LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Behold by auxC 2022-04-10T11:59:09Z

This game was very cool! I got reeled in by the amazing gifs and stayed for the demonic oldschool FPS vibes. The controls feel nice and gameplay-wise it offers a good challenge! I will say that I was kind of clueless on what I had to do at first but I gradually found out and was having a lot of fun when I streamed it! The game could have really benefited from having more SFX in there. That being said, it's amazing what you all managed to do in so little time. By the way, I would love to know how each of you has contributed to the game (credit yourselves guys!).

My happy weedy farm by Marin0104 2022-04-10T11:57:41Z

This game grabbed my attention by being very eye catching and cute so I decided to play it on stream a few days ago. While I did read the instructions I was still very confused on what to do. Then I gave it another try today and had a much better run! By now I realize the UI is what confused me the most. For instance: at first I didn't realize the soil is marked with transparent icons to show a tile is in need of planting, weeding, watering or harvesting. Paying attention to these icons makes the game much easier! I was also confused by the big buttons at the bottom of the screen, thinking they were showing the amount of seeds I possessed. Apart from the UI, I also noticed the weeds become a little unforgiving as the game progresses. At some point I confined myself to grow crops on a single tile which got a little boring. I guess it also shouldn't be possible to grow crop in the water haha. That being said, the idea is nice and the game mechanics work very nicely. I really enjoyed the SFX and choice of music too. Did you make them yourself by chance?

Rising Tide by VivianMochi 2022-04-14T09:41:00Z

As far as LD games go this year, this is one that I keep coming back to! Absolutely love the choice of sound design and overlapping music as the tide gets increasingly more perilous. The music is awesome and makes me nostalgic for the Gameboy Color days. Did you make it yourself @nate954? I also really love grid puzzles in general so it absolutely blows my mind that you successfully managed to combine both minesweeper and picross into a functioning game (I'm not sure if that's ever been done before?). I will say, at first I wasn't sure what to do with all the weeds because they don't tell you how many jellyfish are adjacent to them. Then I learned to take that for what it is. My solution was to use resources strategically in order to cheese my way to the end (ie: take some hits, use shells, then dump all my leftover flags). I guess my only gripe is that sometimes it gets tricky to distinguish between shells, flags, jellyfish and even weeds. Section J is especially notorious for that.

Too Cute for Space Fights by YogurtTheHorse 2022-04-10T12:12:33Z

This was amazing guys! The graphics by @artemvodorez and @13x666 are super good and I'm amazed by @yogurtthehorse's programming (with ship reflections in particular!). To play as a maintenance robot on an aircraft in the middle of a space war is such a cool game concept to begin with and you guys also executed it really well! The music was nice and it jokingly got the point across that "this is fine" haha. It didn't seem to fit the space theme very well however. Other than that, I think the game was a bit slow paced: Moving around but also getting in and out of vehicles took a long time, especially when accidentally entering the wrong vehicle. It made gameplay a bit awkward but it was still very enjoyable! Excellent job.

Volcano by ABRDs 2022-04-10T12:15:20Z

That was a really cute game! You did both art and programming, right @abrds? Did you do music as well? It was pretty chill! Picking up items to offer to the unsatiable hothead was a lot of fun. Eventually I ran out of items and decided to see what would happen if the volcano got angry. That was the end of my playthrough haha. Absolutely sick game if this was your first endeavor into the realm of 3D. I wish there was a little more to it but I will say I had a lot of fun playing this on stream the other day!

Carpe Diem by Pomo 2022-04-10T12:02:12Z

Hey guys, I really enjoyed playing your game on stream the other day! @eduardo-kolody, awesome job on the stoner rock tunes which I'm going to assume were yours. Not sure if they were entirely fitting for the game but I sure enjoyed them! As for @gustavo-doo, super nice job on the neon visuals and @arthurds for putting it all together! I don't know what @thalisson did but I'd like to congratulate them too on doing their part (credit your game guys haha!). The game was super hard but tons of fun to play. I also feel it could have greatly benefited from having some sound effects in there. Anyway, thanks for sharing your game with me!

Highrail to hell by BadPiggy 2022-04-10T12:04:49Z

That was an enjoyable little game @badpiggy! I remember Red Archer from LD48. It seems all your games have those same appealing low-poly graphics and color schemes. Definitely an eye catching trademark! I played this game on my stream and while it was really short, it offered a nice challenge. The concept of angry people rushing into the room to beat you up was pretty cool. Had me on the edge of my seat haha! Great job.

Super Mowser Bros by Guilloteam 2022-04-10T12:08:45Z

Definitely not inspired by a certain plumber game! Very different from what I innitially expected though. First of all, I like that you star as the villain and how this game plays with the innevitability of the hero coming to save the princess. It's also not a platformer but instead a strategy game where you create buildings and minions to stop the hero. I thought it was a funny idea and really appreciated all the attention to detail. @clement-feanor and @michael-assing did a wonderful job on the art. I guess the BGM got annoying after a few minutes and it would have been nice if there were more SFX. Props to @jrevel for making the game feel so polished! This is a wonderful homage, thanks for sharing this on my stream!

The Assessment by Okamit 2022-04-10T12:10:16Z

The Assessment was a blast to play! @starerik did a wonderful job on both music and sound while @okamit's art was just wonderful and silly. @frasse's programming made this a real joy to play too. It all fits together so well! If I were to think of ways to improve the game even more, I'd say definitely add more minigames. There's good diversity right now but I'd love to see more. Maybe there should also be more minigame-related sfx. That's all I have to say on that though. Excellent game! Thanks for sharing this on my stream!

Penguin Rituals by mmisspelling 2022-04-10T12:06:22Z

That was a really charming game @mmisspelling! As I understand it, I ran into some bug where the timer ran down too fast which prevented me from getting back in time after touching the orbs. Nevertheless I really enjoyed my short time playing it on stream. The concept was original and seemed a little dark, in a Majora's Mask Clock Town sort of way (you must succeed or everything we know and love will perish!) but still pretty funny as well! @trace98 did a great job setting the mood with their music. Good job on the game and thanks for sharing it with me!

Timeless by shmador 2022-04-10T12:10:56Z

That was a really cute game @shmador! I didn't play it all the way through on stream the other day but I got to the end eventually! The graphics are nice, the puzzles are super fun and the music is really fitting. The color scheme is simple but cool and I enjoy seeing the attention of detail that went into the little animations. I was bothered by only a few minor details. Like at the end of the game I was hoping for a little congratulatory screen. And when climbing up, the player sprite suddenly lacks a lot of detail (she looks naked). That's just about the only criticism you'll see from me though. I had a fantastic time playing this!

Void Prison by Tadas Migauskas 2022-04-10T12:13:42Z

Ohh this game is adictive! Super nice game to pass the time with if you have a few minutes to spare. Great music, satisfying SFX, nice graphics, simple but super tight controls and a real challenge to play. I only find myself wondering who worked on what (credit your game guys haha!). I'm going to assume @martynas programmed it while @tadas-migauskas and @helzinko did art? Anyway, great job guys, I really enjoyed myself playing this on stream the other day!

LD54 — Limited Space

A Parking Story by Gao Ming 2023-10-05T15:08:29Z

Welp, this made me question my parking skills but it sure was a fun little game!

Whacky Sally by Narudgi 2023-10-03T17:36:38Z

Super appealing graphics! Hitboxes are a bit weird though. I'd love to see a more polished version of this <3

Seagull Island | L'île aux Goélands by Seb_degraff 2023-10-03T18:17:30Z

Viiibes mannn... I love the graphics, the puzzle elements, the mellow atmosphere, the way it allows you to build something beautiful within seconds. Even without a clear objective I had a lot of fun playing this! I got a score of 73, might try again later ;)

Vacuum Voyager by Killnaprimer 2023-10-04T11:28:45Z

That was great! Nice graphics and challenging gameplay. Very cozy game!

Redneck Renovation by Kylazaur 2023-09-29T18:59:49Z

The guy above me is stupid :)

A Pawfect Date: Pomo's Cozy Romance by Pomo 2023-10-03T19:26:26Z

Hey Pomo! Great to see another game of yours! Breaks my heart to see AI art in there but it made for an amusing intro haha. The boss battle is harrrd! I gave up at the gun part but I definitely had fun ;D

LD55 — Summoning

Doomsday Care by Kyrio 2024-04-29T17:17:56Z

That was a really fun and unique game! Loved the art and the fact that whatever you choose to sacrifice changes the type of demon you get to summon. The game was a bit easy, I was hoping for it to get a little harder towards the end. I also really missed having audio. Still, I'm always amazed to see games that actually run on old consoles making it into the competition. I'm really glad I found this fun little game, great job guys! <3

A Long Hello by gamebuilder 2024-04-29T17:25:44Z

Ooohh this game really took the theme to a new level! It could have worked as just a point-and-click adventure but controlling it by keyboard somehow turned it into a completely different experience. The graphics and music really make for a somber vibe. This was definitely a mood, I love it.

@jesse-j-jones thanks man super appreciate ya! If anyone is reading this, be sure to check out Jesse's game [I found my brother's old cartridge!](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/55/i-found-my-brothers-old-cartridge)! If it doesn't win funniest game of the jam I don't know what will

@save-sloth-studios if I had more time I would have loved to do a more platforming oriented level and include some enemies before actually moving into full on panic mode haha. Thanks for all the kind words, I'm really glad you enjoyed it!

@persepolis haha thanks so much, I'm glad you dig it!

@dan-allison Such praise, thank you! Yeah the gameplay is a bit short haha. Would have loved to do more expanding if I had more time but I'm really glad you liked the mechanics!

@monroelabs Thanks! Yeah I really wasn't sure if this idea was going to work out at all when I started working on this but I somehow pulled through! :D

@jupiterintardis haha yeah I see what you mean. The platforming could have used more work, it's definitely a bit janky. Getting stuck in the ceiling and all that :eyes:

@tinykidtoo thanks for the kind words! Yeah the increase in difficulty might have been a bit much and I agree it can be tricky sometimes to place demons in tight little corners. Glad to hear your enjoyed the experience :D

@oliver-richmeier thank you so much! <3

@fabula-rasa Aww man, it's really cool to hear you appreciate all these little elements I decided to put in there, thanks for the wonderfull review :D

@nuanda79 haha yeah gamemaker is pretty cool! I'm really happy that you enjoyed playing my game! Having a start and end to a playable game is a good mindset to have, I'll keep that in mind! ;)

Booking It by Whirlguy 2024-04-30T23:25:20Z

@jhax Yeah during development I just really enjoyed the thought of players being able to get creative with the summons and come up with solutions of their own, how cool of you to notice! :D

@skvader-418 I'm really glad you had fun! <3

@peachtreemcgee How fun of you to perceive the first stage as a sneaky way for me to ease players into learning to play the game through trial and error. That was definitely my intention when I designed that stage :)

@aweskybear thanks for the high praise! I'm not sure what you mean by capsule (do you mean summary or description?) but it sounds super important, so I would really like to improve on it! I can really get on board with those tactical compaints too, it could have used a bit more work haha. I made music for this game in FLStudio using several different VST's (most notably Chipsynth SFC and Quantum 64, which is free) and an interface to record guitar with. It was a bit rushed so I'm not too sure about the mixing but I'm still pretty happy. It got the job done! :)

@colisan that's super great advice! Thanks for the kind words, I'll be sure to look into those things! :D

@orbitaldot That makes a lot of sense, there's definitely some collission bugs in there! I can completely understand if that cutscene gets on your nerves as well haha. Funny that you should bring up the title too. I had no idea what to call it for a while and one of my friends came up with this. I thought it was absolutely perfect!

@goldyxen Oh yeah, definitely don't jump and summon haha! Damn I'm getting called out lmao, it's definitely not a wining issue! There's a bunch of collission flaws here that need to be ironed out but I'm really happy you enjoyed it regardless :)

I found my brother's old cartridge! by Jesse J. Jones 2024-04-20T16:14:18Z

Great execution dude! It's real fun to see your solo project! I was really impressed with how fast you pulled it off too. If this doesn't score top 10 on humor then I guess people must really be dead inside haha.

I love Plantwizzle :3
