Its fun!
Cool game, I love the background music.
I really dig the falling sound effect :)
Love it! And the sound design is really good. Like the falling sound a lot
Fun game :) The background music is seriously impressive. Game play is fun and challenging. Something which might be worth exploring is checkpoints so that you don't fall all the way down to the ground each time. Really enjoyed it.
Just got #1 on the leader board, however my name did not submit. Also I cannot enter certain characters for my name e.g. A is this a bug or feature?
[edit] Also dropping to the ground does not change my score.
@arron the missing characters is a bug, thanks for pointing that out. not sure why your name didnt get put on. (ill fix these soon :)) dropping to the ground only changes your current score, not your high score (the score in parenthesis) and if you drop far enough, your pig will go BLAM and your score will jump to your next highest pig. thanks for playin!
@riemann-integrable thank you! checkpoints were one of the features i considered adding, but instead i opted for pig-death (which doesn't seem to happen very often, so...) anyways, thanks for playing!
everyone else: thank you guys for playing! make sure you leave a rating and ill be returning the favor on your games :)
Cool game and good use of colors! The platforming was tight and the idea is very cool. I agree with @riemann-integrable about the use of checkpoints. At first I was using my pigs as ad-hoc checkpoints, so if I fell down with one I could continue with the other but the scoring mechanism punishes this behaviour. I liked the background music but I didn't really fit the rest of the aesthetics of the game.
@6smith Im sorry its a truly addictive game my friend has taken all 20 spaces on the leaderboard @thomas288
Could we also get a mute button
Also tip for anyone wanting to get a high score, skip all the pigs until you are really high and then get one
@arron lol i saw that! good job @thomas288 for finding an easy way to get points
Really nice background music, good controls, good graphics, intuitive, fun gameplay and a leaderboard. What more can I say. Really well done! :D
lovely music and colors.
Nice job! Solid, clean graphics. Great concept for the theme. I wish there were a little more friction on the platforms; it felt a bit slidey to me. I might just suck, though.
Scored 20,000 in about 3 hours of playing... For such a simple game it sure was addicting. Well done
Pretty addictive. Really nice colour combinations too. :)
Great take on the theme, excellent choice of music and the sound effects are very charming. Love the aesthetic!
Pretty great game, I zoned out and played it for 20min straight. Really love it.
Loved the music. Nice game, looks simple until you start playing it and it's addictive!!! Keep it up!
thanks for all the comments guys! <3
Interesting stylistic mixture, fun and engaging gameplay, the falling sound was a nice touch.
Cool game, well done!
Very fun to play, loved the music and a hard difficulty which was a blast! The character controls are very smooth and the game runs great. The graphics could have used a bit more touch but the gameplay really makes up for it.
I really love this one, the graphics looks very cool, despite the fact that there are only very few colors. i find the controls too quicker for me, the pigs move a little too fast. But it's a very nive entry !
Awesome game! the music is very fitting, love the simplistic graphics and controls.
Congrats on the entry!
Really loving the sound of the game, great use of music and sound effects, and was quite challenging trying to work out how I'd get them all up :D
Really cool take on the theme. Good platforming, fun music, insteresting mechanic.
I like the minimal style! It took me a while to figure out the pig with the ball was the lowest one.
The physics is sometimes a bit buggy, specially when you stack a bunch of piggies on top of each other, but nothing game-breaking.
The gameplay is really fun and the level is good to play. The camera movement could be smoother though.
Really fun game! I like the look of it :) I would have liked it better if you made your own music (with this being submitted for the COMPO and not the JAM), but at least the choice of music was good. The movement and jumping felt great, except for that I would some times land on my own pigs(?) and push them down through the platform. All in all a great take in the theme and a job well done! :)
@tim-eriksen yeah since this is my first time i didn't really understand all of the compo rules. my foolishness aside, the bug where you push your own pigs through platforms was something i dearly wanted to fix, but didn't have time to as it was an issue with the physics system the game engine came with. anyways, thanks for playing!
Cool restriction with the colors! So are you trying to tell us in a clever way that those people with mexican hats are, wait what? If you make a post-compo version, please make sure to add another jump button. Pressing up for double jump feels wrong for some reason. Awesome first entry!
Great movement, it felt very responsive. Loved the music and sound effects. I love the idea but later on when I had lots of "pigs" I found it a bit frustrating to have to get them all up to the same place, so I eventually gave up and focused on one of them, using the pigs as checkpoints. Also, it seemed easier to just kill the pigs at the bottom rather than get them to the same height as the others. I also noticed that the L shaped platforms actually had square hitboxes which resulted in me failing a few jumps. Also, it would have been nice to know which pigs where the highest and lowest. But overall an enjoyable game!
The colors are really well picked.
Looking at the previous comments, I'm not the only one with leaderboard issues.
Like everyone else, I LOVED the soundtrack and thought the falling sound was cool. Interesting that you mentioned pig death. I was sure my pig would die after that fall, but nothing happened. I just climbed back up again.
Checkpoints would be cool, but I can agree that no checkpoints make the game more challenging. But it also increases the chance of a ragequit.
All in all, one of my favourites. I love the tight controls!
Quite a strangely addictive experience. The limited color scheme certainly adds a lot to the hypnotic feeling. Jumping felt a bit stiff at first, but it actually works well with the platforms' spacing. Nice work.
@6smith No problem :) You've made a great game, and next time I'm sure you'll make some great music too!
Nice Idea. I was initially hoping for an end goal or winning condition but I think the endless mode is good too (it is endless, isn't it?). The art and music are really good too. Nicely done.
oh man, lots of stuff to address here!
@krasse i probably will make a post-LD version, and yes, one thing i definitely want to add is custom controls.
@budgiem2 it's true that you have to adjust your play style the farther you get. i think the pig death mechanic works well for some play styles, and checkpoints for others. in a post-LD version i think i'll probably add checkpoints. oh yeah, the L-shaped ones are actually rectangular because i didn't realize the engine only supports rectangular hitboxes. i didn't end up having time to fix that lol
@andreas-ragen-ayal pigs die after they have been falling for a little more than two seconds. i think a mix of pig death and checkpoints might be the way forward for a post-LD version.
@yetman it is endless!
thanks for your comments, everybody! i hope i've been able to address most of your questions.
Game 'feel' is nice and tight. Sfx make sense. Graphics are simple but effective. Just wish there was more to the game design! If I have to find any fault I'd say it'd have been nice to see more dynamics/flexibility in the camera system. Nice work.
You really nailed the graphics sfx music and atmosphere ! However, the more pigs you free, the more annoying it gets, they do not really add anything and it is hard to keep everyone on the same level. maybe make all the freed pigs follow you , unless you drop one for a puzzle ?
Nice Entry! music and graphics really fit together! i kinda waited something unexpected to happen. dragon to appear or something.. great game tho!
@trabitboy you're totally right that having a lot of pigs is annoying especially at the beginning. i've noticed that many people decide to skip getting pigs at the beginning in order to get their first couple hundred points easier. after you get high enough, dropping a pig results in their death, allowing the player to choose how many pigs they want to use. a solution to this problem might be placing the first extra pig much higher up the level, so that by the time you get there you are better at platforming reliably and you can skip the frustrating act of dropping a pig and having to get them back up again. anyways, there are definitely some changes that can be made to make the beginning much more forgiving and give each player a little more time to develop a strategy. something for me to think about! thanks for playing.
A really nice game !! From the simple art style all the way to the satisfying sound when you jump in the air ! One thing I would of done differently is reset the game when an pig falls to 0 (after the initial first 2 pigs), this way death would of felt more tense ! Anyway really fresh game to play, cheers :) !
Awesome game. I like this Atari-like graphics. But it's too hard =)
Very cool game, but boy do I suck at it! It really 'feels' like an old school game, which is really nice to go along with the tricolor pixel art. You nailed the whole 'damn this is frustrating but i'm gonna keep trying' thing. Awesome job!
Music was so good, did you guys make it?
I had fun playing, and you hit the theme because as I got more pigs having one fall a long way was a real "OH NOOOOO" moment since i'd have to climb him all the way back up.
I got really high and was surprised at how large the level was that you guys built. I kept expecting to find the end but it just kept going.
Toward the end I just took one pig at a time up to see if i could find it and I climbed until I unavoidably fell back down.
Are you the guy who suggested '3 colors' for a theme by any chance? lol
@burgee the music is public domain work, see a few messages above for the explanation :)
the level is procedural! you get a new one every time you refresh the page. it's also endless!
nope, i was not the one who suggested that theme. it's an even funnier coincidence considering that at least one other game uses a three-color palette!
thanks for playing!
I like it, but I think there should be a way to lose (or win). Just the score does not really motivate me to go on, because I could go on forever without really losing or winning. That kept aside, I really like most about this game, from graphics over sound to the gameplay.
@triastase you're totally right, and its something i tried to alleviate. guess i didn't get it quite right! (also there is a way to lose! it's just not very common among heights lower than ~500) thanks for playing!
interesting game but i was not sure what i was doing - liked the sound effects lot - nice game
Really good simple game, I loved the art it is so simple but looks so good, the gameplay is also very fun, really cool job, what I loved the most was the ragtime soundtrack, awesome music, great job !
Very innovative, and fun. The platforming was pretty solid, except that physics engine problem with knocking friendly pigs downward through the platforms. Enjoyable game, also the art was well done considering the palette choice! Nice work!
The falling sound is excellent :)
I played this for way too long, finally gave up at 3406 :P
Maybe some sort of minimap at the side of the screen would have been nice, so I could better know which pig is selected and where he is (or maybe how high he is) relative to others.
The art style is nice and it has simple but addictive gameplay. Nicely done :D
@icylava it's funny you mention the minimap, because that's definitely something i'm planning on adding in a post-jam version. thanks for playing!
The showtunes music pairs well with the idea of having to control ultimately infinitely number of characters--enhances the franticness of the situation.
Also *really* happy how you allow for double jumping and air jumping. Great to see LD platformers that are brave enough to allow for that.
I thought there was a top and was wondering when I would get there (and drop off all my people). But I misunderstood how the game worked. The platforming was pretty good though the constantly moving camera made me feel a bit uneasy. I did run into some situations where there would be a much longer platform above a shorter platform, and it was pretty hard to try and jump onto the shorter platform since the higher platform was out of reach. Like the theming and the colors. Keep up the good work!
that's cool, definitely one of the more innovative games in the jam in addition to that the sound and graphics set a very happy mood, I like it
