This is awesome! Lots of fun and the visuals for the levels are delightful. Well done!

pixelmonkey 2019-04-29 10:15

Simple but fun! I really liked the various environmental effects.

notlivingpool 2019-04-29 10:21

This game is one of the smoothest game I've scene on Ludum Dare, it is really fun and also the ever-incerasing speed of the rocks makes the mood of the game extrememely tense and playful. One obvious bug is the fire behind the jet, it is not rotating like it is supposed to, so fix that and the game will be perfect!

liauj 2019-04-29 10:38

Sorry about the flames behind the ship in the HTML5 version, it's not working quite like I expected. The Windows executable works the way I had intended; if it bothers you and you happen to be running Windows, please give it a try!

Thanks for the awesome feedback here. I had lots of fun for my first LD!

jani-nykanen 2019-04-29 10:57

A fun little game, I like the graphics style.

purpledartfrog 2019-04-29 11:39

Really well made :thumbsup_tone1:

heyitsleo 2019-04-29 11:44

The controls are smooth. Animations are great. I like how the backgrounds change. Sound effects are good. Pretty simple game concept but definitely works for such a short dev time. Not sure how it fits the theme but hey all good.

paul59 2019-04-29 11:47

As the others say, it's a fun game and I enjoyed it more than I expected. I think a few times I passed through a ring and it didn't register but no big deal as there are always more.

danidev 2019-04-29 11:52

Woah this is so cool!

* I love the graphics, very arcade-ish! * Controls are smooth and responsive, feels very good to play! * Overall just a well done game! Good job!

robowarrior1982 2019-04-29 12:27

Afterburner-like be back ! Cool and fun !

aplite 2019-04-29 14:03

Well made game! Really liked the retro graphics.

wesley-vong 2019-04-29 14:52

Its cool that you managed to make this game seem like some game found in arcade machines!

vinmh 2019-04-29 15:11

Very well made, really liked the graphics!

vectrex28 2019-04-29 15:45

Fun little game, I thought the graphics looked neat! Reminds me of After Burner a bit :) Well done

niteb 2019-04-29 15:48

Really liked the graphics, although it's sometimes hard to determine the distances!

xcvzxc 2019-04-29 16:34

Hmm, is this game infinite? Interesting idea of creating game with such perspective without using 3D graphics. The depth is noticeable thanks to increasing objects. On the other hand, in my opinion there should be more upgrades. Good entry!

chawls-v 2019-04-29 16:49

Great game! I like the graphics and it was fun! Good difficulty curve.

erudis 2019-04-29 17:31

Very good usage of 2d assets scale to give deep perspective. Nice sound effects and overall mechanics. I feel making so shooting would cost you life (instead of just missing the shoot) and score would have fit better with the theme.

mika-la-grand 2019-04-29 17:53

It's a pretty fun game. I did notice that the sprites for the thrusters don't rotate when you rotate the spaceship, they just float there not attached to anything. Also nothing was depleted from the shooting, the health only decreased when hitting an asteroid. It is also impossible to read the text on the itch.io page, because of the colour choices.

liauj 2019-04-29 18:02

@mika-la-grand Thanks for pointing out the text on itch.io, forgot I had a dark-mode extension running! And thanks for playing!

tasakasama 2019-04-29 18:20

the visual levels is really good cons I have not understood I do not lose any life whatsoever when I get touched or when I buy objects so I advance without really knowing why .... but c is really good

slimabob 2019-04-29 21:44

Nice game. Spent a lot more time playing than I expected to- surprisingly addictive. I think if you added a bit of music and some more powerups you could publish this game on mobile and it would do well!

How did you go about making the backgrounds? They looked sweet.

spooky 2019-04-29 23:20

I liked the gameplay! it is hard to determine the depth of the objects some of the backgrounds were a little too much and distracting

liauj 2019-04-30 00:15

@slimabob Thanks for playing! I have plans to go back and clean up the game a bit before shelving it for good, I'll definitely follow on your feedback! Backgrounds were created using Pixel FX Designer by CodeManu and DavitMasia.

jgltrindade 2019-04-30 00:20

It feels so good moving the jet! It's 3d effect using 2d assets made me a little dizzy, but they sure are pretty and impressive! Nice risk/reward system.

gao-ming 2019-04-30 04:05

cooooool

gao-ming 2019-04-30 04:33

Lovely art style!

gimblll 2019-04-30 07:02

Fun bit of space whack-a-mole. Good looking sprites and psychedelic backgrounds.

gilborn 2019-04-30 07:35

Cool game, liked the Fake 3D and well executed.

toasteater 2019-04-30 08:52

Simple yet quite fun! The background effects are pretty cool. The rings are a bit tricky to time vs shooting asteroids, but since they're not critical I have no complaints about it. This could really use some music!

grllle 2019-04-30 09:09

Wonderful game and cool change to the top down shooters. I suppose those are shaders for the background, i love them. Despite lack of music the whole thing feels really complete. And thanks for the noob option that allowed me to play through the whole game :)

cem-adiloglu 2019-04-30 09:21

love the game! i died on level 3 as I didnt have a mouse and used the touch pad but still enjoyed it :)

elq 2019-04-30 09:32

Reminded me of a good old aim game called aimbooster.

khaoz-fang 2019-04-30 09:51

Gameplay is common but very polished and fun. I like the fakee 3D eft best, it is the spirit of the whole game.

kukareru-sekai 2019-04-30 11:02

This is a very fun game. I felt like I cheated a little bit using the touchscreen on my laptop, but it makes me realize how awesome thing game would be on mobile devices. I'd definitely consider it and throw some more features in. You may have something here. I know I would have a blast poking at all the asteroids.

arimie 2019-04-30 11:53

Hey, nice entry ! Graphics are cool. Do this game have an end ? :)

pete-h 2019-04-30 12:14

Really enjoyed this, simple and well executed.

One thing I found tricky was telling when rings and asteroids were at the point they were either about to hit me or were ready to fly through.

Very nicely done, thanks! :)

liauj 2019-04-30 12:37

@arimie @XCVZXC This version doesn't end, but I think that most people wouldn't make it past 2 full cycles of the game (1 cycle = completing all levels), if they happen to play for that long.

If anyone ever gets past "Cycle 2 - Level 1" (not on Zen), you've beaten my best and I salute you.

Thanks for playing the game!

vinay-rao 2019-04-30 15:42

This game has a classic arcade game feel to it. The game mechanics are fun and well implemented. The flowing backdrops do a good job of selling the forward motion of the ship, which gives it a real sense of speed.

This game really made me want to play Space Harrier or Afterburner. That's not a bad thing!

Good job!

anstabo 2019-04-30 19:50

The ring level is a nice touch, the only criticism i can give is for the asteroids poping behind the UI

fatcrow 2019-04-30 20:27

Awesome work! I really liked the graphics and style for the game! Nice work on the sound effects as well, there wasnt too many of them but the ones you included in the game fit the mood perfectly! This game actually works perfectly for warming up your aim before playing FPS games! I have downloaded it and saved it for just this case in the future! Great Work! My only feedback would be is that it is a bit hard to tell when to fly through the rings, otherwise super amazing job!

powerspark 2019-05-01 03:09

Pretty fun! I liked the ring effect and sound, that was a great touch. Great job!

jamesolivermusic 2019-05-01 08:05

Nice artwork. More music could add intensity to the gameplay... and perhaps some kind of upgrade system and enemies?

pseudobytes 2019-05-01 11:55

I like it. The controls feel very responsive, which is something that people often mess up in these kind of games which can really ruin the whole game.

jofersgames 2019-05-01 13:37

Felt great to play, good job :)

kaeveris 2019-05-01 19:17

Really nice game, great retro feel, cool art and sounds. Awesome work!

ianlux 2019-05-01 20:18

Very good game! Loved the gameplay and the visuals! (Sometimes it gets a little tricky to see your aim thou xD)

oivin-f 2019-05-01 21:34

Fun, functional and interesting. I feel like the ring hitbox was a bit unforgiving, and there wasn't too much content or variety, but for what it is it is very satisfying

flashviper 2019-05-02 00:13

This is awesome! Shooting asteroids out of the air made me feel sooooooooooo cool!

joe-bustamante 2019-05-02 01:19

Really cool game! It was really smooth, great production value. The core mechanics all felt really good. The only real issue I'd say is that there isn't much variety and sometimes it was hard to know if I was actually in the ring. Great work though, and awesome art and sound!

liauj 2019-05-02 01:33

@oivin-f @joe-bustamante @jamesolivermusic I agree, the lack of content is its greatest weakness. I'm certainly happy with how it turned out, maybe with better time management my next game will have a little more variety. I did originally plan for some more upgrades and moving enemies that shoot at you, but I chose to prioritize sleep :P Thank you for giving it a shot, I really appreciate the feedback!

amerigo-gazaway 2019-05-02 05:31

Really cool space shooter! Reminds me of starfox but even smoother controls.. Would have love to heard some epic space music to set the moo... if your still int he market for some for some or ever in need of music/sfx feel to reach out! Cheers

gamepopper 2019-05-02 12:21

Really liked the background effects, a very creative way to visualize flying through a looping enviroment from a first person perspective. Mouse controls worked really well and made flying around shooting asteroids quite thrilling, although music would have improved the feeling.

fahim-faysal 2019-05-02 14:10

That psudeo 3d effect looks really cool and elevates the simple art style. The gameplay is a bit repetitive but the SFX and screenshake make it fun to play.

I did find the ring detection to be a bit wonky. Everything else is very polished.

Overall, good job!

onepolygon 2019-05-03 02:42

Nice game! Good art and the gameplay feels great. I really like all the different animated backgrounds. Very well done.

jeremy-ryan 2019-05-03 03:07

Nice Compo submission!

The game is pretty simple, but it's clean and well-executed. I particularly like the PID on the little spaceship character (the game could, of course, mechanically work the same without the ship, but it adds a lot graphically and thematically). And the fact the ship persists into the menu.

Sound effects are simple but effective. They got a bit repetitive; having music behind them might have helped, but hey, it's a game jam and you don't have time for everything.

One of your strongest points was probably the polish of the visuals and the UI. The pixel art was pretty simple, but everything flowed nicely and it felt good to play overall.

---------------------

Side note, I read [your post on Imposter Syndrome](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/44/delta-fighter/imposter-syndrome) and have to say that I sympathize heavily. Especially in an environment where everyone is constantly rating and comparing games, it can be intimidating to compare yourself to all of the best submissions on the site.

I try to focus on a couple categories every event and see how good I can get those, then change focus for next event. The Compo usually has around 1000 entries, and maybe 500 of them end up with ratings at the end. Aiming for top 250 in a category means you did than average. Aiming for top 100 means you did really well. More importantly, seeing these numbers go down over the course of several events means you're learning and improving.

Hope you had a fun Ludum Dare, and hope to see you around for future events. Cheers!

furtive-pygmy 2019-05-03 04:06

Awesome! Everything was smooth gameplay wise, very nice theme incorporation, sounds and art were very nice! Some music would have made this really shine. Keep it up, it was a fun play!

sergi-montaner 2019-05-03 13:37

Very nice little shooter. It is simple but works like a charm. Special kudos to the controls, I like how the ship moves.

I didn't feel the theme was incorporated at all until I read the game description. It could have been more evident.

bradur 2019-05-04 06:42

The shooting was a little weird. Music would have made the game much better. Cool juiciness with screen shake and sound effects and nice graphics!

shawn-moore 2019-05-06 05:44

That's some satisfying screenshake! :)

jk5000 2019-05-12 13:03

The visual is really cool, and the sounds pretty good. The gameplay idea is simple and fun, but I would have liked a bit more content. Overall a good LD game. Well done.

martynas 2019-05-14 16:44

Very cool and polished game, I like that the background changes as you progress the level.

gonutz 2019-05-14 19:45

Wow, really cool graphics. I love the retro effects that you created here. This reminds me of the good old times, so to speak. The sound effects are just the same, is this SFXR?

I downloaded the .exe like you recommend. Why is it not just an executable game, why an installer? This is actually the first game that I have played that has an installer. It means you have to uninstall the game after you are done. All this clicking... tedious ;-)

The game-play is very easy to understand, very intuitive, shoot rocks, collect (or fly through) rings, nice job getting this across with graphics and just a minimal controls screen at the start.

Overall a really nice entry, the graphics are polished and look cool. Keep up the great work!

cyrolis 2019-05-17 19:02

Not bad and pretty fun, Gg man !

nova31 2019-11-01 17:03

I discovered it late but it's a nice game!

liauj 2020-02-27 18:49

@Nova31 I found your comment a bit late, but I'm happy that the game is still finding some play! Thanks for the interest, hope you'll be around for LD46!
