Very impressive amount of work with all categories quite well in balance. I was thinking that the shooting feels quite good, moving and dodging little less, maybe a lack of feedback on getting hit, but otherwise what more can we ask for 48 hours ;)!

I'll be back after I play ... but you have me at "a reality-consuming fish boss"

I died after getting the "You win" screen, and the game crashed. Outside of that though, great game, really well done!
Very chaotic but looks like it could be fun with a lot of practice haha
@doc-kaos Hahaha, I don't know how to port gamemaker stuff to Mac without, y'know, getting a Mac virtual machine set up, let alone the rest of the process. So, I'm sorry.
@cratthew Aight, I'll release a patch after work tomorrow.
Bullet-Hell Fishing! That is clever! I am really bad at Bullet-Hell games, so I am not sure if I got the most enjoyment as I could have with some more skill, but I will recommend this to my friends who are into this style.
For feedback, I would suggest maybe toning the difficulty curve a bit. Maybe start with letting the player just fish a bit before introducing the Boss. Feel free to disregard this if it is bad advice for bullet hell games, as I said, it is not my genre!
Cheers!

Hey, great entry! First and foremost, games should be _fun_, and this one definitely is. The boss is difficult to beat, the attention-splitting nature of the player interactions makes it challenging and engaging, and the overall execution of the "bullet hell" genre is really quite good here. The setting and music are quite funny and, especially the music, actually pretty well executed. I haven't seen(heard, I guess) that done before, and you pulled it off nicely.
I don't know Game Maker, but if it supports exporting just the executable and data (which you can then zip up), I'd recommend going that route instead of an installer. Those make me and a lot of other people anxious, and it's really just unnecessary for a jam. Also, being able to hold right mouse to shoot would be great!
@the-lame-brain Would that I could, haha. Initially I planned for a 30 second sequence of rooms where it teaches you each of the controls, but I didn’t manage my time well on the second day and had to cut it. But it’s great feedback and motivation to better manage time. Since I agree that a introductory sequence would benefit the game. P.S, did you know that the boss’s current sprite was actually supposed to be for the tutorial guy, but nearing the deadline he got a promotion, haha. In any case, thanks for the feedback.
@bloodyaugust Yoooo, thanks for the feedback. Given that Ludum Dare submissions are time-constrained attempts at expressing a game idea, it’s dope to read that players like you guys “get” what the game is trying to do.
Regarding the game exe in a zip file, that’s actually already a thing. If you click the .Zip link on the itch.io page, it is exactly what you’re talking about. My bad, I probably should have named it “zipped game” and not just source code, lmao
@pauljohnprogramming Oh, that's my bad, reading comprehension fail! :sweat_smile:
This was great! Took a couple lives to really figure things out but once I did it was extremely fun. I was surprised how intense the mouth music was! Good job on that.
My only real complaint is that I couldn't maximize it, so that led to me clicking out of the window once or twice and getting some pretty frustrating deaths!
I did come back and beat it though, the ending is also great lol
Hahaha, love the music! The game play is quite frantic, and while it does become quite fun once you get the hang of it, there is still a bit of a learning curve to it. Concept is pretty nice too. One little nitpick though - I don't really see the theme that much in the game. But the game is still great fun so it's no deal breaker.
Also, there is a bug that happens sometimes when I restart a round. Here's the error log I got
```___________________________________________ ############################################################################################ FATAL ERROR in action number 1 of Create Event for object obj_surface_manager:
Unable to find any instance for object index '7' name 'obj_entity' at gml_Object_obj_surface_manager_Create_0 ############################################################################################ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- stack frame is gml_Object_obj_surface_manager_Create_0 (line -1)```
Hey guys, thanks for all the feedback! I've pushed an update that should solve most bugs, and I *think* I know what's causing the bug noticed by @vectrex28. My hunch is that improper clean up of the surfaces is causing the surface variables' pointers to be misaligned. But regardless, I couldn't have done it without your guys' help, so thanks again.
The mood was really good, like the gameplay (and I won) ! I will never forget the soundtrack 😨
Please send me the soundtrack I'm addicted
Gameplay feels a bit chaotic, but the overall visuals and sound design are very fresh. And the ending is just great.
Short, sweet and I love it! It's really fun and quirky.
It's silly, well designed and very nice! I don't think I could even give any more feedback and that's really good! It's only a bit shame that there's no tutorial but it's quite easy to grasp once you know what to do. It gets really easy as well once you know what to do on the boss!
There is some way that you could turn that voice into actual notes but I haven't looked deep into it, but that vocal thing has it's charm~
Anyway, superb job!
Oh... and uhh... *please get rid of the EXE installer* it's really unnecessary when you have the ZIP file because I know people don't want any residual installer data on their hard drive.
Love the soundtrack, very original :) Not a fun that I needed to install it. The game is nice, it was fun to try it out.
@zimny11 Hahhaha, thanks I totally forgot to remove the .exe in the itch.io page. Thanks, and credited.
Seeing the boss consume was a really cool effect! The boss was also super lively which was really great to see too! The boss movement and bullet patterns were really cool and a real challenge. Great work on this one, it's a solid action game!
Love the acapella soundtrack! The gameplay is also really innovative and I'd love to see this game expanded upon with multiple levels
HEY I DID IT! Now that was some grimy underground punk rock shit, it hit full throttle from second one, especially since I hit Alt-Enter to fullscreen, which didn't fullscreen but instead skipped the explanation of controls and threw me right into the battle before I was settled. Well, so be it! And I stayed unsettled pretty much the whole way through.
And ain't nothing wrong with that.
Nice hectic crazy original action-packed entry.
Straight off the bat - the music and the transition into 'You're the winner!' were both EPIC, and certainly makes this the most memorable entry I've played. I think this is the first time I've rated high on humor, as it genuinely made me laugh. At first, I couldn't really figure out if I was supposed to be killing the boss fish or trying to kill collect the little fish things - but I guess they were just there to distract from the main task (I think I got confused because of the text on the first page about using the fishing-line on anything that moves).
