I thought the game was too easy until I hit day 15 without paying attention

teemu-pulkkinen 2019-04-29 18:46

A nice concept. I really like the little minions and how much depth you've managed to give them. I'd say there is definitely a learning curve but it's great fun anyway. On my 2nd attempt I encountered a bug which allowed me to recruit a person to 2nd floor even though there was no 2nd floor, so he would end up standing in there doing absolutely nothing.

owlycode 2019-04-29 18:55

Ahah I laughed so hard when I fired all competent but overpaid people to replace them by incompetent and poorly paid employees!

Nice game, it reminded me of "Corporation Inc", while the sounds being made with your voice reminding me of the ones from "One hour one life".

faiorb 2019-04-30 02:31

This one is a nice game to kind of lose track of time. I liked how this works out

toasteater 2019-04-30 06:16

A pretty nice and funny game! I would like it to keep running when it loses focus. For me it pauses itself when I move my mouse out of the window.

icylava 2019-04-30 09:58

Had a bit of trouble in my first 2 attempts... then I started utilizing the fire button :)

I wish I could remove the stuff that I don't need anymore.

tater-hater 2019-05-01 04:00

I love games like this so much and for 48 hours, this really was able to scratch that itch. loved the randomized hiring list, the sound effects, and the overall effort in the small details, ei recording more than one 'hire' soundbyte for the game. overall super fun and well designed.

johanhelsing 2019-05-01 08:53

Really cool game, and pretty well polished. It's got a good office sound to it as well, which increases as the office grows, really cool :)

I managed to spend too much investing the first time and had to close on the first payroll, the next time I found the game to be way too easy. I invested in meeting areas and arcades exclusively, and I wish there was a way to speed up (I now have lots of cash and nothing to spend it on). But really impressive how much you managed to create for a compo!

nick-rafalski 2019-05-01 13:26

@maniae @owlycode @faiorb Thank you all for playing and for the feedback. It is so helpful and appreciated

@teemu-pulkkinen I haven't actually seen that bug myself, but I have no problem believing it exists. The whole multi-story feature was added in the last hour of the compo. Thanks for playing!

@toasteater Thanks for the compliments! After playing the game myself more after the compo, I totally agree with you regarding running in the background. I actually intentionally disabled it in the Unity player settings, but I don't really know why.

@icylava Thanks for playing! I wanted to add the ability to remove stuff, but time got away from me.

@tater-hater Thanks so much for the compliments! This was definitely my most ambitious LD game so far, and I definitely put more effort into the small details as you say, rather than actually making it 'fun', so I'm glad you appreciate it :)

@johanhelsing You definitely found the 'optimal' strategy with all meeting areas and arcades. I wish the balance of the whole game was better, and that there was an actual end, but those things all slipped away as I spent too much time on other features. Thanks for the kind words and for playing!

tamail 2019-05-01 17:24

I could spend hours, I think, playing this game! I think that if the game was on Kongregate, it would have many players! I stopped playing just because I forgot to plug in my notebook and it died. :D It died in a moment when I had tons of money and nothing to do. So maybe add an option to upgrade tables and stuff? (I hope I haven't missed the option in the game, if so, sorry!) It seemed to be a bit easy but it could have take a bad turn, I don't know. Anyway, I loved the graphics, I loved the sounds, I loved playing the game!

phillserrazina 2019-05-01 18:18

Oof, I got caught up playing this game and ended up playing for an hour... at work... I'm lucky I didn't get caught  It's a very fun game! Super simple yet addicting, shame you can't sell stuff that you already put down! My employees lost way too much time at those water coolers!! Good job :)

nick-rafalski 2019-05-01 18:55

@tamail Thanks so much for all the praise! It's so motivating to hear people like your game. You did *not* miss the feature to sell things; I wish I had time to implement that. And you are right that the game is pretty easy, especially if you randomly get high-quality/lower-salary employees at the start. The difficulty is definitely too dependent on the random number generation, but it was the best I could manage in 48hours. Glad you enjoyed it so much still :)

@phillserrazina Thanks so much for the kind words! You're right about not being able to sell stuff; I wanted to add that feature, but never got around to it. Thanks for playing :)

jiri-hysek 2019-05-01 22:45

Awesome game especially for the compo! It's fun to play, graphics is cute and I love the sound effects :D Great job man!

ant3331000 2019-05-02 02:59

Its simplcity makes it fun and i really enjoyed the water drinking sound lol! Good Job!

baby-dino-herd 2019-05-02 03:20

I really enjoy this take on the theme! The graphics are cute and effective, but most importantly, all of the UI is nicely laid out and easy to understand -- quite an impressive feat for 48 hours!

I think I somehow clicked through the final page of explanation without realizing it, so I didn't expect the payroll the first time it came up! But it immediately made sense -- you did a good job mirroring the real world with your mechanics.

cheesepencil 2019-05-02 04:12

haha reminds me of Sim Tower from 100 years ago

liauj 2019-05-02 04:32

This one is a real time suck! I should let my IRL boss know about the effectiveness of these arcade machines :P

This is definitely a project I'd like to see expanded on, it's already alot of fun haha!

nick-rafalski 2019-05-02 12:59

@jiri-hysek @ant3331000 @cheesepencil Thanks a lot for the feedback and compliments :) They are very motivating.

@baby-dino-herd Thanks for the positive feedback on the UI. It was really an area of focus because I know nobody has time to figure out an unintuitive UI when rating game jam games. Thanks for the kind words

@liauj haha I would love some arcade machines at work IRL too! Thanks for playing :)

oivin-f 2019-05-02 17:52

Interesting take on the theme

vinay-rao 2019-05-03 06:40

It's killing me that I don't remember the name of the game, but this game reminds me of another game where you manage a company building and employees. I haven't seen the game mentioned in the comments yet. That's going to bother me for a while.

In any event, this is a pretty fun game. Looks good, sounds good, and plays well.

I found there were a few times where I had nothing to manage. Typically after all my floor slots were filled, I didn't have anything to do but collect money and wait for new hires, unless the floor was already being worked to near capacity. The game I mentioned earlier solved this issue by causing stations to breakdown over time, requiring attention from an IT department that could be micromanaged.

Still though, in 48 hours this game managed to recover a memory of a game I loved.

I may not be able to remember what that game was called, but this game scratched that itch of mine.

Good job! Pretty awesome to see an office/company management simulator game after such a long time.

nick-rafalski 2019-05-03 17:22

@oivin-f Thanks for playing and the feedback :)

@vinay-rao Thanks so much for the compliments! I love your idea about adding some more micro-managing tasks to the game; I agree it can be slow at some times. And I'm ecstatic to have evoked a pleasant memory for you. That is what game making is all about :)

datagreed 2019-05-05 15:20

Very cool for 48 hours. I like that you can build everything during the pause. Reminded me of a game from one of the past jams about drug dealing :)

What does the "spots" mean? I thought that it's a number of spots taken on the floor, but everything takes one spot anyway.

datagreed 2019-05-05 15:21

I wish you could read item description before actually placing it.

datagreed 2019-05-05 15:25

Lol, I managed to hire a person on a non-existing floor

Скриншот 2019-05-05 16.25.15.png

nick-rafalski 2019-05-06 02:56

@datagreed Thanks for all the feedback! "Spots" is how many employees can be using an item at the same time. This is mentioned on the LD page, but nowhere in game unfortunately. You should be able to read the item descriptions by clicking their icon, then hitting the "Cancel" button that appears if you don't want to place it (it won't cost you $). I can definitely see how that's un-intuitive and clunky though. Finally, you are the second or third person to mention being able to hire somebody to a non-existent floor. I haven't been able to reproduce it myself, but it's pretty funny to see a screen shot! Hopefully you could still fire him and the you were no worse for ware? Again, thanks for playing and all the feedback :)

datagreed 2019-05-06 09:03

@nick-rafalski man, that's a very addicting game, thank you for it :) I hope you'll continue working on it after the LD

joror 2019-05-16 16:59

Nice game! Love the soundeffects :D At times I really wanted a 'fast forward' button too, since the next choice would be in the next hiring, which would take a long time. Nicely done!

zyrconium 2019-05-18 17:11

Yeah, these sound effects are very charming.

rplnt 2019-05-19 11:42

Love these kinds of games. With some additions of lists and tables (how much money floor makes, employees profit, etc...), ability to remove "furniture", move people around floors, buying floors (and buildings) at my own pace, it could be fun for some time (for people like me at least).

Very solid entry, besides the genre I especially like the graphics of the workers, as well as their sounds.

imphenzia 2019-05-19 22:59

I really like this game for many reasons! I like the idea of being the office manager having to keep track of incoming and outgoing cash flow. I like the simple pixel art graphics and like the audio it was quite comical =) I thought it was funny to see the profiles as you were about to hire people and in my case now it's easy to turn down hiring "Karl Yorktown" who has no quality of work and hardly any work ethic but he want's to get paid a lot and he's very motivated (to get paid I'm sure =). If I was to try to add any constructive feedback it would be that it's somewhat difficult to gather an understanding on who in the workforce isn't performing so good and who to fire as it's quite fast paced and the guys overlap at times. But that's a minor thing. I'm scoring this game high in overall, mood, and humor categories especially. Congrats, a really great job on this one!

I had plenty of money but I missclicked :(
