Dude this is awesome!!!

gear-steak 2019-04-29 06:13

This seems like it could be really interesting but it felt like I was essentially dead ended into specific choices. I was only able to choose twice in the few rounds I did

vfqd 2019-04-29 07:30

@gear-steak I ran out of time to make content - I definitely agree that more encounters would be nice

wongkongphooey 2019-04-29 17:48

Great interpretation of the theme! A lot of strategy and content for a jam game and some nice graphical elements too. Well done! This is one of the most memorable games that I've come across so far.

drunkardwolf 2019-04-29 21:11

Great game, great art and atmosphere. was a bit confusing, would be nice to have a better explanation of what to do, other than that though this is a fantastic entry

dinosire 2019-04-30 03:09

MOOD. Looked amazing! I'm not sure I dig the timers on the cards as it made me panic and kinda skim all of the cards. Pretty cool concept tho, and super ambitious to make a card game for a jam. Great job!

vfqd 2019-04-30 07:52

Thanks for the feedback I'm glad you guys enjoyed it! @dinosire the timers were very deliberate, I wanted to simulate the passage of time. I do understand the anxiety it might have caused though  I tried to make the times long enough that that didn't really matter but I would definitely think about adding a pause in future

pablotitan 2019-04-30 09:40

Great sound, atmospheric game :D

drauthius 2019-04-30 11:35

I quite liked the entry! Very ambitious and functioned very well. Would have liked the ending to be a bit different (the alignment score didn't say anything to me).

oivin-f 2019-04-30 12:09

Interesting entry, the one that have kept me entertained the longest so far! Quite innovative - great job!

le-slo 2019-05-01 00:32

- So I've played 3 times and I didn't really get in what is based the score. I guess blue cards are bad? But how? When is the The End card appearing? My last run was clearly longer than the other two, was that a sign that I was playing good? My record is 6, is that bad? - The timers in the cards were pretty confusing, and stopped me from reading the stuff on the first run. - The sounds reminded me to element crush. that combined with the setting and how the conversion of cards works, perfect atmosphere. - The swapping, change of cards was a nice mechanic. I would love to replay if I understood better was my goal. I actually already had fun trying to uncover the secrets of the game. - Since there are timers, I wish the cards stacked into a single pile per type of card, with the card with the least time on top. Good job!

tweedle 2019-05-01 01:34

Cool mechanic and way to choose your own adventure!🃏🃏🃏

vfqd 2019-05-02 10:35

@le-slo So it was supposed to be more of a narrative game and less of a game you could "win." I think it would be a cool idea to experiment with a goal. Originally, I wanted to have player goals like "wealth" or "knowledge" or "power" but I ran out of time. I'm very glad to hear you enjoyed figuring things out. That was one of my aims. Yeah the timers were a bit messy, I'd have liked to clean them up a bit. Thanks so much for the feedback

@drauthius The ending didn't work super well, it was just supposed to be a narrative device, but you can see some of my explanation above :)

majadroid 2019-05-02 18:54

I loved the game. The mood is fantastic. Great job!

recursor 2019-05-02 18:59

I saw this was a card game and immediately wanted to play it as I too did a card game for my entry. The atmosphere is lovely with the sounds and the graphics. I found myself playing until the very end, and I'm afraid I lived an evil life. One problem I had was that occasionally I would be unable to grab a card. I'd have to move the cursor off of it, then try again and it would usually work. I'd say this is the most interesting and engaging entries I've played thus far.

vfqd 2019-05-02 20:16

@majadroid @recursor Thanks for the kind words and the feedback :)

sergi-montaner 2019-05-02 22:16

Very nice. Super moody game, and amazing setting, with the table, the cards, the rain, etc.

It remembers me of the phone game Underhand.

The worst part for me is that I didn't know what to do to get a better score. The scoring felt random to me.

liauj 2019-05-03 00:31

-14, guess I'm pretty evil.

This was super interesting! The timers ticking down made me feel like I had to hurry and pick an option... then I thought how poorly that would translate to real life and figured meh, I'll take my time and read everything :P

I really like the concept, though I'd like to know how the scoring works so I could see other narratives at the end! This reminds me alot of the old man that hands you the tarot cards in Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen.

vfqd 2019-05-03 09:46

Hey @sergi-montaner and @liauj I'm glad you both enjoyed it. Yeah I think adding the alignment was probably a mistake - it was never supposed to be a "score" more just sort of a reflection on the way you played. But I don't know if it really works for a game like this. The scoring wasn't actually random, doing good things, like giving the beggar your lucky charm increased your alignment, doing bad things, like stealing from the carriage decreased it. But I can understand how it felt bad to not know exactly what was happening

fashionbatman 2019-05-03 17:37

All around great job! It felt like a couple different game genres the fit together really well. The atmosphere was wonderful too.

64mega 2019-05-03 20:01

I had a good time with this, I like how you set up the choices and resources! I hope you take this further in the future.

ekilibr 2019-05-04 16:31

Really interesting entry. The random feeling was sometimes a bit harsh as it'd feel like you don't have that much choices...But maybe it's intentional, considered we're talking about life here, and sometimes the illusion of choice doesn't bring you anywhere...

The mood of the game and the mechanics lying behind it are really great and innovative. Wasn't expecting to stumble upon an entry like that when looking at the theme.

Really well done!

coatline 2019-05-05 19:47

Pretty cool entry! It was pretty much telling your life by the choices you made. I played until I died. Here's another card game that I found pretty interesting https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/44/card-boxer

peachtreeoath 2019-05-07 05:42

Tbh..............I actually liked this more than Cultist Simulator (at first) lol. I know your game is more simple but it is more focused and presents your options more intuitive than I thought CS did. Now, CS did grow on me eventually but I had to replay it quite a bit to figure out how to finally play it. I think your theming is amazing and I loved the concept of reviewing your life. For a compo game this is absolutely insane execution, I can't believe you did this alone!

vfqd 2019-05-08 20:53

@peachtreeoath That's one of the nicest comments I've ever received on a game, thank you so much!

jordgubben 2019-05-14 19:48

It's a bit stressful read while all the timers are ticking down. Other than that I really enjoyed this piece of interactive storytelling. Might try to do something in the same genre for a future jam.
