Hey there! I have more or less decided on the rules of my game yesterday. Today i'll be building some AI.

Auto attacking mechanic was pretty cool, and the bosses with the dialog at the bottom was a nice touch. Wasn't really sure what all of the items were doing though.

demandooda 2017-07-31 19:27

Cool game. Loved the music and graphics, and the combat was unique and entertaining. This is a really cool game.

morphine 2017-07-31 19:29

Hey there - congrats on releasing! I just wanted to let you know that I just had a blast playing your game but had a little bit of trouble with figuring out how to pick stuff up, or if I had picked stuff up, or if it was even doing anything. I saw all sorts of stuff come out of treasure chests, but I couldn't seem to pick anything up. Maybe I missed something. I laughed at the "I'm going to fucking kill you". For some reason this game reminded me of agar.io in like a medieval land. not bad!

adrien-dittrick 2017-07-31 19:29

The items are mostly stat boosts, except the purple hand which allows you to push walls :)

luckyfeathers 2017-07-31 19:46

Neat. I'm always impressed by LD games with procedurally generated maps. Would probably take me the whole weekend just to complete that part! :p Game does feel a bit chaotic to new players though. A mini-map would help.

adrien-dittrick 2017-07-31 19:56

I had ideas for a magic power that let's a map appear, similar to the gameboy gme "Dragon Slayer"

tacohej 2017-07-31 20:24

Damn son, the amount of loot in this game!

I had some fun with this. I used the power glove to rebuild around my base, making it easier to farm all that sweet loot. I think I got too high movement speed, because I basically had no control in the end.

I didnt get the enemies at first, but then I realised that enemies -> xp -> higher values on loot. Nice! Multiplayer would probably work really good. Well done

adrien-dittrick 2017-07-31 20:26

Oh yeah there are definitely plans to add multiplayer next week!

notiiivan 2017-07-31 20:50

Fun game! My only issues with it were that dragging powerups to your base was so frustratingly slow that I never really did it after the first few, and that the last king was, for whatever reason, really difficult to track down.

I liked the auto-attacking, which really streamlined the intentionally grindy fighting, and made it feel a lot better (and even kinda satisfying) as opposed to spam-clicking. It's also bonkers to me that you got procedural generation done so well in 48 hours, and overall the game was short and fun. Well done!

nintendoeats 2017-07-31 20:52

Very impressive! It really feels like it was designed to be a multiplayer game, but it works as a quick single player experience. It would probably need a more advanced combat system to be fun in multiplayer, but it's close.

Actually attacking doesn't have much of a feel. The disadvantage of auto-attack is that the player feels disengaged, so that's something to consider.

I found the game very easy as-is, because I could just walk around collecting the power-ups around my castle and then kill everything in sight. The carrying back power-ups idea is cool, but I think they need to be rarer.

White text on grey = bad!

The music fits the game well. So very much bass though, I had to turn my subwoofer down.

Really good entry!

aircraft-terrier 2017-07-31 22:01

Very cool to do an action RPG, I dig it. Unfortunately, the game ran extremely slowly for me, making everything from combat to collecting items rather tedious. I think with more time to tweak the stats/gameplay (or maybe even just optimize the code a little more for less slowdown), this would be a great webgame! Thanks for making it and sharing it.

adrien-dittrick 2017-08-01 08:08

Plans to optimize the code are on the way :) Maybe for the end of the week.

jackyjjc 2017-08-01 14:20

Yay I have beat the game!

Graphics - the characters were simple but looks quite nice. I couldn't tell what are the monsters though. The fact that the color changes when you walk into an enemy territory is kind of cool.

Sound, Music - pretty good sound effects, I noticed different power up have different sound effects which was neat. Music was quite epic and worked well with the theme.

Gameplay: the core gameplay is sound I think, it is a nice twist to traditional rpgs. I had fun leveling up my characters. However, there are quite a few issues with the gameplay (not major issues because I find the core game loop is quite fun): - I think the map is a bit too big. In the end I had trouble finding the last king. With a huge map, the fun is less concentrated and less resource contention beteween the kings. - There are wayyyyy to many pick ups. The idea of picking up power is cool. However there are way too many of them and as a player I was quite confused why there were so many pickups. At the end I found out I actually didn't need many of them. I can easily farm enemies and get levels without picking up a lot of the powers. Picking up and putting back to the castle is very tedious with that many pickups as well. I suggest you significantly cut down the number of pick ups but make them more powerful (tune down the movement speed as well so you can't quickly pick up all of them). With less pickup and a smaller map, all the kings will have to fight for the pick ups which would make things interesting - Enemies spawn way too frequently and there are way too many of them. I kind of got confused about why there are enemies and they spawn instantly. They provide a lot of exp and leveling up give you stats as well. So i found it more optimal to just sit at enemies spawns and farm them instead of going through the processing of picking up power ups.

With that said, the core game is definitely enjoyable. I spent 15 minutes playing the game and beating it tells you that it is fun :) However I think you need to drastically scale back down all of the elements and try to create a more resource sacred world where player and AI actually have to fight for survival which will make the game better.

Thanks for the game though I enjoyed it!

adrien-dittrick 2017-08-01 16:14

Future version will have scaleable world size incoming :p

zelos 2017-08-01 17:22

I had quite a bit of fun and it's definitely a good game. I liked the gameplay a lot and there's quite a good amount of content here. I had a few issues though: - It's much quicker to move diagonally, isn't it? Seems like the movement vectors are multiplied but not normalized. - There's a really annoying popping sound every 2 seconds. Might be in the soundtrack. - Too many enemies at the circles. I could just stand there and level up like crazy. It felt like I didn't even need to collect powerups, because they give so much exp. - The web build runs very slowly for some reason.

Overall it's a really cool game. It just lacks a bit of polish and balancing. Good work though.

binaryspark 2017-08-01 17:49

Hmmm, this is a bit of a strange one imo. For the most part I didn't really know what I was doing; some explanation or tutorial popups would be nice. For example, I didn't figure out that you could pick up these powerup items and bring them back to the castle.

But once I got into it a bit more, I could see a charming little RPG. The sound effects are nice, and it's programmed well. I just think you could maybe put some more time in balancing some things. I've seen other comments mention that at some point you can just stand still near the summoning circles and instantly kill anything that comes close.

Overall, I think it's nice, definitely has potential, just needs a little bit of polish.

adrien-dittrick 2017-08-01 18:22

Well this was made in 48 hours with very little breaks, so polish is not something I had access to :p but i'm slowly improving it (version 1.1 is already on)

larx 2017-08-01 18:41

It's strange. In a good way. Slighly confusing in some aspects, for example I took quite a while to find the last king. Overall I thought it was quite fun

wrexialmt 2017-08-01 19:20

Daaaamn this is good :D That purle hand is mvp imo for gameplay. Well done dude

james-dunlap 2017-08-01 19:59

I had fun playing this game. At first, I went directly after the bosses because I didn't realize there were powerups hidden behind the gray boxes. Once I had that figured out, it became clear that it is a typical RPG where you have some grind work to do before the bosses. Good entry.

vivoubos 2017-08-01 20:08

Nice game!!! Really enjoyed it!

You IA his quite stupid , 3 of them were level 2 ^^

But very nice, they effect when you approach from one of your ennemy with the music change!!

The farm to get stonger, with the item and the ennemy!

Just good job!! Best game ever!!

(play the original version)

adrien-dittrick 2017-08-01 20:51

the AIs are not supposed to be clever, they're supposed to be different :p

knowledge 2017-08-01 22:40

Nice game. Not really my type of game but nevertheless it was fun to play. After I found out I can move my castle with hand power it became too easy.

cudabear 2017-08-02 02:04

Fighting feels really lackluster, it would be nice if I could do more than just control positioning. hard to escape from higher level mobs. Enemy kings get stuck on geometry. The mechanic of collecting items to upgrade your king felt good, but I was overly encouraged to collects items early on not realizing that they would do me more benefit later. Exploration was really fun but hard to tell where you are in the world. Would be great as an IO game!

sixteen 2017-08-02 06:17

Having a sort of competitive rogue-like was a really interesting idea! I wasn't particularly good at it which meant I didn't see what the diminishing power was actually about. Also I collected a hand first and then didn't know how to drop it to get new upgrades.

pavelsovushkin 2017-08-02 08:16

Hey! good work! But when I try play in online - unless downloawding.

2017-08-02 11:06

Neat game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AUyAsiiWQQ

mars 2017-08-02 12:35

I really liked this game, it was short and sweet. It took me a little while to understand how the power-ups worked. At first I thought I needed to pick them up and then that was it, but when I saw there were so many I expected there to be something more to it. Once I found out, I grew massively powerful.

If I have any complaint, it's probably that the other kings were pretty terrible at powering up. I just needed to find a monster spawn point and farm it for a little while, then grab some pick-ups, and all of the kings ended up being really weak in comparison.

The combat system was quite nice, the auto-attack was an interesting mechanic. Very satisfying once I built up some speed too!

markwolf 2017-08-02 13:16

I really love the mechanics which I consider really innovative. At least something different from a shooter or platformer... or a platform shooter. The more I play and the more I like. A multiplayer will definitively put the game at a higher level of fun. And beyond the scope of the LD39, this game deserves HD graphics to draw the attention to players who do not take the time appreciate a good game when there is no fancy High res graphics.

baby-dino-herd 2017-08-02 14:22

Really impressive to see such an expansive and wide-scoped design! Like others have said, I wish the font was a little more easy to read, as well as the attack animation (was hard to see when I was attacking since the sword would often overlap my opponent's).

adrien-dittrick 2017-08-02 14:55

Well those comments have given me incentive to continue this project :) Thanks a lot :D

thaaks 2017-08-02 17:37

Nice game! The graphics were simple, but fit the game. Sound was good. I also liked the gameplay. Improvement suggestions: less pickups, maybe also allow placing them in any castle? It seems there was some little bug while I played: I couldn't reach areas on the far right and bottom. Something was off I guess. The mechanics were really good and I think you've created a great prototype that you can work on! Very good job!

icylava 2017-08-03 11:19

I think I'm addicted...

Though, you can easily become overpowered and quickly kill the other kings, still really fun to rack up the numbers though.

Really great for a compo game, well done :D

knatt 2017-08-04 18:06

I posted this on the update page and not the actual game page so I'm sorry if you're reading this twice :cold_sweat:

I like the gathering of powerups and how the combat is done. I can see this sort of game being expanded upon in so many different ways.

That being said, this game can get a little repetitive. The upgrades that you pick up are very small and can get outclassed by enemies quickly

commanderstitch 2017-08-05 03:33

This game is super cool. I love almost everything about it. :) cute sprites, fun and interesting ideas, i can't really kill all the things, but that's okay. :-) nice jobbbbb

pheonise 2017-08-06 01:44

Really enjoyed the idea of balancing between upgrading stats from items in chests and leveling-up off attacking enemies! The auto-attacking is a pretty good idea, but with high movement speed it makes it tricky to face an enemy to attack them.

Had fun playing, though!

svr-audio 2017-08-06 13:57

The art is simple but looks so good, it is a good idea, the gameplay is good, and it is everything very well made for a 1 person's work, if the sfx could be not too loud would be even better, great work overall.

eremiell 2017-08-08 14:17

Sadly space didn't work for me in browser and controls in general got stuck a lot. Otherwise great idea and I believe very enjoyable game. Would certainly retry if you make a Linux64 export.

pixzleone 2017-08-12 15:40

I beat the game!

The idea is pretty good and even though the actual gameplay is pretty simple, it's pretty fun! The balancing is the biggest problem, along with the fact that the AI is pretty bad.. Even though it took me some time beating the game, it wasn't really challenging. Sometimes a really powerful enemy would appear, but since I had farmed up my speed I could just run away with my castle. It also annoyed me a little bit that there were invisible walls. It doesn't really matter gameplay wise, but I'd prefer an immovable wall of another color. I'm still a little bit confused by the world power thing, it never went anywhere under 1300 and I still don't really know what it actually did.

Graphics work pretty well even though they are simple. Music and sound is nice.

Well done!
