LD46 — Keep it alive

Isochronism by FireSlash 2020-04-24T07:00:33Z

Very impressive. Well written story, well done art, and the whole tone throughout the whole thing was pulled off pretty dang good. I get some big Danganronpa vibes, which is a big plus from me...

A couple of puzzles struck me as odd though, most notably in scene 5 and a couple locks (due to wording). Minor bug but there was a few times when the first word or two would be missing from text boxes as well. Overall though it was very enjoyable.

Isochronism by FireSlash 2020-04-24T07:01:11Z

Why did it post 3 times tho...

Oogy's Saviour by dingotime 2020-04-26T08:46:54Z

This is super great. The music and the fact it escalates when you're in combat is great, the gameplay is super fun, the art is well done. Through and through just a good job.

My only two complaints is I wish I had some sort of visual lead going between the different energy locations, and - this is really more of a half complaint - being shot from off screen seems a little cheap, but granted it fit the flow pretty nicely even on hard. Good work!

Super Smash Berries by masterkrepta 2020-04-25T02:23:51Z

The game looks good and feels nice to control. I did find a bit of a bug: when I walked into one of the blackberry plants it pushed me under the map to fall for all eternity.

Overall nice submission though!

Keep Morality Alive by adriczero 2020-04-24T05:15:58Z

Was not expecting a typing game, but that was a pleasant surprise. I do agree the minions were a little overtuned, but overall a good entry nonetheless.

Manual Breathing by legavroche 2020-04-26T08:17:16Z

This was a neat idea. It was a nice balance of having to navigate the obstacles while also remembering "oh yeah that BREATHING thing I have to do"

Brawnfire by bitdecay 2020-04-26T08:26:14Z

Finding out just how far away you could chuck things into the fire was fantastic... I thought I had to be at least kinda close but nope!

Love the audio, the retro visuals, the gameplay was fun. It's a little too easy for enemies to get in the way of the throws, but this game is still a gem.

P1 - 5NT by MiltonNH25 2020-04-27T04:55:03Z

There's a lot of good things about this game. I like the fact I could change the music on the jukebox, I like how there were two modes included that felt pretty accurate to their names and both equally fun, I like that the plants were well distinguished between the different variations. Felt very polished and like a lot of thought went into this.

The researcher mode was fun enough, but the caretaker mode had a very Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes vibe to it that made me partial to it. Anywho, stellar entry.

Dragon Eggs: Greatest Hits Edition by Shaolin Dave 2020-04-28T06:31:33Z

Very neat idea. It's a simple game, but that doesn't mean it's an easy one unfortunately. I felt it had a good mix of challenge while also being fairly understandable. Not a lot I can add on without echoing what others have already said, so all-in-all this was a good game!

Bargaining with Supreme Beings So They Don't Destroy Us All by garygreen 2020-04-23T07:17:05Z

Well written and great humor, visually fun and appealing, background music to groove to, a nice simple puzzle... just a great game.

Pocket Bomb by Fajpaj 2020-04-28T06:34:08Z

This was fantastic. It's like Warioware meets Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes, which is a wonderful combination. The only criticism I have is that I wish there was some punishment for messing up mini-games, since we can just snip all the wires without really caring what color they are. Other than that though, absolutely well done.

Save My Short Necked Friends by Criggles 2020-04-23T07:43:42Z

Very fun little game. A spit sound would have been the cherry on top, but this is a solid entry.

Volley Gosh by verbvirus 2020-04-24T05:28:08Z

This game is so adorable it's unhealthy. Took me a while to get used to hitting the ball as well, but I did enjoy how smooth it felt and the extra distractions as well.

Lifelink by IanLux 2020-04-23T07:06:09Z

Really neat game. I like the idea of having different abilities based on who you're linked to. One nitpick I have to give is not letting the lock-on change to the nearest enemy and rather let the player toggle between targetable enemies. Otherwise, good job!

Gluttony by Prackli 2020-04-24T05:55:59Z

I really like the feel of this, the platforming feels super nice. The only critique I have is that the enemies feel a little too responsive to the player making them a little tough to dodge. Other than that it's a fun game.

The last plant by AdrianKrawczyk 2020-04-24T05:40:48Z

Good work! It reminds me of a game I'd see at an arcade and almost feels like one too.

LUDUM DARE 46 by ZeppelinGames 2020-04-27T04:17:37Z

Interesting idea, but it needs a little polish. I liked the concept of your torch's life being tied to the number of steps, but like others have said it was tough trying to figure out what the difference was between the coal and the dirt blocks. I felt the puzzles were mostly fair, but with how the torch gets dimmer as it goes out it feels like you're fighting more "if it's bright enough to see the puzzle" instead of "you have this many steps left plan accordingly".

The minecart sections were a fun change of pace, I enjoyed those a lot. Overall I'd say this is a good start, and honestly I'd be curious to see what this game turns into with more time put into it.

Droplet Dodge by Alaska 2020-04-23T07:58:14Z

Appreciate the feedback all :)

Very fair critique on the movement though. I wanted to try for a sort of floaty feel, but ended up with something that's a bit... slippery, but indeed tough to control.

Droplet Dodge by Alaska 2020-04-24T05:10:52Z

Yeah... I can definitely agree with you both.

One of the things on my todo list was to make the gravity affect the falling movement a bit more so it'd be a more Mario-esque jump, but by the time I got to that point where I could make some quality tweaks I was already out of time. Same but not really with the slipperiness of the movement; I had it written down to turn up the deceleration in the x-direction, but in that case i just forgot to do so.

I think I'll do a post-jam rework once the results come out with the feedback you've all left. There's other stuff I'd like to personally tackle like making the Phantom a little more than just a drone with some extra attacks, implementing a way to possibly fight the Phantom and having a win/scoring mechanism, fixing some of the sprite blurriness, making the level bigger (and better), etc.

Droplet Dodge by Alaska 2020-04-26T08:06:32Z

Considering the movement has been the chief issue I think it's probably time I treated it like a bug and fixed it... not really sure how many changes I can make before I start breaking into the "new feature" territory though

@prackli I added some light gravity scaling, only at the falling part of the jump though.

@fireslash @legavroche @EveryoneBasically I went ahead and tweaked the movement to be more precise. The little droplet is still quick, but he's not walking on butter anymore.

If I'd have had more time I'd have loved to get at least a little timer put in or some form of scoring, but alas... Some sort of progression is a great idea though. Like "you've survived long enough here, moving to next area" or "build up a meter and attack!" kind of thing. Appreciate the good ideas.

@dingotime Glad it was fun for at least a few minutes! I tweaked the movement a little so it's still a little fast but you have better control over it if you wanted to try again.

@god-colo ありがてぇ!:smile:

Droplet Dodge by Alaska 2020-04-27T03:44:25Z

Thanks you two.

I chose 'Z' because I've had Cave Story on my mind lately and it felt better to have both hands doing something.

Droplet Dodge by Alaska 2020-04-28T06:10:28Z

Thanks for the feedback yall.

@shaolin-dave I thought about making the spikes their own color, but in the end it just looked too tacky for me; this is where I shot myself in the foot with being too simple with the graphics (granted the speckled look doesn't look much better, but that's where I settled). I do have the health bar ticking down slowly to try and keep the player moving, but ultimately I do also need to give a little extra motivation from more attacks (ones that can hit through walls) or falling hazards, etc. Originally I did have it fullscreen, but due to bad import options on the textures everything looked blurry; but when I corrected those options the stretch on the viewport heavily distorted everything. I might play around more with it, but ultimately I'd need to make time to redo the scaling on the nodes and rebuild the level.

@garygreen There was not. I want to add one in, but I think that falls under a new feature rather than a bugfix.

Droplet Dodge by Alaska 2020-04-28T06:12:19Z

@miltonnh25 Very much agreed, and thanks!

Droplet Dodge by Alaska 2020-05-05T07:17:24Z

@nspevacek Thanks for the feedback! I'll see what I can do.

Lightlife by Merpui 2020-04-28T06:48:24Z

Very neat and very fun. I found a bug with the glass where I got myself stuck on it and the ceiling at one point, but that didn't make it any less enjoyable. (Kinda felt like a 'reap what you sow' moment but still)

Save the torch! by eduardogacn 2020-04-23T06:41:47Z

I like this game, it's a very interesting idea too. Only real critique I have is maybe implementing some sort of invulnerability period after taking damage so you don't get scenarios of dying quicker than you can react, but other than that good game overall.

Save the torch! by eduardogacn 2020-04-26T04:56:16Z

You did a good job with the update. Keep it up!

New Word Order by Bart Wach 2020-04-27T03:54:17Z

Interesting idea. I'm going to echo some of the previous comments about being able to see what word I'm currently typing, and possibly adding in some way to keep words from overlapping and becoming very difficult to discern. Overall though, good job!

Genki by GOD COLO 2020-04-25T02:46:39Z

It's a simple game but it's simply fun. Loved having enough health to just ram my way through a crowd until about the 200s mark.

Paradigm by nspevacek 2020-05-05T07:26:50Z

This is an interesting idea. I liked the visuals and the controls felt very quick and responsive. Echoing what others have said about it being hard to tell if the asteroid will hit the shield and the slowness though. Overall it was a good game.

Cutie Chowdown by Aaiko 2020-04-23T07:49:52Z

Very cute game. I loved how the expression changed with each turn without eating something, that was a nice touch.
