LD44 — Your life is currency

Wendy the Witch in "Mind Your Damned Business!" by DEGLIS 2019-05-01T13:19:33Z

Hahahahahaha this is definitely a winner in the humour category for me. Fits the theme well and is fun to play as well. Only feedback I have is that drawing circles near the house sometimes makes you inadvertently enter the shop, and sometimes enemies don't take damage even though they're circled (or vice versa), but it's still a great entry. Amazing job

Death by Masses by ThePelranthean 2019-04-30T07:51:51Z

I feel like it would've been pretty decent if it had more time alotted to it but sadly deadlines are deadlines. I'd love to give it a shot if it were a bit more polished. Maybe having some audio, better mechanics and more theme accuracy would make this much better. Still, I appreciate the effort and I'd love to see more coming from you :)

Venture-Out! by 64mega 2019-05-04T16:14:39Z

Good job churning out an ASM game in compo time, I know a thing or two about that myself :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: The graphics are easily the best part about this game, bright and colourful: I dig them and they are very reminiscent of DOS games. The theme is also well-respected, and I appreciate managing to include sound, though the short loop might be a bit grating eventually. Gameplay wise I did enjoy it as well though I think the controls were a bit stiff - the paddle moves a bit too slowly to me. Maybe it could've been cool if you added mouse support. Also, I'd map moving screens to a keystroke, I did accidentally change screens on a few occasions which was a bit annoying seeing as the tiles respawn. Still, it was a pleasant surprise seeing another ASM game on this LD and I'd love to see more stuff from you :)

Peak Myths by fashionbatman 2019-05-02T17:28:37Z

Excellent satire on modern gaming. Loving the sound effects and the programmer art, helps out the game a ton. Good take on the theme too. Easily the funniest game I've played in this LD so far, thanks for the good time

Timezone by joemanaco 2019-04-29T16:00:36Z

Pretty fun! I like the music, reminds me of Amiga MODs. Kudos for managing to include such a nice track, especially in 48 hours, I sure couldn't have done it myself :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: As for the game itself it plays pretty well though I did notice cases where I swear the hits should've registered, but it's been a rare occurence. Had genuine fun with this, great game

Heat of the Star by mikethewayne 2019-05-14T06:51:12Z

Pretty interesting concept. A bit slow paced and a bit too RNG based at the beginning (an in-game reset would've been great) but I've been having quite some fun with it. Good job :)

Depths by potatolain 2019-04-30T07:39:57Z

Wow, making a game with a meaning for Ludum Dare was quite unexpected but welcome. Also, it's an NES game and it's always neat to see someone keeping the NES alive! Maybe one little thing I would've added is just a bit more challenge, I managed to beat the game on my first try without dying. Still, it's a great and welcome entry

Battery is here to stay by Aterlamia 2019-05-02T17:05:19Z

I've had the same issue with the cursor, definitely an annoyance. Other than that I think the graphics look pretty decent and I've had fun in the first room. The second room however I gave up, I might check that walkthrough. Could be great with improvements on that cursor :)

Microtransaction Mages by Jeremy Ryan 2019-04-30T08:20:13Z

Audiovisuals are top-notch! Great job there. The theme is also well-respected and I though the work part was hilarious. However... what's the point of playing the game? You eventually die anyway and there's seemingly no reward playing it. Maybe if it had checkpoints, a scoring system and/or enemy waves it would've been great. Also, the isometric perspective, while cool, makes for a few missed shots. It would've easily been a 5/5 if the gameplay was more polished

One More Year by EvoGenGames 2019-04-30T09:03:04Z

This gets points just for being a game on M I C R O S O F T E X C E L!!! I love it!

Coin Collector by NChalakov 2019-04-30T08:04:04Z

That one was quite interesting. The music is kinda creepy but I like the concept, and it goes well with the "currency" part of the theme. I'd have loved a bit more variety though, replaying the same level over and over gets monotonous IMO. It would be nice to have a few more levels in and maybe have the game get much harder as it goes on, for example, make the coins fall faster and have the fee much higher. Still, I'm a sucker for arcadey games and I thought this was a fun little game :) - Good job!

Space Shooter Redux 2D by Heldernogunity 2019-05-02T17:22:44Z

Great concept, simple yet fun. However, the bullets' sound gets a bit annoying after a while and I feel like it's pretty hard to hit the asteroids. Still had fun with this, I think you're onto a great game :)

My first Ludum Dare Game : Black Market by Inlinkcraft 2019-04-29T16:05:22Z

It was a bit hard to click on the guys (but then I played with a trackpad so there's that). The graphics and sound could've been better though. I did have a chuckle when one of those chaps jumped off the cliff though so that gets points in the humour category. Maybe with some polishing it could be a fun idea

Cowry - A game about change by johanhelsing 2019-04-30T07:47:58Z

Now this is original! I loved the mechanics and I though the game was pretty funny. I would've maybe wished it was a bit longer but the innovation, mood and audio sounded great!

Delta Fighter by LiauJ 2019-04-29T15:45:50Z

Fun little game, I thought the graphics looked neat! Reminds me of After Burner a bit :) Well done

The life of Cirkat by maloy 2019-05-14T16:45:09Z

Not bad for a first NES game. Obviously it can look much better but I appreciate the effort in coding your first NES game for LD of all things

The Stranger by Vectrex28 2019-05-02T21:45:14Z

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I'm very glad that it seems like you're enjoying my game, I really appreciate it :)

Some people mentioned the font being hard to read, and I guess demoscene-inspired fonts aren't everyone's cup of tea :P - but I tried making it not too illegible this time.

Definitely agree on adding a little indicator for when the enemies are hit but I didn't have enough time to add that sadly :(

@aterlamia That's also a time-related issue :P - If I had more than 2 days to make the game I would've added a check and gravity but again, time has run out.

@richard-jedlicka První pár obrazovek nejsou moc obtížné, takže já bych se tam snažil šetřit život a pak v tom obchodu bych si hned koupil pistoli a brokovnici a pár nábojů. Kdyby ti zbyl život nad 300 HP takže bych taky koupil boty, moct skákat výš fakt pomáhá po prvím obchodu (Sorry for the Czech but I spotted a fellow Czech in the comments so I had to :P)

@cheesepencil Thanks for taking the time to check out my game as well, I loved yours!

The Stranger by Vectrex28 2019-05-02T23:03:16Z

Hahahaha přesně tak ;) @richard-jedlicka

Collecting Really Nice Cats! by cheesepencil 2019-05-02T17:39:25Z

Meow? MEOOOOOOW! I just played that lootbox memegame and I thought I found the winner in the humour cat-egory. Turns out I was wrong. Not only is it fun to play, but the graphics and the sound, as well as the take on the theme are all top notch. Best game I played so far for this LD. Major kudos to the creator

Collecting Really Nice Cats! by cheesepencil 2019-05-02T17:40:03Z

Also please, PLEASE continue making updates for this game I'd totally buy a fully-featured version

The Price is People by Scofflaw Games 2019-05-02T17:16:08Z

Hilarious and fun. I like how the glitches add to the fun, it's the quintessential "It's a feature!" game :laughing:

LD46 — Keep it alive

Keeping SNES Alive! by drludos 2020-04-21T08:05:25Z

YES! Another LD entry for a retro console! I thought I was the only one who bothered making a retro game this time. And a fun little game to boot :) Only thing I'd have added is variable jump height by pressing the jump button longer, but it's just a small nitpick. Great job!

Is it wrong to feed haterz to my plants? by khaotom 2020-04-20T09:25:08Z

I love how the plant just gobbles up the people hahaha. Simple game but gets the job done once you figure it out. I think in-game instructions and/or a better UI would've been appreciated. Keep up the good work

Unicorn by JacksGamesSucks 2020-04-20T21:37:33Z

I love the graphics, I think they're very charming. However is there a way to reload the game after you die? I have to refresh the page which is mildly annoying... Too bad because the game itself is fairly decent. Also I managed to jump over the left wall at the beginning and ended up in the Void :P

- L I F E G R O W T H - by Samusoidal 2020-04-20T09:33:27Z

Love it! Very charming and original game, and has some interesting puzzles

Final Flower: Petals of a Lost Age by Scott Steffes 2020-04-20T21:31:05Z

Fun game, sot some of the high scores :D I love the UI, and the audiovisuals are pretty good in general. I did get a glitch though, when you break the flower at the same time you finish a level, there is an overlay of the game over screen that stays on your screen which is very annoying...

Tomb Of Ice by Vectrex28 2020-04-20T03:17:20Z

@rafael-pontes Ran out of time for sound sadly... Thanks for playing :)

Beware the Dark by Lone_Wolf 2020-04-20T20:40:06Z

I like the graphics, the audio, and overall vibe. I would however add some variety to it, maybe different types of enemies - I feel like it's a little basic. Good effort nevertheless

Windy The Indie by Douwe_Ravers 2020-04-20T21:44:29Z

Fun game, on the easy side but it's not a bad thing. I thought the premise was fairly humourous and the gameplay is super fun. With some polish I think it could be something really fun :D

Goddle Royale by yigitserin 2020-04-21T08:56:37Z

Interesting take on the theme and I thought the game was pretty decent. I'd have loved more in the way of graphics though...

Hamloon by NoelOskar 2020-04-20T02:41:41Z

I'll second the scene progression bit, I thought it was a really nice touch. Overall this has the potential to be a good arcadey game, I've had fun with it. I think it would benefit from making it clear you can drag the mouse around (at first I was only clicking the nails), and from some enemy variety. Not bad :)

TimeSlayer TM by GoblinQueen 2020-04-20T02:46:00Z

Very original and is on point with the theme! Kids these days will never know the struggle hahaha! Gameplay is a bit hard at first but I'm guessing it's part of the experience, especially with those brilliant instructions My favourite game so far!

Ribbiton by Bearwey 2020-04-20T10:08:15Z

I like it, really reminds me of those old DOS games. Had a blast playing it. However, hitting the monsters with the sword was a bit too complicated IMO. Still, it was fun trying to get to the end. Also I loved the ghost :P

Feeding Time! by ghostonline 2020-04-20T09:42:07Z

I loved it, really gives me a Flash game vibe (Not in a bad sense, reminds me of some fun games I used to play on Newgrounds). I love how the dog gets progressively stronger, and the challenge is fair, too

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-20T02:35:18Z

Nice little physics-based game, I like it. I was wondering why the dog was having a smoke... And the ending screen was priceless :P I'd second improving the UI a bit though, even though it's nothing too bad

The floor is lava! by CuriouslyCory 2020-04-20T02:20:49Z

It's quite the hard game, tho that isn't necessarily a bad thing. The little critter is cute and I kinda like the sounds he makes. I'd switch up a few things in the level design (Character bounces off the walls for a long time until you can regain control of him) and the difficulty level, but despite those nitpicks it's a fun game.

The 24th Century Surgeon by DeSpiciestBoi 2020-04-20T21:52:10Z

Hah reminds me of Operation! Well done :D

Keep E.T Alive by Saviqq 2020-04-20T16:28:59Z

I gotta admit, I laughed at the sound effects, especially the beer getting poured down the IV. The game itself gets way too fast at some point, I think it would benefit from a better difficulty curve. Still, I got a good laugh out of it and that's always a plus in my book

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

EARTHWYRM by HolyBlackCat 2021-04-26T12:54:49Z

The worm sprite is adorable! Really nice graphics and a fun puzzle game to boot! Quality submission!

Now if only I could beat the broken pipe level...

Free Fall Tower by BerserkerChris 2021-04-26T13:37:14Z

I've played similar games and they can be quite fun. However, I do feel like this one is a bit rough around the edges and needs some improvements to be enjoyable.

First off, I think it would be neat to reset the score after you die. I'd like to see how many coins I can amass before I die :P Secondly, using the cannon is a bit awkward due to the scrolling, and it would be cool if you found a way to better aim at the enemies Finally, getting off screen disorients me and you should do something like making the player lose a heart instead of sending them zooming across the screen.

Other than that, the graphics are rather cool. I like the little character and the overall simple yet strangely effective style :)

Deepest Sword by Strega 2021-04-27T11:40:21Z

Absolutely brilliant! That's all I can say. 10/10

PS: How much of the double entendre was intentional? :P

PPS: Just over 25 minutes

LD Double Feature: D'pur & Deepir by John Chapman 2021-04-26T12:11:58Z

D-Pur? Is he related to the Luminoth? :joy: (Please someone get the reference)

Either way, I'd love to give it a shot but Windows seems to be throwing a fit when trying to run this... It say Windows doesn't have the necessary authorisations

Through Dimensions by potatolain 2021-04-27T02:10:48Z

Great little game, and it's always fun to see another NES submission. I managed to get all gems, woohoo!

I for one think the music and the little variations between the different layers is pretty cool, and being totally incompetent when it comes to making music, I thinl you did a great job making something relatively decent on the NES.

I also liked the character sprites, they were pretty cute. The BG tiles need a bit of work however.

Couple nitpicks though: For one, some of the tiles are hard to discern whether or not they're solid, so I often found myself trying to go somewhere that was solid. Secondly, there were a few minor glitches, such as jerky character movement and a frame of garbled screen (Gotta be careful with nametables when scrolling ;) ) - But that is understandable in a 48 hour game. Finally, as someone else pointed out, I didn't really see the theme until the very end with the creepier layers - it looked more like a parralel dimension thingy rather than going deeper and deeper.

Either way, a stellar submission (And I wouldn't be surprised if you got a better score than myself this time, we gotta compare our scores like we did in LD44 haha)

My Little Tree by chuckeles 2021-04-26T13:12:38Z

Despite you not knowing what to do in the game, I feel like this is a very relaxing game, and I don't think all games should be all about winning. Sometimes you just need a game like this to unwind :)

Great submission!

Mine Mayhem by Vectrex28 2021-04-26T07:43:58Z

Thanks for the comment @alexanderzone ! My last submission was criticised for being too difficult so I made it less so. Finding a perfect balance is hard haha 😅

Mine Mayhem by Vectrex28 2021-04-26T16:07:55Z

Thanks for the feedback @quinn-patrick Very much appreciated. Glad you enjoyed it :)

Mine Mayhem by Vectrex28 2021-04-26T17:07:00Z

@ristoretto Definitely thinking about looking into more fancy camera operations for sure :)

Also, I found a game breaking bug - The game has been updated and the changes were reflected in the game's description as per rules :sweat_smile:

Mine Mayhem by Vectrex28 2021-04-26T23:12:08Z

@cppchriscpp Hey I really appreciate the criticism, I think Ludum Dare is made just for that in order for us to improve on our gamedev skills!

It seems like the HUD is a bit confusing for some peeps, which I'll definitely keep in mind for future projects! Either way, thank you all for your comments so far and it's always great to see you guys playing/appreciating my game :heart:

Mine Mayhem by Vectrex28 2021-04-27T04:15:33Z

@2bitcrook Thanks for the feedback! Your submission was super cool as well :D I wish I knew how to make something that doesn't sound like rubbish as far as music goes :P

I definitely see the issue with clutter now that I look at it, I might go a little too far with the graphical details. If I ever go back to it *cough*ludumdaremulticart*cough* I'll definitely touch up on that.

Also kudos for noticing the Euro vibe, I always love it when retro connoisseurs notice ;)

Mine Mayhem by Vectrex28 2021-04-27T12:54:24Z

Aaaaand I think we're good to get a score! Thank you to everyone who played and gave feedback!

So far, the two most important lessons learned in this LD to me are:

1. No matter how good your tiles are, be careful about the placement!

2. The HUD needs a bit more tweaking

Again, thanks everyone for playing, and I'll keep playing/rating some more game for this LD :D

Mine Mayhem by Vectrex28 2021-05-28T01:10:43Z

@jupiter-hadley Download the rar file, unpack it, and put minemayhem.nes in MESEN

Deep_demo by Lighty_the_Light 2021-04-26T12:08:19Z

I really like the story, very moody! Graphics are pretty decent too. However, I ran into a bug. After getting one of the endings and restarting the game, I got stuck at the detective screen :( Also, I do wish the game had some sound too. Either way, a pretty decent submission :)

Inner Joe by Ulisses 2021-04-27T12:05:49Z

I love LD entries with a positive message, and it got surprisingly emotional at the end, owing a lot to the music. Gameplay part needs a few bugs fixed (sometimes I can fall for a very long time and not die), and some of the messages are in Portuguese, which I do not understand (and understanding the messages is paramount in a game with, well, *a message*.

Good job!

Enter The Golfeon by Steven C 2021-04-26T15:15:26Z

Wow!!! That was BRILLIANT! I've had so much fun just doing crazy shots and trying to find all of the secrets! (I only missed one :( ) Also, there's a few bugs such as clipping into the void or the game sending you back to the checkpoints despite not going OB, but other than these minor nitpicks this game was FUN FUN FUN!

Thank you for this excellent submission!

Enter The Golfeon by Steven C 2021-04-26T16:01:55Z

@steven-c I think it was right before you first encounter the red walls

Frog by cacciatc 2021-04-27T03:56:51Z

Oh! A fellow NES submission!!!

Fun game! The graphics look nice (especially the frog) and the music is especially good (@kulor never fails to deliver!). I do wish there was more graphical variety though.

Follows the theme pretty decently, too

Gameplay is fun too, especially the concept. However, I feel like it's let down by the bugs, such as the spikes not on the floor not hurting you, which makes the game a bit too easy, or having the bubble sometimes fire outside of the frog's mouth when firing them off the starting position. Also, is it normal that the ending crashes eventually? (Playing on FCEUX) I would've loved to let the sax song go for longer... Also, a little more content would've been nice.

Still, there's a really good game here that I enjoyed thoroughly despite my criticisms, and I really hope this gets developed further :)

Deep Paper by axeltherabbit 2021-04-26T12:39:28Z

Grrrrrr you got me with that "PS5 version"

First off, the graphics are absolutely unique and I love them. Very funny setting too, and the game has the potential to be something great. However, I only wish you implemented slightly better controls for that tunneé and maybe a radar so I know what's killing me when I attempt to fight the Catkren :P Also, it took me a bit of time to figure out what I was doing

Still, one of the best submissions so far. Love it! Great job!

LD48 - Pick and Slimes by popanoel 2021-04-26T13:28:22Z

I agree with the comment above, I wish I had something more to do. However, there is a decent idea behind this. If the mechanics were polished a little further and more features were added (such as an experience system maybe, or coins/shops) this would be pretty fun. The graphics are cute too

Falling Rock by David Horning 2021-04-26T12:15:41Z

Really nice concept, though I'm not very good at this XD

Kinda wish for it to be a bit more fast paced, wouldn't have minded upping the speed when jumping. A fun score game for sure :)

Fall by Mika314 2021-04-26T13:19:16Z

Is the cat gonna be alright? hahaha I like the music, though it took me some time to realise this was some sort of rhythm game. I like it

Deeper in Debt by NorthernDonut 2021-04-26T12:21:22Z

Hahahahahahahahaha the little butterflies are absolutely brilliant. Wish my clicks would better register though. Either way, you get a 5 in humour for the butterflies alone, they made my day

LD49 — Unstable

Fractured Edge by Samuli 2021-10-06T14:46:59Z

Wow! How does one even make a game on an oscilloscope in this day and age??? It's absolutely brilliant, I love vector-based games (I mean look at my username) and Metroid (I mean look at my profile picture), and this is the closest thing to Metroid Prime on the Vectrex! One thing I'd improve though (and I don't know if it could even be done) - The game is quite disorienting, especially when you get hit (though I dig the effect). Maybe playing it on a real scope would solve this issue though. Either way, best game I've played in this Ludum Dare so far. Bravo!

-Y- by Iluvatar 2021-10-05T04:09:57Z

Audiovisuals are top notch, really gives the game a mysterious feel. Very innovative game too. However, while it is a cool proof of concept, the game is very short. I'd have appreciated some more content. Understandable given the care that went into the assets, but even then it feels a bit frugal. Also, I don't really see the theme in this game. Not a deal breaker but I still want to point that out. Keep up the good work :D

SEXY BOOBY 95 by silkworm_sweatshop 2021-10-05T09:07:56Z

My favourite game so far! The random crashes and other classic Windows shenanigans made me laugh out loud. And it's quite an original concept too and fits well with the theme. Great job!!!

Improbability Fighter by Wendel Scardua 2021-10-05T03:55:23Z

Fun little game! I think the sudden changes to the ship nailed the theme, and the tree had me chuckle. Obviously the game could benefit from being a little more polished, maybe some background (even if just some stars) would be welcome, and fixing the slowdown issues when there's 4 enemies on screen would help too. I also wouldn't mind more enemy variety.

Other than that, I'm all for more fellow NES devs doing stuff for Ludum Dare and I think this is a great little entry! :)

Stronkey Kong by 100th_Coin 2021-10-14T16:34:58Z

I quite liked this game! It's a really cool homage to the source material, and the characters have a lot of... well.. character which I really dig. My only gripe with it is that scoring is a little slow-paced. Also, I think I found a bug where the barrels would stop in place if you build scaffolding right under the broken ladder. Great submission!!!

Dream Dog Dilemma by potatolain 2021-10-04T06:43:46Z

Great little game, I had a blast! While the game looks very similar to your previous entry in Ludum Dare 48, I think such a concept works much better for the theme in this one. A very creative way of using the theme with the NES's trademark "unstabilities", hah!

As for audiovisuals, while I think you nailed the audio aspect, I had a little trouble discerning what tiles were solid or not, but it's not that big a deal. Also, the game once respawned me on a crumbling tile which resulted in death while I was still processing where I reappeared.

Either way, another solid compo entry from ya. Pretty sure you could beat me this time, hah!

Megalomania by adam-gould 2021-10-06T04:09:34Z

Great game, had a lot of fun playing it. I really dig the take on the theme and would work great as some sort of Plage Inc. clone, hah! Only nitpick I have is that it becomes a bit of a waiting game near the end, I think you should make your influence rise faster once you get 100% in certain countries. Either way, a great submission!!!

Strong and Stable by natpat 2021-10-05T13:48:23Z

Hahaha, I like it. Reminds me of a boss fight in an 8/16-bit game. I crushed her in one minutetheresa.png

Orbitris by BOOtak 2021-10-05T09:27:50Z

Very original concept, but way too disorienting for me. I suck at this hahaha! Would've liked some sound as well. But still I'd love to see it more polished and intuitive, especially in order for it to get a broader appeal (I, too, am an impatient person lol)

Neon Saber by Kaish 2021-10-07T17:28:55Z

A bit on the difficult side but it was very enjoyable! Loved the whole Star Wars pastiche thing. Just wishing the player was just a little faster

The sound design was brilliant though, I especially loved the little "Ay" when you get hit, hah! The art style was lovely as well

Antenna Antics by Vectrex28 2021-10-04T06:49:46Z

Hey! First review! Thanks for playing the game. I wanted to make changing the signal "realistic", hehehe... Though it would be a good idea to tweak it a little if I were to refine this concept :)

Antenna Antics by Vectrex28 2021-10-05T11:00:26Z

@adam-jewell When it comes to NES, I only code in ASM ;)

Antenna Antics by Vectrex28 2021-10-11T11:25:54Z

@aldorado I know exactly what you feel, sadly I don't know how to reconfigure the buttons on the online emulator (I'd have chosen different buttons if I knew). I'd recommend downloading the file with the emulator and playing it over there in that case. Thanks for playing :D

W O B B L E by Gus Goucher 2021-10-06T15:42:39Z

Took me some time to figure out how to properly lift the crates, but once you do, it's mad fun! This might be the most fun I've had in this Ludum Dare so far. The graphics and music were absolutely brilliant and it fits the theme very well. This genuinely feels like a demo to a full game and I'd be ready to spend money for something of this quality. Great work!!!

W O B B L E by Gus Goucher 2021-10-06T15:50:09Z

Oh, the last stage was pretty cool too! Just the right amount of challenge without it being unfair. I think that was my favourite part

Skeleton Crew by ABRDs 2021-10-04T07:22:13Z

I guess I'll be the first one that will mention that your game looks like sus amogus haha funi.

Anyway, memes aside, I really liked how you implemented ladders in this. Sadly, the tasks were a little too cryptic, would've appreciated a little more clarity in how to figure them out. Might go at it again with the cheat sheet, I think it has some potential :)

Cool by KewDev 2021-10-04T07:09:27Z

I think I broke it hehehe...

uhoh.png

It's fun when you don't cheese it though. I think it respects the theme and makes for a fun little time waster. Maybe would've appreciated more content but nothing wrong with keeping it simple :)

Generation Z by Adam Jewell 2021-10-06T15:04:50Z

I think there is a good game in here. The concept of dealing with overpopulation as a means of instability, along with the zombies is quite cool. The minimalist characters are also pretty cool, reminds me of those "Mighty beanz" toys I had as a kid (or whatever they were called)

However, the camera kinda kills it for me. I think the game needs some more instructions within the game to let the player know what they're doing. I went blind and just started slaying humans, not knowing what to do. Some basic in-game instructions would've helped a lot! Same for when you die, I'd have appreciated a little "Game over/Continue" message :) I did also get some wonkiness out of the control which may not be that big a deal if the camera issues were fixed.

I might've sounded a bit critical here, but I'd still love to see another jam game from you in the future. I know LD deadlines are tight, but if given a bit more time I'm sure this could be a fun little game. Keep it up! :D

Generation Z by Adam Jewell 2021-10-07T13:34:11Z

@adam-jewell I've made a few of my own tools over the 7 or so years I've been coding on the NES, mostly for level editing. However there's also open-source tools available, such as stuff by Shiru.

It's also a good idea to have some basic engine templates you can build upon for later, like one for flip-screen gameplay, one for a multidirectional scroller, etc.

As for my source, I guess keeping it in one file may not be best practice but it's just how I roll, hah. I orientate myself with the search function basically and maybe with a hint of madness, haha

Temple Tumble by MatterLinx 2021-10-07T17:10:51Z

I think the controls are spot on and the graphics are pretty cool! I also really liked the gun variety in this game :) My only nitpicks would be to add more variety to the levels, maybe make the RNG a bit fancier. Also, the tiles sometimes fall from below you resulting in a cheap death. I'd have made it respawn you instead of killing you since it's quite hard to avoid and is frustrating. Still, I really enjoyed this submission. I wouldn't mind seeing more progress on this, especially with even more cool guns :D

False Angel by Jonah_SRG 2021-10-06T15:11:46Z

Hah, I dig it, reminds me of Kid Icarus (and I believe this was the inspiration for it). However, man that second stage is punishing. It'd have been cool if there were a few lives on that stage, or just it being a bit more forgiving somehow. Didn't get past it unfortunately. But I still really like the multiple genres, all quite fitting with the instability theme :D

Hello Darkness. My old Friend. by Aquachain 2021-10-05T09:45:26Z

Very well-designed game. I like how it shows you the different mechanics in the first few levels, yet the later stages are pretty challenging and use the game's mechanics to provide a great challenge. I had lots of fun trying to beat the last stage, even thought that time limit is tight... And being a meme connoisseur I laughed at the ending, haha

The Collapse by Cratthew 2021-10-06T16:01:00Z

I really dig the enemy design! I think the programmer are adds to it, haha. However, there's an overabundance of cheap hits on the final stage - I keep getting hit by the boulders without any clear indication on where they fall. Otherwise, it's a pretty decent game :D

The totally-safe-and-explosion-free Heist by Fonkin 2021-10-04T08:55:40Z

I don't know why but I kinda dig the programmer art "Among Us VS Pepe The Frog" :P I really like the fact that you've included several levels, it really does add to the overall "complete-ness" of the game. I think a little more variety in game/level design would be a good way to further this game's potential, along with some graphical improvements probably

The Leaning Tower Of Pizza by erikengineengineer 2021-10-05T06:20:36Z

Fun game! Love the slow-mo effect when it topples. Also a very good take on the theme

Could benefit from a faster pace though. Another fun thing would be to randomise the toppings on the pizza, maybe even the size of the pies which could work as a mechanic.

Still, it's fun enough for me to wanna play it more after work :D

Unstable Gun Fishing by pauljohnprogramming 2021-10-05T09:21:28Z

Hahaha, love the music! The game play is quite frantic, and while it does become quite fun once you get the hang of it, there is still a bit of a learning curve to it. Concept is pretty nice too. One little nitpick though - I don't really see the theme that much in the game. But the game is still great fun so it's no deal breaker.

Also, there is a bug that happens sometimes when I restart a round. Here's the error log I got

```___________________________________________ ############################################################################################ FATAL ERROR in action number 1 of Create Event for object obj_surface_manager:
LD50 — Delay the inevitable
Tick Tack by ryupold 2022-04-04T14:17:22Z
It's like that old Flash game called "The Classroom" I used to play when I was little :)
It's a shame it's so simple, and reading the description, there's some lost opportunities with the extra stuff that could've improved the gameplay of "The Classroom". I mean I've wound back/forward my fair share of clocks at school hehehe. Also, I don't really see the theme in the game, that's my one big nitpick.
DeckHex by Iluvatar 2022-04-04T13:38:57Z
This has to be one of the moodiest games I've ever played in LD. Really gives off classic point&click vibes. Nice twist with the theme too, took a little while to happen but it was worth it. Definitely a great entry
Stallar by Wendel Scardua 2022-04-05T14:00:54Z
At first I thought "This is short, and where is the theme?". Then I tried grabbing that final coin, and that's where I realised this is quite brilliant. I just wish there was an end, but nice little bit of deception in this entry and a really good use of the theme!
Feline Flood Fiasco by potatolain 2022-04-04T11:49:46Z
Wonder who'll take the cake on this Ludum Dare, hah ;P A bit shorter and easier than your other LD games, but I still quite liked it.
If I could improve anything, I'd use a darker blue for the water since I felt like it looked a bit too similar to the walkable blue tiles.
Also, some of the puzzles were a bit on the easy side, but that's just me. Some of them did challenge my mind a bit on the other hand. If they could scale up in difficulty as you progress through the game instead of being all over the place. Other than that they are quality and are an absolute positive overall.
The music is your standard fare, that is simple yet effective.
Overall, another quality NES Ludum Dare submission :D
PS: Is it just me or did we both made games that feature rescuing cats from impending doom? (Well, I have cats among other characters...) Great minds truly think alike, hehehe...
Secret Mission: Datastorm by Sentmoraap 2022-04-08T11:12:34Z
I really love the vector aesthetic of this! Though I haven't been able to get too far sadly, the yellow blob always catches up with me and kills me. Seems like I gotta quit to restart too, really would've appreciated a game over message and the ability to continue.
I still quite like the concept though, and I'm sure this could become a really good game without the obvious deadline of the compo :D
Super Crusher Fighters by Vectrex28 2022-04-04T13:18:22Z
@taffaz Are you playing on the browser? I believe the emulator on Itch uses the enter key as start. If that doesn't work there is a ROM and emulator included in the source code package in the downloads :)
Super Crusher Fighters by Vectrex28 2022-04-04T13:45:25Z
@Taffaz Could've been my bad, I tried reuploading the emulator and it seems to work fine now :D Either way, thanks for the feedback :)
Super Crusher Fighters by Vectrex28 2022-04-04T13:46:50Z
@paroxysmal Hah, you got there right in the middle of technical difficulties. Try again now. If that still doesn't work then I'll try figuring something out tomorrow or something
Super Crusher Fighters by Vectrex28 2022-04-04T15:02:48Z
@benjamin-gare Yeah the teleporters are a bit finicky sadly, you can jump over them to avoid getting TP'd back though
Super Crusher Fighters by Vectrex28 2022-04-05T13:36:00Z
@arzi Pressing B switches to placing mode, then you select crates/super crates with select/Up/down, and press A to place a box :D
T Knight againts the Hydra by Becher 2022-04-04T13:26:43Z
Simple, but lots of fun! The hydra looks super goofy and I love it. Good use of the theme too! Maybe just wish there was a bit more variety like a few extra monsters attacking you as you fight the hydra, and some sound as well. Either way, a very solid compo title!
Fifty Dollar Smash by Benjamin Gare 2022-04-04T14:00:12Z
Same here, same dll missing :(
Fifty Dollar Smash by Benjamin Gare 2022-04-04T14:11:55Z
Works for me! Reminds me a lot of Smash TV, if Smash TV was made for Ludum Dare :P One positive I can find is that the difficulty progression is actually pretty decent. With a faster pace, more weapons, and maybe a sountrack, it could be a fun infinite arcadey shooter :)
Cat Fragmentator by Recher 2022-04-04T13:51:04Z
I love the cat pictures, hahaha. Game is fairly basic but it really works with the theme. Also wish there was a bit more sound.
Malpractice by ikelucas 2022-04-08T10:50:34Z
Pretty cool concept, and I love the overall humourous tone of the game.
CigBan by Bassilij 2022-04-04T14:06:35Z
Well that's a fairly radical solution to such a problem, and all I can say is: "Shit..." - It actually made me laugh out loud when I accidentally shot the poor lad!
Other then that, the main issue with the game is that it's repetitive. At some point I just ended up actively trying to shoot the son instead of the bad things. I think it could be improved with a side objective like an easter egg hunt or some extra targets.
Penguin Rituals by mmisspelling 2022-04-08T11:00:32Z
The music is pretty tight, and I like the story quite a bit. Getting the orbs is a bit hard though, especially with those time limits, and I feel like it's a bit too simplistic. I think it'd have been cooler if there were some goodies to collect in the water for instance. Also, I wish the player on the map went juuuust a little faster. Either way, good submission! :)
Bossfight But- (READ DESC PLS) by GM637OFFICIAL 2022-04-08T11:03:48Z
A bit hard - I'd have made it go a little slower... I really like the picture effect at the end :P
LD53 — Delivery
Strange Week in the Dungeon by PavelDlouhy 2023-05-02T03:02:08Z
Very cool game! I love that 3D effect, the whole game reminded me a lot of a game on the Atari 800XL. Got a bit lost and gave up on the 5th day but it still was a great experience :)
Beep Boop by Iluvatar 2023-05-01T13:55:37Z
Hahahahahahaha Pitomio the Policeman!!! Great game as always - Witty dialogue, great graphics, and very polished presentation all around. Really like the little touches like honking the horn or buying new cars. Extra kudos for the music, especially the car dealership. Really impressed me. Either way, I was looking forward to your game and this one certainly didn't disappoint. It is your best LD submission that I played so far and the best I played in the Jam till now. Bravo
After Curfew by machinescreen 2023-05-02T17:25:54Z
With a few extra touches this could be a classic horror game. Loved the early 3D-esque aesthetics and the feeling of dread, it's nice to see someone attempt something like a horror game in a jam and actually succeeding. I wish there was just a little more things to do - I'd certainly love to see some post-Jam improvements to this game because I'd get this if it were a full game!
5-STAR by Wendel Scardua 2023-05-02T15:56:04Z
I loved seeing the critters buzzing off with your food hahaha! Simple but I liked it :D The graphics were the best in your projects thus far by the way! Shame there was no music but the sound effects were cute and fit the mood really well. I too would love to see a more fleshed out version of this down the line.
Inbox Fool by 100th_Coin 2023-05-02T02:39:51Z
The dialogue made me laugh out loud a few times. Combine that with solid gameplay, great graphics and music and you got a winner. Top-tier entry!
Holding Out by Jeremy Ryan 2023-05-04T12:41:19Z
One of the best ones I've played so far on this Jam. Love the overally character design, cute and goofy as they come :D - The music is also excellent and very fitting for the theme, gives the game a lot of charm and that kept me playing. And finally, the gameplay is simple but super satisfying. I'm a big fan of games like this and I thoroughly enjoyed this (Though it does get hard after the third delivery, haven't finished it yet). Thanks for making this!
Boxbrawl Delivery by Cruise Elroy 2023-05-02T17:11:02Z
Loved the homage to one of my favourite arcade/Black Box games. It really nailed the look and feel of those early NES games and almost made me want to port it to the NES myself being that weirdo who makes NES games for LD :joy:
Absolutely brilliant!!!
Banish Pit by Firebelley 2023-05-01T15:34:54Z
Pretty decent game! Though simple, the graphics were really well done, and the music wasn't bad either. However, while the game does get fun eventually, I think the controls take a bit too long to get used to. Would've loved to have a more straightforward punching ability and maybe not having to jump to activate the punch. I'd love to see this idea expanded upon after LD because punching those demons around sure can be satifying :)
Flingshot by John Gabriel 2023-05-01T15:17:53Z
Simple idea but very fun and fits the theme to a T. Would've wanted it to be little more fast-paced but that's just me (and just a tiny tiny nitpick really). Either way it's brilliant, and I really liked that music too! That electric organ sound reminds me of early SNES classics like Magic Sword and ActRaiser :P
Dungeonfalls by Majadroid 2023-05-01T15:54:13Z
Awesome way to expand on the classic Tetris/Columns formula. The graphics were really well done, too, and the music was very relaxing
However, I think it still needs some polish in some aspects. I would've loved if you could shoot some magic to destroy blocks for instance, as one slight mistake could take a very long time to repair.
Also, some of the controls get me a bit confused at first, particularly the lock feature and the rotation. I think they would feel better if rotation and lock in were close to each other, maybe KL instead of Up and Space.
Still, even though I might've been slightly critical on the gameplay, I'm a big sucker for these kinds of games and I would love to see this great idea expanded upon :)
The Convoy by Vectrex28 2023-05-01T10:45:54Z
@whizbang Ah right, thanks for pointing that out. I need to update the page later, made this while sleep-deprived :P
The Convoy by Vectrex28 2023-05-01T12:46:53Z
100% assembly! Doubt you could acheive this on NESmaker :P
The Convoy by Vectrex28 2023-05-01T14:04:18Z
@john-gabriel The scrolling is an absolute mess and almost broke the game several times :joy:
The clouds are done with 9 sprites behind them and using a side-effect of the sprite overflow flag to acheive stable timing. Sprite zero is used on the status bar for the scrolling and palette swap, but in order to save at least *some* runtime I used a DPCM trick to generate an IRQ that happens down the screen, then use the sprite zero hit to stabilise sync down there (And even with some concessions there is moderate slowdown if you get the Spread powerup :P )
The Convoy by Vectrex28 2023-05-01T16:49:23Z
@100th-coin Wow! Thanks for making a whole video about this! Glad you've enjoyed it :P I wish you luck sifting through the source code since you mentioned that... It's not commented at all except for old excerpts from my base/template project :joy:
The Convoy by Vectrex28 2023-05-02T03:45:00Z
@lisyarus Ah good point, updated the controls description on itch to make it easier to understand :)
The Convoy by Vectrex28 2023-05-02T12:23:30Z
@paveldlouhy Oh wow, and I thought it was too easy hahaha. Have you tried shooting diagonally? (From what I've seen personally people surprisingly didn't figure out you could aim, should've added more design elements there). Either way thanks for the feedback, appreciate it (Gosh I wish I could have someone playtest during the Jam :joy:)
The Convoy by Vectrex28 2023-05-02T13:07:45Z
@paveldlouhy If you download the source code there is an emulator included. You should be able to redefine keys and use a joystick with that build :)
The Convoy by Vectrex28 2023-05-02T15:57:44Z
@chum-chum You can download the ROM and play it in an emulator - most of those support controllers. I recommend MESEN and I've actually included a build of it in the source code :D:D:D
The Convoy by Vectrex28 2023-05-03T03:22:36Z
@firespike33 I actually had a much stronger flash in the background when hitting the boss at first, but it ended up being potentially seizure-inducing so I had to tone it down
The Convoy by Vectrex28 2023-05-16T08:54:19Z
@sodoj When I started out, there only was the Nerdy Nights to go off of. These tutos were barebones but got the job done. Nowadays there are more resources available. The best way would probably be to look around for NES assembly tutorials on your favourite search engine. Another great resource is NesDev.org - They have a wiki, forums, and a discord, so that place would also be a sure bet. Thanks for the feedback by the way, really appeciate it :D
Very Good Happy Joy Play 3000 by poboy 2023-05-02T17:52:47Z
I gotta say, I laughed quite a few times at the ridiculousness of those games (and that's a good thing). It's like Wario Ware meets obscure underground Newgrounds flash games and I loved every second of it. I love seeing more surreal games :D
Delivering Better Worlds by T C 2023-05-02T02:52:50Z
My score was 2670. I quite enjoyed this entry, but then I love puzzle games :P - Would've loved a few extra levels though. Graphics were solid, had an EGA PC game feel to them. Sound was decent as well. Good game :)
Andromeda Delivery Service by lisyarus 2023-05-01T13:26:48Z
Very nice game! I loved making those messes of contraptions and fly them around the place. Though as another user mentioned, I too would have loved if you could be incentivised to venture further out into space to get more valuable pieces :) Either way, a very original concept and a great submission
Super Pizza Kid by CaliceDev 2023-05-01T13:10:20Z
Not bad at all! Quite liked it in fact. The graphics are very charming and so are the sound effects. Just with there would have been music to truly complete the package. The controls are a bit slippery but I ended up getting used to them in the end and finished it no problemo.
My only gripe with it is that there are a few bugs. On some levels you could just go left and it would clear the level. I also once got stuck in the top left edge of the topmost block in Level 7 (Thankfully going back to the title fixed that).
Still, a good effort and a great submission :)
Commutator by Sodoj 2023-05-02T17:36:29Z
Oh wow. This sort of stuff has to be one of my favourite things about LD - there's always going to be one game where the person went above and beyond as to what platform to run the game on - and it looks like we got a winner for this jam. Top stuff!
Rain On Their Parade! by TomasPraestholm 2023-05-02T16:17:16Z
Very cute game! Loved the artstyle and the chill vibe. And the music was very well done too. Honestly this has so much polish it almost doesn't feel like a Jam game. The use of the theme was very well put as well. My only very minor nitpick is that sometimes when you get to the far right edge of the screen, you accidentally rain on the people you're not supposed to rain on, maybe it would be nice if you could see what's coming ever so slightly in advance to avoid getting a miss without knowing in advance. But that's just a minor nipick really, congrats to the team on releasing a quality production :D
Also... Clouds and Crows huh?! And with a level reminiscent of last Jam's theme... I refuse to believe you haven't seen my unfinished game of last jam hahahahahahaha - too much a coincidence :joy:
Infernal Express by BonzoChuff 2023-05-02T16:58:28Z
I liked it. Controls did take some getting used to and even when I figured them out it took a little while to adjust but I still had a blast when it clicked. Great twist on the classic Death Race formula.
