Impressive how you were able to make this without any hand input. I love the graphics. The lack of sounds effects was missed. Gameplay is ok for a game jam, needs a few more elements (such as upgrades) to keep it engaging. Great work, keep it up.
Polished game, good job! The graphics are simple but enjoyable.
My only critique is that it didn't feel like there was much skill to be learned. Maybe if the field had corners and obstacles then it might be more challenging. Some personal ideas: 1. Show a goal: how many levels are there? What kind of ending am I possibly going to get? 2. Maybe try different controls with the keyboard, so it's harder to aim.
Cheers.
Nice little game, simple idea, but overall well polished. Good art style, nice soundtrack. Cool that you made it so you can scare birds by just walking into them. Adding even basic audio for shoting and hitting would help a lot. Played till level 5, but then sopped, too slow of a pace for my taste. But well done overall)

While the game isn't overly complex it's really inspiring to see games in this jam being made in these conditions. It's a completely functioning, fun and nice looking game and it's incredible it was done without any usage of hands. It really shows that this jam is all about pushing whatever limitations you have further and making something neat along the way.

Thank you, it was quiet a challenge that I gave myself there but I am very satisfied with the result. Of course it was all faster back when I used my hands, so I had to basically plan a game that previously would have taken me one day to make. I still planned far beyond this time frame and had so many things I would have loved to include still, but I am so grateful to even being able to participate at all. I want to tell my story publicly in the near future to inspire others that fight with similar issues.

You're right, we had basically the same idea! Even the progress bar at the top and the goal of keeping a certain amount of crops! I was able to get a score of $2530 after reaching level 11.
Now... I really want to congratulate you on this game. I mean, making a game in 48 is already hard enough and you not only did it but you did it good. The game is consistent on all fronts and the gameplay is well balanced, responsive and it just feels right.
Thanks for this awesome submission :hearts:

Wow, well done! I can only imagine what the game is like on level 11 :D Thank you a lot for the compliments! I saw on your profile that you have been Ludum Daring for quite a while now. Keep up that great work! :)
Cozy game! Nice text animations in the intro  I reached level 5 - at which point it got a bit repetitive. Would have loved to be able to spend my money on anything, even if it was purely decorative  I'm impressed by your achievement, and welcome back to Ludum Dare. I hope you will be able to take part in the next one as well!
What a blast! I got to level 12 and beat your high score with 2780 (and took a screenshot to prove it :) ) I loved the song but wished it was longer but it was perfect for the jam. This game really has got the juice ;)

Nice game… but very difficult (at least with trackpad). The scope is perfect for the compo.

A polished, nice, complete, different game! For me with keyboard/ mouse controls it is too difficult (I am used to twin stick controller controls). Nice fitting music and very nice graphics!
I feel very relaxed whilst shooting these birds to death :)
Really enjoyable. I thought it was a little too easy and different enemies would have been nice. Also very clever to make the character move towards your mouse instead of defaulting to wasd.

Thank you! Congrats to the new highscore! I'm surprised how different everyone feels about the difficulty. I was kinda limited in the controls I could choose but I'm happy that so many of you enjoyed it! :) I did have so many more ideas for different enemies and also new crops that would give you special abilities if you protect them for a round. But sadly those 48 hours passed so much faster than I expected. I will definitely prepare myself more for the next Ludum Dare and adjust my scope accordingly.
Funny nod to gregory brothers and good job on the game jam!
This was a solid and fun compo entry. Although I can see it getting repetitive after level 8.
I beat your score, with $1560 :P
Nice work!

Great game you did there! I love the pixely art style. And the ambient occlusion around the sprites give it so much depth! I also like the different animations here and there.
The gameplay is solid. I also enjoy that you added corn-bullets. Very happy about the auto shot. The pacing feels a bit slow, but it gets frantic quite fast. I like the difficulty curve and how the map gets larger and larger. At some point it even feels tactical because you need to lead your bullets a lot while being overwhelmed by crows.
Good job overall and I'm impressed what you were able to do without using your hands. Bravo!
Here's my score on the first run. Had a lot of luck on level 12 which I could finish with 51% left:

Super inspiring that you managed to make a full game without typing, and one this polished! I agree with the other commenters that the scope is a bit too reduced in terms of gameplay, and one more gameplay mechanic would have improved the game a lot, but what *is* there works well and is fun to play. I really like the birds exploding animation.
One little nitpick I wanted to mention is that when designing pixel art I think a good rule to stand by is to keep a consistent pixel size, as I find it helps make the game feel more harmonious. Here the pixels for the characters are different sizes from the ones used in the wood posts which bugs me a little bit. But maybe you knew that and went for this style on purpose in which case feel free to ignore this!

Thank you to all of you guys for playing and the amazing Feedback. @zubspace Also congratulations for the impressive new highscore! @feor This is actually exactly what I thought as well. I also tend to be very picky and make everything match perfectly together, but after spending over an hour on the green harvest button I came to the conclusion that I should just get done with stuff or I won't end up with a game in the end. :D

Wow, I really really enjoyed this. Super clean presentation, minimalist but adequate - all the visuals feel very polished because everything is stylistically coherent. My only nitpick is that the dead crops kinda look like crows, which cost me a crop once or twice (when things got chaotic) :D
Great difficulty scaling too - too slow for me to try another time after my first game over but probably the best possible difficulty scaling in terms of providing the highest amount of players with a satisfying experience.
Also, I found there to be a surprising and satisfying amount of depth to the gameplay - the trifecta of leading your shots to compensate for travel time, keeping an overview to prioritize certain enemies over others and trying to keep your character centered to reduce the average travel time really made for a skillful and rewarding experience during the later waves.
Also, I beat your PB :P cornscore.PNG
Congrats on this very well crafted entry!

@hoichael Wow, that's simply crazy! I never expected to see anyone getting that far. just so close to level 16 even! I could only ever play test it with my eye tracking and wasn't sure if it would be easier or more difficult with mouse, so I'm just very happy that it turned out to not be too easy or too difficult for everyone. it really was a lucky shot that it ended up this way, because I think I never even changed any stat from the once i chose by instinct right from the get go :D
I am very much looking forward to the next Ludum Dare. It has been such a blast coding a game in a weekend again with all this great feedback and hundreds of amazing games to play! :)
I did alright. Wow that guy up there dominated!! xD great job. i'm just so glad i could shoot things!2023-01-21 21_34_04-It's Corn! by grid96.png
Really well done on this one. The gameplay is super fun. Having the option to scare or shoot the birds makes for more depth than expected, and the difficulty ramp is solid. One thing that I missed was the ability to pause the game. Also, since there isn't much reason to not shoot, some way to auto shoot would be nicer than holding down space or the mouse button. As others said, the pacing is a little bit slow, but it keeps things relaxed. The graphics were excellent and the controls intuitive. Great job.

Incredibly polished work, well done using the tools available to you. It's a really impressive entry and I'm so glad someone incorporated that song into this theme.
