A neat little package of a game. Didn't get to see penguins kiss.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD50 → Penguin Rituals

A neat little package of a game. Didn't get to see penguins kiss.
Cool concept, I guess guarding the island against destruction is not an easy task, which explains why I struggled so much with diving back up :D
Nice contrast between the cute penguines and the story. The island is perhaps a bit large considering the content, but I appreciate the nod to this because yes, I am one curious little dude!

Good job!
I love these penguins.
Simple game but the story and the interaction make it special.
Those time limits were pretty tight!
I enjoyed the personalities of all the penguins. There's a lot you can get across just from character design and a few lines of dialogue.
Great job!
Very cute little game and clean execution ! One of those orbs really was a challenge, the one on the east I believe... that also got me to ragequit, but the other ones were easier after that one. The dialogs were pretty funny too. Nice entry, good job !
Nice little game. Very chill and relaxing. Not too hard, just enough to get you focused during the orb diving phases. Well done friend :)
Nice little game :) good dialog
Wow... This music is *SERIOUSLY* atmospheric; seriously, that's an EASY 5 stars from me! Even though the graphics were rather simplistic. But the gameplay picks up that slack!
I'm a BIG fan of game progressions that involve repeated actions, so the orb challenges were very satisfying to me. And not to brag (even though I am), I was able to complete 2 of the orb challenges first try.
I type from my heart when saying this, you two did an ASTOUNDING job here! Absolutely wonderful game! And yes, I AM a curious little dude.
I guess I wasn't a curious little dude because I didn't find that part that some of the other comments did, lol.
I actually found the "hard" orbs easier to get because of the increased time limit, because it took three tries to get the first orb up north but the rest were all first tries for me, lol. I wish there was feedback about having touched the orb - I kept getting nervous about whether I'd made contact enough. Also wish overworld travel was a bit faster (might have upped my chances of being a curious little dude).
REALLY like the music, though, especially the diving music. Although, it was a bit crunchy, but as a fellow Godot user I get it & ignored the cronch for the rating. Mine's crunchy on mobile, but developing with the default audio settings in 3.4.4 made the PC one nice and not-crunchy, so you might look into your audio latency settings I think someone said was behind the cronch.
@ronanrory i am very very happy that you liked the game so much, this really means a lot <3
@papabirb you are definitely right - the orb sections could've been done better and the time window's a bit too tight... i also was not aware that there are issues with the audio, thanks for bringing it up, i'll pay attention to that next time!
Went to the first orb to the north (ravine dive), couldn't seem to be able to touch/interact with it?
I love that you made a game with penguins though, it's so cute
@hekateras yup I realized that I should've designed it to be a bit more clear, sorry about this ! you just have to enter the aura and swim back up before the timer ends
I liked this game a lot, the penguins are charming :)
The music is pretty tight, and I like the story quite a bit. Getting the orbs is a bit hard though, especially with those time limits, and I feel like it's a bit too simplistic. I think it'd have been cooler if there were some goodies to collect in the water for instance. Also, I wish the player on the map went juuuust a little faster. Either way, good submission! :)
Very cute plot! :3
I like diving as a mini-game and a drop controller, but the location of the underwater rocks has reduced the fan for me.
It seems to me that jokes that break the 4th wall knock you out of immersion in history. It's a pity, because the characters are very attractive and the world feels convincing enough to empathize with the inhabitants of the island.
You've got a very atmospheric little adventure.
I had some trouble with the first orb in the ice crevasse. Wasn't sure whether I had to interact with X, and couldn't seem to get anything but a game over at that point. Penguin is adorable! And I loved the little surprise change of pace from narrative to action.
The mini-game wasn't very clear to me and wasn't my favorite to control. The characters, dialogue, and the world I enjoyed though. Good going!
A different game, a world based on penguins is really special. I enjoyed the narrative and the "flying" zone...
Good job!!
This is such an adorable game. I like the sunglasses guy, damn he looks cool with those glasses.
That was a really charming game @mmisspelling! As I understand it, I ran into some bug where the timer ran down too fast which prevented me from getting back in time after touching the orbs. Nevertheless I really enjoyed my short time playing it on stream. The concept was original and seemed a little dark, in a Majora's Mask Clock Town sort of way (you must succeed or everything we know and love will perish!) but still pretty funny as well! @trace98 did a great job setting the mood with their music. Good job on the game and thanks for sharing it with me!
I really liked this. I could feel some similar elements to our game as well which made for an amusing playthrough. The humor was top notch!
I loved this! One of my favorite entries this jam. The characters are charming both in terms of design and writing, and the gameplay was engaging and interesting (the overworld exploration reminded me a bit of Yume Nikki). The orb sections were challenging, but not unfair. The music really set the mood, the game has this melancholy vibe which contrast really well with the cute characters. Overall, great unique entry. Please keep making games!
Definitely agree with @shumarie btw. Your world feels organic and lived in, the characters feel alive and distinct. When you throw in easy 4th wall breaking/cheeky self-referential jokes like that just for the sake of it throws all of that immersion out the window. You're in good company tho because I see that kind of stuff a lot on here. 😅 It's a writing crutch I don't think you need to rely on however since you clearly seem to know how to write charming dialogue.
it's fun, really, thank you.
