This is really fun :) Does it keep track of high scores anywhere? I got up to 12

myles-doupe 2021-10-03 04:59

No high score tracking at this point. Only screenshots. :) I'm glad you like it!

bigyellow 2021-10-03 05:07

I like it ! Nice Design of Gameplay with physical-engine. Very cute

2021-10-03 06:45

Nice little game, just felt like after I played it a few times it got old.

thacuber 2021-10-03 13:29

Haha, nice, reminds me of another game i've played before.

quasar098 2021-10-03 22:15

great! 2 problems though: sometimes the tetrominos on the right fall because of bad spawning patterns the second is that the force sometimes sends the tetromino flying with very little mouse movement

good overall

myles-doupe 2021-10-04 00:01

The blocks falling on the right is intentional, to keep the pressure up. The other issue, I am not skilled enough to fix at the moment. :)

delightfullymad 2021-10-04 00:08

Excellent take on a classic, and very fun. would be cool as an app game :)

nick-barrash 2021-10-04 00:40

Ah yes, like my game but much more polished and original, great entry! Enjoyed the moments when I placed a block and it didn't quite go where I wanted it and then I tried to use other blocks to hammer the block into place and I just end up launching my tower to kingdom come.

myles-doupe 2021-10-04 00:59

@nick-barrash I enjoyed your game more than mine.

3lstmsinatrenchcoat 2021-10-04 03:06

This isn't the first stacking game I've seen so far, and it definitely won't be the last either, but it does stand out as a particularly minimalist & polished version of the concept. It's kinda like the opposite of Tetris.

o8pc 2021-10-04 03:10

This was a fun one. It's kind of addictive to beat a high score, so you definitely got points on that front. This could be a really fun mobile game! I had some difficulty with the blocks being able to phase through each other but it's not really that big of a deal if you are careful. Overall, I enjoyed this one. Keep making games, I believe in you!

taximan981 2021-10-04 03:14

It is super addicting, after so many attempts I got 11.1m and the seratonine is awesome, nice work!!!!

myles-doupe 2021-10-04 03:35

@o8pc I had a choice between two physics bugs: the blocks being able to go inside other blocks (controlled by the player) and blocks randomly sliding out from underneath other blocks. I wish I could have fixed them both, but I chose to go with the player-controlled jank. Thank you for the feedback!

@taximan981 @3lstmsinatrenchcoat I'm glad you enjoyed it!

mordrick 2021-10-04 06:34

Nice to see another physics stacker game here! If you have any questions about the Unity2D physics engine or problems with it, odds are I have the same problems or I've overcome them. It was quite a hassle on my side to program it ^^.

To your game

The idea is simple, yet it challenges the player to try and try again, which is always nice. The graphics are basic but suit the game overall. Sound wise I love that you too took the time to add the little clacking sound on collision. That adds a lot! I had to get used to the fact, that the blocks stick to the mouse with one click and are released with a second click at the beginning. But once I got that it was very cool.

My best so far is 16.1!

XD - I literally learned NOTHING from my game :)

I knew that someone was going to make some kind of Tetris based game and you didn't disappoint. I really like the flip on a format that by now everyone knows. Making the highest stack might not be the most intuitive due to Tetris's goal but it makes for a much more interesting game. Rally liked this. Well done.

kewdev 2021-10-04 08:25

Tetris with extra steps? sign me up! Amazing entry and a nice twist on the original tetris.

theviraldragon 2021-10-04 15:33

I kept knocking the blocks with my own mouse drag. What if tetris had a physics engine. Nice concept.

2021-10-04 16:29

shitty tetris

myles-doupe 2021-10-04 16:30

@mordrick @n-o-games @kewdev Thank you for playing my game!

@theviraldragon it is a common problem. I get so twitchy I'd overshoot and send half of my stack flying.

myles-doupe 2021-10-04 16:31

@basik-kent I aim to please

weenie-walker-games 2021-10-04 20:40

Very fun game! Will definitely come back and try for a higher score!

bootak 2021-10-04 21:02

THAT is a way more theme-fitting version of Tetris then my take! I see you did the research and painted pieces correctly. Well done! Oh, how wonderfully frustrating this game is! That was a great fun to play this.

justcallmebb 2021-10-04 21:33

"Tetris with gravity and physics" isn't exactly a new concept, but I can't say I've ever seen this take on it before. Simple, challenging, pretty fun, and surprisingly addicting (I spent like 20 more minutes on this game than I thought I would lmao). I like how the constantly spawning tetriminos force the player to add to the stack quickly, but if this were a full game I would suggest having a second mode where the next tetrimino spawns with a button press so the player can control it. I found the process of carefully stacking pieces to be strangely relaxing, but that feeling would quickly turn to panic when I realized that 3 pieces were already spawned and the 4th is going to fall off

myles-doupe 2021-10-04 21:46

@bootak Your game is still more of a technical accomplishment. I just slapped some rigidbodies on some blocks and called it a day. ;)

@justcallmebb A chill mode is definitely something I plan to add when the voting is finished. :) Glad you enjoyed it!

binaryprinciple 2021-10-05 00:14

Good idea! Jenga tetris. I enjoyed the physics and I would recommend adding some background music to keep you in the mood, hopefully something a bit chaotic to add more tension.

badmuchachob 2021-10-05 00:26

reminds me a little bit of an old iOS game called "stack the states". nice work!

schuster 2021-10-05 00:27

Nice game, the stacking feels good and I like the music

myles-doupe 2021-10-05 00:59

@binaryprinciple I ran out of time to make any music for it, and I'm no composer. When rating is finished I may find some music for it. Glad you liked it!

@badmuchachob @schuster Thanks for playing and giving feedback!

kalevrk 2021-10-05 01:43

Fun concept and nice execution! At first I wished that there was a way to rotate the piece that you selected, but then I liked how the angle of the piece changes depending on where you clicked on it.

simpathey 2021-10-05 03:31

My best was 15.1, great mechanic cant wait to see it expanded upon.

tattomoosa 2021-10-05 03:36

This is really good! The concept is fantastic. My high score was about 15. I liked how you needed to be strategic about which point you grabbed the block from.

potkirland 2021-10-05 03:37

great fun. i dont know if i liked building or yeeting the piece out of this world  can easily become a full fledged game!

myles-doupe 2021-10-05 03:37

@kalevrk I am going to update it post jam to give the option for manual rotation and a "chill" mode. Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed it!

@simpathey Thank you very much for playing my game on stream!

myles-doupe 2021-10-05 03:39

@tattomoosa Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you very much for playing!

@potkirland yeeting is fun, on occasion. Thanks for the encouragement!

zettabit 2021-10-05 04:00

This game was short but sweet. It did seem a little bit difficult, but that may just because the grab-based rotation point takes some getting used to. This definitely has potential to be a cool post jam game.

myles-doupe 2021-10-05 04:19

@zettabit It does take some getting used to. There will definitely be a post jam version. I am excited that I made something that people played and enjoyed. :) Thank you very much for playing!

evgeniya-zapolnova 2021-10-05 18:34

Cool Tetris game! I like this physics 😀

petturtle 2021-10-05 18:39

I like how you have to think about were to pick up the pieces, but I wish the next piece would appear after I placed the current one.

lawrence 2021-10-05 18:51

This was very fun actaully!

lawrence 2021-10-05 19:01

This is my best 😅

myles-doupe 2021-10-05 19:28

@lawrence you are an insane person

unicorn-studios 2021-10-05 22:53

@Lawrence is godly, I couldn't get past 8! Fun game, with some more polish I could see myself getting lost in trying to make a huge tower! Great use of theme as well.

javicoder 2021-10-06 09:10

I liked it a lot! It is challenging, fun and addictive. the truth is that I had the same idea, but I wanted to do something in 3d  Then I rethought and did a reverse tetris haha. Good work!

melektaus 2021-10-06 16:19

A pure addict, simple concept but challenging as hell. Nice one! (my PB is 25.2) @lawrence daaaamn :grimacing:

jackaljk 2021-10-06 20:30

This answers "if tetris had physics", nice concept! The placed blocks are unstable in a probably unintended way as well, they have the tendency to phase through each other but otherwise it's fun!

diego-escalante 2021-10-07 03:56

Dang, I'm not very good at this game, I could only get it to 10.1 high. I thought that was pretty good until I saw the screenshots from others. Although I'm bad at the game, I can appreciate the cool concept! The idea is so simple that you can start playing right away, but has enough room for the player to develop their skill and own playstyle. And the game plays well. I like that the pieces pivot around the place where you grabbed them, gives you another layer of control. Nice work on this game!

flywolfe 2021-10-08 02:37

Man, some people are stacking these so high. I haven't even manage 20 yet haha. but the game is super cool! I had a lot of fun stacking them with the physics simulation. It's also pretty cool how they stick to the mouse and can be flung around. Awesome job!

richnou 2021-10-08 11:13

I also built my game on Tetraminos, but not at all the gameplay... Interesting to see your approach, and I really like its simplicity. It's works very well!

proxy-games 2021-10-09 05:58

I really enjoyed this game. It very much feels like it knows what it wants to do, and sets out to do just that. It is Tetris with physics and it works well. The weight of the piece pivoting around where you grabbed it is a very interesting touch that makes the game a bit more difficult. The graphics are simplistic, but it's Tetris so it's not like too much can be changed there. I do wish that there was more in terms of sound, though. Other than the block placing sound, there isn't much of anything here, and it makes the game feel a little less lively. Other than that, it's a well-executed idea. Great job.

Also, @lawrence I have to say you are an absolute madman for getting that score. Could barely even manage 12.1 myself.

elysiagriffin 2021-10-11 15:12

drop tetraminos and dont let any fall. This is really cool. Great aesthetics and great gameplay. I wish for a version where dropping blocks didnt kill you it just set you back maybe lowering points or height or something. As is though its really well done. Nice work!

macaroni-dev 2021-10-13 02:33

Really great idea with the Tetris blocks needing to be balanced instead of matched. And well executed on top of that.

myles-doupe 2021-10-15 14:43

@evgeniya-zapolnova @unicorn-studios @javicoder @melektaus @diego-escalante @flywolfe @richnou @proxy-games @macaroni-dev Thank you for playing my game and commenting!

@elysiagriffin Thank you for playing my game on stream! It was a blast watching you two play it! If you're interested in "Chill Mode" where you can go at your own pace and basically play forever, the beta for that is up on the itch page (windows download only until the jam is over).

@jackaljk Yes, the physics definitely need another pass. :)

@petturtle @fabdynamic @justcallmebb There is a post-jam version up on itch with the first pass at "chill mode" with the option to manually rotate the bricks, if you're interested (windows download only until the jam is over). :)
