LD46 — Keep it alive

MACHINA by Harry Alissavakis 2020-05-01T14:59:03Z

I really like this game. Concept is great, bit of humour and puzzle like challenges and impressive graphics and music for such short time.

Couple comments regarding gameplay: - I'm pretty sure it was said by mighty AI bot but I wasn't sure what is my purpose. Some indication on how many waves of enemies left would be nice - It felt bit static, I wasn't forced too often to move around - mainly camped and shoot at robots and built walls - Very few pickups, I missed 1 in first level and nothing else came later

Tale of a Little Guardian by Morg 2020-04-25T11:36:28Z

It's really beautiful game. I like graphics a lot and sound with music are very atmospheric. Considering timeframe it's a lot of game, which is impressive.

I had few challenges when I played: - Texts disappear too quickly, I had to read everything twice - Jumping and landing seems to be pixel perfect which leads to frustration - Save game thingy supposed to restore tree life, but it didn't do anything except of saving - Monsters are too easy to jump over, you could even take a ride on fly - not sure if this was intentional - Hints were too small, even when I switched to full hd - When I was reading scraps of the story on "road signs", tree life was running out which forced me to omit history whatsoever

Night Keeper by SleepyStudios 2020-04-27T20:11:26Z

Darkness was too much for me ;) I like the idea but I struggled with enemies as they came from zero to such numbers that I couldn't cope with them... but hey maybe I'm just not fit to fight the darkness?

Plenty of game for such short time.

Canyon Rush by Draklaw 2020-04-22T09:47:27Z

I like the idea but I must admit the game is very hard. I played on mouse and keyboard on Normal but still couldn't survive longer than a minute. It took me couple rounds to remember to reload guns :) but that's me when overwhelmed.

Really nice graphics and very dynamic peace of the game.

Isle of Light by Lexi89 2020-04-21T11:10:59Z

I love the idea of this game, graphics and music, but I found it very frustrating (but perhaps that was a point?).

I figured out bucket at first, then found a radio and a tape (nice add!), then a message in the bottle and a crab which I was able to kick (!). I searched whole beach and found nothing else to interact with, but I managed to stuck between the bottom palm tree and a rock more than once. Also the palm on the left catapulted me through the air few times and I wasn't able to move back to the ground level for a while.

I played the game more than 10 times and found nothing more to interact with. Maybe better indication where to look for something would be nice. Or a sound that something came ashore?

Plants'N'Ants by Mads 2020-04-21T10:30:07Z

Hey,

I like your game! Putting these plants on the planet makes it actually challenging to play - such a simple, yet great solution. The music is soothing and complements well the theme. I enjoyed it and after one play I feel, I could have done better and want to play some more - so here is the re-playability value for you.

I would love to see the ants a bit more - I had a hard time to spot them at first. Also, the small flowers - the ones which you plant are hard to recognize. Those are the only things I can point out, otherwise aa fun, slow, satisfying game to play.

Best regards, Anna from 4boa team

STASIS by AMastryukov 2020-05-01T15:44:04Z

Nice game but it took me laptop down to it's knees :) I needed to go to 800x600. I got to the point where I placed the cube under air vent and tried to jump on the cube. Then the cube begins to behave and I really mean BEHAVE. First it got stuck to the valve, then it was jumping from under me when I tried to jump on it. Well, I thought this cube clearly doesn't like to be jumped on I left it alone and I doze off inhaling gas while looking at my new and last companion cube.

Broadcast Bandits by zoarfy 2020-04-27T20:24:37Z

I had a rough start with the game, couldn't figure out what is happening at first but once I got that I really enjoyed playing it. Graphics style is very nice and music very pleasant. Especially I liked the introduction to the game. Very nice piece of game, indeed.

Ethereal Tale by Optimans 2020-04-23T18:39:49Z

I really like it. I used to play guitar hero with my Fender and I think this game accommodates the similar concept with more fun (I didn't enjoy guitar hero that much). Even thou the game is hard, I felt very relaxed.

Some challenges I had: - Feedback if I hit a note on right time wasn't very clear for me, I would expect the note to play louder if I get it right - I struggled to hit arrows right on time a lot - No quit button/keypress from the game

My Friend Phil by Conroy 2020-04-23T18:28:54Z

I like the graphics, humor and the idea (reminds me a bit of Meatboy)! But I wasn't able to go far. I was trapped more than once between second pool and the tunnel (I wasn't able to get out of it). Screenshot (13).png

And frog-jump was beyond me. Way to difficult for me.

Lamps by qkjosh 2020-05-01T15:16:18Z

I like the idea of playing dog a lot and this is what brought me to this game. Although it too creepy for my taste. I played on keyboard so controls were bit clumsy, but I expect this is quite normal. It wasn't clear for me at the beginning where I need to go and what to do, some hint on direction would be helpful. I got couple levels down and my light run out, which was sad.

BrewMancy by Louis Hilaire 2020-04-25T11:57:54Z

I enjoyed playing this game more than I expected that I will. I was worried if I will get motion sickness, but in fact the controls were surprisingly smooth and nice. The graphic, however basic it is, adds to the mood and surrealism of this game. The music does the same. I had a lot of fun!

The only thing I would think about is to add some sound effects, especially when you pick up the object, to give a player better feedback.

PollUFO by OddSocks 2020-04-27T19:37:48Z

I love the concept, graphics and sound effects are beautiful. It was really easy to understand how to play and I learned pretty quit that hitting trees is big no-no. I really enjoyed playing it!

Ark Survive by Pusheeneiro 2020-04-25T12:24:31Z

I like the idea of being Noe and managing animals on the ship. The graphics are pleasant and the music is enjoyable.

But while playing I encountered few issues: - the story seems to be 0-1 situation, where there is only one perfect solution. I felt I had no impact on the story, I just needed to find the right answers. - I didn't like that one decision (like removing my shirt) can make me suddenly dead. It was very anticlimactic. I would rather have some health bar and every sniffles from cold, accidents would deplete my life eventually. That way I would be able to try to shield my health in some cases. - the graphic is nice but I find it strange that when the text talks about kangaroo I see a giraffe. - usually I had a choice between two sides, but sometimes I didn't, but it wasn't clear when. So I had to move my mouse from one paper to the other and see if then it will get a tint to make sure I can click it.

I hope you will develop this game some more and will add to the story, because there is a nice potential. Good luck!

FIREGUARD by Puszkee 2020-04-21T21:29:12Z

I like the game and I like the idea throwing sticks at enemies to get rid of them. Also graphics is really simple but easy to read - me like it :) I couldn't figure out how to put sticks in the fire, but I kept shooting at enemies, so it went well. There was bit strange behaviour with menu buttons like their active zone was bit off compared to mouse location.

Frozen Tundra by Kaan Alpar 2020-04-22T12:32:05Z

I like the simplicity of mechanics but I was missing some clear connection with fire and the thermometer on the right side. I kept feeding fire but it run out anyway. I think there could be more dangers/enemies - I survived for 2 days and didn't meet anyone. Sound FX are really nice atmospheric but it would be great with some ambient music.

He Needs Healing by WanS24 2020-04-23T18:20:15Z

OMG this is really hard game. Mind you have to press only 3 keys but I felt constantly overwhelmed. One think I can say for sure it kept me totally engaged with what is happening on the screen. The good think it is very easy to understand, but I would welcome some "breaks" in healing/fighting to catch some breath.

Man Need Fire by ABRDs 2020-04-21T21:44:40Z

This is the best game on LD46 I played so far. Seriously, I was playing it and couldn't stop while Anna was watching over my shoulder. I got stuck on the same level as @miltage - I figured out solution but was already out of fire. Still I really enjoyed playing it!

I like how you teach how to use different game mechanics but still leave room for experimenting and trying to find solution. And music with effects, oh it transformed me back to 800XL and C64 times :D

Save the Plant by burg113 2020-04-23T18:53:52Z

One I figured out that little suns and little patches of water are for the plant I'm carrying it all went well and I managed to carry plant to the black spot.... exit I wanted to say :) But before that I was looking for this flower and couldn't find, same as @guy-withivy

Overall I think it is really interesting idea, with few comments regarding game play:

- It would be nice with some good indication when over Sun and Water patch - I thought at first that I cannot pick them up for some reason - There was some funny thing with UI scaling - Text at the beginning was pretty hard to read, it could use some blurred/faded background

A tale of Rebirthism by Pomo 2020-04-23T18:10:37Z

OH MY DEAR PRECIOUS, I so love this game right now! I'm totally sucking at it but I love it either way - that doesn't happen often. My mind is hurting from combining both of my hands.

It would love to play it on a gamepad with colors of the eyes assigning to the colors of A-X-B-Y on xBox controller. But then, it might game been to easy that way. And I had some problems spotting blue meteorites - no problems with green and red, thou. Maybe some glow about it would help?

Anyway, this is the most fun game I have tried so far on LD!

The last plant by AdrianKrawczyk 2020-04-27T19:49:58Z

I like art and music and it's quite a bit of a game like for first jam. People are saying controls feel strange? Well maybe you are a botanist in 0G, right? What about all those skeletal troopers shooting purple tennis balls? Clearly the botanist is in type of crazy scientist. Keep it up and I hope we meet on next ldjam :)

Tumbleweed by Brenan 2020-04-23T19:24:58Z

I really enjoyed playing this game and I wouldn't mind to have this game in my library to relax after long day of work.

Music is great and tranquil, visuals are amazing. I think fonts and logo are just beautiful. I love those bits of poems along the journey. Very innovative game play I think it's brilliant that you actually don't control tumbleweed but you control wind with a lot of inertia and interaction with environment.

All in all it is very good production with few comments: - I couldn't manage to read full text at the beginning, and when I was restarting game I didn't want to wait for it to disappear anymore. Some keypress to skip further would be great I think. - You guys killed my lenovo yoga laptop :) I had to go down to 800x600 to have decent fps

Amanita by Bastinus Rex 2020-05-01T14:31:59Z

Yes, this a game with a twist :) Even thou I expected the twist, still I enjoyed it. I could've been little bit more variation on tasks but considering it was made in one weekend it's a lot a game.

Battery Life by Morriekken 2020-04-21T21:19:04Z

Thanks to everyone for playing and kind feedback. You make make my todo list very happy :) @abrds - indeed, depth or purpose is something I need to work on @optimans - Agree, working on purpose and we'll add music to it :) @slimbun - good point, the game is lacking difficulty selection and map is not the best I agree @demkimos - Well, UI scaling issues are reason of my constant frustration and misery, but I will fix it :) @burg113 - Spinning is an accidental feature, I use rigidbody force to move robot forward and once you hit something it can go into spin. I left it on purpose to mimic that robot is breaking down... it's not the best maintained robot after all ;)

Battery Life by Morriekken 2020-05-03T15:28:21Z

Thank you for your comments, it is all very valuable and means a lot to me. All you have great ideas - thank you!

@god-colo - yes it is sprite mask :) don't know anything about shaders and tried to make it simple.

@teamjs - re- steering, it's a bug I left intentionally. I imagined it's broken robot, so when poor little guy hits the wall cannot work well anymore. Just hit the wall again straight and it will all be allright :)

@igor-kingamer - what resolution do you use? Did you play html5 or win version?

Battery Life by Morriekken 2020-05-11T17:56:16Z

@igor-kingamer - thanks a lot, your feedback is very valuable for me. I'm working on implementing some post LD ideas. There is a story being born as well but we will see where it is going to go. Browser version has some simplifications (UI Scaling and movable map) to avoid different screen ratios nightmare.

Social Distancing For LadyBugs by mehrdadsh 2020-04-23T18:55:20Z

I was able to unload my frustrations from people who are not respecting social distancing on these bugs, thank you.

I played several times to beat my score and it was a satisfying experience (best 7620 on a touchpad :sunglasses: ). I would love to have something to keep my attention for longer, thou.

Lol, it's insane game and I loved it. The music is just amazing, graphics and animations match everything perfectly. I really liked the humour and enjoyed playing it. It very polished and it shows seasoned GameDev. Really, really good job.

Last Light by LykaWolfie 2020-04-21T10:51:53Z

I like it! Colors and the game and lighting is very attractive! The sneaking in the dark is fun, however I found battery depleting while light is off contra-intuitive, but I've learned fast. Like Lexi89 I also found the part with monsters coming from both sides very hard - is there more or is this all for now? I like the idea of the texts as a tutorials, but it were also kind of spoilers for me. All and all, I believe this is an amazing first attempt! Hats off!

Rusty by Primum Ludum 2020-05-01T16:10:08Z

This is really polished and nice game. I really enjoyed playing it and I like a lot the mechanics view changing whether robot is moving or not. I like it a lot!

Type it alive by Adry 2020-04-22T12:52:23Z

Interesting and novel idea and I like peace of the game. It took me 2 rounds to figure out that I need to type letters and that it makes me survive longer but I couldn't find clear connection why typing makes it better for me. I would also try to use short words instead of random letters. I almost didn't at the game and focused entirely on letter strings.

Keep It Alive! by TeamJS 2020-05-03T15:47:53Z

I think it's really great idea for this theme. You need to keep alive both your romance and phone battery - challenges were many people can relate these days :)

I really liked map but some more prominent signs where is the charging station (something blinking?) would be nice. At first I couldn't figure out how to charge battery. I like that charging eats your time.

Really nice game!
