LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Klein Bottle Asteroids by bucketh3ad 2014-04-29T14:13:00

Was hard at first but I got used to it pretty quickly. It seemed kind of discouraging to warp around the edges because of the inverted rotation, so I just sticked to the middle meaning there really was nothing new in each stage. It's an interesting idea though. Got to chaospehere.

Reggid by bombjack 2014-04-28T17:31:00

Pretty fun, but I think the death detection is a bit glitchy. Also when you go right by using the D key you just die for no reason (and the death sound scared the heck out of me), but if you use the arrow keys it's fine. And why are diamonds only 10$? :P

Lair Raid 2: Battle in the Deep Dark by Parappa 2014-04-28T18:38:00

It's pretty fun. The controls were easy to figure out, and yes this was a bit easy, I didn't lose any dwarfs (if you're allowed to lose some) and I haven't even played any games of that sort. Nice choice of music, seems to fit in. Good job :)

UnderTheLibrary by Delca 2014-05-01T10:03:00

For some reason it seemed that the collision worked better on the original, maybe it was just a coincidence. Interesting little game, didn't get any books though.

Water Temple by pLaw 2014-04-28T16:44:00

Interesting game. I got 107, did some silly mistakes :P
I like the visual style as well. Good work :)

Engineer by Jeasonfire 2014-04-28T15:28:00

Pretty cool game. I don't think I got too far though. Haven't really tried the level editor but you get an exception if you try to cancel anything.

Surface Dungeon by ForeseenParadox 2014-04-28T16:20:00

Couldn't get very far, a restart button would have helped :P
Well since you've made it in 5 hours you've done pretty well.

A Lava Quest by vogon101 2014-04-28T17:04:00

The coin sound was a bit too loud, it seems like when you hit a coin block multiple coins pop out, so I guess that's why. Also the jumping and graphics are a bit derpy, but other than that you did pretty good.

Mine The Planet by alhvi 2014-04-28T19:00:00

Fun little game, failed the first time :P

Surface Invaders by Wave Propagation 2014-04-29T13:21:00

I couldn't play it very well because it was lagging and the audio was choppy (but that's not your fault, this computer is like 10 years old). Anyway, it's pretty interesting, nice job :)

Under Soul by CastEclipse 2014-04-28T14:27:00

Nice idea, were you hoping for the "control more than one" theme? Music is good, helps carry out the mood. Didn't finish it, stopped at the one where you have to hold a block on your head, or something like that :P

Beneath The Surface by adamwoolridge 2014-04-28T15:52:00

Nice concept, simple, challenging, last level took like 4 tries. Great job!

Core Fighter by IcyLava 2014-04-28T13:14:00

Thanks for the feedback! @uprightpath, @atombrot, yeah the the enemies are a bit stupid, should have implemented a better AI so they would actually move around and surround the player (and I still had time for that), I was just being lazy :P
@Flam, seems like the problem is with paulscode sound system, it wants to load natives from the mac folder which doesn't exist (mac natives are in the macosx folder)... it should be an easy fix.

Core Fighter by IcyLava 2014-04-28T13:36:00

Updated, just renamed the "macosx" folder to "mac". If you still have it downloaded you can do the same.

Core Fighter by IcyLava 2014-04-29T13:40:00

Thanks :)

Core Fighter by IcyLava 2014-05-02T11:32:00

Thank you everyone :)

Core Fighter by IcyLava 2014-05-02T15:11:00

I've updated the game's particle system. It used to generate lots of VBO buffers which slowed it down and it also was just unoptimized. Now it's quite a bit faster, although I can't imagine anyone had problems with that, because even my old computer handled the old version well enough.

Core Fighter by IcyLava 2014-05-13T16:49:00

Thanks :)

Super Surface Shape Shifter by sP0CkEr2 2014-05-13T17:09:00

Really unique, I like it and it's pretty fun. The music and sounds were good and I liked the simplistic graphics. Good work :)

LD30 — Connected Worlds

Worlds Collide: a tale of many by uprightpath 2014-08-25T13:58:00

Yeah, I think it's too fast. It took me a while to get to the first door ;_; . Good work though!

The Unfortunate Potato by Longarmx 2014-08-25T13:16:00

Haha, nice story. I liked the game too :)

Through the Trans-Dimensional Window by Charlie 2014-08-25T18:32:00

Cool! Managed to get to the end. I really like those mechanics. Good job :)

Interplanetary Messengers by DragonMaster21 2014-08-25T13:39:00

Why must it take so long to get to another planet? I guess it's kind of realistic, but not so fun... after I got to a different planet I quit, but now i see there are upgrades... well I'm not doing that again :P

Darkness by kevinAlbs 2014-08-25T18:07:00

It's challenging, I like it! Took some tries but got to the boss. Had an interesting ending. Good work!

Galaxies by Jeasonfire 2014-08-26T18:51:00

Nice game! For some reason I can't upgrade the fuel a second time, said I didn't have enough money, even though I did.

Shared Mass by mephisto 2014-08-26T14:01:00

Finished the game, though I think I kind of cheated... when the sum of both planets is an odd number, you can decide which one gets the one point by changing which one you select first and which one second. Anyway, fun game, good job!

Expedition by holgk 2014-08-25T12:59:00

That's a really nice game! A way to speed it up would've been nice though.

CAVVE by Zupoman 2014-08-26T12:23:00

"You are some strange creature", hmm... I skimmed through that part and my guess was that you are a rock :D. Didn't get past all the levels, but it was pretty fun anyway. Good work!

Planet fighter by IcyLava 2014-08-25T09:54:00

Heh, thanks, I'm glad i added that :P

Planet fighter by IcyLava 2014-08-25T14:19:00

hmm...well my best guess is the single '\' that's there... I'll try changing that in just a sec.

Planet fighter by IcyLava 2014-08-25T14:23:00

Changed, if it still doesn't work then I have no idea what to do.

Planet fighter by IcyLava 2014-08-26T17:36:00

@uprightpath Yeah I added the death sounds for the player and enemy, but didn't need a hit sound for the player and so I forgot to add it for the enemy.
@Charlie Thanks! Glad you liked it, and good to know it works now.

Planet fighter by IcyLava 2014-08-27T17:15:00

Thanks! :)

Planet fighter by IcyLava 2014-08-28T16:39:00

Well, I didn't want to make it too easy, so the more waves you beat, the more health the enemies have. And I think the 360-spread planet would have been overpowered if it would've done more damage. Though it can get pretty fast with the fire rate power-ups. Thanks for playing!

Planet fighter by IcyLava 2014-08-29T09:14:00

@kyru, @EndingChaos Thanks! I was afraid my game didn't quite fit the theme.

Oathkeeper by MrCakehat 2014-08-25T12:28:00

Nice game :D . Maybe should have added more skills like, for example, some sort of super jump so you could avoid the boss easier. Good job!

The Signal by tillrobby 2014-08-25T17:39:00

It probably would have been a bit more challenging if the third world's rotation wouldn't reset after switching. Nice work :)

First of the Final by bakwards 2014-08-25T10:41:00

Simple but fun. I liked the win text :D

Death Facility by Yanthir 2014-08-25T17:12:00

Interesting idea, a bit hard for me too though.

Spacesuit Of Glue by hazzahazzam 2014-08-25T10:15:00

Fun little game, didn't finish it though.

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Batz by recursor 2014-12-19T18:48:00

It can be quite frustrating at times :/

Winter Madness by Herku 2014-12-19T13:55:00

It's not too bad, but like others have said, it's too easy. You need a game over after your multiplier goes down to 0 and you should make it more difficult. I like that you added variations to the snowflakes, though you could have also added some sort of background and floor graphics. Good work :D

MousyDare by Sri Harsha Chilakapati 2014-12-08T17:41:00

Fun little game, I guess my best advice would be to work on the graphics a bit more. Good work :)

Bomber by xaedes 2014-12-19T14:12:00

Once I realized that you can just hold the mouse button to place the bombs it got really easy... also, it seems the bombs don't blow up each other, maybe if they would it would be harder to just make a trail of bombs. As for the sounds, it's really not that hard to generate some with bfxr, you can usually make a passable one just by clicking on one of the effect names. But good work, I really liked it :)

Winter storm by IcyLava 2014-12-10T13:48:00

@atombrot, hah, forgot to do that :P usually I just allow rebindable keys, but this time I reworked my UI system and didn't have time to reimplement it. Thanks for playing :)

Winter storm by IcyLava 2014-12-12T19:12:00

@Mokosha, you probably need to update your jre.

Winter storm by IcyLava 2014-12-19T13:42:00

@calavera, well I guess this is the game I would've made if the theme would have been snowman, but I didn't start until the theme was announced, just so you know :)

Winter storm by IcyLava 2014-12-19T17:57:00

@Grindstorm, thanks! I was actually planning on adding upgrades and different enemies, but I was on the computer for about 30 total hours, so by the end I wasn't feeling too well and decided to stop :P

Cobot by GameQuester 2014-12-08T17:58:00

The teleporters were a cool idea, like has been said, but I would've liked some checkpoints. People won't spend a lot of time on a game, because they have a lot more games to rate. But it's a really nice game, especially for a first one. Good job ^_^

Pixel Run by atombrot 2014-12-10T14:21:00

I couldn't get past the key level either, the goal doesn't seem to have an icon on it at that level. But the desktop version works. It's quite challenging, well done :)

LD35 — Shapeshift

Scrapshaper by the31 2016-04-19T11:21:00

Cool! I like how you can bounce your bullets off of walls, you can do some cool trick shots :D
I would've liked some more upgrades, some possible ones: fire rate, shoot more bullets at once, more bounces off walls, more speed, maybe even seeking bullets. The boss could've been a bit harder. Anyway, I liked it, good job :D

Polyshift by keyboardmonkey 2016-04-18T14:30:00

I got 72%, not sure how good that is. It's simple but fun. It seems the shape detection is a bit more forgiving in the later levels, which is nice. Pretty cool game, good job :D

NOUKE by sirtetris 2016-04-19T08:25:00

Hmm, that's some interesting gameplay. I couldn't hear any sound using firefox or chrome, not sure if there was supposed to be some...

Anyway, thanks for playing my game! I hope you don't mind if I put a link to your video of my game in my game's description :)

Grim crash by umb16 2016-04-23T09:38:00

This is the best :D

Rectangle run by IcyLava 2016-04-19T05:14:00

Thanks everyone for the feedback! Also, @sirtetris, that's awesome :D

Mech-a-Plane by Squarlboy 2016-04-19T12:10:00

I like how you can survive for a long time just by mashing Q :D

Water&Fire by chrras 2016-04-19T09:59:00

Interesting concept. Sometimes jumping doesn't work, which is a bit frustrating when trying to jump over enemies. It would have been nice to have some checkpoints. I didn't get too far, it's kinda hard, but I liked it. Good job on your first game :D

Escend by SirSoltex 2016-04-18T15:25:00

I agree with Hyden, it's hard to see when you're carrying something, maybe you could make it so you can change the distance of the object you're holding with the mouse wheel or something. Also, sometimes it's a bit hard to tell apart blocks from other blocks and walls, you could have added some sort of texture to the blocks. Anyway, it's pretty interesting to mess around with physics. I liked the final room :D

Escend by SirSoltex 2016-04-19T08:43:00

I just found a cool bug: when you're holding something, press and release right click and the block will float in place :D
https://www.dropbox.com/s/fw9s0xbvx0et5cp/escend_screen.png?dl=0

Corner Quest by QuintoM 2016-04-24T17:27:00

It's a bit hard to control, but cool idea :D

Nano Wars by Rey 2016-04-19T10:13:00

It seems like the robots die only if they are right in front of you when your shooting animation finishes, you really need to fix that. But it sure looks nice!

LD37 — One room

HourGlass Collector by skorpyo 2016-12-17T14:11:00

Reminds me of a flash game called "This is the only level", I love it!

Survive by adean 2016-12-14T15:16:00

Were you using an older version of love2d? I can't seem to get past the menu with 0.10.1, gives an error :/

Survive by adean 2016-12-14T19:20:00

Ok, I just downloaded 0.9.2 and played it.

I know that you didn't have much time, but here's some feedback anyway:

Since there's no sound it's a bit hard to tell when you're reloading. You probably won't be looking at the top left corner of the screen all that often, so you won't see the "reloading" label. It's better to place that label near the cursor, where you'll be looking most of the time (you can also put the ammo count near the cursor too). Also, some sort of progress bar instead of just a label would be better, so you could tell how much longer it will take.

Sometimes some zombies spawn right next to you and damage you instantly. What I would do is this - after spawning each zombie, check it's distance from the player, if it's less than *some value* units of distance, get the direction vector from the player to that zombie and multiply it by *some value*, and add the player's position vector to this new vector. This new vector is the zombie's position *some value* units away from the player. Although the zombie could potentially get spawned in a block, but I think it's better than damaging the player.

You could also have more choices for weapons. You do have a lot, but they seem to do more or less the same thing. Maybe you could have a shotgun that's good at taking out multiple zombies at the same time, but endangers you because you need to move up closer to the zombies to do significant damage. You could also have a sniper rifle that would be pretty much the opposite of a shotgun - you can take out zombies from a safe distance, but only one at a time (with relatively slow reloading), making it bad for hordes that are closing in on you.

Anyways, don't worry so much about it, I've made worse games than this with probably more time ;D

The Cold Cabin by Evgiz 2016-12-14T13:59:00

Hmm, for some reason the music doesn't play in the web version for me, I assume it's the music in the timelapse. Anyway, the graphics are neat, great job :D

The Cold Cabin by Evgiz 2016-12-14T20:45:00

@Evgiz I tried to run the desktop version, but I'm on a 32 bit system, unfortunately.
Maybe it has something to do with streamed vs. static sounds, because the sound effects played just fine. Oh and this was with Firefox, I just tried it with Chrome and the music plays just fine there.

Dark Chamber by elucent 2016-12-14T16:04:00

Hi! Is there supposed to be sound in this game? I don't seem to hear any. One quirk I noticed is that when you get hit, the knockback causes you to turn around, which is not great because you want to attack whatever knocked you back, since now they are really close. Also, nothing seems to happen after you defeat the final boss, which is a bit disappointing and makes it seem a bit unfinished. But regardless, the graphics were quite nice and I enjoyed it, great work :D

Treasure temple trouble by IcyLava 2016-12-14T21:06:00

Thank you for the feedback everyone! I did realize after making it that dashing is really finicky and should just be bound to a button, good to know that people think so too. And yes, @ISG, after you reach the treasure you can't go anywhere else, it's just too shiny and attractive :)

Pocalypse by Tjakka5 2016-12-14T15:04:00

Ooh, looks neat. It would be nice to have some way to track your progress, maybe a "zombies killed:" and/or "time survived:". Also it's a bit annoying how the game just exits when you die, you should allow to restart or at least keep the window open. Anyway, you did a great job :D

LD39 — Running out of Power

Plutonium by Nnnnneeeedddd 2017-08-15T16:12:03Z

@nnnnneeeedddd You say that you've set the gravity to be much lower than in the real world, but it's clearly very intense, so I looked at your code and... ``` void Player::update() { ...

acceleration += glm::vec2(0.f, -0.025f);//gravity velocity += glm::vec3(acceleration, 0.); } ``` Are you... accelerating acceleration??

Gravity doesn't increase acceleration, it IS acceleration, so it should be ``` // = not += acceleration = glm::vec2(0.f, -9.8f / 60.0f); // 9.8 might not be the right value for your game, though. In my game, I used 9.8 * 4. // You might need to decrease the jumping force too.

// Also, since it's constant, you don't need to set it every frame.

// You can actually just do this instead: velocity += glm::vec3(0.0, -9.8f / 60.0f, 0.0); // gravity ``` With the code you have now, gravity accelerates up to 45 m/s^2 in just 0.5 seconds! So at that point, it's almost 5 times stronger than normal gravity. That's why it feels like the gravity is strong, it's because it mostly is :P . How tall your player is also affects how intense the gravity feels, if it's human-like it should be about 1.8 meters.

You might want to watch this when you have some time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hG9SzQxaCm8

Also, you're doing this in `void Player::doMovement(GLFWwindow* window)` too, although in this case maybe it's not that bad.

So, yeah... anyway, mainly I had the same issues with the game as other people (the jump, camera etc.)

But great job on making this with no engine!

Console Commander by kryptarchy 2017-08-19T19:16:05Z

Figured out a neat trick - just do "burn 1000" and you can use "toggle thr" to toggle the thrusters on/off :D

Anyway, cool idea. I think you could expand upon this. For instance, you could add a delay command that would allow you to program more complex maneuvers, firing in patterns etc.

Surge - LD39 by IcyLava 2017-08-01T18:53:29Z

@mik3 thank you for playing and for the feedback :)

@adrien-dittrick well, that room was supposed to teach you something - you can hit the homing rockets and they will start seeking skulls! I was hoping eventually people would try it, but I guess it's not obvious that it would work. Anyway, thanks for playing!

Surge - LD39 by IcyLava 2017-08-20T19:53:09Z

@gagapete That's odd, the physics shouldn't be OS dependent... welp, I have no clue how to fix that, if anyone else has this issue, tell me.

@lythom Thank you for playing and for the detailed feedback, I really appreciate it :)

And thank you to everyone else as well ;D

Ministry of Synthesis by impbox 2017-08-13T13:39:24Z

I loved this game! On my first run I ran out of time, but it was so fun for me that I decided to try again. I managed to beat it, although the last level took a while.

The filters are a bit inconsistent, I had a cable going from one filter to another and the door didn't open, then I swapped the order of the filters and it worked (it was highpass to lowpass, or maybe vice-versa, can't remember). Also on one level, a door was spazzing out, even though I had the right solution (I think), I just had to wait until it opened properly so I could pass (this was also because of filters probably).

Anyway, this was probably my favorite entry out of all the LDs I've participated in, I can't even believe this is a compo entry. Really well made, great work!

Powershuttle by GameWolves 2017-08-03T10:23:54Z

Pretty fun game. At first the controls seemed a bit weird but I quickly got used to it.

Still, here's how I would do the controls: * You always face the mouse cursor, LMB to move forward, space or RMB to shoot, OR * LMB to face the cursor, RMB to move forward, space to shoot

The graphics are a bit inconsistent, the pixel sizes on each sprite seem to be different. What I mean is, for example, the title text 'POWERSHUTTLE' seems not pixelated at all, has a smooth gradient, meanwhile, all the other text is very blocky and pixelated. The background is very high-definition, but the powerup sprites are pixelated, etc.

But anyway, congrats on making a fun game :D

RulesQuest by Adrien Dittrick 2017-08-03T11:19:59Z

I think I'm addicted...

Though, you can easily become overpowered and quickly kill the other kings, still really fun to rack up the numbers though.

Really great for a compo game, well done :D

Winter has come by GistNoesis 2017-08-08T15:45:04Z

Took me a few tries but I finally beat it. 6 farmers and 3 researchers in the beginning seemed to be the way to go.

There's really no reason not to burn your wood and oil right away, since there's no cap on the power you can hold. And so that means having wood and oil be separate has no advantage. Maybe you could make it that if your power goes above a certain threshold, the power you generate becomes less due to inefficiency. That way, you would actually have to make sure you don't burn anything when your power is too high or you burn only the wood when you are close to that threshold, so that you don't waste your resources.

Anyway, fun game, thanks for making it ;D

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Crystal Curse by IcyLava 2017-12-06T21:27:21Z

@blubberquark, thanks for playing! > I don't see the theme

Well, the idea is that the more crystals you collect, the tougher the enemies get. But now that I think about it... that's kind of how every level based game is... *damn it*... I mean, I did come up with the idea maybe 10 minutes after seeing the theme, heh :D

> The only thing that annoyed me was that you slide on the ground so much

What do you mean by that? You accelerate and decelerate pretty fast, is that the problem? Does the movement look like the gif I just uploaded? If not, maybe there's a bug...

Anyway, thanks :D

Crystal Curse by IcyLava 2017-12-06T21:38:24Z

@josefnpat, thank you for the nice words! Waaait a second...

> the **first few levels** are very fun

I see what you did there... just joking, of course :D

But to be fair, I really should have spent more time polishing the levels. Thanks again!

> I also really dug the low-pass that comes up under the text cards – did you do that through programming or manually?

Manually, I have 2 versions of the track - one normal, one lowpassed. Love2D can't do that, but it will be able to do that and other effects (and custom processing iirc) in the next major version (0.11.0), so keep an eye out for that.

And thanks!

Crystal Curse by IcyLava 2017-12-11T17:39:15Z

@wetdesertrock, wow, suddenly a wall of feedback, haha :D

> I think your usage of the theme felt like it was really just an excuse for your game to have a difficulty progression, which it should’ve had anyways. The text in between levels was good, but when you don’t give the player any choice besides to collect the crystals it really just amounts to a difficulty progression.

I just didn't want for the theme to interfere with the fun of the game. This specific theme makes that kinda hard to do. I saw some other entries limit you the more you have of something and that just doesn't seem like fun to me. But yeah, you're right, it sounded better in my head during the jam than it does now.

I guess the idea is that these are the same type of enemies, just stronger, whereas in some other games you would see stronger _versions_ of those enemies that are distinct (and sometimes you see stronger and weaker versions on the same level). Eh, I give up :P

> The other complaint I have is with the player movement. Overall it was really good, but I had one complaint. Maybe it is just me being bad at platformers (I am), but I felt like the jump should’ve been made more powerful or you should’ve allowed the player to let go of the jump key after awhile. it felt like I had to hold it down forever to get maximum jump velocity and made me miss my jumps pretty often.

Yeah, I always seem to have trouble with implementing variable jump height. You have to hold down the jump key until the peak of your jump to reach max height.

> Did you speed up the music at all as the game progresses? If so great touch, if not, do it next time!

No, I didn't. Maybe not a bad idea, but the framework I'm using would only allow to change the speed with the pitch, and the quality would probably suffer. I could maybe do different versions of the track... but I already have 2 versions that make up most of the game's size, and I would need 2 versions of each speed version and...

Yeah, I'm not sure about that... but I'm actually slowly working on a post compo version, I don't know if I'll have the motivation to finish it at any reasonable time (or ever), but if I do, I'll see if I can do something like that.

Thank you so much for this feedback, I really appreciate it!

Legend of Crystalia by Hackingroelz 2017-12-11T19:00:54Z

Why do I feel like the first level was the hardest...

It was frustrating at first, but eventually I got the hang of it. Though I feel like me dodging the attacks was more luck than skill.

I quite like the look of the game, but yeah, kinda frustrating, kinda short too. But good job!

Crystal Dude by Raogs 2017-12-12T20:01:50Z

It's not particularly challenging, you just sort of strafe around them until the enemies are in one big bunch and then you move towards them, shoot, move back, reload, move towards them, shoot... and on and on. Maybe some types of enemies that move differently would have helped with that.

Mr. Capital! by fluidvolt 2017-12-08T17:25:24Z

The window didn't fit on my screen, it had too large of a height :P

The controls were kind of unresponsive and weird (I guess is how I would describe them), which made platforming difficult.

Anyways, I really liked the SFX and music. And neat concept too! Good work!

The Adequate Shepherd by blubberquark 2017-12-08T16:52:35Z

It's a bit cumbersome. The dogs kind of blend in with the background, I thought I had 2 dogs until I moved close to the third one and it moved. Also, there only seem to be 24 sheep, not 36 :P

Shooter Guy by sirikan 2017-12-12T20:29:19Z

You didn't mention you can run with shift. Fortunately I found that out pretty quick. Like others have mentioned, the AI isn't great, I just started meleeing everyone after not too long. I did really like this though!

The explorer by Stepan Shabalin 2017-12-09T10:16:08Z

~~I couldn't seem to hear any music or sounds on Windows.~~ Never mind, I forgot that I need to plug in my headphones into my computer for them to actually work...

One improvement you could make - the further the mouse is from the player when you click, the more powerful the jump (and vice versa). That's something that most of these sort of games do.

I had my mom play it, she didn't do very well, the first enemy is too quick for her :P

Dream Roamers by Jegus9 2017-12-09T10:54:54Z

Wow, the music is really nice!

It's maybe a bit easy. I just always collected all the ammo and tried to not get hit (I guess I did die a few times before winning though). It's a bit hard to tell health and ammo apart.

Overall, I really liked the game and it's aesthetic. One of the best LD40 entries I've tried so far (then again, I haven't tried that many yet :P). Great job!

Npigs by 6smith 2017-12-13T17:02:08Z

I played this for way too long, finally gave up at 3406 :P

Maybe some sort of minimap at the side of the screen would have been nice, so I could better know which pig is selected and where he is (or maybe how high he is) relative to others.

The art style is nice and it has simple but addictive gameplay. Nicely done :D

OVERWHELM by randomnine 2017-12-11T18:33:28Z

God damn it, I need to rate 4 games today and this just had to be the first one I try...

Really well polished for a compo. Felt really harsh when I first died and realized that it doesn't save progress, but I got further with each try.

The controls felt a bit clumsy (though I just now realized flash version has right click for melee).

Gonna have to play this one later some more. Just overall amazing.

Shop till you drop DEAD by IcyLava 2019-04-29T19:37:39Z

@nick-rafalski I did realize that it was hard to line up shots towards the end of the compo, probably has to do with the hitboxes. I couldn't easily modify the hitboxes though because of how I hacked everything together lol. And thanks, this might be the first time someone said that my game fits the theme well :D

SPACE SPACE by MossGames 2019-04-29T17:29:31Z

Actually played a round for 15 minutes before being eaten. The rate of fire doesn't seem to be consistent, sometimes you shoot faster or slower, not sure why. Also there seems to be no punishment for keeping resources at 0 until you have enough stuff to get them to 100%. The movement is a bit finicky, maybe you could've used the keyboard for that. But anyways, it's enjoyable :)

SimuCorp by Nick Rafalski 2019-04-30T09:58:34Z

Had a bit of trouble in my first 2 attempts... then I started utilizing the fire button :)

I wish I could remove the stuff that I don't need anymore.

Space Hunt by Rewzu 2019-04-30T11:19:15Z

The bullets are tiny and very hard to see and on top of that it's hard to tell when you're getting hit in general.

Not sure why you assigned separate buttons for buying rockets and EMP. I mean you don't have to buy laser shots, but those cost energy too. I would just have the 3 and 4 keys shoot and use up the energy automatically like the laser.

I liked the graphics, actually the screenshot is why I picked this game to play :D

Space Hunt by Rewzu 2019-04-30T11:34:35Z

@rewzu Oh, I see. It's just a bit hard to manage all the buttons, which is why I said that :)

Cucumber by Uriel Bromberg 2019-04-30T10:51:59Z

Nekro Tower by octoprogames 2019-04-30T10:16:30Z

Yeah the screaming sound is clipping badly. The parts are really hard to hover over, especially when you're moving. Neat atmosphere.

Also, works on Linux (Ubuntu 19.04), just had to check "Allow executing file as program".

Anti-Bomb by IcyLava 2021-10-04T12:08:33Z

@remco thanks for playing and for the feedback!

There's a lot I wanted to do and so I didn't spend too much time working on the explosion mechanic.

I did notice it was very hard to predict where the bomb is going which is why I implemented the feature where you see the bomb path, but even then it's hard to time your jumps with the explosion (and you **must** jump in time with the explosion in most cases).

I've spent the last hour or so of my time on music and title screen art, because I placed more importance on those than tinkering some more with the game physics.

At this point I feel like my ship is basically indestructible and I have a ton of credits. When the big ships with the insta-kill lasers come, I just freeze the ship so it doesn't get unbalanced and replace the broken parts.

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

server.vasm by IcyLava 2022-10-04T13:46:45Z

@adam-gould Thanks! The idea is that you have to fulfill requests to your server every 10 seconds (see the timer on the bottom right). It's maybe not so clear, since the "wait for next request" instruction skips the remaining time.

server.vasm by IcyLava 2022-10-04T13:52:17Z

@migi @allosius @ex3d0 @andidebob Thanks all! The look of the UI is thanks to Godot 4, I only did the layout and drag & drop functionality for instructions, which is why I opted out of graphics.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Motorist by IcyLava 2018-04-27T10:43:41Z

@blubberquark thanks for playing!

> I wish there was a minimap.

I did think of implementing a minimap but just never got around to it.

> I don’t see how the others influence my outcome. I can just come in dead last and get points.

Yeah, they don't really do anything except make it a bit harder to maneuver I guess. At first I thought you would have to compete with them, but I underestimated how difficult it is to make a competent AI. I went with a time limit instead and just left the opponents anyway.

Thanks for the feedback!
