The art in your game is absolutely stunning! I love the refraction effect in the glass-bubble! Game-play wise it was super-hard but I had fun playing it! :D The robot is super cute - I think it'd get a long well with the robot in our submission. :D

chusmimax 2022-04-05 01:15

Really nice looking with tight controls. You start working on a spaceship and end up on a cheese grater, recomended.

crychair 2022-04-05 02:00

Great Art. The controls could be be changed to help. WASD with ZX could be Q and E to make the game more fluid or use mouse buttons to hold instead. Teleporters seemed a little pointless with the welding craft being very fast.

13x666 2022-04-05 09:02

@mascoll Thanks a lot! The bubble reflection is totally @yogurtthehorse's achievement, I'm still shocked this effect was even possible, it makes more geometrical sense than it has any right to, lmao. And oh boy, was your submission fun! Yours is the first entry I've checked out in LD50, and it's one hell of a start, haha.

@chusmimax Thanks! Yes, in our game you're fighting for the *grater* good... (coughs) sorry. Your art style looks incredible btw, I'll be sure to check the game itself out once I get to a Windows machine. Good luck!

@crychair Thanks for the good points. About 60% of planned features were scratched due to insufficient time, so the rest is left pretty unbalanced :D Another day or two of work would go a long way, but yeah. Your game looks super interesting, Imma check it out right after I publish this comment!

ternox 2022-04-05 09:22

Art is awesome! Robot is cute.

noskro 2022-04-05 10:30

Wow. So far my favorite game of the jam. The artwork is amazing, the music and sound effects are spot on, and the gameplay is fun and just the right amount of frustrating :) It seems that there is an abrupt cut once the ship is destroyed and a new game starts. Had to figure out what happened the first time. But all in all a great game

nikaz 2022-04-05 10:31

I like that in the midst of a deadly battle, we repair the spaceship, listening to sweet music)

dogesquad 2022-04-05 10:32

The graphics are quite something. I love them. Gameplay-wise its simple and maybe a bit confusing at times, but its still reaaally enjoyable.

u-tsang-clan 2022-04-05 10:37

It was fun and looks great but the controlling was a little unpolished and there were some bugs that really interfered with the experience. It was very easy to soft lock yourself by placing two things too near to each other making both of them impossible to use? It still says press 'z' to use but it doesn't seem to do anything. You can also accidentally dismount off the ship into the void of space at which point you cannot get back onto the ship. I found the title screen though! Screenshot from 2022-04-05 12-35-58.png

voxar 2022-04-05 10:49

Very nice! The music does a good job of conveying the "aaw shit... oh well" mood. Super graphics and audio.

I didn't get a feeling that fixing things made any difference tho. Felt like the larger damage happened anyway and I'm only fixing cosmetic scratches. Perhaps that was the point to do just enough work to look busy while your environment crumbles.

Well I smiled while playing it and that's the important bit :)

wavertron 2022-04-05 10:49

Really great art, solid game mechanics. Perhaps just wish the sounds of battle were more visceral/exciting, but then maybe that wouldnt fit the cute style you were going for. The plugin/out felt a little bit slow, but then maybe that was by intention. Fantastic entry.

alexio-games 2022-04-05 13:17

I absolutely loved this game, super charming and the audio/visuals blended smoothly with the concept!

13x666 2022-04-05 13:29

@ternox Дуже дякуємо!)

@noskro Thank you! I had a ton of fun with Future Me Problem, too, to a point where my brain now wants to stack everythings around me. :D And yeah, the game start/game over screen is a litle too easy to skip by just pressing a button, noticed it too late to fix it. Just asking to press any button not used in the game would do the trick. Oh well, we'll do better next time!

@nikaz Yep, погибать — так с музыкой, right? :D Congrats on the Catocalypse, it's super adorable!

arianad 2022-04-05 17:39

omg the art goes so hard??? and the music is top tier, I loved it!! captured the atmosphere completely!!

unbugged 2022-04-05 17:44

Nice and original. I really enjoyed this one. The game ended just too suddenly, leaving me to think what the heck happened.

yogurtthehorse 2022-04-05 17:55

@arianad thank you! The art is done by @artemvodorez and @13x666, they are great artists! :)

@unbugged pleased to hear it! I suppose we may make ending a bit more understandable with a small bugfix when we get rested!

tieran 2022-04-05 17:59

Very cool game, even though it 2D it has depth to it and it works so well. I see what you mean when you said its similar to our game. The droid is so cute and the pixel animations are spot on, also the fact the ship gets dynamically destroyed is amazing.

Such a good job and a really fun game to play, congratulations to everyone involved

chilljams 2022-04-05 18:00

The art is excellent & very detailed, & the chosen music, while unfitting to the situation, is actually quite humorous because of how thematically out of place it is. I also really like the mechanic & concept of controlling around mechs to fix certain parts of a ship.

However, the gameplay itself doesn't do much to motivate the player to play the game. I assume fixing parts of the ship slows down the amount of time until the game ends, but that is never directly communicated, & the game doesn't give you any idea of your performance or time spent playing before booting you back to the title screen. Having the amount of time the player lasted in some form of end screen would make the game much more enjoyable to replay. Other than that, having some markers that show you what parts of the ship need to be fixed at any given time would be nice. Good job!

yogurtthehorse 2022-04-05 18:39

@chilljams can only agree with you :)

We had a lot of ideas and cool mini-map for indications, but timeeee. Only if we had one more day, eh!

she-wrote 2022-04-05 18:59

He is definitely too cute for space fights. The contrast of the music with the burning ship creates this amazing vibe, I love it! Amazing game!

13x666 2022-04-05 19:00

@chilljams Thanks for the critique, you're absolutely correct about that, seeing consequences of what you're doing is currently impossible. We planned a much more complicated system, but alas :) And yeah, we had a mini-map prepared, but got completely overwhelmed.

minimap.gif

Basically we chose to focus on all the audiovisual stuff to get the overall idea and mood across, and I'm glad to see we succeeded to some degree :)

13x666 2022-04-05 19:01

@she-wrote Thanks a lot! :)

archangel 2022-04-05 19:06

Absolutely great work! The animation for plugging out felt like it took a little too long and the "hold z" to repair the shield generator could use some sort of feedback because the first couple of time I tried I didn't think I was doing anything. Loved the game, can't wait to see if your team makes more games down the line.

yogurtthehorse 2022-04-05 19:08

Thanks, @archangel! You can check out our previous game from LD49 (it may be even similar to this one in some way) or check just other games on my itch: https://yogurtthehorse.itch.io :)

benjamm 2022-04-05 19:35

This is very cute and didn't take much effort to learn at all. I love that the face changes when performing an action, it's a nice touch

failuer 2022-04-05 19:54

Very, very stylish. One or more extremely talented pixel artists worked on this piece. Not just the style and detail in itself, but with an anything-but-safe color palette to top it off. On top of that; great choice of music IMO. And your bot's got some seriously sassy energy.

kaleria 2022-04-05 19:59

I like the game because I'm obsessed with cute little things and sounds. awww :3

metzkermeister 2022-04-05 20:02

Love the graphics and animations, gameplay is quite fun too. Though some kind of score or a timer which shows how long you've lasted would've increased the replayability quite a bit.

jimmothysanchez 2022-04-05 20:14

Great game. Great art. I think you did really well with this one. My only complaint is that there needs to be a little more feedback to the player. As the player if a shield is down, and my ship is on fire it's impossible for me to prioritize one over the other as I have no idea which is more important. I also feel like I'm doing things around the ship to improve the duration of my survival, but it's never really communicated back to me that what I did made any real difference.

firellon 2022-04-05 20:49

Wow, what a game! Art and music are spot-on, and the overall idea is so sweet I'd be happy to try and implement something like this myself ^^

The only thing I'd be missing is a good tutorial on how to keep stuff alive and well - although the hints were definitely helpful.

yogurtthehorse 2022-04-05 21:05

@firellon thank you for you kind words! And the game is tutorial itself -- just go around and look what is going on there :)

ollie-d 2022-04-05 21:11

That was a lot of fun! The music is hilarious given the destruction. I loved maneuvering on the welding cart so much that I used it rather than teleporting haha. Also I noticed that if you weld something then go back and re-weld it, it gets stuck in the permanent welding animation state

squaxcom 2022-04-05 21:13

The art and all the vfx are fantastic. Took me a few goes to get the jist of what to do, but was super fun.

tombuston 2022-04-05 21:32

As most comment said, the art is really great. The effect on the glass is really good. Animations are also very cute, you get really attached to this little robot. I liked the destructions effect and the different part of the ship you could repair. I felt like it lacked a score of some kind ? Like maybe a timer to see if I played better than my previous game.

Great work, well done

gelthan 2022-04-05 21:45

Incredible art style and effects. The game idea is pretty good but the keys are kinda confusing. Overall a great entry for the ludum dare! Good job! :)

trypants 2022-04-05 21:51

Solid entry! Great art, lovely music! 5 stars

david-york 2022-04-05 22:01

Extraordinary! Very beautiful game. Music was spot on as well. Very well done.

andrground 2022-04-05 22:24

Very impressive, amazing game! Artstyle is one of the best I've seen here, soundtrack fits really well. Interesting gameplay, I am shocked that it was done in 72 hours!

mrtroy 2022-04-05 22:36

Definitely lives up to its name!

ukulelefury 2022-04-05 23:01

Holy cow, this was fun! The concept is amazing. The art is incredible. The gameplay is really good. The bot is adorable. The sounds and all the details with space debris and particles adds a ton. The music you chose multiplies everything by 10.

proxy-games 2022-04-06 00:29

Love the art style and sound design here-the pixel art is very polished and charming, and is some of the best graphics in the game jam I've seen so far. The gameplay is simple and very easy to understand, and it makes the game approachable.

Nice work, guys!

nem 2022-04-06 02:14

The graphics are really impressive, it's a so high level :o !

At first I didnt understand what I had to do, I think I found out the majority, but I think I skipped a lot of interactions because it was too complicated to understand.

I'm a bit sad that it's not playable with a GamePad, and that there is not compatibility for AZERTY keyboard (African & Europans countries would have thank you for that), at least arrows are working fine ;) !

Well, it's an almost Five Stars everywhere ! Very good job !!!

chaoscomposer 2022-04-06 05:18

To echo a lot of feedback already, the art direction is incredible in this game! The team really nailed the chaotic feeling of being thrown into the middle of a hectic battle, and I love the idea of plugging into a variety of different tools to help repair the ship.

One thing that kind of confused me, though - I did a few runs and I'm not really sure what my frantic repairs are actually doing in terms of keeping the ship alive. The gameplay is really fun! I just don't really feel like I'm having an impact on whether the ship is living long or not. I'm assuming that having open cuts and fires is draining the ship's health faster, but if that's the case, since the health is displayed as individual hearts it's pretty hard to tell how fast that drain is happening.

Other than that I loved it! The music choice is amazing, and one thing I especially love about this is the way the map changes as the ship gets more and more damaged. Very nice entry!

melektaus 2022-04-06 16:52

That... was... AWESOME! There's just so much happening and I love it. Great work!

yogurtthehorse 2022-04-06 17:25

@melektaus thank you for feedback!

@chaoscomposer yeah.. We wanted to make better indication, minimap and other info, some more minigames, but didn't have much time :( Though, anyway we hope mood of the game is just right! ACtually shields-teleporters and gun makes life drain faster, but holes and fire happen more often :)

@nem thank you! Yeah, we hadn't much time for polishing, but that's the jam you know :( Understanding the game is just the way to play it :D

@proxy-games thank you <3

@ukulelefury ohh, so much kind words! Thank you!

@mrtroy the name was the hardest part, @13x666 made it in the last few hours :D

@andrground thank you! Tbh, last day I (programmer) spent 9 hours at office on my regular job, so actually it's a bit less :D

@david-york thank you! Music design is mostly on @artemvodorez

@trypants <3 thank you!

@gelthan decision for controls was done by me and it's just first came up to my mind, so it is a bit rusty, yeah. THank you for your feedback!

@tombuston I was thinking about time score, but due fact it's too random it won't be too fair. It should had been balanced for that, but timmeeeee

@squaxcom that's the way to play! :D Thank you!

@ollie-d wow. Didn't notice that bug. Heh. But it's only animation, though and it's hard to achieve such behavior as they not too close to each other

Anyway thank you all for playing!

mantsje 2022-04-06 19:34

Amazing! The art, the feel, the whole style. It fits together so well and feels so polished! Very cool game!

kat 2022-04-06 19:50

This game is amazing. Love every bit of it.

renge 2022-04-06 19:52

Really fun game! I wish there was something I could do to regenerate some of the health lost. I also found that my health was depleting even though I was repairing everything as quickly as possible (I guess that's the purpose and theme of the game). I loved the artwork and the main character!

josep93 2022-04-06 20:03

Wtf, thats ameazing. And the music is soo cute XD

mibehu 2022-04-06 20:08

Art style reminds me of Jamestown, which is one of my favorite bullet hell games. Very cute one!

luis-priego-cuenca 2022-04-06 22:02

Una autentica maravilla, lo mejor que he jugado hasta ahora. Desde la música, gráficos y lo divertida que es la premisa. Lo rejugue varias veces.

c64gamer 2022-04-06 22:16

This is one of my favorite games this ludum dare so far. Really great idea, awesome art work. Good job. Had a lot of fun playing it :-)

joedev 2022-04-06 22:54

The robot is so cute <3 Get them outta space and into somewhere safe! They tried their best but holy moly so many explosions :joy: Really good fun, very hectic, and a clear link to the theme. The artwork is faaaaantastic, as is the smoothness of the progressive damage to the ship - very well implemented and very seamless. Great job overall!

jamesolivermusic 2022-04-07 08:17

Lovely art and style overall! Great job

ocwal 2022-04-07 11:45

Wow this was both cute and stunning at the same time! Love how the music reminds med of the tv-series It's always sunny in Philadelphia. The game has kinda the same vibe. Everything will be chaos but why not simultaneously have a good time? Great work on this one!

velvetlobster 2022-04-07 11:58

I have no idea what I am doing but this does look amazing, kinda makes me wanna wait to see the details on the destruction level

Captura de Tela 2022-04-07 às 08.57.40.png

yogurtthehorse 2022-04-07 12:06

@velvetlobster check out this then :)

http://yogurtthehor.se/shr/ship_base.png

This also includes wires system backend we had no time to implement :)

jzucc12 2022-04-07 12:09

This might be the most accurate game title I've seen the whole jam. Between that little bugger's face with the music, that robot was very much in it's own little world of happiness. Poor little astromech deserved so much more. Great game!

velvetlobster 2022-04-07 12:11

wow now that is a beautiful pixel art @yogurtthehorse :open_mouth:

yogurtthehorse 2022-04-07 12:32

@velvetlobster cheers to @13x666!

itooh 2022-04-07 15:16

Really nice looking game! I how there is a tons of action going on on the screen, with even an evolution on the ships damages. It's irrelevant to the mechanics, but adds so much to the setting, making it even more funny. The mechanics are basics, but good enough to keep focused. Always a lot of of actions to do and places to check, yet the game stays nicely chill. The only trouble I had was the button to embark the vehicles being the same for activating them (instinctively I used the other button, which unplugged me instead), and small lack of feedback for some actions (generally holding ones). But overall, I had a very nice time with the game!

forgin-bits 2022-04-07 15:35

Very cute ! I loved the music, took me back to an amusement park or something, pretty unique for this kind of game, but it fits well together ! The glass effect on the middle part on the ship is wonderful. I did have trouble understanding what to do at first but kinda figured it out after a while. Beautiful entry, great job !

stefan-laimer 2022-04-07 21:49

That is the cutest game that I have played so far! The music also fits perfectly. Some kind of ending screen with how long you lasted would be great though. But other than that, really well done!

blooobird 2022-04-08 10:08

Increadibly cute and fun to play! well done on this one

amerigo-gazaway 2022-04-08 15:37

Amazing! Love the art and the music makes it that much more funny/cute. did you do the music as well? Little hard to figure out what I'm doing at first but the controls feel really nice. Great work!

f1krazy 2022-04-08 17:11

I love the graphics, that pixel art is utterly gorgeous. I love the music choice as well, the dissonance between the fiery chaos surrounding you and the cheerful music playing in the background is just hilarious.

For me, the gameplay is simple and easy enough to understand, but the difficulty ramp feels a little off. After one minute, there had only been one malfunction for me to fix, and after two minutes, malfunctions were popping up faster than I could even locate them, let alone go grab the appropriate tool and fix them. I ended up losing hearts without knowing what had caused me to lose them, and that's never fun. A few others have suggested adding a minimap, and I really think that would help with understanding what's happening where.

This is *so close* to being a fantastic game, it just needs a couple of tweaks here and there, but it's still a very enjoyable game regardless. Good work!

whirlguy 2022-04-10 12:12

This was amazing guys! The graphics by @artemvodorez and @13x666 are super good and I'm amazed by @yogurtthehorse's programming (with ship reflections in particular!). To play as a maintenance robot on an aircraft in the middle of a space war is such a cool game concept to begin with and you guys also executed it really well! The music was nice and it jokingly got the point across that "this is fine" haha. It didn't seem to fit the space theme very well however. Other than that, I think the game was a bit slow paced: Moving around but also getting in and out of vehicles took a long time, especially when accidentally entering the wrong vehicle. It made gameplay a bit awkward but it was still very enjoyable! Excellent job.

flyingkaida 2022-04-10 14:18

You know what, the astromech droid is right, it IS too cute for space battle! The music and the adorable little droid were just sooo good! My only thing is that the whole thing seem to be super superficial for the spaceship. Maybe something that displays how long you did keep the ship fighting? It's hard to tell if you actually helped or not. But still... THAT CUTE DROID!!!

kemsou 2022-04-10 15:35

Very nice art and mood. the gameplay idea is interesting, but for me it took too long to go everywhere and with the amount of back and forth (find the problem, go to the right pod, wait for the animation to finish, go back to the problem...) it was quite frustrating.

But with more traversal options I think it would be really cool. Good job for your game!

trexxak 2022-04-10 19:25

Too cute for Space Fights it is! Really liked the slick controls of the droid and the varying mechanics and animations for the "workstations" you can plug it in. Also really enjoyed the contrast of what goes on on screen and the elevator music in the background :D

binaryprinciple 2022-04-13 00:19

Wow! Just wow! I cannot imagine how you manage to make so much in so little time, but it was very clever to keep a single mechanic, with separated shapes and color for the tools. It was not that hectic and felt feasible to complete so I didn't feel that I was fighting the game. Amazing work on this one.

2022-04-15 12:18

Very pretty-looking game! Music is a funny contrast to the chaos going on, I suppose this is just everyday routine for our cute little friend 🤖 Seamlesser loop would've been neat. Took me a moment to figure out what to do but after that it became fairly self-explanatory! One thing I was never really sure of was whether the space rocks could hurt the robot directly or only the ship? Neat game! 😊

dgspitzer 2022-04-18 01:34

Super cute and innovative game! love it!!WeChat Image_20220417213353.png

jormarysky 2023-01-13 21:35

@yogurtthehorse You were right that there is some healthy amounts of Wall- E here!

yogurtthehorse 2023-01-13 21:36

@jormarysky haha. Hope you enjoyed!
