LD44 — Your life is currency

Dr. Lud Umdare's Revenge by KunoNoOni 2019-04-30T04:54:47Z

Concept was good, though the walking felt a tad slow and bullet speed even slower yet. There's alot of room for improvement, but like you mentioned, you had a different idea of how it would have turned out if you didn't use most of your time debugging (which I'm glad you chose to do, rather than create more content!)

Rhythmic $hooter by dingotime 2019-04-29T10:51:01Z

It's pretty good; The first level's tempo felt low, but once it picked up after the first level it was fun! The enemy movement and shooting patterns also come out alot more clearer when the tempo is faster.

Scrapitalism by quill18 2019-04-29T01:08:12Z

This is sweet! I like the SFX haha

Life Business by jk5000 2019-05-01T04:20:45Z

16 weeks! This is a really fun game, I'm definitely gonna play again to see if I can beat my personal best.

Double Deal by PowerSpark 2019-04-30T03:03:13Z

I had lots of fun with this one! I ended up cursing everything possible, although I didn't see any end-game screen or anything. It started out a bit daunting, since there seems to be alot going on, but once you get the big picture it really becomes an interesting puzzle game.

I kept getting confused on which currency belonged to which country though, it might be a good idea to bold the text of the main currency a country uses, so you know where to trade.

All in all, really enjoyed it! Nice work!

Chains & Ore by Yvanor 2019-05-01T23:50:52Z

I liked the concept of the game, definitely should use a controller. The WASD layout was slightly difficult to handle, but nothing bad. I always tried pulling the lever using up and down rather than left and right, but maybe some players just think differently? Great game overall!

Blood Pressure by superpokeunicorn 2019-05-01T04:02:12Z

Nice polish on this! I agree with the point that being able to turn around in mid-air would have been nice. After getting used to the controls though, it wasn't so bad. That recharging animation was perfect, it felt REALLY good to use.

THE SAVER by Gao Ming 2019-04-30T05:18:55Z

That cel-shaded art is amazing! I don't think I've ever played something like this before. It's fun to be able to try and plan out the absolute best position to minimize losses, and finding out that you can deflect orbs against each other was a nice surprise!

Information Age by tater-hater 2019-04-29T14:56:09Z

Powerful message here. Kinda ironic that the message is strengthened through entering personal information onto a stranger's video game haha. I really enjoyed this, not because it was "fun" per se, but because it lets you ponder how our digital future will end up some day.

Life Stock Exchange by kefir 2019-05-02T05:10:56Z

I initially said it was slow, but then I tried a different strategy and I had something around 600k life within the first minute, woah.

Might need some number tweaks haha

A Death In The West by pete-h 2019-04-30T14:38:31Z

I got excited to have picked right (after a couple of deaths from contemplating for too long), unfortunate that you ran out of time, I'd have liked to see an ending!

All Become One by SaraJS 2019-04-29T13:48:43Z

This is awesome! Wish there were sound; would love to listen to the sound of smiting raiders with the lightning bolt!

Computers in a Nutshell by gonutz 2019-05-02T02:16:44Z

Heh... that's clever. I'm embarrassed to say what I had to do to solve the log files... Well done.

--------------------------- Error --------------------------- Failed to upload your rating.

I hope you enjoyed the game. Judging from your rating you are eager to give this game a great review with a detailed comment on its Ludum Dare site

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/44/$141527

Remember that though the game might have been rather short, much emphasis was put on compatibility, security and reliability so you got to enjoy a high quality game.

Thanks for playing!

- gonutz

P.S. did you know that you can hit Ctrl+C in a Windows message box and it will save the text to clipboard? Go ahead, try it. --------------------------- OK ---------------------------

Computers in a Nutshell by gonutz 2019-05-09T21:36:27Z

@gonutz I did look at your source code, three times in fact:

1) Before I attempted to download the project, because reading the comment section initially sketched me out :P 2) I thought I had no answer to the final section, which I was apparently doing just slightly wrong. Had I continued to try, I likely would have figured it out by sheer chance. Maybe. 3) You got me interested in Go hahahah

By the way, my embarrassing solution (SPOILER---->) for the log files involved concatenating all log files into a single text file, using a word editor to replace all common keywords and numerical digits with white space, and finally searching for the last standing string. Probably not my greatest idea but it worked lol

Currency Adventure by Genpaku 2019-04-29T18:55:43Z

Could use a lot more polish. Instantly clipped through the shopkeep, struggled and managed to clip myself out. The game looks like you're set to adventure in 3D, but the main game is a choose-your-adventure type game using a menu.

I like the over-world! I was looking forward to adventuring around like that, but then I realized it wasn't the main core of the game.

SimuCorp by Nick Rafalski 2019-05-02T04:32:08Z

This one is a real time suck! I should let my IRL boss know about the effectiveness of these arcade machines :P

This is definitely a project I'd like to see expanded on, it's already alot of fun haha!

Wizards Bane by saladon 2019-04-29T14:30:06Z

An increase in difficulty over time would be a well received addition to this great core concept. Toss in a leaderboard after that, and you'd have a real winner here.

Devil Slots by CarlosPidox 2019-05-02T00:13:49Z

With a little bit of added flare in the visuals and some tweaks to the numbers with the slot machine, this could be a real time-suck. It feels like you should be rewarded for attempting more rolls on the slot machine, but that's not the case. The way the numbers are now, it makes rolling the minimum requirement the best strategy and moving on.

Good entry regardless!

Super I-Egg by gilborn 2019-04-30T14:20:20Z

I took on your challenge thinking I could beat it.

I couldn't beat it. You're right, it IS hard!

When you're making your character double (triple, infinite) jump, you should zero out your Y-velocity so that it doesn't feel like you're fighting against gravity to jump again. Small change, very noticeable difference. Good job on the game!

Life Time by ALourenco 2019-05-01T23:59:47Z

Is the resolution of the game correct? I had a tough time reading anything in Chrome.

I would have believed that being at home would increase your happiness at least slightly, but maybe the character is just an extreme extrovert :P Interesting game, could use some more features but the idea is definitely there.

Diffraction by slimabob 2019-04-30T15:13:07Z

That villain's voice acting on spot on! It was a bit confusing at first to navigate around, but I finally understood it after a while.

The ending definitely looked like a crash, but I see now that was how it was programmed. Nice work all around!

Ludum Meta by Exevalon 2019-05-02T05:25:19Z

After a few tries, I finally made a game, but only after adjusting values so quickly and quickly depleting/replenishing each bar. The game finishes quickly that way, and I don't see any other way to win.

I'm not sure if that was the intended way to play, but it makes for a somewhat lackluster experience if so. It's an interesting concept, but I'd like to see it done a little differently!

Consume by ghost-in-the-toast 2019-04-30T05:52:07Z

What an immense amount of polish. Your scope is absolutely perfect, and the game is really fun! Also would be nice to move with WASD or arrow keys instead of clicking.

Phil, The Leprechaun Of Gold. by INCD021 2019-05-02T00:28:13Z

Those whispering children will haunt me tonight haha. It's a solid platformer, the movement could be a little bit more refined though. Nice work!

Depths by potatolain 2019-04-30T07:21:27Z

I survived the storm! You've done well; the rising rates of suicide need to be talked about more often.

It's not so easily apparent when someone is hurting so deeply. Thank you for making this!

300 Hearts for Escape by invader 2019-05-04T03:12:36Z

Good tutorial at the beginning! 48 days and 22 moves. After you understand what is generally low and high for each item, then it becomes pretty fun. Before that though, it feels like just a guessing game.

Kill'em by Aycan 2019-04-30T08:46:14Z

Seems like there's a bug that sometimes disallows you from clicking any options after receiving your hand (not sure how to reproduce it). Happened to me twice, so sadly I didn't finish the game.

Really nice concept! Would be interesting to see an entire deck with more effects.

THE GAME by Filipe da costa lopes 2019-05-01T06:31:01Z

I didn't actually catch on to the fact that you had to light yourself on fire to use the cannon, it sort of happened on accident when I was trying to "stop drop and roll" after interacting with the fire out of curiosity.

The game is pretty neat, it looks and sounds really great! Nice work on completing the project on your own despite the short amount of time!

Reaper's Keeper by chelC 2019-04-29T14:45:44Z

Employee of the month! Cute game, amazing polish everywhere! You know you goofed when your boss is looking over your shoulder for an entire level haha.

Spirits of the Unknown by TheSomeoneXD 2019-04-30T04:08:40Z

Yupp, somethings up with all of the links to itch.io.

Spirits of the Unknown by TheSomeoneXD 2019-04-30T13:48:03Z

@thesomeonexd Thanks for getting the links fixed!

I'm usually one for crisp, non-floaty platforming, but the tone and background of the game really lends itself to that movement and I enjoyed it in this game. I liked the dialog as well, though the character names don't need to scroll, just the character's speech (to give the impression that they're speaking in real time).

I appreciate moody games like this, especially after playing (and working on) so many action titles!

Time Thief by beanslasher 2019-05-01T03:48:40Z

I'll introduce the game to a few of my friends that like party games such as this! (They absolutely eat them up). Looks really good from the gameplay video!

LastSwap by EdevJogos 2019-04-30T06:34:50Z

That horde of enemies really gets out of control fast! Sweet game, really enjoyed the voice acting too!

Shark Turf by Gus the Shark 2019-04-30T03:29:57Z

After about the 10th object cleaned, I started trying to make trick shots and long bomb throws. I found the main core of the game to be a bit repetitive, but that smiling shark at the end made me feel like it was well worth it! :D

Piggy Bank ! by FlavienRombouts 2019-04-29T23:08:53Z

I had alot of fun playing this one! Every new mechanic introduced made for some really interesting puzzles. There were a few levels near the end that may have needed some more thought in their design, as I found myself just running straight for the flag without looking at the other puzzles and succeeding.

Fateful Dealings by vfqd 2019-05-03T00:31:47Z

-14, guess I'm pretty evil.

This was super interesting! The timers ticking down made me feel like I had to hurry and pick an option... then I thought how poorly that would translate to real life and figured meh, I'll take my time and read everything :P

I really like the concept, though I'd like to know how the scoring works so I could see other narratives at the end! This reminds me alot of the old man that hands you the tarot cards in Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen.

Life Death + Lemons by Random Thoughts 2019-05-04T02:41:22Z

This was lots of fun. As basic as the game play is, it does well with what it has. Great game! It somehow took me 81 turns to finish, I don't think I applied the best strategy :P

World Trader by timbs 2019-04-29T11:17:32Z

Turns out chicken wings aren't always the solution!

I enjoyed the game, it would do well with a tutorial; after a little trial and error I was able to (mostly) understand what I was doing.

My run was abruptly ended from a bug that closes the game if you scroll too far to the left (or right), so for the others playing this game, be careful!

Twitchlings by DocFallout 2019-04-29T23:51:44Z

This is awesome! Thought we were supposed to be the villagers, would have been cool seeing us walking around

Happiness Life by ManTou 2019-04-29T12:51:29Z

This game is awesome! The difficulty ramps up quickly, but it gets hectic in an amazingly fun way. The music getting faster as the work gets more hectic really adds alot! I think I would have enjoyed answering e-mails more if it required mashing your own keyboard rather than the in-game art keyboard.

One shot by Synedraacus 2019-04-29T13:33:27Z

One of the paths I took ended up taking so much text space, I couldn't scroll further to continue. I had to back-track to a different path.

I liked the concept, but it was hard to put myself in the shoes of the protagonist (antagonist?)

Purple Dimension by XCVZXC 2019-04-29T16:15:21Z

The flying enemies took this game from "just okay" to "really fun!". 100 floors is alot considering not alot changes between each floor, but I was having enough fun to see it through till the end.

BulletLife by Temsei 2019-04-30T14:03:12Z

The difficulty curve could probably increase quicker, and the character's movement could do without the extra little push you get once you release the direction keys, but the rest of the game is solid!

I've never really thought about increasing field-of-view as an upgrade for a top-down shooter, that's pretty clever.

Penny Arcane by SamStallion 2019-05-01T05:30:33Z

This was sweet, Risk of Rain vibes from the upgrade pick-ups!

I thought I wasn't able to continue on the 2nd level, but after closing the game and coming to review it, I realized you guys had that bug notice up. I'm gonna play again later and see how far I can!

Moneyons! by Maytch 2019-04-30T06:53:27Z

The art and the music are extremely good! I'm not sure if it was intentional that the signs are able to be moved rather than some of the rocks in the levels, but it was interesting!

DISREGARD LIFE, ACQUIRE CURRENCY by notb 2019-05-01T07:40:56Z

Using the stars as a map was absolutely genius. I had trouble understanding what it was that I needed to do for a while, but it clicked afterwards. Some of the text was difficult to read in the water though!

Loved the aesthetics as well, these PICO-8 games never seem to get old!

Procházka by Daniel Jenikovský 2019-04-29T19:52:05Z

Wow, that was a surreal experience! I really enjoyed it, didn't get the hat though!

By the way, the HTML version does seem to be working. I think it just isn't showing any loading bar, just need some patience.

Ziggy's Life by PurpledArtFrog 2019-04-29T15:35:16Z

As most have said, the combat could use some work. Maybe show an arm, a little feedback when reaching for a punch. Pretty funny to run around punching everyone once and getting them all riled up though haha!

Sheep It by anstabo 2019-05-01T05:48:44Z

I laughed so hard when I first saw a robot throw a sheep into the back of the truck hahaha!

Really enjoyed the automation and the overall relaxing tone of the game. It's really impressive that you guys made something of this quality in such a short time frame!

We Are Nuts! by kaeveris 2019-05-01T04:30:38Z

Looks like there's a bug with screen refresh rates - If it's too high, you move too slowly to beat even the first level (or even grab the second nut).

I lowered my refresh rate and all was good! Increasing the hitbox to pick up nuts could make it feel less like you need to really "reach" for them. Nice little platforming game!

Save your Cash! by NitroPictures 2019-04-29T16:37:29Z

Here I was going to comment that the beginning should be a bit slower, and there's two comments here that absolutely blew my score away. Maybe my reaction time is just bad.

Either way, it's a good start!

Rent is Due by JakobTheQuizGuy 2019-04-29T11:36:19Z

Beautifully simple game, I really enjoyed this one! Loved the humor too

Coin Platformer by sillyman987 2019-04-29T15:24:34Z

Good work on creating this, the first step is always the hardest. Now that you've made this, you're better prepared for other projects. Enter the jam again with your new skills!

Reach Together by Nakami 2019-04-29T13:06:54Z

I wasn't entirely sure if I was playing the game correctly, but it seemed like no matter what I could harvest for food with absolutely no consequence. It was rather easy to upgrade everything and just stock up on food for the road.

If there was some con to harvesting food (I didn't notice any passing of day), then it could make for some interesting decision-making, but since this game lacks it, it seemed quite easy to win.

Your art is absolutely amazing!

ORBid by Martynas 2019-04-29T14:00:26Z

Wow, this might be my favorite of the compo's so far, this is extremely well done! Extremely good tutorial too.

Contract Cleric by Vinay Rao 2019-04-30T03:49:49Z

Tank and DPS players these days, running in and taking aggro when they shouldn't be!

This was fun, reminds me of some old MMO's I used to play.

DEA-7H by b3agz 2019-05-01T06:41:06Z

This was so sick! I managed to win with the highest density of people, seems like hair color is a near dead-giveaway once you have a few other pieces of information. I really enjoyed the concept, slightly faster scrolling dialog would be highly appreciated!

2019 Game - Ludum Dare 44 by FatCrow 2019-04-30T08:18:55Z

Those alien noises LOL. That first rival is the master of blocking all shots, by simply standing still and looking intimidation. In all seriousness, his hitbox/size needs to be lowered. Other than him, everyone else is actually pretty fun to play against, especially the last guy. Nice game!

Life Path by kristinnes 2019-04-29T19:19:11Z

I too, was broke in death. Really interesting to see the effect of your choices throughout the game!

Tetris: Tempo by Valid 2019-05-02T01:21:09Z

Huh... it wasn't until after playing this game I realized that I rely heavily on the sound of the block hitting the bottom. That really made it hard, I don't know why.

I was just shy of the leaderboard too! I probably could have made better use of the piece purchasing, but towards the end it I had a difficult time juggling between watching the blocks and figuring out what to buy. I just suck at Tetris lol. It's a great game! Needs just a little more audio and visual feedback in my opinion.

Money is life by Nova31 2019-04-29T00:49:51Z

Nice! Gives the illusion of a big world.

The Oarsman by SefrZ 2019-05-01T05:12:36Z

I couldn't get past the 3rd level myself. Everything was extremely solid in this game, and the dashing was very satisfying. I enjoyed the controls, I thought they felt really good. The precise platforming felt like you were rewarded for being skillful, and no platforms ever felt like they were too far to see where to land.

This is a great entry, awesome work!

Delta Fighter by LiauJ 2019-04-29T10:38:02Z

Sorry about the flames behind the ship in the HTML5 version, it's not working quite like I expected. The Windows executable works the way I had intended; if it bothers you and you happen to be running Windows, please give it a try!

Thanks for the awesome feedback here. I had lots of fun for my first LD!

Delta Fighter by LiauJ 2019-04-29T18:02:50Z

@mika-la-grand Thanks for pointing out the text on itch.io, forgot I had a dark-mode extension running! And thanks for playing!

Delta Fighter by LiauJ 2019-04-30T00:15:19Z

@slimabob Thanks for playing! I have plans to go back and clean up the game a bit before shelving it for good, I'll definitely follow on your feedback! Backgrounds were created using Pixel FX Designer by CodeManu and DavitMasia.

Delta Fighter by LiauJ 2019-04-30T12:37:36Z

@arimie @XCVZXC This version doesn't end, but I think that most people wouldn't make it past 2 full cycles of the game (1 cycle = completing all levels), if they happen to play for that long.

If anyone ever gets past "Cycle 2 - Level 1" (not on Zen), you've beaten my best and I salute you.

Thanks for playing the game!

Delta Fighter by LiauJ 2019-05-02T01:33:32Z

@oivin-f @joe-bustamante @jamesolivermusic I agree, the lack of content is its greatest weakness. I'm certainly happy with how it turned out, maybe with better time management my next game will have a little more variety. I did originally plan for some more upgrades and moving enemies that shoot at you, but I chose to prioritize sleep :P Thank you for giving it a shot, I really appreciate the feedback!

Delta Fighter by LiauJ 2020-02-27T18:49:39Z

@Nova31 I found your comment a bit late, but I'm happy that the game is still finding some play! Thanks for the interest, hope you'll be around for LD46!

Psyche by aindilis 2019-04-29T20:07:30Z

Nice! I saved the Nani! Very awesome concept. Well done guys!

Mochi by kate967 2019-04-29T15:10:23Z

This is actually pretty clever. Eating your friends and immediately running for the ice cubes is extremely dissatisfying (which I'm sure was intentional), but attempting to save your friends puts you into a short but interesting puzzle solving game. That tiny platform after getting hit for the second time is difficult to stay on, though.

It's a good thing you put the instructions (as well as the hint) in the description, or I never would have finished haha.

Behind Your Light by Cem Adiloglu 2019-04-30T14:29:53Z

Very charming game, using light the way you did made for some interesting map navigation (although I often found myself bumping into the monsters anyway, whoops!)

You could try easing up on the amount of monsters and slowly introduce more as the player progresses, so they know what to expect after a few minutes in easy rooms. Nice jam entry!

Blood Farm by BootlegJoe 2019-04-29T12:34:32Z

The audio feedback was spot on! If you threw in a way to score points it could be more interesting to see how long you could last.

Angry Planet by grllle 2019-04-30T08:55:01Z

This was extremely relaxing to play, a nice change of pace from the other action games. Thank you for sharing your workflow as well!

Coins life. by Izaacs 2019-04-29T12:26:20Z

Some of the drops felt like you were just taking a leap of faith, but other than that I really enjoyed the game!

Designated Victim by toasteater 2019-04-30T08:27:28Z

Ikaruga! This was alot of fun, even though I'm absolutely terrible at bullet-hells. I liked the art style as well (which was what attracted me to play it in the first place, actually).

LifeShot by kuviman 2019-04-30T04:43:42Z

I felt like I was surviving, but I don't know if I was thriving. Shooting enemies was difficult, but I really liked being able to charge your shot into a giant ball of power! With a few tweaks, this could be really interesting as an .io game.

Fools Fortune by Gear Steak 2019-04-29T10:17:40Z

Love the artstyle, the game has something against my legs it seems. I'd really like to see this improved on!

Knight's Test by Kukareru Sekai 2019-05-03T01:29:59Z

Kudos, I really liked your method of storytelling.

Time Demand by TwobyThree 2019-04-29T19:05:41Z

Very short but sweet experience!

Vixens by GooGroker 2019-04-29T10:05:29Z

Understood immediately what to do, but only because I had played some games like it before. Might do good with a tutorial.

Life for Likes by FM Studio 2019-04-29T14:20:46Z

Although trying to take a selfie with the bugs and animals was asking to be slapped, I always went for it anyway haha. Nice game!

Sell Your Stats by n_one 2019-04-29T11:25:06Z

Once you re-spec into jump, everything makes sense! There could be some text to guide the player, or visual feedback/text in the buy/sell menu, but the game is good otherwise. Excellent work in keeping the project small and simple!

Boxes Rush by Mia Devs 2019-04-29T18:16:09Z

Like some others here, looks like I'm unable to jump high enough (or even at all) to get through the game. Also already stated, the introduction is a huge wall of text, try to trim it down a bit.

The game is good, I'm really impressed with how much you've accomplished. You've worked hard on this and it shows!

Gimme Your Heart by Misu 2019-04-29T19:33:45Z

Short, sweet, and nostalgic! I wasn't aware of GB Studio, that's pretty neat. I probably spent more time walking around looking at the game's beautiful art than trying to make it to the end!

Escape from Hell by Becher 2019-04-29T10:07:49Z

Like others mentioned, very tedious. Amazing artstyle.

Burgers To Die For by Cievers 2019-04-29T18:37:09Z

This game definitely requires alot of attention to detail, since messing up once is a whole burger down the bin. I really like the challenge, it's a well built game! Might not be bad to have a break level in-between making some burgers.

Arcade Wizard by T.A.C. Commandeur 2019-05-02T04:53:27Z

Really enjoyed the minimalist design, the game was really good! Playing for a while makes you feel a bit dizzy due to the screen shake though!

Blood Mage: Human Sacrifice by tdg_ 2019-04-29T15:57:23Z

I think the vertical text on the character vitals need to go. It would be interesting to be able to collect cards as you finish each battle to add to your deck. Of course, that's asking for alot in a 48 hour time frame, and what you've made is already quite a bit.

This is a hard kind of game to pull off in a short amount of time, you've done really well!

Victor Spumante And The Raindrops of Burgundy by gimblll 2019-04-30T07:36:24Z

Truly a piece of art, I didn't realize how much I wanted to play a game like this until now. Where do I find me some Zigamaroogadoos? And on the contrary, I think EVERYONE should touch this!

Sacrifice by lou_untitled 2019-04-30T04:29:48Z

Might be a good idea to give a bit of background on what effect each building will have outside of statistical data. Or rather, give an explaination of what each stat is doing for you if you increase it. These "horrible conditions" don't really help you in figuring out what you need to do.

It's possible I'm really bad at the game, but I never figured out how to survive longer than a few minutes. That art looks absolutely gorgeous, but that might be all the game has going for it for now.

Sacrifice by lou_untitled 2019-05-01T06:08:45Z

@lou-untitled I came back to play after the changes were made, I figured there was something small that needed to be changed, nice work on spotting the issue!

The game is really nice, just hanging back and relaxing while you watch your little island grow larger and larger is really satisfying! It's understandable that there isn't much to do once your population is stable, there just needs to be more features (and more features requires more time). If you guys continue with adding more features, I'd definitely be down to play this more. Great god-games are something of a rarity these days, I think the last semi-popular indie title went down in flames due to developer laziness.
