Nice game. Difficulty scaled a little fast for me (was easy then suddenly got impossible)
Very nice. I wanted to keep playing to get even bigger fish. (actually took me a while to figure out how to pick up food - because you have to right on to and then click on it?)
Thanks for comments! I agree that controls could be better - I got them "good enough" and went on with the rest of game. Once you get used to them they aren't too bad, it's kind of fun to glide around, managing wing flaps, I think. If I worked on it more, the first thing I would try changing would be to eliminate the mouse aim talon grab (things too small/moving too fast for it work well).
@Mizipzor Theme applies because you are a giant bird who eats people... I didn't go any deeper than that ("the monster" vs. "a monster")
@kidando Yes, I did music myself. I recorded myself playing tin whistle for 10 minutes, cut out the worst 98% of it and added reverb.
@Zccc Thanks, I fixed my profile page (I had never made a post on the main page of Ludum Dare - I made a new post about my game, and that seemed to force my profile page into existence)
I found the best approach was to attack backwards and down (left/down) because you go fastest that way! I also made a game based on a bird of prey.
I transformed into a dragon. I am the dragon.
Took me a minute to wrap my head around the idea of snake-style game where there is gravity... and the snake is rigid? Really cool!
Pretty cool. I made it to the asteroid level - almost made it by them... but they kept smoking me.
Haha, awesome. I also wanted to do a game based off being an monster in mario... but it seemed like it would be short. Starting with the training was a great idea.
Very nice graphics. I like to turn my keyboard sideways while playing.
Thanks for trying it everyone. A single player mode would be great, but doing a decent partner AI would take quite a while, outside of the jam time frame. Apparently Lovers did an AI partner that was pretty good (never tried it though, I only ever played it co-op).
Good job! Shares some similarities with the game that we made (ours is also in the ocean controlling a character who is controlling a vessel... except co-op and side scrolling instead of top down)
@qux Yeah, the black background was just because I didn't have time to put a scrolling star field in the background. I know it's a bit disorienting because you have no reference for your velocity... but the bases are close enough together that I left it as is.
@iamscissors The creature is based on a pet hairless rat that used to have... Yeah, I recommend googling "hairless rat" - they are spectacular.
@patrickjr Thanks, I used a symphonic library to create the music - it has realistic sounding horns, strings, drums, etc. It made it surprisingly easy to create epic sounding music, even though I have no idea what I was doing.
And yeah, I totally agree on needing more effects - just ran out of time!
@alaska Doing dynamic music was actually surprisingly easy, I've never really tried doing it before. And I agree some sort of mini map or indicator of close energy sources would be necessary in a real game.
Well my crew didn't make it very far, but nicely done game!
Really fun! Started very easy, then ramped up really fast and I became overwhelmed. Probably need to tweek the difficulty curve, or maybe I just suck. Sound effects when passenger ships are coming in would have been really helpful too. But it's a game jam, so no time for everything, I know :) Good job!
Funny game. Good job with audio and variety of voice overs!
Really clever idea! This could be expanded into something great!
Loved the graphics. My poor chicks all got captured. :(
Interesting puzzle mechanic!
Good game. I made it to the second level, but wasn't exactly sure what to do, so I lost. I wish it had restarted from the second level so I wouldn't have to play the entire first level again. In any case, good job!
@flying-dog-fish Yeah, I was confused by the instructions because you are also a fly... so I thought the first graphic was telling me to go into the plant... and the second one was telling me to avoid the plant. Obviously that doesn't make sense - so I think I had to just figured out what they meant, but it was too late and I had died. Haha, always assume the player is even dumber than you previously thought possible, I guess!
Nice graphics and sound. Very stressful and fun.
Nice graphics and music. The main problem that I had was missing the beat - I think a sound latency calibration is usually necessary for this type of game - unfortunately not the kind of the thing we have time to do in a game jam! I could tell that on my computer I was better off rushing the beat - then it would always register. In any case, good job! I've been thinking about making a rhythm game, so I love playing other people's rhythm games.
Amazing art and great sound too! Good job.
Best stadium wave simulator that I have ever played.
Quite funny, good job.
I liked the pencil art, I wish you had been able to add it to the tile art as well. Could be a cool style.
Controls are pretty unforgiving due to high acceleration/speed and slippy feel - but I had fun for a few minutes, good job!
Nice game. You've taken the genre to the next level with the narrative :) "Drifting" controls are bit a wonky feeling (you have to stop to change directions?) but I suppose that is on purpose to simulate roomba controls? Great job!
Fun physics based game. Difficult to control! Good job!
