Ok I got a 9 before I read the instructions carefully enough to understand what those other squares were doing lol. Back at it again to see if I can plot out my movements better ... well ... nope! lol I got an 8 and a 6. Great clever new mechanic for a game. I love it. Thank you!
Great work! I liked squashing the bugs and the controls were good. Thanks for making the game and attempting to give us some insight into what it is like.
I had fun getting through these levels and making cool tracks for the balls. I am actually amazed that you made such an extensive and excellent in-game-level-editor (basically) to allow the player to make these tracks in just two days. I would have been hard pressed to build a single track and get the balls rolling and zipping around the tracks but you made it so the player can move around the world click on the place she wants to build on and with a ghost see what she will build and rotate with right mouse button. Thats quite an accomplishment if you ask me. Thanks for making this for us!
Wow this is a really cool game and I'm impressed with your use of LibGDX. I could be wrong but I suspect some of the devs grew up in the 80s and early 90s based not only on the obvious homage to the 80s via the theme but also the style of the text screens including the bouncing text and stuff which reminds me of games on the Amiga :) I actually loved your description of homage vs clone in the game and feel like the term clone is used dismissively far too often. This is a really cool game and great work for the jam!
My only feedback would be that I'm super used to the up arrow being rotate that I can't not accidentally hit it but in this game it drops the piece. If it had a configuration for that I think it would be excellent and I think a lot of other people who are used to that control scheme would agree.
Fantastic work! You've got me wanting to look into LibGDX more than I already did.
P.S. Was it easier or harder than you thought it would be?
Update: For anyone running the HTML5 version on Mac: it works perfectly in Chrome but the audio doesnt play in Safari for some reason.
This is classy and totally has a great 80s Amiga feel to me. its actually sophisticated especially for being a 2 button control scheme. The game is full of character and charisma and polish (even in the menus and presentation at the beginning) and I'm really impressed. Oh and did I mention it was lots of fun? This could be an NES game (but graphics are better here). Way to go!
This was fantastic. I can imagine having tons of fun with user created maps (which like this map could just have one or two textures so be easy to make) and playing this kind of forever to try to get the top score (most loops or fastest time or both) I loved the controls and the graphics. For feedback I would say once the enemy parts have landed and are static remove their colliders so it doesnt affect the players momentum (kind of tripping up the player). Let me know if you want some ideas for how to generate maps because I'm learning about something called Wave Function Collapse that might be useful for starting points. I love how the enmies blew up too. Great work!
This is so cool, I immediately saw the missile command inspiration but with this really cool story and setting surrounding it. I actually love games which put classic gameplay mechanics in new surroundings and contexts. I like all the cool action stuff going on on screen all the time.
my mouth is hanging open. this is one of the coolest smoothest experiences I've had in the compo and one that most perfectly captures the theme and is super fun to play and thrilling when you figure out what to do because its so damn mysterious. * YOu dont know why and it doesnt matter but you are filled with awe and wonder since now you dont know around what corner will be another inexplicable mystery. * Plus the aesthetic is so appealing and its just fun to run and jump like this. could this ever be a full game and then some. * I imagine like metroid many different tileset environments and each level is like this whole game where it starts out seeming pretty straightforward but loops, and then you finally find an exit, but perhaps you have to go through the loop a number of times for some lighting to change and then certain other triggers happen. * Wow I love the style here. * I'd say some tweaking to make the player move and shoot little more fluid like metroid, and make the enemies knock back when hit (they just kept coming which meant you had to use a retreating strategy of sorts). * Also gamepads work on this game even in html 5! (well they are advertised to ... lets find out! yup it sure does!)) * On mac this doesnt run in Safari (it doesnt finish loading - usually that means theres a compression problem and I think if you search for that you'll find several solutions).
What a winner this is. I loved it and this is one of the most underrated games in the compo.
Tips: use a gamepad if possible. Keep enemies just off the edge of the screen. first stand and shoot fast, if you dont see sparks (which indicates youre hitting something) jump and shoot. When going up dont try to shoot them lure them to the side and juke to the other side. When going up dont jump out of the hole (you'll get hit lots) without jumping as high as you can on the side to see whats up there and lure them down. keep trying and look for things to change and you'll win eventually!
About the spoiler: My spoiler is so vague that you will have to try it several times to even see what it means but if you have figured out the core mechanic and you are stuck then this might help and you'll probably understand what I'm talking about here.
**SPOILER ALERT** ~~If anyone wants a hint heres a real vague hint: right left (change) right (change), up left up, right (a bit) left (change) right and down~~
A cool unity game that works perfectly on Mobile (better than on desktop actually) and has a cool looping mechanic to make points I got 101.59s and 9842 score with 900 top star. Next time i got 15467 in 25.6s with 1150 top star!
@nobleboy I was staying in the middle and thought that too! It took me about 90s not getting any score to figure it out lol
Works great on mac too. In the format of a Java jar I tried opening it with terminal but then I found out that I was overcomplicating things: I just right click->open->open (on mac catalina) and it worked perfectly! I love the narrative style and character of the tutorial "I know youre the boss but if it was on me I would build a metal refinery first" Well my colony died. I think its cool how theres a strategy or like survival game in here and I love the art style all around. Thank you!
P.S. What linux tools did you use to make this?
I feel like I could totally play this exact gameplay a ton, in a larger game for the future if it had like per level goals. This is really cool. Nice work!
@ciaranw Level 24 same! It took me an hour or two playing casually while watching tv.
This is one of the best if not the best game in the compo. The presentation is amazing and I had so much fun. Super addictive and this could absolutely be a full game! Also I'll add that its instantly accessible and understandable and I love how the animation moves forward and rewinds. The voxel art is classy and lovely too.
@rubixnoob13 #24 took me a long time but was really satisfying to finish! One cool thing about this game is it stores your progress so I hope you do come back and try again. I believe in you and that you can get it sooner or later and let me know if you want a clue :)
@ismael-rodriguez I know right? Congrats for winning it! I'm proud I did too (even if it took me quite a while :) )
@xilentor You deserved it :) This is a gem of a game and there was no game more deserving of getting to 20 ratings. I'm glad you got it and thanks again for making it!
This has great graphics kind of like Fzero super fx chip scaling! I loved teh controls. Its such a cool concept you have to hit the blue side of the rift. And it became kind of a racing game with a purpose and a goal which I loved. Thanks for making it!
**MacOS Version Works Great** Almost every mac game in the jam required me to do this: `Double-click -> Esc` then `Right-click -> Open -> Open` to get around the security of the mac gatekeeper. After that it worked perfectly!
I couldn't really figure it out but nevertheless somehow got **my high score of 3316** I love rhythm games and love the concept here and the visual appeal. A countdown to begin would go a long way and I couldn't figure out how the sound matched with the graphical beat so perhaps a heartbeat rhythm instead of a gallop or something. Cool game and I think its even more cool that you streamed it!
Wow I LOVE The controls here! wasd to move and cursors to attack in that cardinal. Its perfect and makes you have to use strategy you cant just hold that direction but have to time it right too. Animation and Sound are betw Atari and C64 and work great. Its really fun and I would love to see a full adventure RPG like this Collision is a bit off like I dont think it should include the players head.
**Mac version works great** Almost every mac game in the jam required me to do this: `Double-click -> Cancel` then `Right-click -> Open -> Open` to get around the security of the mac gatekeeper but after that it worked perfectly!
I found this game real enjoyable and it even surprised me several times with how interesting it got. I liked trying to remember which way to go.
Some feedback for the future: 1. Trying to beat the time to get a high score on each level could be a new mechanic 2. Also picking up optional bonus coins in difficult spots could be a new mechanic for advanced players 3. @ividusk I had the same thought about the space bar or enter key would have been great for the next level / try again buttons.
Thanks for making this and good luck in the compo!
P.S. I really like your blog (bookmarked it) and the [code can bring us together](https://happycoding.io/blog/code-can-bring-us-together) post is as relevant now as it was 4 years ago.
Hi Thanks for making a game for the Ludum Dare! I got it working on Mac by using the usual workaround for gatekeeper: Double click -> cancel->right click->open->open and got to play with a duck fighting some crocs! Unfortunately the duck lost the fight every time. :) This would probably work on mac or linux too without any modification fyi. Can anyone confirm that?
I got it working in my previous VICE install:
I renamed the .prg to LD47.prg 1. Hit F12 and in the menu set the disk drive to not load a file but read from a directory instead (this is several settings changes) * Drive -> Drive 8 Settings -> Drive 8 Type -> Directory * Drive -> Drive 8 Settings -> Drive 8 Dir Settings -> Choose Directory 2. Then setup the joystick (from the F12 settings menu): * Machine Settings -> Joystick Settings -> Joystick Device 2 -> Keyset 1 * Machine Settings -> Define Keysets -> (then for up down left right and fire assign the arrow keys and x for fire or whatever fire key you want) 2. LOAD "LD47.prg",8,1 3. RUN
Did it have any audio or music? If so my emulator didnt seem to play that.
I have a lot of late 1980s C64 experience and quite a bit with various emulators so that took about 15min to figure out and I'm proud I got it working.
P.S. This was on Mac Catalina
I'm enjoying this game. I'm impressed with how the cursor snaps to the joints and while I can imagine how to do that in modern environments how to do that on the C64 blows my mind, in fact how to do any of this on the C64 blows my mind!
** High Score 464 **
This is cool. I really like that the map is so simple. having buttons simplifies things and makes us use our imagination in different ways. I imagine that it could be a great way to lay out a huge world. Thank you for making this.
This is really good, the graphics are so clean and so is the interface. Thanks for making this!
@bernhard wow you got 400! Nice! I didnt really believe I could collect them all (but I'm glad I was wrong)
Holy crap this is a 5 star game. Presentaiton is #1 Concept is #1 controls are #1 I love how fluid the added controls are like pushing forward to pause is perfect. For feedback ideally there should be a separate button to switch directions since in this case its backwards which ever way the front of your snake is going and that means theres never a button for that function theres always a calculation in the brain which is confusing. The presentation of your page here is top notch too (especially with that timelapse: classy!)
All I had to do is the usual `Double click -> Cancel -> Right Click -> Open -> Open` to get around the security of the mac gatekeeper. I've had to do that with every other jam game and after that it worked great!
Hi! Wow this game is so good. I love it when I find gems like this: a perfect sized super polished jam game with enormous potential for being something bigger and more. * I finished all 10 laps but not before losing a few times. * I had to luck out and let everyone else wreck before I could complete 8/10 of the laps lol. * the controls and driving physics for this kind of game are absolutely perfect. * I had more fun playing on my mechanical keyboard than on my mac laptop keyboard because of the travel and feel of the keys and how hard I could press so that my brain can imagine that pushing hard is making me turn faster * I can imagine this game being fleshed out to be a party game competitor to that new game `Fall Guys Ultimate Knockout`
Anyway I really enjoyed myself thank you so much.
I have MacOS Catalina and lots of apps and games have been having problems running and this one works great with these two steps which only take a few seconds: 1. In a terminal `chmod +x TrackDay_1_0_Mac.app/Contents/MacOS/*` 2. Right click and select open from the menu then select open.
The first step fixes the generic error "This app cannot be opened" it just needs some inner files to be executable that aren't by default thats all. The second step gets around the gatekeeper that keeps the mac from running random executables downloaded from the internet.
After that it worked perfectly and is a ton of fun. Great work and thank you! TrackDay_1_0_Mac Screen Shot 2020-10-04 at 8.18.28 PM copy.png
@remzo I'm glad I tried this
1. The skidmarks dont show in the editor either but 2. I'm really impressed with this Unity Project. Its impeccably well organized and inspires me to organize my code better in future projects. 3. Somehow there are no warnings ... as much as I shouldn't abide warnings in my projects it seems like they always crop up anyway either due to my carelessness or something I can't explain or dont understand. Its notable to me that there are none here :) UPDATE: I realized later that there are a few harmless warnings when you first load it but thats still relatively very clean.
You've made this out of nothing without bloat or confusion and thats really cool.
@remzo OMG I got it! I pulled the same source up on windows and couldn't find anything different in code, console, breakpoints or anything so I suspected it might be in the build settings and it worked!
Change this in project settings and Skidmarks show up in the mac build.
HowToGetSkidmarksWorkingOnMac.png
MacSkidmarks.png
Caveats: 1. I haven't tried changing that setting on windows and building for mac but I believe it will work. I have only tried building for mac on mac. 2. I suspect (but haven't tested) that unity 2020 might have fixed this - it might be a bug with unity 2019 beta metal support for mac or something (crossing fingers) 3. I have a build I can send if that would be helpful 4. If you want to make a new build for mac and want me to test it out I'd be happy to.
@remzo Mac version 1.01 works great now with Skidmarks and everything! I bet it was jarring having spent so long to get skidmarks working and then see my original screenshot with no skidmarks haha. It was so fun I didnt even notice. I'm glad you got it working.
Screen Shot 2020-10-05 at 4.49.03 PM.png
Wow the visual aesthetic on this game is through the roof retro-amazing. And I can't believe that its about training AI! I tried to get my best agent to run to the end but it never showed up (probably the same problem the other people are experiencing). You probably know this already but if you have time you can fix bugs and re upload them and its still a valid submission to the compo. Give me a buzz here if you have any fixes for us and thanks for making this!
Update: Also the source link is broken. I was thinking about grabbing a copy and seeing if I could figure out what was wrong :) Let me know if I can help.
**Mac version**: For this you have to follow a few steps (at least on Mac Catalina) 1. Make a new folder 2. copy the zip into that folder 3. Unzip the app 4. rename the folder to be "SpaceSpiral.app" or something like that with .app at the end.
I got it running but its completely different than the HTML5 game which I couldn't figure it out either.
**Web version**: Unfortunately I couldn't figure this out but I like the spiral and I'm glad you submitted a game to the Ludum Dare! Thanks!
Cool game! I like it and got to the last level, almost figured it out before my browser decided to reload the page d'oh! Update: I ended up beating it! Great game! And wow ... 8hrs! You + Puzzlescript is an impressive combo. Will have to try my hand at that someday :)
This is one of the best! I love the puzzles and am looking forward to more someday from @staircase27a who made a great game here. Several of them really took me a while in a good way. Thank you!
The sounds and bouncing cubes are super satisfying! **191.17s to break out of the loop** :)
I really liked this! Boy the graphics are amazing you've got that aspect down perfect and I hope to be as good at getting the visual aesthetic this great. Great work!
Oh no I couldn't get out of the first room. Darn. Do you have any tips for a newbie?
A bit of feedback: for some reason it won't even run on my Mac Catalina "Not supported on this type of mac". Looks cool though thanks for making a game for us!
@thedarkmagi Thanks for pointing that out. I had exactly the same experience with both links and am using Mac Catalina and safari (and Chrome doesnt work either).
I wish I could give the visuals an 11/10 or something because they are the coolest 80s looking synthwave visuals and I love them. With a little tweak on the controls this one would be really great.
@kevinworkman how odd! I'm sorry it does that for you. It sometimes does it to me but as you expected when I click into the game it doesnt do that anymore. Let me go add a workaround for that problem by adding a different key, maybe shift or x. brb.
@kevinworkman Update: V1.01 is up on itch.io with a devlog explaining how I added shift and x as input options (space bar still works too). That should be a workaround for the bug and I hope you enjoy the game!
@nick-barrash Thank you so much for playing the game and for your feedback. I am glad you saw depth in it, I did too and I appreciate your words very much.
@pizzasgood OMG thats a GREAT best time! thank you for playing it and for trying it twice, and especially for the feedback and coming back to leave a comment with your best time. You rock! I really liked what you said "The beautiful sort of simplicity" that makes me really happy. :)
@smilewood I appreciate your comment so much. Once I figured out what this game could be I started working on it but I couldn't put into words what was compelling about it and you have put it beautifully in your first paragraph. Thank you! You are completely right about sounds and especially a sound for lifting off from the planets would be great for this game. I appreciate what you see in this game and that you played it and came back to comment on it. Thank you again!
@mikoziq Thank you for playing this and coming back to leave a comment! hey I haven't heard that joke but now I'm interested could you give me a clue or a link about it?
@evogengames oh wow thank you for playing and commenting and for providing feedback about gravity and I think you’re right that it’s not clear and for those who are interested: it takes all planets mass and distance into account and each planet has a somewhat randomized mass which is proportional to the size but not defined by the size so the planets mass to size could use some balance for a future version and I appreciate you pointing that out. Thank you for the congratulations too!
@amin-jk000 Wow thanks for playing the game and for stopping by to leave a comment!
@remzo Thats excellent feedback and I think you're right about the gravity/size ratio: thats something I will need to balance in future versions. Fortunately the way I ended up programming it theres a universal gravitational constant and I should be able to increase that to improve the balance between gravity and the rocket. Thank you for the kind words and for playing and stopping in to drop a comment :)
@kevinworkman great feedback thank you and I'm really glad it worked. I hadn't really thought about spacebar spamming but had hoped that whatever a player did they would find that it was ultimately faster to plot their launches out a little bit. More variety between levels? Definitely! Thanks
@fussenkuh Thank you so much for playing it! I see what you mean! yes after 10 levels it tells you how long it took, but I like your idea too and thats a great one for a future game. There also wasn't any audio which further contributed to the lack of feedback to the player. I especially like the words you used for the level transitions. Thank you so much for your feedback!
@doug-graham Wow thanks for playing the game and stopping by to leave a comment! I wonder why you dont see your final time! I'm sorry about that I'll give it a shot soon and see if it happens to me. Thank you again for the kind words!
I just released an update (V1.03) which fixes the problem with the end screen.
__Description of the fix:__ V1.0 had an end screen after the 10th level which gives you a final time and also had a level complete message between levels. Unfortunately through carelessness on my part I had disabled it while trying to fix thing for V1.01 (thats the version where I fixed the space bar problem by adding the x and left shift keys). This update restores both the end screen (with time) and the level complete message.
Apologies to everyone who played the game without the original end screen which is at least: @fussenkuh @doug-graham @deedz and @jimbly I appreciate you playing it nevertheless and stopping by to leave a comment.
To confirm that it now shows a final time when you beat the 10th level, I personally played the game in its entirety just now after it was [uploaded to Itch.io](https://fabdynamic.itch.io/populatio) and I got a **pretty decent time! 445.66**
Screen Shot 2020-10-05 at 11.56.24 PM.png
@deedz Hey thanks for coming by and dropping off some kind words. you are right it totally needs some sounds. Since you played it I fixed the win screen to have a timer btw. Also I found this really cool game called DeedzLoop (yours obviously ;) ) which was a lot of fun and I just got addicted to it for like 20 min! Party on!
@bootak Oh wow thank for those kind words. I appreciate that you said it was fun, challenging and interesting that warms my heart. Thats a great score too you did awesome!
P.S. Great pun lol!
@mar3k great ideas. Thank you so much for playing and stopping by to comment!
@spacemonkey oh wow thats a bunch of really cool ideas you've got there. I hadn't thought of chain reactions at all but yeah that would be really cool! and I would love to discuss VR! I've got a few rigs here and love it so much. DM me on twitter @johnmcgarey sometime (or let me know and we can find some other way to keep in touch).
Wowk @ethan-alexander-shulman you got 415? I'm impressed! Thats a great score and better than what I got last time. You're right about the last levels, although I'm hoping someone can find ways to strategically optimize your launches to get through it quicker. I appreciate you playing the game through to the end and am glad you had fun :)
@neragoth Wow thank you I'm flattered and happy that you had fun with it!
@mutuware @enderr42 @obi-one Thank you for playing the game and for swinging by to leave a comment!
@the-enigma omg I didnt even notice that about the second level. It is conceivable that they are all like that because I didnt think to test for that at all lol. thank you for playing and stopping by to leave a comment.
@matchamaze Thank you! I tried to imply that in the description but it wasn't clear enough I just now changed it so in the first paragraph of the description it now says there are 10. One player i know got to level 10 and thought it was just infinitely generating levels and gave up ... so close! For that reason and because you brought it up too I think in the post-jam version I will probably label the levels while they are loading or maybe put some announcement at the beginning about how many there are per galaxy or something. Thank you again!
@piturnah Oh thats awesome I'm glad you liked it. The shine came about pretty quickly and I'm glad it was as fun for you as it was for me. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment! P.S. Nice score!!!
@neowedge Good point. Maybe a hard mode with a lose condition is in order for the post jam version. Maybe with certain planets that can't be landed upon or you die, or maybe if you hit the edge of the screen you die ... any thoughts? Thank you so much for your ideas and for playing and for stopping by to leave your good ideas! P.S. I also love space gravity but have never done anything with it before this project. Now I will do more :)
@cogcomp Thank you for playing! I appreciate that you said that it was addictive enough to overcome the challenge. Also thanks for stopping by to leave a comment!
@kantieno I'm really glad you enjoyed it! You are right it does take some getting used to. Thank you so much and thanks for stopping by to drop off a comment here.
@matchamaze Wow thats a great idea. Not only would it address the issue of not knowing how much is left, I love those ideas like a branched map. The save idea would be valuable too. Thank you so much for stopping by to leave a comment with your excellent ideas. :)
@meskaline Thank you for playing it and leaving that nice comment and feedback.
* There are some wonderful game play innovations here: * enemy heads turn into points which combine and then you kick that point block around and then * the point blocks are what unlocks doors for different amounts of points. * The graphics are great. * The shooting is good, * its pretty bloody for a voxel game the blocks drip blood. * I think it should say like "hit escape or space to play" to remove the UI at the beginning and let you have mouse look automatically.
Thanks for making this game. I also loved hearing about how necessity helped you innovate several of the key gameplay mechanics. Awesome!
OMG I loved this so much. I timed it and I spent about 25min on it.
* I loved the style and the gameplay mechanic * I'm really happy you didnt punish us by starting us over because I absolutely would have quit and was about to the second time I failed on the boss. * I really liked it though and kept going * The zombies gameplay I loved and could memorize way longer patterns for later levels and would love doing it * The ghosts were straightforwardly tricky, * The bats were messing with my brain (I understand it 100% logically but in the heat of gameplay it was really difficulty) * I never got the hang of the boss just kept getting one hit in and dying and finally winning!
For the record, personally, I dont want a visual mode. that would just distract me, of course as an option that would be totally fine (I would turn it off though). I love finding games that are perfect size for a jam and still have lots of potential to make into a fuller game. Thinking ahead to a full game I would want/need more time spent on easier enemies and a more gradual learning curve building to the difficulty of the boss.
Finally if the buzzer when you get a wrong was different either quieter or a little click instead of a tone (or maybe just visual) I would have had more fun and success with the game especially the bats and the boss, but as it is when I made a mistake the error sound wiped out all of the notes in my head and I didnt stand a chance of recovering.
What fun. Thank you so much for making this.
**17180** My spouse left me unfortunately. Does that mean I lose or win? I thought I did great at mowing the lawn and bought lots of gifts :)
When I was done playing I just let the awesome music play for 10 min. its so chill and awesome.
It looks like I didn't get the good ending lol. the promise of eternal life wasn't for me :) I checked the solution and will have to try it again to get the good ending. Well done this is a cool game. I've played with inform a bit but never had good luck. Was this your first inform game? Thanks for making it!
One really cool mechanic I like from this is that you have to buy even the most basic features like shooting a gun from your ship. I'm still trying to save up for the 50 upgrade. I love your sense of humor in the ads and the presentation. The only feedback I can think of is the window size is too large by default.
Question: I got 51 coins but couldn't buy anything. Did I miss something or is this a real iPhone app simulator (where crap like that actually happens)? :)
This is like gauntlet or something (thats a compliment coming from me). * I love the level goals. I love the clever gameplay mechanic. I love the scale and fighting speed. * It looks like Safari Mac has no sound which is true for about half of HTML5 games I've been playing. * Feedback (nothing critical): 1. Recommend show some graphical idnication of damage (like little element particles fly off) when the loop is getting hit by its vulnerable element and show an indication of not being damaged otherwise (like a shiny shine). 2. Recommend show on the HUD what weapon beats what somehow (or at least for the one you have equipped) 3. Recommend show which weapon you have equipped on the hud. 4. Recommend show an indication of when you can switch to that weapon like a little blip with a shaded circle radius around the base.
Wow I couldnt stop playing and I beat it. What a blast. I got through all four layers of the loop that I was stuck in. #underrated.
I'm impressed with the TIC80 wireframe. It reminds me of the Commodore 64. I had lots of fun playing it and it could grow into a full game which I love finding in these jams. I thought the clicking should just be click anywhere on the screen to activate the next one because it was a bit too picky about where I clicked, or maybe keyboard control. No matter its a great impressive entry. Thanks!
This is the most underrated game in the comp. Its super hard to believe this is a one man job (I have no actual doubts its just totally amazing). Its a whole robot programming sim with cute pixel graphics and narrators and a story and huge human characters and lore. wow. Runs great in safari on the mac. Really cool sort of chiptune NES or TG16 music going on too. OMG There are even upgrades and unlockable robot technologies OMG. And then you get to retry every level until you beat it (perfect) , plus its not just programming like "here are your commands" but actually "here are some of your commands and they are constantly changing and you have to pick them up at the right times" and omg its got a sense of humor: "Wow congratulations on making so far in this unrigged competition" lol (sorry about all of the omg and lol I'm just really impressed :) )
Thanks for making this game and reminding me about heaps. Do you like it?
this could be a dual stick shooter too almost without touching it at all I love the graphics style and lighting and everything! the only feedback I can think of is the controls sensitivity but I know you addressed that with the 1-9 setting. it still felt just a little bit 'off' to me somehow but overall this was a great entry. Thanks for making it!
What a cool game. My wife and me have a lot of admiration for you, in particular which came from the music. Theres some of the purity of Patton Oswalt in it (one of our favorite comedians - see 'the bugged car' for a good laugh).
I did it I fixed my wand! Time has been restored!!! What a fun game. I imagine that this game could have been a big hit on playstation or N64 in 1995. Thank you so much for making it!
**Getting it working on Mac:**
Catalina has been having problems with Unity games (it says 'this game can't be opened') so I had to do the following: `chmod +x "Mac 3Contents/MacOS/*"` and then the usual gatekeeper workaround for downloaded apps: right click -> Open -> Open.
then it worked great!
It also worked great in Chrome on mac and actually looks fantastic in HTML5.
I really loved this game and experience. the art is awesome and I had fun the whole time. For feedback the controls could be tighter somehow but its a great game and submission. Thanks!
I just had to do the same fixes that I had to do for virtually every other mac game in this jam: 1. `chmod +x Clone-Kitchen.app/Contents/MacOS/*` removes the "this application can't be opened" problem 2. `Right click -> Open -> Cancel -> Right Click -> Open -> Open` to get around the security of the mac gatekeeper
#### Got it working ####
##### Web Version ##### Not the author here but when it didnt work I yanked a few folders out of the path and ~~found [This Link to the WebGL Version](https://hackerspace.ie/gaz-ludumdare/ld47/LowOrbit/Builds/WEBGL/LöwÖrbit_WebGL/) and~~ it worked great for me and is pretty fun!
Update: 1. [go to this link](https://hackerspace.ie/gaz-ludumdare/ld47/LowOrbit/Builds/WEBGL/) and then 2. click LöwÖrbit_WebGL it does seem to work
##### Mac Version ##### The [other builds seem to be located here](https://hackerspace.ie/gaz-ludumdare/ld47/LowOrbit/Builds/) ~~but @gaz-ireland will have to zip them each up to make them accessible. As is we would have to use something like `wget --mirror --no-parent https://hackerspace.ie/gaz-ludumdare/ld47/LowOrbit/Builds/` if you even have wget~~
Screen Shot 2020-10-05 at 10.39.54 AM 1.png High Score.png
@gaz-ireland Oh sweet! Thanks for [zipping those up](https://hackerspace.ie/gaz-ludumdare/ld47/LowOrbit/Builds/).
#### Web GL Version Workaround ####
You are right about my link and I can't explain that, as a workaround (and I've tried this a few times) if you 1. [go to this link](https://hackerspace.ie/gaz-ludumdare/ld47/LowOrbit/Builds/WEBGL/) and then 2. click **LöwÖrbit_WebGL** it does seem to work
Does that work for you?
This is one of the coolest modern asteroids Ive ever seen. it looks so crisp and beautiful on my high resolution screen and plays great, the shooting and graphics and explosions are fantastic and I want to know more how you did it ... In fact if I asked nicely is there any way you could try again getting the whole unity project up here somewhere so I could fire it up and see some of your 1980s in 2020 wizardry?
WOW Top Notch Vector graphics shooting mechanics and responsiveness and everything about the shooting is something I want in my games. What a winner! Thank you!
This mechanic works great and could even work great in lots of other games! Nice work!
This is a cool idea! I couldn't figure out how to make any real progress but I did move around and pick up some food at least. Thank you for making it and sharing it with us.
This one is a cool VVVVVV like platformer with the whole world in a big segmented sphere. Its a perfect jam game. The Death transition is just a bit jarring so just a few tweaks here and there and the fleshing out of more levels (other world shapes possibly) with a more gradual difficulty curve and its a super solid full game title!
Mac version worked perfectly! I had to do the usual tricks for MacOS Catalina: 1. type `chmod +x
Then it ran great and was legit really fun! Great entry and thanks for making it and submitting it!
The mac version works great! 75% of LD47 mac games have required the following two steps to get them to run (which is weird) 1. `chmod +x Clone-Kitchen.app/Contents/MacOS/*` removes the "this application can't be opened" problem 2. Right click -> Open -> Cancel -> Right Click -> Open -> Open to get around the security of the mac gatekeeper
I had fun escaping from the loop! Well done making a cool looking and playing game in just 2 days and thanks for submitting it to us!
A couple notes about the mac version: 1. Unique to this game and only one other that Ive played during this compo is that the small .rar file (22MB or so) expanded to 315 MB on mac which is strange. 2. With Mac Catalina you have to do this with almost all of the mac games that Ive downloaded today: 1. type in the termanal `chmod +x gamename.app/Contents/MacOS/*` 2. Double click-> Cancel -> Right Click -> Open -> Open
After that it launched instantly and played great!
This one is really great! I'm really impressed with pulling off these graphics and this gameplay in just 48hrs. Excellent work. I loved the low poly on everything!
In order to provide a bit of feedback and places this could potentially improve: 1. The run animation was just slightly 'off' or jerky something about how the legs moved. 2. The run sound didnt match the pace of the feet at all 3. The animation speed of the running could perhaps change the faster you go. 4. Hitting the fences caused 2x too much damage imho. Those are all nitpicks though. The graphics and mood were amazing and it had really fun racing mechanics. Well done and thank you!
I wasn't able to get it running in Safari but it ran fine in Chrome on Catalina
Reminded me of Rollerball (one of my favorite NES games) and I loved it. What a cool idea and experience. Thanks!
The polish here is high and I loved the graphics and sounds and controls. I probably would have enjoyed it more if the levels were more forgiving because as is I couldnt make any real progress. I still appreciate that you made it. Thank you!
I won! I'm really good at this game I guess ;) Seriously thanks for submitting the game.
Mac Catalina is picky so on almost every mac game I've played today (including this one) I've had to: 1. Type `chmod +x
This is cool! The graphics here are nice and have a lot of character. It has a similar gravity-based theme to my submission but this game has more character (especially in the graphics department haha). Thanks for making this and sharing it with us.
I couldn't get past the second enemy because my laser shots disappeared. I like where this could be going in the future though! Thanks for submitting it!
What a blast. I just spent 20 minutes with this game and didnt even realize it. Its so chill and great. I loved the music. I bet you are a bass or guitar player? I would love to play a little adventure through a world similar to this with enemies, a bit tighter controls, lots of checkpoints and fun geometric areas like this loop as long as it didnt lose the chill factor by getting too like "challenging" or serious or anything. I wouldn't want that because I love the vibe of this as it is. Great work!
P.S. How is that catsoft game creator in your opinion? It looks pretty cool.
Hey this was lots of fun! 1. I beat the game! 2. It didnt seem like it took 10 but only like 4 or 5 to win 3. I loved the graphics. I felt like I was in a keyboard 4. Going up against the wall in the back (away from the cable) and the camera wasnt real happy with me 5. In my case I only ever got signals from the key in the 'top left' corner right near the cable. all of them appeared right there in that same key. 6. I think it would be cool if there was a reflection of the signal on the roof so you could look on the roof to get an idea of where the signal is.
Thanks for making this!
This is so cool! You did a great job and this is a great entry. The graphics especially. And with only a few months experience its even more impressive. Nice!
The mac version doesnt run (and in fact decompresses from 33MB to 1GB using several different compression tools), but let me know if you have any updates for mac and I'll give them a shot. I'd love to see your game because it looks really cool! If you reply to this I'll see it and check it out again. :)
@mikoziq I got it to work on MacOSX Catalina!
I just had to run this command:
`chmod +x loopfieldMacOS.app/Contents/MacOS/*`
and then it worked like a charm.
There was only one weird thing: It decompresses from 33MB zipped to 994.7MB for some reason. While worth fixing that decompression thing is not a big deal (for me anyway) and in case it helps I ran some Disk Inventory X (fantastic program btw) and most of that space is taken up by one file:
`loopfieldMacOS.app/Contents/Resources/Data/sharedassets0.assets.resS`
Just like with every other game like this on MacOSX I had to do the usual: rightclick->open->open to get around the MacOS Gatekeeper.
None of that is a big deal because this is a fun game and nice work especially for just 48hrs!
This is cool and Im glad you submitted it. I like games with this control scheme and it made me think of new ideas for games and I appreciate that you created it and put it out there for us. Thanks!
Super clean graphics and cool aesthetic for a fun endless runner platformer game. Thanks for submitting it.
I really liked this only wish they moved faster. Also theres a trick to get the tiles to not tear like that (where you can subtly see the seams between many of the tiles) but I dont remember what it is ... maybe something about overlapping them or precision or something. sorry I dont remember. I really liked how you were constructing quotes and I feel like if you wanted to memorize or learn a quote this would be a great way to do it.
@thegreenworm You know what I think you are right about that dialog box. I agree that its a bit too long and slowed the game down a bit more.
@gamedev-and-architecture I can only share a few tips but I escaped with a good score so I feel qualified to give them: 1. Use your engines to escape (if possible) * Ideally you will get enough ship parts to repair your ship engines * if you do you will be able to use your engines to escape. 2. Ideally you will also be able to pick up the kitty too. 3. Toss the piano and vending machine and tires to change your trajectory slightly in order to pick up the ship parts. 4. Use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out (zooming out is probably most advantageous) 5. An average win might take about 5 min, but if you're lucky and you get the parts you need early enough you can win in under 2min. 6. If you want more clues and to learn more about the development of the game the developer streamed the whole development * [here's the final entertaining stream where he wraps it all up] (https://www.twitch.tv/videos/760594114) and with some special guests to make it even more entertaining
Good luck and have fun!
** My Best Time: 1m27s ** (Proud!)
Mac Catalina has been having problems with Unity games and this one was no exception so here's how to fix it: 1. In the terminal `chmod +x "Mac 2.app/Contents/MacOS/*"` since the new version of the game is called `Mac 2.app`
As always to work around the Gatekeeper security program use the RightClick->Open->Open trick
This is a masterpiece of a jam game. The mechanic is perfectly executed and this would turn into a fantastic full game. I beat it btw but I was drowned in money so perhaps I didn't escape the loop of greed ;) Thank you so much for making this!
Thanks for making this. I couldn't make any progress at all unfortunately because it was just too hard for me to keep track and plot out my next actions fast enough. There are some similarities to the Sega Genesis game Junction (in addition of course to the pipe games mentioned above). I think your execution of the game was fantastic tool.
a great puzzle with boxes and switches and doors and keypads that would make a really cool VR experience, and could be expanded to any number of interesting puzzles using these mechanics in different and interesting ways. Nice work!
I got it working on Mac with the normal RightClick->Open->Open gatekeeper workaround and its pretty cool! I'm impressed that you made the low poly village and rocks and all with the rest of the game in only 48hrs! The stuff on the ground level looks amazing and I would love to see a whole village made of this. Its kind of sad that I'm descending so quickly into the ground and dont get to explore it. :) Thanks for making the game! I made a cool song on the way to my doom ;)
P.S. Its considered good form for Ludum dare entries to turn off accepting money on itch.io.
It so cool that you walk one way and it flips upside down. One amazing thing about Pico8 is it recognized my gamepad after it started up! This is such a great concept of moving things around in advance and then speed moving things when you press the button. It means its kind of chill but then all of a sudden thrilling and stressful but 100% at the players chosen pace. I love that whole paced stress-thrill mechanic. I got a really high score over 200 deliveries and had a blast and almost finished the last round that I was on too (just missed it by one package)!
Mobius Station High Score.png
All I had to do was the usual `Double-click -> Cancel` then `Right-click -> Open -> Open` to get around the security of the mac gatekeeper. I had to do that with every other game on mac and after that it ran great.
haha it was really hard with my trackpad. Like @josh-roby said it didnt work in safari but it did in chrome.
** Top Score: 4 ** LOL
Thanks for making this!
Best score ever by anyone ever: 295. By me! J/K about the score I stank but I finished it and loved every second. This had the perfect amount of longevity and interest for a jam and the perfect amount of potential to build into something even bigger some other time. Fantastic work! P.S. I'm a unity guy atm but I've always had my eye on this engine and now I want to use the Löve engine even more than ever before!
I really like where you were going with this but I couldn't make any progress unfortunately any attempt to move just a bit and my ship shot entirely off screen and I died. I never saw an asteroid or experienced any gravity but based on the description I suspect this was working pretty well a few days ago and was and is probably really fun. Id like to see an update with much slower ship speed, but regardless thanks for submitting this game! I love the pixel art and the presentation of the whole game too! P.S. If you are in the mood make the new game jingle skippable or just start the player moving while the jingle plays. :) Thanks again!
Thats a cool loop! Your dads spirograph inspired this? Thats really cool that you have that inspiration and collaboration.
Super immersive into the art style of the pixel-aztecs. The gameplay is fun and the sprite and level rotation is out of this world. For a Jam game this is an 11. First score I got was 1009. Someone said this could be a mobile game as is and I totally agree. change virtually nothing. **High Score 2280**.
The graphics and controls are amazing and the statue even taunts you haha! You've got platforming mechanics down perfectly and its pretty impressive actually. Then you introduced a totally new mechanic of planning your actions out in advance which makes this really interesting.
1. On mac the game works in Full Screen on Chrome or Safari (with great sound even) but not in windowed mode. 2. The tutorial cuts off if you dont double jump over the blade pit on the second level of the tutorial. i never actually made it over that pit to the statue.
Thank you for making this!
I got to level 17 and loved how the blocks moved in from the right. it is a great use of a small amount of space and I liked that a lot. Thanks for making it!
I wish I could make this an 11 in the innovation category. Its such a great idea, and so smoothly integrated with the gameplay (doublejump drops trap) that it somehow makes each level interesting, while simultaneously letting the players 'create' the levels, and also simultaneously making it feel slightly roguelike in its randomness (not procedurally generated but a different adventure every time, and also giving you a feeling of power that you know that you will be affecting someone elses game and in a way designing their game and making things interesting or griefy for them, and simultaneously not allowing anyone to overpower it by keeping a limited amount of traps per level. Its fascinatingly brilliant.
I couldn't figure out how to control this to save my life. It looks really cool and I like a lot about it and hopefully I'll be able to figure it out someday. I hope it wasn't because I'm using the mac version. Are there any videos of it running properly? Thanks for making it regardless!
The mac version worked great after I got Vulkan installed as you recommended.
This was surprisingly fun and I think highly of you for making it work so well and for making such an apparently simple concept so fun! In the next version I think it would be cool to see KPS (kills per second) so we could optimize positions to find the most and maybe even have a leaderboard for highest kps ever :) This was fantastic fun thank you.
Top Score: 1,511,571 :)
I like how much combat this game managed to squeeze into a weekend. There are lots of different maneuvers and I like the idea of discrete rooms. It also seemed like I could get bonus points by getting more coins. I didnt initially like the keyboard controls but with some remapping they would have been fine, and I thought there was a certain floatiness in some of the jumping moves but all of that would be ironed out easily and I liked it overall. Its a cool game with lots of neat combat. Nice work!
@paroxysmal and @madjackmcmad Good news: I got this working on mac just now. I'm on Mac OS X Big Sur 11.5.2 on a 2017 macbook pro. I moved it to my desktop and then ran these two commands and then it worked great: ``` sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine "/path-to-game/Godot\ Testing.app" sudo xattr -cr "/path-to-game/Godot\ Testing.app"```
I hope it works for you and others too.
Presentation is slick and I like how the movement works. I cant figure out how the score is calculated, I also cant figure out why the thing is swinging around my mouse so hard or how to make it not. Its good that theres a gif showing how it works, I just wast really able to have that kind of control. I like the motion though and I see promise here. Thanks!
I had fun jumping and escaping and would have played more. I would like some easier levels for version 2. You could make lots of easier levels for a starting perhaps (although i dont mean to trivialize level creation it is an artform). Nice work!
What a cool game! I love the aesthetic and loved getting huge! I had a good time playing this and think it could be later expanded to have levels and goals of getting to a certain size and obstacles kind of like Katamari Damacy. its really good. Thank you!
Top Score 1:49.4s! 27 max cubes. Thats weird al's magic number! What a fun game! I love the abstract aesthetic and multiple camera angles and the music is nice too. Thanks! Nice work! Oh and I appreciate that the player couldn't fall off of the board. That would have been annoying but you saved us :)
What a slick and polished serving game! I got through level 3 but tried a few times and couldnt beat level 4. I bet I would get it in a few more tries but these types of games are not my strengths haha. I loved the graphics and how everything reacted and worked with each otehr and how well the game was thought through. In a future version I might enjoy like 5 levels at each complexity like on the first complexity with simpler drinks but then increasing difficulty there. This is really cool. Nice work!
This is awesome one of my favorites of the jam. Its planet jumping and its really beautifully done with deformable planets and great physics and reactive graphics. One of the coolest things is after a few levels it has a cool move real fast and then launch mechanic. I loved this thank you! I beat it too!
This is really really good. Even if it wasnt an NES game its good. Its a great forgiving but difficult puzzle game with great puzzles and a great world/layer switching mechanic that keeps it fresh and interesting. I feel like a full long game could be made out fo this with dialogue and everything and new music (since if the song were longer it would be better) since there was a text cutscene at the beginning. its so RAD!
the controls are explained better in the comments. you have to swing the tail back and forth by moving the mouse. I think if I watched someone else play I could get better and I think it should just have much longer delays for the flies. Maybe in the later levels it would have shorter delays? Still its cute pixel art and nice physics and I liked it and the humor of the whole idea and how it fits the theme. Nice work!
Wow this is a really cool strategy game! this is like civ but simpler and for me harder. I didnt do very good but it was really cool. I loved the music. Before I figured out what was going on I thought I was a different country who was doing great, then after a while it was clear they werent doing my commands and I investigated. d'oh!
@fre conflict history lines is a great idea
How cool I got to level Neon-20 and I won! It makes me happy to be able to win games like this. I like the graphics and gameplay and liked how the molecules stick together. I also like how it climbed the periodic table and thought that was a cool touch and almost made a story out of the game. In a future version I think it would be cool to get to neon and then go to a new level where you start over but where theres an obstacle or something. Then on a later level you have to get a specific balance of blue and red or something. Thank you and great work!
I like the graphics (Especially the character) and the controls. I played 7 attempts and couldn't really make it more than a few jumps into the first level. The platforms fell faster than I could climb them and I couldn't jump far enough. This has promise though and I like where its going. Nice work! I think its cool that you are responding to feedback from players too.
This is really good with great controls (some of the best in a simple platformer like this especially with the double jump and air jump) I loved the graphics and thought the game was a lot of fun and would love to see more. Could you continue it after the jam? I'll follow you on itch to keep an eye out.
Mac Compatibility: I got it working great by doing the following: 1. do `chmod -R +x Mac.app` to solve the problem: "You do not have permission to open the application Mac" 2. Then do right click-open-open to solve the problem: "can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software."
Cmd-q to quit when you beat this awesome game.
Overall Comments: I love the graphics. The graphics are so clean! I dont like the music personally but thats just me and you let us mute it in the settings. I absolutely love the animation of the player (I think it should have a little tutorial or some instructions on how to play but its pretty easy to figure out if you are a gamer). I would have played 5 more levels maybe 10 I really liked this and this could be fleshed out into a large excellent game. For technical feedback consider finding a way to change the friction on the walls during jumping because I kept getting stuck on them while jumping (easy to workaround with jump first then move). Thank you so much and nice work!
haha its so clever! you are on a pogo stick and as such are super unstable and have to spin and flail around to try to make progress through a cave. I frankly wasnt able to get very far but had fun doing it and would love to see some sensitivity options or play around with tweaking how the jumping worked or something because while this was fun I feel like it could be mega fun in the future. I loved the graphics and the cave layout was clever. the shadows on the platorms were really cool. what a cool game. Nice work!
Inspired by @fluffy-kaeloky I knew I could do it and 30min later I did it! I beat the game! I loved the boss battles (esp the end one) and the patterns, and the whole mechanic this is just a great shooter. Its a great looking pixel art space shooter. I love the art. The controls are great with wasd and mouse being a natural combo for gamers but its nice to have other options too. Cool exciting Music! I LOVE how the music rocks in the menu, then ROCKS in teh level, then we get a boss theme and then even get an awesome level complete theme! ilove it! Its cool that you get more stable as you go. the idea that firing energy weapons might make the ship less table seems actualy really sci-fi realistic. Great that it autopauses when it loses focus. And WOW About 30 min later I've beat the game and I get to hear some epic triumphant win music! Its really great! Thank you!
@devparty I think you are right about it being a little too easy, at least for some people. The stacks of blocks are unstable physics objects so the idea was that it would be difficult to jump from one to the other but that became unclear and like @c64cosmin mentioned many of the levels could be just jumped over to get to the finish, but finally on the last level the mountain was unstable. I will keep all of this excellent feedback in mind for Episode 2 and I already have several levels designed in my head! There is a timer and highscore system so that players may attempt to find faster ways of beating the levels than they did before, even if they found it easy to get through it once, but that's not made clear until the first loop is over. I think I will change the description to point this out (done). Thank you both for playing the game and taking the time to provide feedback and encouragement!
@dobryn Thanks! Sorry that it doesn't run on that device. I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment anyway and let me know that you tried. :)
@qthree Wow thank you! I appreciate your comments about the game being satisfying and am pleased that you liked the music. I'm proud of that. I will work on tightening the wall climbing mechanic and level designing the difficulty balance when I make Sir BaLancelot 2: The Lost Levels :) thank you again!
@TimeLoad You are right for starters I would have liked to introduce a character model and backgrounds and more decorations. and @alan001 thank you! you are right. the lighting is odd. Perhaps someday I'll find myself in full command of lighting aesthetics. At least I already know a few things I can do to tighten up the lighting in the sequel. I'm impressed you found that wall lol. Thank you both for playing it and for stopping back by to leave your comments!
@slimmerburger Wow thank you and I love that idea! (which is likely to become part of Balancelot 2: The lost levels ;) ) thank you for playing it and I'm glad you liked it.
@picttarge thank you! I think I can tighten up that jumping mechanic and level design to optimize the encouragment/discouragement of the sailing (at least to a degree). Thank you for playing it and I'm glad you made it through.
@morris Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the lore. I like games with lore like that and am glad I could work that in. Thank you for your feedback about the jump, and thank you for playing!
@mikoziq wow 238.69! Thats the current record! If anyone has beat that record they haven't posted it here :) Thank you so much for your pros and cons comments. I actually love that idea about Sir Balancelot being a cube and perhaps I can work that mechanic into the sequel!
Thank you all for playing and coming back to leave a comment :)
@derek-volker Wow thank you for those words. I appreciate that you played and enjoyed it and that you came back to let me know all about what you liked about the game. Thank you so much :)
@bflatinteractive wow great score! thank you so much for your comments. I particularly appreciate your remark about Sir Balancelot's personality. I'm glad you had fun and appreciate you coming back to leave this comment!
@human-writes-code Thank you! This means a lot to me. You are right about more variety in obstacles being beneficial and I will be including that in Sir Balancelot 2: The Lost Levels and wow the exploding or sticky blocks are great ideas thank you!
@djee Thank you for playing and coming back to leave a comment here. 171.79 is a great score way to go!
@2kah Wow thank you for playing and coming back to leave that kind comment! That means a lot to me.
@schuster Thank you! yeah you're right theres some vibes from both of those games in here. Thanks again!
@candlesan Thank you for playing and coming back to leave this comment! I will! :)
@sethjmoore thank you so much and wow what a score! Unless I'm very much mistaken you have the current record!
@cauldron Wow thank you! I think you are right about difficulty and I think I will make most of the levels in Sir Balancelot 2: The Lost Levels more like the last level in this one. Thank you so much for playing the game and stopping back in to help with feedback!
@epiphaner You have the current record time! Congratulations! and @python-b5 Thank you for playing! I agree that it could be more difficult and plan to adjust the levels for Sir Balancelot 2: The lost levels after the jam and different levels should also help emphasize the **unstable** platforms in this game. In that game I will make more levels like the last level as @grizwhirl suggested.
Thank you so much @mar3k ! I appreciate the comment and that you played it and that you stopped back in to leave this comment. :)
I agree with @the-neon-shark and was going to write up some of those things too but they put it better than I would have anyway. I liked the aesthetic a lot and LOVE the control scheme which is new and innovative in this context. This has a lot of potential thank you for making it and nice work.
This is a really cool climbing game using a swinging shooting mechanic that works solid. I wish I could play it in stable mode so I had more time to plan and I wish there were more platforms to actually land on so I could strategize. Someone said it would be cool and natural to move back and forth with wasd and I agree. maybe even a jump. Its really cool as it is. Nice work.
wow this is really polished and I love the aesthetic. Its pretty much my favorite looka nd makes me feel like I'm inside a video game. Theres platforming and shooting and instability and interesting level mechanics. Its really cool. Thank you!
this is freaking incredible! an entire NES game wiht POLISH like name entry and dialogue cutscenes and simpel enemies and shooting and jumping and climbing and platforming and everything and it was made in a weekend? AND with great NES graphics? And with a cool polished minigame for fixing the antennas? Rad!!!! Thank you!
Cool! Now that there is a link it plays really smooth and tight. its interesting that it gets slower as you play. Maybe that is an unstable mechanic? Is there a way I could look at the source code? (as part of the compo its supposed to be available but no big deal) Regardless nice work!
@franticcoder Wow this is great thank you for sharing the code in a github! That code is tight and efficient and clear and easy to understand. On second play I really like how crisp the motion of the ball is and feels.
Re: the game getting slower I just double checked and at the start it takes about 3s for the ball to get from the paddle to the lower row of blocks. By the time I have 210 points it takes about 12 seconds from the ball to get from the lower set of blocks to the paddle. I'm looking at the code now to see if I can see what is going on but it looks solid at the moment :) This is in chrome on a 2017 macbook pro if thats relevant.
Idea (from someone who has never made a game in Godot): perhaps in Main.gd where it checks for the ball going too fast, perhaps it could also check for it going too slow? This would be a workaround at best. The only other thing I noticed is that in the next section the conditions for 'moving southeast' are totally different than the conditions for all 3 other directions. I hope this helps a bit.
Fantastic pixel art and presentation. "Scrap god" lol. This is fun! It took me 5 deaths to figure it out. First I wasnt collelcting, then I wasnt processing it right but now I nkow what to do. I love the art and the dialogue and the controls. "what are you still doing here" I love the cute funny plot and the gameplay is great. I beat it it was fun once I figured out what to do. Nice work!
P.S. I love your youtube channel. Subscribed.
THis is really fun! Its an unstable particle, you have to spam the mouse button and simultaneously dodge the falling rocks. Its really cool! Unbelievably its made in 32kb of Javascript and even more unbelievably that includes the SOUNDS! Wow and its really fun because you cant go damageless and if you know that and look at the source you will see theres a fun story here thats not immediately apparent. I love how the graphics change as you progress. The aesthetics in the process are really nice and attractive.
High Score 19700!
This looks like a cool game! unfortunately I didnt do so great honestly. I could only make a few jump/hooks to another platform. I tried about 10 times but maybe I'll try again later and see if I can do better! I lovehow the lava balls look and how well the hookshot works. Nice work!
This is great! I had fun blasting those bad things and after a few tries figured out how to strategize and beat the end boss and win! I liked the terrain and graphics, and the enemies, and I liked the controls and shooting. I liked the life refill mechanic too which made it fair. I thought the enemies could be adjusted to make them sometimes miss. I loved it! It will actually be memorable for me. Thank you and nice work!
P.S. I played it on a 2017 macbook pro in chrome and it worked great.
FYI The source link doesn't work as of 815pm CST on Oct 5.
Wow this is fantastic! I love the aesthetic and the controls and the puzzling. for the next version consider putting a little "you beat the level" pause when you beat the level so the player can revel in their success. I would have enjoyed playing 10 more levels today and 100 more in the next version. This is fantastic. nice work!
This is cool I like how you can tell how much the tower is tilting based on the horizon. The platforming controls were excellent! I think if I spent some more time with it I would get better but as is I could only get 5 builds and 1 upgrade and then I got stuck several times. Its really cool and I'm impressed. Nice work!
The graphics are so beautiful. The movement controls are so fun! climbing the ladders is fun (and particularly innovative and it feels like you are actually climbing). sliding the poles is fun. walking is fun because of the animation. its so fantastic. I personally wasnt great at the minigames but they did a great job of capturing the theme. this is a great game overall with wonderful aesthetic. Nice work!
This is a game made out of spite and it ended up quite funny! I beat it too! the gameplay is just picking words that you think the author would have thought were terrible themes. I made him become so unstable he exploded! Its really impressively made and the polish is fantastic. The game is fundamentally just clicking menu buttons but then in the background theres really good reaction animations from the developer at her keyboard. I loved the graphics actually they were really smooth and well done. Nice Work!
Lovely low res pixel art. I love it. you are in a hot air baloon dropping blocks on a platform trying to not let them fall off. its a really good implementation of this idea. I've played a similar iphone game in the past but I like the presentation here better.
P.S. The feedback you get when you drop a box and the balloon jumps just a bit is pure class.
High Score: 49 meters! Update: OMG I did it!!! ** I got to 1500 meters!** "You have built to the top" I love the sense of humor at this point, and the effects in the game when you get near the top. This had me totally entranced and I told my wife I would get back with her in 10 min because I wanted to beat it. once I realized that the blocks become SUPER solid after a few seconds, then it was just a matter of exerting patience and it paid off. I won! yay! (gotta go catch up with my wonderful wife now!)
A few other things I thought of after a few meters the balloon is real close to the top block maybe add some more space there?
@tejasvonly thats how I beat it! one column FTW!
It took me two tries to figure it out but I really like this! at first I was only surviving for a few seconds but then I got over 30 and just now **I survived for 71 seconds** which was really hard and I felt proud of it. I wonder if there is an ending? probably not since it says 'infinite runner' lol What a fun twist on a text game. Technically its responsive and easy to get into. Thanks and Nice work!
OMG I beat it! I could play this for hours. It put me in a trance because I loveo taking my time in games and this forced that technique. I loved this. I loved the graphics, sound, controls and the combat. I want more and would love to see this in VR. Great work! Oh and like @tyler-law i loved the respawn mechanic that was brilliant and more games should have something like that.
this is an abstract low poly overhead wave shooter with diffreent themes applying to shake up the action. No other games fit the theme so well because this entire game is unstable but also incorporated all of those other themes. Its a really great innovative idea. On top of that its one of the tightest implementations of an overhead shooter like this that I've ever seen. I love low poly abstract graphics like this so this was a winner in my book. Nice work!
Wow I love the aesthetics of this dungeon. I ran fast through it and I love the thought of getting really good and knowing exactly where to go to someday escape the dungeon. I love exploring and this provides a great sensation of exploration. thanks! NIce work!
This is the best unity pinball I've ever seen. The physics are fantastic, it feels great, the graphics are super crisp and lively. Its got a great pinball hall mood and it is a lot of fun to play. my high score was 25800. in the middle of my first game I found the ball stuck in the top righ tand clicked things and was trying to get out of the game to reload, used the mouse and WHOA I realized that the controls with the mouse are where its at. I have always wanted to play a pinball game where tilting is ok (where its on an UNSTABLE table ;) ) and this is where its at. Thanks for sharing it with us! Nice work!
I really liked this. I already like TD games and this is a solid implementation of the mechanic with an awesome twist. I could play this a really long time. for version 2 Id like to see more speed up.
This is a fun strategy climbing game where you decide where to place the objects and then you have to climb on them. You wouldnt think it sa strategy game and it sort of isnt but you have to decide where to drop the stuff and it matters a lot to how far up you can get. Having the dropping aspect be up to the player is a great idea and this was great work!
I got so close! If i had clipped the right branch I would have won! this is a cool game with a cool concept and you did a great job. Thanks for sharing it with us!
Hi I tried to get it to make on macos but got this error ```src/graphics.hpp:5:10: fatal error: 'SDL2/SDL_image.h' file not found ``` tag me in a comment here if you know what to do and I might be able to try it again.
a rage platformer like getting over it haha its great! otoh in the same ways that getting over it is terrible this is also terrible lol. I got pretty far if you ask me but I gave up but had fun for a while and if I were more of a fan of these games I would have liked it more. I like it now though and the controls were good and the graphics worked and the gun mechanic was unique and interesting. nice work!
This is really good and I would love to see more in the future. I completely understand not getting to sound and music (I have done that before) and also making a short game (I have done that before too!) and I would love to see a followup game in the future with more puzzles if you ever get a chance to do it. Thank you and nice work!
its great that you have a video! I love the graphics style. I love the keyboard typing mechanic. I liked the person talking to us and the quirky music too. having the goldilocks timing mechanic is leagues more interesting than just hitting the key. Its also really cool that you made a leaderboard. Also its cool that you got it working with HTML from Godot because other people in this compo are saying its kind of broken. I think you have proven them at least partially wrong. Thanks and great work! *** High Score: 564 *** currently #5 on the leaderboard. (I bet you can't bump me off!)
drop tetraminos and dont let any fall. This is really cool. Great aesthetics and great gameplay. I wish for a version where dropping blocks didnt kill you it just set you back maybe lowering points or height or something. As is though its really well done. Nice work!
This is really cool its relaxing and hypnotic and fun. you collect molecules of certain colors and then put them together with others of that color to upgrade your ship. I really liked this and got pretty zoned out. I got confused near the end of my play session but I bet if I try it again I'll get even further. Nice Work!
this has a great aesthetic with an awesome color palette and really cool spawning shapes it looks like procedural sprites or something. its really good. Its too hard for me to get very far but it was really cool playing for a few minutes and I think with either some practice on my end or some tweaking of the enemy spawn rate I could really enjoy building and exploring (if there is anything to explore and if there isnt maybe there should be in the next version) Nice work!
this was a jam game and seems to be a tough as nails platformer with a fascinating mechanic where you can only do one thing. tis one button and the mouse, but it picks what your next action will be which is the unstable part and kind of funny but also kind of rage-ey (which was intended I'm sure) the controls and collision and graphics are all solid and great. Its really cool. I didnt get very far unfortunately but I bet I could given enough time. Thanks and nice work!
I wish I could give 6/5 for mood. This is really cool. I got 28/22 :)
Great game! I got 7 points and am proud :)
I love the art and mood and style and it is fun to play. It makes me think of ghosts and goblins and seems like it could be expanded someday to scratch a similar itch. I just figured out that I can slash vertically or diagonally. The tips after dying are a nice touch and I've learned a few things from them already. Thank you its a great entry!
Update: I just now figured out what happens if you slash down and all of a sudden am getting huge combos. what great controls you have here!
** My Scores from around my first hour of play: **
_Souls/Combo/Score_ ``` 18/1/980 FabDynamic 10:50 1/12/23 25/2/1395 FabDynamic 10:56 1/12/23 12/11/1715 FabDynamic 11:05 1/12/23 14/16/2480 FabDynamic 11:18 1/12/23 14/15/2500 FabDynamic 11:26 1/12/23 23/9/3280 FabDynamic 11:30 1/12/23 23/14/3540 FabDynamic 11:32 1/12/23 ```
Whoa I got 980 and 18 souls as my top score. I bet none of you gamerz can beat that! (that was me taunting others for friendly competition :) )
Update: I have improved my score by quite a bit
Update: This game is incredibly fun. I've been playing for 45 minutes!
Update: several days later: I have been playing every day and tonight I beat my previous high score ... by a lot. it was 23/14/3540 but now its ... 22/33/8440 (and yeah I took a screenshot) :grimacing: :cool:
_Souls/Combo/Score_ ``` 22/33/8440 @FabDynamic 22:09 1/15/23 23/14/3540 @FabDynamic 11:32 1/12/23 21/13/3515 @Yaen 23:00 1/14/23 14/6/1225 @Frogman 14:14 1/12/23 ```

@yaen Holy cow thats an incredible score! I had to read very carefully to see if you had beat mine, it looks like you are in second place but only by 25pts lol. I hope you don't get a few points more and take first :) seriously nice work and you are right this game is satisfying.
Your sprites are not just "programmer art" those are legit! Great entry thank you!
This was fun and I liked how everything bounced and moved. Thanks for the great submission!
I even got it working with my arcade fight stick (well there wasn't anything to 'get working' it just worked) and I loved the controls and graphics in this. All of the graphics are super polished and the post processing is particularly classy. The plane controls fantastic and I love how the plane moves and feels. This is a great entry thank you!
This is incredible and currently in my top two favorite games of the compo (far above my own submission of course) and its hard to believe that you did all of the sprites and all of this in this weekend (I 100% believe you its just super impressive). What a great game! I loved the sprites like the bee and also the wasp who is just lounging there like Burt Reynolds. It also worked perfectly with my arcade fight stick with no configuration which made it easier I think. The game is so classy :) :cool:
How in the world did you do this? Could you point me(us) in the direction of how you learned to do this? Is there a "hello, world" for making (or I guess re-making or repackaging idk) a pacman rom?
P.S. my top score so far is 19570 I got to level 6.
@madbeagle what a great write up and description of the process. Its so cool that any of these tools exist let alone the whole setup to let you (with a lot of setup in advance ofc) press F7 and build a rom. Thats so cool!
@cukeds good news there is now a volume control in the settings on the main menu. Maybe that wasn't there when you played it idk.
I really liked this and found it satisfying. I didn't get nearly as far as some of the rest of you: my best was 5697. Great stuff!
@xlores-liang excellent! As I was reading your comment I realized that I must have overlooked a simple difficulty/reward mechanism that would have inherently made what you did less rewarding. I never put that mechanism in so you optimized the game perfectly! Nice work and thank you for playing it and providing this valuable feedback :)
@reevest2 thank you for the compliment on the game and for stopping by to rate and comment :)
@paloobi @thomasward @cutesquirrel @nick-saulnier thank you all for playing this game and for the kind words and constructive feedback. I wonder if it could be expanded to be even more like minesweeper? now my brain-gears are turning!
@john-gabriel Thank you for the kind works and feedback! @owca Thank you for the positive and constructive feedback!
I appreciate you both. :)
@reivilibre that makes sense and I hoped that the arrow keys worked as a backup but do some games actually sense which keyboard layout it is or do they just give an option to remap in the game? thanks for this great food for thought and thanks for working around it with a remapping!
@gotanod thank you! I thought about that qbert thing and am not sure why I didn't do this game that way. Probably for Jack the Reaper 2: Reap Harder ;)
@reivilibre fascinating! I was able to switch my keyboard to azerty and replicate the problem you are describing and I think I know what to do. Thanks again!
@ghostbomb Thank you! you are right and I appreciate your feedback. :)
Thank you for the feedback @hungryroy and for playing the game and offering those kind words. I'll have to fix that UI responsiveness problem for the sequel :)
Thank you @ofiro ! That mean farmer is a jerk and I'm glad you escaped :) I appreciate your feedback.
The gameplay and graphics are super smooth and I love the twist about having survival requirements which adds cool strategy!
What a blast! I got to level 12 and beat your high score with 2780 (and took a screenshot to prove it :) ) I loved the song but wished it was longer but it was perfect for the jam. This game really has got the juice ;)

P.S. BeepBox is really cool!
I like what you have done here. I like how low baggage the code is: how quickly it loads and how it uses built in browser popups perfectly. The game is fun and I like where you were going with this game. I find myself constantly risking things and ending up dying. It entices me to get dangerous and that's a win. Nice work!
Oh I'm further impressed because I looked at the code and its nice OO as well. I like your comments too like `jump if coast looks clear and frog is feeling it` lol it makes it pleasant to read and honestly conveys the intent perfectly.
A few more cool things about your code: around line 60 you made the cars go in different directions with just ONE line of code. very clever. There are tons of clever things like that in this code.
I spent the last few hours playbalancing and here's what I came up with: LD52FrenchFroggerCodeDiffs.png
Even without those changes this really cool and once again I love how low baggage this all is. Thanks for the entry!
This was fun and I was able to beat it! I liked the shooting although I think the controls could be tweaked to be able to shoot easier in diagonal. Possibly make it into a twin stick shooter. I had fun playing it and am looking forward to seeing if there are more levels someday.
I did it! Beat the game. I think it took like 30min? something like that. What a blast and brilliant innovation and work. I thought I would like it from the description but I knew I would like it when I saw the tutorial and figured out how it worked.
@xlores-liang
wrt fixing bugs: you can fix the audio and its not too late! you are allowed to fix things like this, you just have to call out what you did on your submission page [^1].
```"Certain Bug Fixes are allowed. You can’t add new features, but if something broke or didn’t work correctly as you were finishing up, you can fix this after the deadline. You are asked to highlight the changes you make in your submission (a short change log). You probably wont get a 2nd chance with some players, but at least it wont be a problem for future players."```
[^1]: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules see 'bug fixes' near the bottom
@xlores-liang I'm 60s in and already love the sense of humor. its adorable how motivated granny is to get back to work like "hi kids! oh you have diseases? thats nice. gotta run! mmmbyeee" lol
and now awwww... what a great game and story!
P.S. I see in the subtitle what just happened a few days ago and I'm sorry for your loss. *hugs*
This is great! the last time I looked a level before I died my score was 3563 but I think I could do better than that. I loved the graphics how the asteroids seamlessly mirrored from one side of the playfield to the other. and the bullets and ship did too. I like that. And I like how the pickups didn't. That made it even more interesting.
FYI my joystick worked perfectly right out of the box with no configuration although I didn't test the bomb button.
I loved this! I almost beat it the first time but they got me! I tried again and got down the pattern and beat it! I have visions of the future where this game has a little different AI for the different ores, and different weapons you can choose to upgrade to. This is an excellent entry thank you.
P.S. I particularly liked your pixel art. Excellent work.
Wow this is really good. I keep thinking I need to use GDevelop and see what all the hub-bub is about. This reminded me of classic 80s platformers and I feel like this could be built into a really good one with some more levels or something. I loved the animation of the carrots especially and the whole thing felt crisp and smooth. Nice work!
I like the gameplay and theme! Nice work!
Q: was there a way to extend the timer? Also how do the upgrades work? I couldn't buy any in the three games I played.
That eater is huge! I didn't get too many points but I liked the game. Congratulations and thanks for the submission!
I wish I could give more stars for graphics and sound its incredible! What a cool heartwarming story all the way through. I love how you made it too. I just bought PixelGameMakerMV a few weeks ago but haven't used it yet and now I want to. What is your background with it? Was it pretty easy to get into? Thanks for the great entry!
I like where this is going! Is there a lose condition? No big deal I like exploding things so this is a fun sandbox!
This is incredibly sophisticated even in a month I couldn't make something like this. Nice work. I love all of the graphics too. The aesthetic is great but the models are great too. Nice work!
This was great fun thank you! I beat it. I liked the stacking mechanism and the clues. It all worked great.
I wish I could give 10 stars for mood this game is really really cool.
This was really good! I loved everything about it including the jokes. Nice work and thanks!
This was great fun! congratulations for getting it done. its a complete game and I got 560 pts!
I beat it! What a fun game! It seems like it could introduce a huge puzzle game series with stories and hundreds of puzzles. I love it.
This is a great game! I got 550 points. Can anyone beat that? I doubt it because I am amazing ;) I really liked it . It took me 2 games to figure out what to do and how the stickers at the bottom corresponded to what is in the c and d menu which was a fun puzzle to solve and once I did I had a lot of fun! its really well done and the user interface is brilliant. Thank you!
This is great! What do you do if the recipient is ??? just send it to anyone on the right street?
I figured out that left and right shift seems to get some things on plates. I wasn't able to complete any orders but I love the dual controls which messed with my mind in a cool way. Technologically I am super impressed at how quickly it loads. Most of the other Unity games (including mine) take a while to load but this one is near instant. Nice work!
Loved it! I actually beat it too and had a blast. thank you!
This was fun! I got so close to the end or at least some big boss guy but didn't know how to get to him and before I did I fell through the floor but it was really fun! Nice work!!!
I really liked this and I wanted to like it even more: I tried it 4 times and only made 1 successful delivery and one successful upgrade but died immediately after each. Maybe the author would be willing to share some tips? Regardless its really cool. Thanks!
This is real fun and would be a fun package shooter and I liked it!
I beat it! I got the bad ending but then I watched your walkthrough and loved your explanation! Thanks for the great game. Your reading in your walkthrough is really dramatic and great.
I wish I could give 10 stars for humor and gameplay I loved this. Thank you!
