Bleeding Edge Software by HitchH1k3r 2021-10-12T03:41:00Z

Amazing!! Love the meta-narrative and bait and switch. I genuinely thought the error card was an actual game error before I clicked it.

1) For me, the most surprising part of the game was how existential it got. I'm not really one for that kind of content or storytelling (especially without much setup) but it did make for some interesting imagery and cool moments.

2) The writing describing someone completely losing their sense of self does fit the theme well, but overall the way the game presents itself, especially through the wildly changing games/mechanics sells the unstable theme the best.

3) If you count humor (which I rated the lowest) then I would say peppering your existential dread with some similarly existential jokes could do some good. But since I don't think that was exactly the point, my next lowest rating would be "fun," and I will not lie, it is entirely because of the Snake portion. The controls felt clunky and weird and I found myself somewhat frustrated at it. It also didn't contribute as much to the overall theme as obviously as things like the top-down segment, so overall it felt pretty out of place.

This is a really cool experience, made even cooler with the knowledge that it was only made by 2 people in under 72 hours. Great work!

The Legend of Error by rogual 2021-10-05T04:19:41Z

Love the art and aesthetic on this! I love when games take the "glitchy" aesthetic very literally and depict the game how glitched games actually look (sprites being drawn incorrectly, animation being weird, etc.) and this game nails that aesthetic perfectly. It seems you're already well aware of some issues with the combat, so I wont repeat them. The only thing I'll say that I haven't seen others mention... is that the game over music is way too loud!!

Amazing compo entry! :)

Unsustainable by SaraJS 2021-10-05T05:59:40Z

Really cool! RTS games usually aren't my thing but this one kept me interested and engaged. Love the art and overall aesthetic, and while the controls confused me at first the game felt very easy and satisfying to play after getting used to it. The lack of any sound is kind of a bummer, though... it could really add a lot! Overall, really good entry :)

Crumbling Down by stoppableforce 2021-10-05T02:26:12Z

game crashes on the first level for me :(

Cybotica by neowhoru 2021-10-05T03:33:57Z

This is challenging!! I like the pixel art (the background especially) and it's cool how shooting the environment breaks it apart. Could use more polish but for a 48 hour game this rocks!

Gunstable Tanks by Gus the Shark 2021-10-05T03:20:42Z

12 hours!! Wow!!! The gameplay is simple and fun, the dash mechanic adds just enough to make the basic movement so much more interesting. I like the concept of your gun breaking after a while and having to pick up a new one, either from fallen enemies or from a supply crate. For a full game, it would be interesting if enemies can have different weapon types, and when your weapon breaks and you pick theirs up you use their weapon type... just a thought. Great job!

Re:Volt by mimusangel 2021-10-05T19:59:30Z

This game goes way over my head  From the info and other comments it sounds like a cool and fun concept, but without proper tutorials or direction it's really hard to get into... It sounds like this game has a lot of complexity and moving parts though, so kudos to all of you for putting it all together in 72 hours!

Cloudfall by Diego Escalante 2021-10-12T02:50:49Z

This is nice! The art and music are super polished for a compo game, definitely the best part of it for me. It was cool seeing how the level progressed the higher up you went. While the time slow mechanic is cool, I have a few gripes with it: I don't believe it is obvious enough how the speed of the crow vs. the clouds change (for a while there I thought it did nothing but slow down time and was effectively useless) and that it is mapped to the same button as jumping. There were many times I wanted to jump immediately after landing on a platform but input a jump too early, and as a result time slowed down for a brief moment, tripping up my already-early timing and making me run off the cloud without a jump. I lost many runs to this.

That being said, having a very simple and easy-to-understand control system is admirable and my minor nitpicks are drastically outweighed by the insane quality that went into everything else about the game. Very well done!

There'll Be Hell To Play by Enya454 2021-10-05T05:24:59Z

Amazing!! I've never seen a concept like this and it was really fun! Collecting a bunch of plushies that then get used for the boss later... really cool! The boss itself was pretty hard and a little janky, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I really liked the artstyle and designs, and the flavor text for the plushies was funny and cute. Great entry!

fixOS by Suchista 2021-10-12T02:14:42Z

So cool! Solving problems using a hypothetical operating system is surprisingly fun. The most obvious criticism (and the one people have already pointed out already) is the lack of audio. In a full release, I could see there being system sounds and maybe even the game's own mp3 player program with its own songs you can play in the background... but I can't blame you for not doing that in a game you made in under 72 hours :P Amazing work, keep it up!

Gem of Stability by JakobTheQuizGuy 2021-10-05T16:22:36Z

I love this!! The art is very cute, the controls are solid and easy to understand, and the core loop is really fun and satisfying! An addicting game for sure. If one of your goals was the make an expressive character you absolutely succeeded. I love when their little legs kick super fast trying to get balance back :joy:

Love will Prevail by lesinvisible 2021-10-06T20:13:35Z

Wow, what a beautiful game! The art, music, and writing all contribute greatly to the overall atmosphere and the oppressive melancholic feeling. Simple, but effective. Great work!

Home Renos Inc. by Pincushion 2021-10-06T21:52:25Z

Fun and interesting concept! A bit hard for me to understand, though... But I got to level 3 before failing so I guess I was doing good?

The graphics are a bit plain and the controls were a bit clunky (not terrible after I got used to them though) and while there could be more sound effects the "nope" and "yea" voice lines were really funny. The audio loop was alright too. From what I can tell the systems for this game are somewhat complicated, so kudos for getting this out in 48 hours!

gone. by wafflecomposite 2021-10-04T20:45:18Z

Clever and fun! The core concept is simple and engaging (even if spamming the mouse button seems a little odd at first). I like how the game is viable on its own as an arcade-like game but develops its own funny meta-narrative over multiple attempts. I was wondering how many people would interpret the theme as "the game itself is unstable" and this pulls off that concept pretty well!

Wizards Quest by Lakea 2021-10-12T01:35:11Z

A good start! It seems you have already noted the feedback that the floors don't crumble fast enough. Conceptually it would be very interesting to form strategies around the crumbling floor, but in its current state the game plays more like a simple turn-based dungeon crawler. I would be interested in seeing a post-LD update that refines some of the ideas presented here. Otherwise, for only 17 hours this isn't half bad!

Crumbling Down by JustCallMeBB 2021-10-05T00:53:46Z

@myles-doupe Thank you! If you are ever interested in going back and trying to finish that level and want a hint, then here is one: how much glue do you need, really?

Crumbling Down by JustCallMeBB 2021-10-05T05:11:22Z

Thanks for the feedback @enya454! Looking back on it, I do regret not having an alternate control system for the glue, and I am aware of the diagonal movement exploit. Although, in my opinion, the game can be more fun if you use the exploit... Some levels you can beat without using any glue at all, and most levels you can beat very quickly (a friend of mine was bored and started speedrunning the game, it was wild)

Thank you for playing and thanks for the kind words

Crumbling Down by JustCallMeBB 2021-10-05T15:14:55Z

@sparkydoc07 @caudatecoder I have been hearing some issues with antiviruses and whatnot... I don't know what would be causing it besides the antivirus generally disliking unverified .exe files so I'm not really sure how to solve it :pensive: If you can somehow add the file as an exception to your antivirus that could work?

Noyau Instable by SparkyDoc07 2021-10-05T19:53:08Z

An interesting concept that could really be polished and fleshed out more. I didn't like it at first, but when I understood where everything was and what everything meant there was a sort of satisfying flow to the game... that doesn't help the slow moving speed and unclear direction, though. Good start, I hope you continue to make games! :)

Stack Tower Jump by hiisileiri 2021-10-05T16:37:56Z

Nice! The movement and platforming were responsive and satisfying, the concept and mechanics were well introduced and easy to understand. Platforms stopped moving in after 39 score for me though... but for 72 hours this is a great concept that with a lot more polish could be a super fun and addicting arcade game :)

Helico Pter by 3LSTMsInATrenchcoat 2021-10-05T02:45:33Z

Very challenging! It sounds like you've already gotten the feedback that the landing requirements are a little strict... the controls were tight and responsive though, it felt very good to play.

Alchemy Courier by Paroxysmal 2021-10-04T23:31:27Z

How cute! Love the gameboy aesthetic and sound effects. A bit buggy, but nothing that renders the game entirely unplayable. It's a shame this couldn't be longer, I feel like there's a lot more you could explore with this kind of platforming gimmick.

Atomic Rock Paper Scissors by lucasvb 2021-10-06T04:18:06Z

Love this! Rock paper scissors as a nearly universal concept made this really easy to pick up and understand, even without reading directions. The pixel art is very good and although the music is a tad repetitive, I don't think it's necessarily bad. I found the game oddly relaxing...

Also, I felt the need to show a gif of the most satisfying chain I got while playing :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: atomicrps.gif

Cool by KewDev 2021-10-05T02:34:46Z

Pretty fun, pretty cute! I like the pixel art! Took me a bit to get the hang of it but once I did it became very enjoyable.

TECHNUCLEAR by TheGreenWorm 2021-10-04T21:55:59Z

Amazing!! There is so much I could gush about this game and its smart design choices, like how bouncing off walls is delayed to line up with the next beat, simultaneously matching the music and making slamming into the wall feel satisfying, or how every new mechanic introduced is done so after the player has had time to get used to the previous ones and are easy to understand on their own, and the music is great, and the aesthetic is really effective despite being super simple... Definitely my favorite game in this jam so far!

New World Disorder by xpoho 2021-10-12T03:11:38Z

war is hell

What is Watt? by XOREAXEAX 2021-10-05T15:58:23Z

Neat concept! I like the aesthetic, and the music (although a tad repetitive) is appreciated. My only gripe is that it gets a bit stale after a while, more or less devolving into watching numbers and clicking the screen occasionally... but maybe there's something I'm still not understanding :P But for what it is, it's charming and interesting!

Tetrilibrium by Melancholia 2021-10-05T00:26:50Z

Cute and fun! A neat approach to the theme. I love the pixel art and music. It's a shame the game couldn't be longer, it feels like there is a lot more to explore with this concept. Honestly my biggest gripe is that if you have the mouse functionality to place pieces, why not use that same functionality to allow the player to select pieces? Many times I found myself wanting to click the piece I wanted to use only to remember that I have to select it with Q and E. Other than that, solid game! Everyone on the team should be proud!

5 Minutes by o_sim 2021-10-05T00:11:31Z

This is tough!! I'm surprised how stressful this game is without much gamefeel. I like the idea of having certain combinations of buttons having more benefit, so it's half understanding which parameters to increase or decrease while also keeping in mind options you have from your cooldown buttons to get out of a bad situation. The only things I had issue with were the text-based unit measurements. It would always take me a few seconds to read "C/s" or "bar/s" and relate that to temperature and pressure. Recognition is much faster when using colors and/or symbols, so (as an example) representing temperature with a fire or thermometer symbol would have made that easier. Although, perhaps the text measurements was meant to add to the panic and confusion, which if you're trying to encourage that atmosphere then I'm all for it!

Another issue that @squimmy pointed out is that the sprites for the on/off switches do not make it obvious enough whether it is on or off. The lack of audio is also a shame, but I can't really blame you when we only had 48 hours.

falling flamingo by butterfly 2021-10-05T01:29:18Z

This is probably the funniest game I've played so far! After a few attempts I realized the best way to keep balance was to shift slightly left and then crap to shift your weight forward, which is a hilarious concept on its own. I also like the flamingo facts whenever you lose. My only gripe is that spawn rates for fish are so low that i would run out of food and lose even though I never got an opportunity to eat any fish.

P.S. I love Fred's hat :)

Proton Pilferer vs. The Particle Police by Skyward4d 2021-10-05T07:12:24Z

This was cool! Linking a timer to your "health" and size, and the implications those changes has on the world around you, is really neat! I feel like the game didn't explore much that could be done with that concept, but I understand there's only so much you can do within the time limit. My biggest issue was the mass bar occasionally covering important areas and making it hard to see, but otherwise it was an enjoyable little game :)

Crumble by foxtrot-roger 2021-10-05T16:43:46Z

Not bad! Out of everything I would say that the movement could use some tuning, acceleration and momentum in particular felt really weird. This game definitely puts forward some ideas I haven't really seen before, and it has some good potential.

Super Stable Charger Robot by caudatecoder 2021-10-05T03:14:22Z

Cool concept! Having to choose the right path based on which skills are disabled is an interesting angle. Level design could use some work (my interact button was disabled when I got to the part with all the doors and had to just sit and wait until it came back) but for 48 hours this is pretty good :)

Hardwork Simulator by cabjhegas 2021-10-05T01:38:44Z

Fantastic and very funny! Balancing dropping letters and creating new ones was a very satisfying game loop, and the concept was really interesting. I love entries like this that get super creative with the prompt!

Super Misfire or: One Gun To Shoot Them All by ivysly 2021-10-05T05:07:08Z

Super fun, super funny, plays great! I love the weapon variety and gamefeel, I could play this for hours! My only issue is there seems to be some problems with the level generation... I loaded into a level at one point and the stairs were in a room I couldn't access :( But overall super impressive game for the compo!

Also, my favorite weapon was the banana :)

Hello Darkness. My old Friend. by Aquachain 2021-10-05T03:03:35Z

Congrats on your first jam! You should be proud of this one :) I really like the hand-drawn style and, despite some minor jank it functions well as a basic platformer. I'm not the biggest fan of some design choices though, like how when the spikes turn over they do a double-take to trick you if you try jumping on them... that and some of the springs not actually being bouncy so I would just walk off not thinking I had to jump :/ The music isn't the best, but it's probably better than no music at all. Overall this is a good start and I hope you continue to make games in the future!

The game is...Unstable by Nebiros 2021-10-04T23:45:04Z

A cool concept and a great puzzle! I didn't beat it because midway through a bug removed all my letters :( For your first game jam and under 48 hours, this is pretty good.

Tetromino Stack by Myles Doupe 2021-10-04T21:33:25Z

"Tetris with gravity and physics" isn't exactly a new concept, but I can't say I've ever seen this take on it before. Simple, challenging, pretty fun, and surprisingly addicting (I spent like 20 more minutes on this game than I thought I would lmao). I like how the constantly spawning tetriminos force the player to add to the stack quickly, but if this were a full game I would suggest having a second mode where the next tetrimino spawns with a button press so the player can control it. I found the process of carefully stacking pieces to be strangely relaxing, but that feeling would quickly turn to panic when I realized that 3 pieces were already spawned and the 4th is going to fall off

Core of Color by qthree 2021-10-04T21:11:27Z

LOVE the aesthetic! It's a shame there isn't a high score system or anything, but as it stands this is a pretty little game. Some relaxing background music or sound effects would do it a lot of good though :relaxed:

Fractured by Baldurs 2021-10-06T04:23:10Z

I liked this game a lot! Definitely one of the better feeling platformers I've played this jam. The only things I would suggest changing is having the camera zoomed out a bit more (dashing may as well be blindly shooting off face first into whatever is off-screen) and some of the glitches were a bit more obtrusive than they were fun or interesting. The glitchy visuals and the error pop-ups were really good and clever in my opinion, but the inverted controls or flipped screen was more irritating than challenging...

Besides that, the pixel art is pretty good and the music is lowkey a total banger. I also really liked the ending!
