This is probably the best one I've played so far, really really enjoyed this game. Excellent graphics, audio, gameplay, everything is polished and works, the game feels balanced and keeps the pace going without ever feeling too easy or too difficult. Not much to really add except I hope you find ways to take this further and expand on it. Excellent work for something made in a weekend.

aryanjumani 2020-04-21 11:21

One of the best games around here! But the game hung once i reached 20K subscribers. The music, sound and the graphics were too good. The optical effect made the game look so much better!! Loved it.

pechedodue 2020-04-21 11:23

The gameplay is fun but maybe a little more challenging would be nice, btw I really like the graphics and the music, Good Job!!

framboisedodue 2020-04-21 11:35

Good game, pretty addictive, although with time it gets static with the number of elements on screen. My party got completely stuck at some point :( But still a great work! It would be nice if there was a bit more challenge too !

mowemax 2020-04-21 11:43

Really nice game, I agree with others that a little bit more challenging would be nice to have. Also, thank you for allowing disabling shaders, it's extremely annoying (I wouldn't mind a little bit of it, but the current one is a bit over done). Other than that, great aesthetics, and overall gameplay is nice!

backurio 2020-04-21 11:43

Thank you very much for your feedback. It's unfortunate, that the game got stuck for you at such an early state, but it might be that your PC just can't handle that many objects, which I know is a problem that can occur. But the idea was to have all that bubbles flowing over your screen, mesmerizing you. That's also a reason why the challenge part was tuned down a little.

backurio 2020-04-21 11:50

@aryanjumani I just recognized that the game is really not running well for the WebGL version on some PCs. If you, and all the others who might read this, have the change to play Windows version of the game, please do so. This version should normally run very smoothly and super smooth if you have a decent graphics card.

theinkskeleton 2020-04-21 13:28

Wow! Very nice game! The graphics are great. The sound and the gameplay lag quite a bit in the web version, but in the Windows version it works quite better. It still lagged a bit sometimes, but I think that's just my computer. Just a question, is the fact that there's no music in the web version intentional? Anyways, great game!

backurio 2020-04-21 14:02

@theinkskeleton Thank you very much for the kind feedback. The Web version should have a soundtrack, but we used FMOD the first time and we had some issues. I think the web version does not like FMOD so much... On my PC it's working fine. On my laptop it was very choppy... Things you learn at a game jam I guess :D

arden 2020-04-21 15:10

Fun little game! I found it challenging to know if an "enemy" was on screen without constantly running around. some sort of indicator might be nice, especially with all the views/subs/cash "noise." Perhaps all that "noise" could be smaller, too?

I also found the challenge a little bit low. (Maybe it picks up more later)

Around the time i got to about 2.7m subscribers, the game suddenly dropped frames quite harshly. If the game was paused, framerate picked back up again. That was where I quit. (I saw the "windows version preferred" note after I played it in web)

Thanks!

batswinger 2020-04-21 16:29

Very original arcade/tycoon game. Loved the simple controls, and the gameplay feels satisfying. I didn't really know if the troll icons were a good thing, or if you should avoid them. Graphics are amazing too. Good work!

jay-berlin 2020-04-22 14:35

Nice smooth gameplay, but I think it could be a little more challenging to keep my MyTube channel alive and hit that 100 million subs. Otherwise, I really like the concept, the gameplay is responsive and smooth, and the art style is really great. I'd love to see this game expanded upon.

backurio 2020-04-22 16:00

@jay-berlin Thank you very much for your positive feedback. Our goal wasn't to create a very challenging game. It was more about the concept of all the stuff moving around that should at first look great and fun to watch. The challenge was second, but I spent a lot of time tweaking the parameters to get the numbers somewhat believable. For a good challenge curve there was just too little time... sadly

sandra-martinez 2020-04-23 02:04

Is it me or the sfx is a little big lagging when I shoot? Anyway, the graphics is great, the gameplay is smooth and the sfx is okay. I think you should consider making the collecting icons stand out more. Overall, I really enjoy playing your game!

sandra-martinez 2020-04-23 02:04

Your game deserves more rating than it is having now

krapht 2020-04-23 11:53

Well done. Great game design. I love how Even as the field got crowed I always new there was a bad guy when they showed up. The bright colors look amazing. I played with the filter on but loved that it was an option to turn off. I did end up crashing my game by saving up a but load of collectables and dorping them all on one video. It started generating so many large icons that the game sent to 1 frame a second.

saering 2020-04-23 12:18

Nice entry! It was fun to play, here are some feedback: - the post processing effect is very hard for the eyes, lens distorsion + chromatic aberration is a dangerous mix and I feel you went a bit far on the values. It's great you added an option to remove that, but if you did, that might mean you knew it was not visually comfortable ? - controls and tutorial phase are very neat and it is the main reason I enjoyed the game. However, after 2-3 minutes of gameplay, I thought it was a bit boring just wandering, picking up things and going near the enemies with no other input that direction. If I need to attack someone, I want to do it myself, by spamming some button or at least keeping it pressed. - the things I had to pick up (subs, money, etc.) were just lost in the middle of the incoming likes at some point, which did not help me knowing what I was doing. And that leads me to the next point : this is too easy and it doesn't require strategy to win. You just go near the enemies when they come, and then you run around and it works. I would have like a better difficulty curve, some levels maybe, it was too easy and linear - audio is great!

Overall, great job on this entry ! It is polished and complete which is very nice

teo-yong-jie 2020-04-23 19:51

very creative idea! visually the game looks great but a visual indicator for the enemies off screen i think can help improve the game overall. I feel that more things need to be added to make the gameplay loop less repetitive and boring, for example maybe using the cash to earn some passive bonuses?

aymeric-le-moal 2020-04-24 00:03

This is a very creative idea, however it feels a bit too simple to me. The graphics and audio are awesome, but i felt like doing the exact same thing from start to end :/. Great game overall tho !

tony-artz 2020-04-24 12:32

Really amazing game. Great artwork and concept. Really love the amount of polish you all put in. Great work.

zampi 2020-04-24 12:38

I love how Sebastian manage to draw so many entities on frame – great job! Game is fun and so engaging, but I guess a little bit more challenge is required.

backurio 2020-04-24 13:01

@zampi Thank you very much for addressing me directly. Having all these entities on screen was the main idea of the game. It should be a crazy mess of moving items on the screen. That's why I also decide to lower the challenge aspect a little bit. But as I already found out, it was lowered too much. Big note to myself, don't make your game too easy :sunglasses:

backurio 2020-04-24 13:04

@saering Thank you very much for your in depth feedback. I really appreciate your feedback a lot. All of your points are totally valid and also things that were still left on my todo list. So the blame here is on the time limit and my bad time management maybe :see_no_evil:

I will of course return the favor and give you an proper feedback for your game too. I'm just very busy because the next game jam is coming up. Don't worry, I will not forget it

saering 2020-04-24 13:09

@backurio Haha no problem, take your time ! You're welcome for the feedback, time management is hard and we all have things that we could have done with more time, but that's the spirit of the event :p I'll be happy to play your game again if you work on an improved version!

sunnray 2020-04-24 13:41

I enjoyed playing it. Audio design is really good. I noticed that it was really helpful to hear where the threat is coming from. Gameplay got repetitive after a while, but at the start it was really fun to play. My game got stuck after about 69 mil subs (what a number to be stuck on), unfortunately. Overall, a unique and engaging gameplay idea with nice graphics and sound!

backurio 2020-04-24 14:01

@saering Yeah, the time management was a little on the optimistic side and slightly shifted back more and more, making it impossible to work on the points you mentioned. I'm really unhappy that this happened, but yeah, getting a game jam game to be perfect is something very unlikely. It's also more about trying out new stuff and creating a unique game instead of some default game that was done thousands of times before.

I don't know if you will ever play an improved version. I have many other game ideas going which I think have more potential than this game. But if there is an improved version, I will inform you, but you can also follow me on twitter if you want. Info on my ludum dare page.

xel 2020-04-24 17:39

You did it. You convinced me. I now have the training I need. Tomorrow I quit my job and become a full time Youtuber. Thanks so much for giving me this confidence!

But seriously, really well done. Extremely polished game!

dinamite 2020-04-24 17:53

Nice idea! It's a clever view on the theme and it was fun playing. My only suggestion it's to change (maybe) the graphics of the house at different milestones because pretty often I don't have the time to see how many subs I have. Really good entry!

bart-wach 2020-04-24 21:06

Feels like a proper, finished game, well explained tutorial. The only thing I didn't like is the sphere together with neon color makes my head hurt when I play.

zfert 2020-04-24 21:09

Really liked the style and the gameplay!

dingotime 2020-04-25 05:54

Interesting combination of theme and abstract gameplay. I really like the visual style. Quite addictive too. Great job!

interpixel 2020-04-25 06:31

great job, add a few challenges and some upgrades and the fun should go up.

mandarad 2020-04-25 15:39

Very cool concept, took me about 8 minutes to win. The sort of screen effect really started to hurt my eyes after a while, though. But overall the graphics are on point.

A really well put together game jam, great job!

thedouche 2020-04-25 17:18

really liked this game, cool art style fun game play what more to ask for? :D

max-louis 2020-04-28 09:02

Really enjoyed playing this on stream last night (as you know ;)). Brilliant idea and I love the "true-to-life" elements. I loved that so much was going on the screen at once, it created a tense gaming experience which I love. The smaller parts like the font are so perfect too, so well done there! Looking forward to streaming more of your games soon! Great entry :)

backurio 2020-04-28 09:55

@max-louis Thank you very much for the feedback and playing my game on your stream yesterday. I really enjoyed watching you and I'm looking forward to you streaming more of my games soon ;)

I will of course also checkout your game as soon as I have time. I already checked the website and it's crazy how many people you worked with on the game.

max-louis 2020-04-28 12:59

Ah awesome thanks a lot! Haha yes we were a pretty big team, it was really good fun to cooperate like that!

flying-dog-fish 2020-04-29 18:56

This is a very unique and well made game. It's pretty easy though and you can't actually lose (I tried).

backurio 2020-04-29 19:53

@flying-dog-fish It is tweaking to be easy intentionally. But, as a lot of the comments mention it, this was not a good idea. Lesson learned, I guess.

I don't know how, but the son of our musician was able to achieve negative numbers. Don't ask me how, but so much to not being able to loose :see_no_evil:

justmars 2020-05-06 20:14

Extremely satisfying gameplay. Extremely. Visuals were stylish and clear, and the audio side was spot on too. I appreciate the inclusion of the sound and post processing settings (no, its not a shader xd); without the distortion the game was much more pleasing to play.

I eventually got to the end, it took quite long but the gameplay was addictive enough for me to continue. But I must say, that the difficulty curve was almost non existent, if there was any at all. The enemies spawned very sparsely, and there was never a real challenge. If you are going to expand on this project, that would be the main thing to improve on. Tho I have noticed, that somehow easy games do feel *really* addictive to play, especially juicy ones like this^

The humour of this game tho, was spot on! It described the current situation of YouTube quite accurately... The enemy themes were really clever, with demonetisations, copyright strikes and such. Also, the concept of defending you videos from them to earn subs, views and money fit the theme really well! The stats system was well made too, and it was visually pleasing to watch the views, ad money, subs etc. flow to and from the videos, and surprisingly with very little lag! (did you make use of the Unity's new DOTS / ECS features or were those all just basic GameObjects?). Overall, I don't think I even encountered any bugs (or at least didn't notice any) which was nice!

Overall, a superb game, from the idea to the execution. Amazing job fellows, keep it up!

backurio 2020-05-09 10:38

@justmars OMG. Thank you very much for your feedback. I'm so pleased that you liked our game and yes you are completely right that the game is on the easy side and we wanted to focus on making the game as juicy and most enjoyable to watch as possible. And yes, we also wanted to show how the life of a MyTuber (YouTuber) looks like. I think we did a good job on the research part because none of us is a YouTuber.

The game was made with the traditional Unity approach of GameObjects. If you have a PC without graphic card or an older one, it could happen that you get some lag, but I turned the amount of bubbles down quite a bit so that the game would run as smooth as possible. I was thinking to go DOTS but I was already to far into the project and due to me having no experience, I did not want to risk the completion of the game and I kept the GameObject approach. However, I will soon take a look into DOTS because more bubbles would make the game more awesome.

You are also correct with the shader, but shader sounds more fancy :sunglasses:

I will checkout your game before the deadline for sure. Have quite some games to play, but time is sparse.

duck-reaction 2020-05-11 15:01

Nice graphics, icons and fx are very nice. The screen distorsion is cool.

Add game mechanics and increase the difficulty, the game is actually too easy. Also improve the audio design to create a better look and feel.

Overall, very polish game

testlab 2020-05-11 15:05

Wow, this game is Fun! Some kind of strategic element would be great, to give the game a bit more depth. Congrats on your game!
