little unforgiving. Something i don't quite understand: what's the point of the rotation speed meter?
@comfy I see, I suspected as much but I wasn't sure :) With that said, might it not be a good change for the future (if you're thinking that far ahead with this game) to change it to a slider the user controls directly? depending on what your goals are :p
Fun stuff. Wish I could adjust mouse sensitivity - it's a bit low. The shooting mechanic visually reminds me of active reload (from gears of war). The screen effect indicating your health is a nice touch.
the controls were strange (jumping and then teleporting downwards confused me and i had to restart coz I went off screen). but this is a charming little game with an interesting message :)
Hilarious and simple. Good stuff :)
atmospheric :) I agree with the other posters that having a minimap would help, though maybe it wouldnt fit with the theme
cute. the music and mechanics made me laugh :)
thank yuo all!!! :D
@slimmerburger @elastic thanks so much! that means a lot, this is my first time entering LD :)
@justcallmebb i was worried that would happen! if it does again, try the "unstick" button in the pause menu. didn't get the chance to iron out all the level gen kinks :P
@gus-goucher @glenugie thank you all so much!! I dunno what to even say :D there are so many good games this jam I am honored to be your favorite (so far)
Thank you so much!! @pkzinpo @jayjack
@javicoder it should definitely not do that!!
I can't believe you made me download this 1gb game just to make me throw up from motion sickness. You sick fuck Charming though. Can't believe you put the agdg logo in the corner after i told you not to! 10/10
Great mood.
Cute! I love the concept. Only a little bit of polishing and this would make for a very fun and engaging full-length puzzle platformer.
Great stuff, reminds me of about 10 different flash games of yore - you nailed it man. Would benefit from a more clear tutorial, though, it took me a little while to figure out!
I forgive you, waifu destroyer :) Fun stuff! took some getting used to the UI. these kinds of games are always fun to sink some time into
Booze as a health item just tickles me. Funny, wish there was more content tho!
Beat it! man, I can't believe I missed this at first. Great stuff, i love pico-8. Brutally difficult and very cute—i like the sound effects too. regrettably there were a few instances where I got stuck in the wall and had to restart... otherwise, great stuff :)
Punkcake team outdoing themselves like always. beautiful and fun. my only criticism is that it doesn't fit the theme very well.
ROCK BAND
not much to say that hasn't been said - would be much better with sound. to add to that, a visual effect when you shoot and when enemies are hit would add some nice visual feedback. you've got a good starter template here, though, so i would encourage you to keep going.
Brutally hard near the end there - ranged enemies that stunlock you is absolutely sadistic design. Fun though - juice is on point and the graphical effects are very stylish for a compo game. ofc i would have added more screenshake ;) the game loop is nice. fast paced and hardcore. a bit hard to control (but mostly in the good ways). regrettable there isn't more. i also laughed when i saw the charisma stat. and when i saw the end screen. good stuff Chao, i hope you win every category. ;)
so it's Vampire Survivors on the moon. pretty nice - i like how strange it feels to move around on a sphere, and the upgrades add a lot of replayability. i think you guys did a good job packaging up a formula known to work, and it fits the theme well.
cute, FUNNY, simple, and polished. good work. for something so simple, this is genuinely enjoyable. you nailed the handling on the chicken; manoeuvring around the farmer to sacrifice the other chickens instead is tense and skill-based.
Really good concept and execution. I think you could have leaned into the "socratic" part a little more. At times Socrates reads more like an apathetic teenager, which i feel is pretty out of character, even in parody. But I like what you were going for and the highlights are very funny.
good concept, but i don't really understand how it relates to the theme. i like how your game subverts its own rules and tests your reactions.
cute art & dialogue. i didn't have a problem using the number keys like some users, but one thing I noticed was missing was the ability to skip the "typing" effect without moving on to the next line of dialog. this made restarting and trying new options a bit of a hassle. all things considered, you all did a good job and made a charming game.
glad to see you submitted again :D your compo for last LD was my favorite. graphics are the highlight of this entry. procedural animation is no joke, especially for a compo, and i give you props for that. for the small amount of content, you have two well-composed shots with a cohesive and charming artstyle. but, egads, the itch page, MY EYES! anyway this is a cute little boss-fight type experience. eventually i realized that you can essentially live forever without even using the shield, and remain at full health more or less indefinitely by mashing punch and dodging the big lasers. orbs only seem to be a problem if he throws two in a row, otherwise you'll get back to full health just by punching and dodging by the next one. not much more to say, I hope to see you in the next jam!
really funny and good microgames - i dont have much to add other than this is real polished for a jam game. kudos for packing in as much content as you did
Lmao i was not prepared. this is what a jam game should look like. The ridiculous amount of screenshake when something collides with the ship really sold the mood for me. i agree with the previous poster that the spacebar control was a little unresponsive. good stuff
visually stunning for a jam game. music is great too. this is more or less a dark souls boss fight stripped to its bare components, and i gather that was intentional. it's good! it feels that there isn't much logical consistency as to what can be blocked or not. and unfortunately, blocking the laser attack also crashed the game for me. i agree with the previous poster that it would be nice if you could just whack the worm instead of waiting for the fight to end.
@chaoseiro thanks for the feedback! yes perhaps it is a little too fast—finding the proper speed for things has been a hard design choice and I'm afraid I probably made a bad one. for the "post jam" version I will add speed options. that being said, we designed with replayability in mind, so give it another whirl when you have the time!
@miraculousmelon thank you so much!
@dokan thank you!
@cryptomnesic first thing i did once we had the idea down was to build a tool for writing "post chains" (which turned into threads) and sent it to the other people on the team. this was a pretty risky move, as there wasn't even any "gameplay" until nearly the end of day 2. but approximately 2/3 of the total dev time was spent with me writing game code while my teammates simultaneously wrote dialogue, even before any of the mechanics were implemented. in retrospect this was a really good idea because we could be making content for the game independently of the game itself. we knew it had to have a lot of writing and characters, because of the nature of the idea. still, I'm really impressed with how much quality stuff my teammates managed to write - i was very busy programming and could only make a few chains myself.
@nathanoc @noh @brachistosauro @nullval @radmccool @easyluckygem thank you all so much! @necdilzor :D i'm glad you noticed that!!! i wanted to make it feel as organic as possible
Just pushed an update that addresses many quality of life concerns :) Judges, make sure to select the zip with LD50 in the filename, as that is the "official" jam version!
VERY NICE!!! some visual feedback on the UI when you hovered/clicked buttons would be nice - it took me a bit to figure out the controls. anyway this is a fun and super replayable little game that is much more than the sum of its parts. tactical turn-based strategy with simple mechanics requiring complex decision making - this reminds me a lot of the android game Hoplite. or, yknow, chess. good stuff! I'd suggest making some of the mechanics (rockets, shields) be something you gain over time, in the form of powerups or something.
pico-8! i agree with the previous comments - the platform is very slippery and hard to stay on, and some of the physics is unintuitive - but it's still a charming game and quite polished.
