I've started looking up your games every jam now and they never disappoint. Such a lovely little mystery game, not particularly difficult but very enjoyable, the voice acting, music, art and the fluidity of the gameplay itself was just fantastic. Always a joy to play your gamejam entries, look forward to the next one!

xindil 2023-10-04 19:39

This game is so well made! Love the humor and the art style, the idea of having actual little actors pretend to be the furniture in the scene is hilarious! The gameplay is also very well executed, only thing I would suggest is to add some UI on top so I can adjust the settings to fit my screen better.

langotriel 2023-10-05 00:59

Absolutely blown away. Even when expecting greatness, I didn't expect such a masterpiece.

Everything, from the concept to the execution, the presentation and gameplay, the music, voice and sound effects. EVERYTHING is fantastically well done and comes together to create a top tier LD entry, deserving nothing short of 5 stars.

It is without a doubt the best entry you have ever made, and the best entry I have ever played. I cannot imagine cramming more elegance of design into such a short period of time. It is practically flawless.

minjutin 2023-10-05 19:03

Such a delightful little murder mystery game, I liked the idea that it all happened in a theater. I don't know where the robbers came from, but that's totally fine (totally). It feels like everyone in your team has done their part perfectly. I need more murder mysteries to my life

I hope you get to fix your resolution problem, I had to switch computers to be able to play it :') (Honestly, tried to play it for 5 minutes without being able to see subtitles, then I read the comments and were confused how people were so enthusiastic. Only after I obtained inventory, I realized I had resolution problems)

egormnc 2023-10-05 19:07

nice game

bia-julian 2023-10-05 19:11

I really loved the visuals and audio. Unfortunately it was in the wrong aspect ratio in my pc, and I couldn't find a way to fix that - If there were any subtitles or text on the bottom, I could not read. But this is a game I would definitely play!

Hope you guys continue the project!

stealthorc 2023-10-05 19:14

Waaaahhhh I love the whole theme you guys went for! The aesthetics, the sound, the humor. I LOVE IT! I have nothing else to say, straight up 5/5. Keep the great work up!

simon-rahnasto 2023-10-05 19:20

@bia-julian The game is 1080p (1920 x 1080), we currently only support that but I will see if I can fix a 720p (1280 x 720) version later. The game indeed has subtitles, which is quite a major part of the game as it contains all of the information and clues you need to solve it. Sorry to hear that it didn't show for you!

Some people in the past have had a setting in windows which scales programs to 125%. If you have a normal 1080p monitor but still don't see the entire game, check that this is not the case (under display settings).

gamester1128 2023-10-05 19:22

The most polished game by far. EPIC EPIC EPIC.

sozey 2023-10-05 20:27

This had the polish of a full release! The animations are so cute, and the plot was a delight to follow and unravel. I liked the inclusion of the combat, and the whole theater aesthetics was genius, I laughed out loud at those ducks carrying car cutouts around. Great job to all of you guys.

logicon211 2023-10-06 23:19

it's frog time, also amazingggggg

larrymartinjr 2023-10-07 00:37

wonderful game! So polished

teaskyd 2023-10-07 02:23

Jam? Like a Compo! I'm impressed by how complete this game is, impressed by every aspect of it1

jinbu 2023-10-07 08:11

Geez, very very well polished game. The only functionality I wished it was there, would be to be able to skip dialogues.

falestress 2023-10-07 08:11

I love the visual ! GG team Amazing, so polished

trottero 2023-10-07 08:18

Excellent dialogue, sounds are great, love the atmosphere, the ducks holding up the decoration is great, the zoom when interacting is great. very good.

mycookie 2023-10-07 08:23

Impressive how polished the game is. Only note is the resolution, I couldn't read the text at all but it was fixed with your suggestion. I would like to have the next dialogue on a button click. The characters and art overall is done very well. The music fits so well in this game.

valeriapopova 2023-10-07 09:00

Looks very harmonious and complete, great work!

papaver 2023-10-07 10:54

What a great entry! :star:

I really loved the theatre setup, with the other ducks carying the decor around, that was very cute, funny and original! I managed to solve the mystery, although my character got invisible after I got into a fight outside. :ghost:

The music and graphics are perfect. Very well done!

sgtweirdo 2023-10-07 15:06

Really impressive entry, great little atmospheric game y'all made! Had a great experience going through it, felt like a proper demo for a full game! Great job!

teamelon 2023-10-07 15:07

Absolutely brilliant. Every aspect is just perfect, nothing more to add. 100/10

natano 2023-10-07 15:16

I got a little lost in the game, I confess, but maybe that's my eldest. So, speaking of what I saw, this game is great. In 3 days, for you to be able to do all this design with your own visual style, accompanied by good dubbing and a good soundtrack is very enviable. Congratulations for the game.

usagitsukino 2023-10-07 15:21

brilliant! a really cute game! graphics are cool, voiceover and music are cool. Bit too long interactions(sometimes I need to wait ~20seconds to make an action), but overall - great game

vivid-hallucination 2023-10-07 17:36

The fight sequences felt a little out of place, but otherwise I loved it. Fun, polished, entertaining writing and VO.

ecenizo 2023-10-07 18:13

My god this must been the most polished game i've seen in a jam. Incredibly well done, (clearly the advantage of having a coordinated team of talented individuals). The voice acting was amazing, the story great, even the fight sequences made sense in my head. I could perfectly see this being a longer and more feature rich game (maybe a bunch of small stories like this one). The low point for me (no that low honestly) was the theme: it's there but it could have been more explicit i feel. Top 3 of best games i've played this jam.

utopia 2023-10-07 18:31

Cool narrative and story. Really attracts me at first glance.

martta 2023-10-07 18:46

- Great voice acting - Good graphics - Nice and kind of innovative gameplay - I got the right suspect, but I kind of fell of the plot anyway. So many ducks that were kind of similar and weird names. I would have needed to take notes on pen and paper to understand all the clues - Fight sequences were nice addition, but were not explained very well. Maybe one voiceline in the final sequence would have tied them better in the plot, something like "He/she used mercenaries in trying to stop the detective". - Nice and innovative interperation of the theme, as everything happened in small limited space as a play. However it had only little gameplay implications.

Thanks for interesting and inspiring experience! I like this kind of Ludum Dare games that are small, interesting and polished short experiences. :-) Video games industry is too saturated for action games without nice story.

kuggenhoffen 2023-10-07 19:14

Quite a fun little mystery solving game. The goon ducks with their little placards are so funny. Great work!

fabula-rasa 2023-10-07 19:29

Mystery solved! The game is great. I really loved how you leaned into the theater setting - with ducks holding the scenery, curtain going down, the narrator setting the stage (narration is superb!). It's awesome.

The graphics are very nice and the mystery, while not particularly mysterious , is a joy to follow. I have only one tiny complaint - the music should be somewhat lower, as at the moment it tends to drown out the great narration.

Great jam game! Kudos for making it, and thank you for this fun experience!

buymybeard 2023-10-07 19:53

Really cool art and I really liked how the scenes were an actual play with props and the curtain draw when switching scene! I didn't really find the culprit though, the mystery didn't click for me.

Congrats on submitting!

javasaurus 2023-10-07 21:34

I absolutely loved this game! The voice acting was exceptional, truly bringing the characters to life. The graphics were stunning, and I was impressed by the innovative gameplay !

I successfully identified the right suspect, which made me feel accomplished. Even though I got a bit lost in the plot due to some similar-looking characters and unique names, it didn't dampen my enjoyment.

The game's interpretation of the theme, with everything unfolding in a small, limited space like a play, was a breath of fresh air. It may not have had a significant impact on gameplay, but it added a unique and creative aspect to the game.

Major kudos to the developers of this game, in my humble opinion it deserves a very high rating !

redoxeide 2023-10-08 00:11

Excellent job! Everything is so well executed. The graphics and the music are fantastic. I would agree with other commenters saying they would like a dialog skip, but maybe have it only available on dialog that was already read. That way players can skip to any line they missed without having to wait for every other line before.

Overall, a very polished game!

killerb 2023-10-08 04:34

Fowl Play, funny. This is one of the best games I've played in this jam so far. The graphics are nice, clean, and adorable. The camera zoom-in effect was a nice touch, especially in a game jam game. The music fit the makes for a nice backing track, and the voice narration is well done. The noises the characters make in lieu of voices reminds me of classic Nintendo games. For these lines, it would've been nice to right-click to proceed to the next line of dialogue.

sheepolution 2023-10-08 14:42

It's always amazing to see what you guys can do in such a short time. Not only is using a stage a very clever use of the theme, you executed it oh so well. The ducks holding the doors, using the curtains as a transition. Genius, and very cute!

Some pet peeves: I wish the text didn't go to the next automatically. Sometimes it was stressful to read everything quickly. And it's a detective game so you want to make sure you read and understanding everything right. Which brings me to my second pet peeve: Highlighting of important words would have been nice.

In the end I got it correct, but I slightly got this feeling that you are correct no matter who you choose. I replayed the game to confirm this not being the case.

The fighting felt a bit out of place. As if it's supposed to be there because it's a videogame, but to me it broke the immersion. Oh well. Great graphics, music, narrating and all that!

wendel-scardua 2023-10-08 15:38

I loved this game, one of my favorite things was the whole theater aesthetics with the ducks moving around the scenario ("vrooooom").

I should have gone with my first guess on my first playthrough, but I second-guessed myself and went for the wrong culprit, so I had to replay it 😅

ricardobusta 2023-10-08 15:46

Omg this game is so goooood! It's a complete experience, with an awesome story, cute cast of characters, amazing pixel art and also narrated. Would love to see more mysteries solved by Detective Frog.

Feedback

Would be nice if we could keep notes of the investigated things, since we can't return to other scenes at any given moment, and we just rely on our memory to summarise the facts.

Narrative-wise, it's not clear why there are bad guys trying to get rid of you.

ecmjohnson 2023-10-08 15:47

Excellent overall! I particularly like the framing as a play, which makes it feel very unique!

okshirl 2023-10-08 18:35

This was such a cute and polished entry down to every single detail. I loved the rhymes and the humour throughout. Great narration, even the ducks' voices had tone in it hahaha. And the ducks holding up the props was just adorable. Some feedback I have would be: - The fight scenes seemed too easy to even be necessary and as a player I wasn't prepared for them by the narrative. - I'd like to see the items again in my inventory just in case I forget what the note said before - personally I don't see the connection to the theme limited space, perhaps it's limited space to investigate? - for the hallway scene, it'd be nice to see which door leads to which room. Actually for all scenes this would be a nice addition I think. - **spoiler** The ending could have been a bit less obvious because one character's confession of getting rid of the weapon was too damning (nice twist tho)

Overall I really enjoyed this entry, a narrative game is a nice break from the other genres.

darkmax14 2023-10-08 19:11

Absolutley love the art this and story on this. Really enjoayble experience all round and it all fits together so well.

simon-rahnasto 2023-10-08 19:16

@okshirl Thank you for the feedback! Our connection to the theme was that it all took place on a theatre scene

zimny11 2023-10-09 19:09

The art style! The music! The idea! The set up! All are amazing! I absolutely love it :D The only feedback I have: the game does not fit fully my screen and some part is sticking out to the second monitor (not sure if the game is not in fullscreen or it is an issue on my side). Anyway, great job with the game!

simon-rahnasto 2023-10-09 20:17

@zimny11 Thank you for the kind words and feedback. Question: Is your monitor < 1920 x 1080? If not then you should check if windows is upscaling all your apps (Windows has started applying 125% scale on laptops by default for some reason). https://gyazo.com/6f9d53530d6ba15b5503bd4664b90e8e?token=cc4c80e4b64b0f3c1383c4a682dd328b

zimny11 2023-10-09 20:23

@simon-rahnasto It is 1920x1080 and yes, I have text and app scaling, so that might be it, but I had 125% set up for a long time - sadly eyesight issues... Thank you for looking into it!

tomssuli 2023-10-10 19:09

Wow! This game looks so polished. Graphics are top tier and the musics and voice acting are great. This game had somehow a Twin Peaks vibes to it.

I liked the story alot, everyone had their motives and relationships to someone or something. I deduced the murderer quite easily after I had gone through the evidence and interrogated the suspects. I would have expected a fight in the end, but at least this ending didn't trigger any.

Talking about fights, the fighting mechanic was clear and simple enough, the bullets were maybe a bit too big to dodge. The fights could have otherwise been harder, maybe the gangsters could have done dashes or something. I don't know what the punishment for dying was, as I never lost a fight.

I would have liked to have some notes when I had inspected something or interrogated someone. If the evidence in the end wasn't so damning I would have probably forgotten some details that could have mattered.

Anyways, cool game that had a complete feeling. It's amazing how much you have done in so little time! :sunglasses:

100th-coin 2023-10-15 17:01

There are so many details in this game, it's absolutely incredible. The incredible art design of having every object be a prop held up by a stagehand, the way the music chimes when killing an enemy, the way the dead enemies just flop around holding up a sign... all of it sets the greatest mood! (and the name of the game is such a good pun. Ah- I love it!)

I could write five more paragraphs, but I recorded myself playing the game and watching that would probably be better feedback. Cheers!

The idea that it all happens in a theatre is so smartly executed! A top-notch submission!
