Really cool! The audio is nice and the gameplay feels good, but the movement is somewhat clunky!

adriankrawczyk 2020-04-21 10:37

It's clunky, because i had to turn this game from top-down to platformer in like 8h

kevin-meissner 2020-04-21 10:49

Liked it just missed a bit of long term motivation.

timetravelhamster 2020-04-21 10:51

Nice little shooter. I like the art, but i miss more feedback when i kill or shoot. Thank you. Good Job.

adriankrawczyk 2020-04-21 11:05

We wanted to do a nice animation, but we hadn't enough time.

2020-04-21 11:55

nice :))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) Adrian Krawczyk is the best game creator in the world. I never saw such fantastic game. Be proud of yourself mate.

ballipilla 2020-04-22 09:15

Loved the crazy robot with the bandana!

baptiste-guerin 2020-04-22 09:17

Not the best idea and the best game but it's fun I played it during a surprising amount of time :)

adriankrawczyk 2020-04-22 09:19

this one is called "speedy"!

adriankrawczyk 2020-04-22 09:21

its my first jam, so im impressed that somebody even like this!

goldenevolution 2020-04-22 09:25

I got really confused about the gravity, is it supposed to be a topdown shooter or a sidescroller? Some of the enemies seemed to be moonwalking and shooting backwards. And I believe I wasn't able to lose the game. Also when the firerate gets too high, the sound completely disappears from the shooting. If you fix these issues and add some particle effects to shooting and enemies dying, and maybe some screenshake, then you would have a solid start to a fun game. Keep on practicing game development, and play around with a thing called "game feel".

rasheed 2020-04-22 09:27

woow it,s really enjoyable game to play I loved it a lot especially when you get under high pressure with a lot of robots to kill its really great game keep it and good luck!!

anahandley 2020-04-22 09:27

well done!

adriankrawczyk 2020-04-22 09:28

@goldenevolution i know this all, i wanted to fix all of this, but i didnt have enough time it was made as a top down, but i had to change it to "platformer-like" this moonwalking is the worst and i hate it this is my first jam so im happy with it, but in the next game jam, i will prepare more! thanks for this comment, next time i will be more experienced!

fabula-rasa 2020-04-22 09:37

Not bad at all! Simple yet engaging. Graphics are pleasant to look at and informative. Suffers for lack of variety though - but that's logical with time constraints. Also, and interesting fact - power-up boxes block enemy bullets (and your own as well) - great shield if they happen to spawn in a right place.

Incidentally, we also made a game about defending a plant (a tree) for this jam :)

adriankrawczyk 2020-04-22 09:42

@fabula-rasa actually, this power-up shields are a bug, and i didnt even noticed it lmao

fabula-rasa 2020-04-22 09:43

@adriankrawczyk I figured it was not intended. But still considered it a great find, so I figured I will share my discovery!

virtuaworlds 2020-04-22 09:47

Nice work for your first jam! nice little game, a bit hard to control but good anyways. I like the robots.

adriankrawczyk 2020-04-22 09:48

@virtuaworlds i will try harder in the next! but this one was very difficult too

koljam 2020-04-22 09:55

Same as others pointed out: I really liked it for the first few minutes but the fun began to fade. Maybe top down would've been a better choice. But I liked the style and the gameplay itself!

adriankrawczyk 2020-04-22 09:57

i wanted to do a top down, but the sprites were made for platformer :/

minusc 2020-04-22 10:14

Haha, that was quite fun. I don't understand everything (why do I fly ? Do plant have a number of lifes ? Because I lose, and the game restart, but I still have my score and my timer.) But overall, it was fun, and the graphics are quite nice. Good job !

adriankrawczyk 2020-04-22 10:25

@minusc it was intended, this is a checkpoints system, after every wave you save your progress

red-ash 2020-04-22 10:49

Nice game. Art is cool. Gameplay is fun but a bit too repetitive for me. Couldn't figure out what are hang up to the wall though.

lurkerrip 2020-04-22 14:44

Art was really really well done! Nice first Jam! Game play got a bit too repetitive. Sound effects would have a big plus. I couldn't lose? Overall, very nice job!

patrickrmc 2020-04-22 14:50

Fun little concept. I like the little upgrade things you could pick up to boost your stats.

- Feedback: The game got really repetitive quickly, suddenly it was just standing on the plant and shooting back and forth. The gravity was really weird.

But not bad!

adriankrawczyk 2020-04-22 15:55

@patrickrmc i had to turn it from top down to platformer, this was the problem i will know what i have to avoid in the next jam!

denis123 2020-04-22 16:43

I appreciate the pixel art :) Your game was a little confusing to me but interesting.

2020-04-22 21:57

This was pretty fun, the dash and homing bullet mechanics work really well, and it is really fun when you stack up power-ups and begin to shoot extremely fast. The music is also on point. I didn't understand well when you get to lose, since enemies getting to the plant would only cause you to teleport you back to the plant and cleanup the level. I think it would be great if you got to keep the power ups until you lost or something. But overall really amazing game!

adriankrawczyk 2020-04-22 22:45

the powerups are for some time, it would be too easy if they would be forever :D

losing works on a checkpoint system, after every wave you save your progress thanks for your feedback!! im happy that you enjoyed my little buggy game

no-grapes-games 2020-04-23 04:10

Cool shooter. It works well but the gravity confused me a little bit. Not sure if the the hero is jumping or sliding on the wall. Anyway, it was nice, simple and it worked! I really appreciate the boosts that were put into the game to change things up a bit. Nice job!

daniel-michaeloudis 2020-04-23 10:27

Nice game. Gravity was a bit weird but it was fun to play over all

carlofalltrades 2020-04-23 11:50

Controls a bit clunky. I love the music. Overall it's okay. Quite funny!

louiejams 2020-04-23 11:56

Nice idea, art was nice and simple but the gameplay was a little too limited. There was a red bad that would seem to follow me round until it caught up to me when i respawned.

teleport and then red bar.png

A couple times the game "restarted" i was stuck in the floor! stuck in floor.png

I think the speed/bullet boost was a good idea but i did not immediately recognise what it was suposed to represent. After collecting a few, my guy was able to fly across the ceiling and shoot from up there, but obviously not also see the plant. Good try for solo project!

hare-software 2020-04-23 12:09

I think that you did some really smart tricks to make the game more interesting. It is normally not required to move to protect the plant, but since you added the power ups, which are very helpul, you force the player to move as well and not just camp. I did feel like I was not really able to lose, since the points and time never really stopped going up. Good sprites too, especially fo the differnt unit types. Well done and hope to see more of your work next time!

adriankrawczyk 2020-04-23 13:50

@hare-software its checkpoint system, thats why you only lost some of your points

adriankrawczyk 2020-04-23 13:50

@louiejams i know it has many bugs, i just didnt have enough time to test and fix them

louiejams 2020-04-23 14:02

@adriankrawczyk Please do not take my feedback as a negative! Of course, I understand the time constraints, i struggled with it myself, i think everyone did to some degree. I wanted to show you that i'd taken the time to test out your game and am only offering advice to help improve it. :)

shugor 2020-04-23 14:03

Fun game, as others have said I would have appreciated a little bit of feedback when hitting enemies etc but it works quite well. I appreciate the variety of power ups. good job!

adriankrawczyk 2020-04-23 14:23

@louiejams i didnt take it as negative feedback! to be honest, i didnt get any negative feedback yet i know that i just have to work harder next time, and be prepared for fixing bugs before the deadline. im glad that you all gave me feedback, now im more experienced!

vivoubos 2020-04-23 14:27

Funny game, but don't have a second chance haha. The sound is great! good job

terrykk 2020-04-23 16:56

Nice sounds, music and animations, enjoyable gameplay. I would add some more graphics in the background.

joemid 2020-04-23 16:58

Good job! I think you should go back to top down if you put more work into this. Or, maybe, there is a way to connect the two genres?! Def had some bugs- or what I thought were bugs- try to shoot right- bullets go left. But this game is exactly what LD is all about. Testing new ideas, making something, and putting it out there. Keep up the good work and thanks for the game!

alaska 2020-04-24 05:40

Good work! It reminds me of a game I'd see at an arcade and almost feels like one too.

2020-04-24 19:33

Cool game, reminded me of arcade style twin stick shooter games. Having speed and weapon based power ups are must haves for this type of game and I was very glad to see they were included to spice things up. I thought it was interesting to try and make it a platformer but I think it might have worked better top down. Mainly because after a while I realised once I had a good enough power up I could pretty much just camp by the plant and move the mouse either left or right. Art and music were cool too.

Edit: Forgot to add, I really liked the dash mechanic too!

adriankrawczyk 2020-04-25 08:32

@payne325 Yeah, i changed it to platformer in the last day, so i know its would be better as a topdown!! Thank you for your feedback!

god-colo 2020-04-25 12:06

Ahh the pixel art! I loved the music! I really liked the dash system! The power-ups were awesome! Greato Jobu!

nosfer 2020-04-25 12:11

Nice graphics. I think this could be better as topdown as everyone already stated.

duke 2020-04-25 14:57

Ohhh ok :D really had to check t he perspective of the game since jumping behaved really strange. I thought maybe I was in some kind if isometric map that was skewed downward... But I guess the jumping mechanics just seem to be bugged a little (or was is so by design?)

The game play loop itself is pretty simple, but effective. If you make an action packed shooter, then shooting and defeating enemies should always feel rewarding. Just making them disappear without a trace (or soundeffect) just seems a little off. I never can get much satisfaction out if it like that.

Also, the map was a bit uninspired and could use some more variation to shake things up. The powerup system was a good idea but seemed a little unbalanced. A couple of the "faster shooting" items and I could fill the whole map with a barrage of my bullets in no time.

All in all, a little rough around the edges but still a fun few minutes. With a little more work towards presentation and player feedback, this could be improved a lot!

curleyrach 2020-04-25 18:19

Its a pretty smooth game, I really like the art and sounds. The different enemy types and power ups were good but after a while the game itself became a bit repetitive. Really nice job though overall!

danthegreat 2020-04-27 13:25

I really liked the graphics though I had a bit of trouble aiming. Excited to see what you come up with in the next jam!

nnnikki 2020-04-27 13:57

The game generally feels unfinished, in my opinion. I could levitate by holding W? Anyway, more importantly, I feel like the main game loop is too monotonous. All you have to do is shoot the enemies. If you had implemented another thing you'd have to do at the same time (a similar game called The Last Tree has you watering the plant), it could really spice things up. Suddenly, you're asking yourself, do I kill the enemies, or do I water the plant? Furthermore, this could be expanded to having the player move around the level to collect something.

morriekken 2020-04-27 19:49

I like art and music and it's quite a bit of a game like for first jam. People are saying controls feel strange? Well maybe you are a botanist in 0G, right? What about all those skeletal troopers shooting purple tennis balls? Clearly the botanist is in type of crazy scientist. Keep it up and I hope we meet on next ldjam :)

jin9310 2020-04-28 09:29

One question is if there is a fail state? The concept feels to have good foundation and I had really a need to keep that plant alive, I was smashing it but at one point I felt I lost, as the enemy reached the plant, but I didn“t. It kept going on. And that would be my suggestion, to implement some final state as it would keep the game, really a game :) Overall this is a solid entry. Good job!

abk507 2020-05-02 14:42

The game kinda have no soul... its just holt the mouse buttons and point to the nearest enemy. the sprites are cool, but the gravity is clunky. :P

matootsy 2020-05-11 05:01

Funny pixel art. The game is very basic and a bit boring, but it match the theme and the control is working well. A good first entry ;)
