Wow, your game had such a great mood ! Congrats ! I just wish you had some sort of randomisation for the dog's bark sounds.

cottontshirtz 2020-04-21 01:20

It is what is says on the tin, there are mostly lamps. But seriously, I found the atmosphere to be considerably spooky and I liked those moments when you walk into a new room, bark, and only get a glimpse of the space, they added considerable suspense to the whole thing.

Please tell me that the dog is ok though, seems pretty purgatorial...

tso 2020-04-21 02:16

I'll never look at a lamp the same way again. Good boi's gone to the good place now.

pee-thief 2020-04-21 02:18

i like knocking over the lamps

synoxgames 2020-04-21 02:20

The graphics in this game are amazing, I love the whole idea of having a super charged bark that lights up lamps haha. Any game that lets you be a dog is just godly.

kinshuk-thebest 2020-04-21 02:30

Adorable graphics. I love it!

cheesepencil 2020-04-21 02:38

Is there a win condition? After exploring the basement a bit, I was unable to climb back up the stairs (it would just teleport me back into the basement)

phpgator 2020-04-21 02:39

Loved it! You had amazing graphics! My biggest complaint is that I"m not sure exactly what I am supposed to be doing. Perhaps it's a maze like game?

zebraatomica 2020-04-21 03:02

The atmosphere of the game is perfect, but honestly, i couldn't play it properly... Too spooky >-<

unicorn spin.gif

x-c 2020-04-21 03:08

Great atmosphere, glad i find it)

frozedon 2020-04-21 03:11

Great atmosphere. Kinda expected some sort of payoff when I got to the end

cbarkinnies 2020-04-21 03:12

Played the game, loved it but got stuck and a little confused haha

reid-willis 2020-04-21 03:13

The "ghost guy" was super spooky! What's up with that neck... Graphics were amazing! Was that the HDRP?

elio 2020-04-21 03:17

I could not see the Ghost guy :c, But the graphics and the models were amazing :D

gno-evenimente 2020-04-21 03:18

This game looks like a AAA game. You must be a pro. Very cool and interesting idea, but I was a little loston how to progress.

dummydojo 2020-04-21 03:21

Very mysterious and intriguing aesthetics! Love the graphics and overall vibe of the game. The only thing I would say is that would probably benefit the player to have a little bit of guidance or interactivity to know if we're going in the right direction!

winterbeak 2020-04-21 03:22

- Lamp physics are the best - I'm not good with spooky stuff :( the knocking over of lamps is the only thing keeping me comfort - At some point, I stopped being able to bark. I'm not sure if that's intentional, but that's also super spooky if it was - At some point, I couldn't get past a corridor because of a lamp. It's really jives your jimmies when your comfort habit works against you - Completion time: NA. Got lost in the dark corridors, barkless, and to make things worse, I'd already had all the lamps already knocked over :( Atmosphere was great, even if horror isn't my thing

pips 2020-04-21 03:36

It's an incredible game, AAA graphis in 72 hours? that is CRAZY.

helmisetsuna 2020-04-21 03:37

The game environment, lights, and physics are so fantastic. The control also so great!

The only less is I got lost easily. Haha.

Anyway good job

caveman54 2020-04-21 04:23

Amazing atmosphere I enjoyed it quite a bit.

terristen 2020-04-21 04:24

Beautiful game. The atmosphere was great and the use of post-processing effects as part of the mechanics of the game was a nice touch.

blackshadow1games 2020-04-21 04:48

Really great game because of the amazing atmosphere and graphics. Knocking the lamps down was also very fun for some reason. My only criticism is that it was hard to get through the doors sometimes. Besides that, amazing game with great visuals.

no-grapes-games 2020-04-21 04:49

Great atmosphere, great graphics. A little more guidance when the player is stuck would be a good idea. It isn't obvious what is going on, and feels a lot like frustrated wandering at first. Overall nice job.

claybro2021 2020-04-21 05:41

Very nice! I got stuck in the basement somehow and wasn't able to figure out how to get back upstairs lol. But overall it looked nice and was fun to run around and bark!

fabien-parisot 2020-04-21 06:08

I love the emotion that emerges from your poetic game

bonyok77 2020-04-21 06:18

Wow, The Graphics Are so cool! and it's also so polished for a ludum dare game.

mirsakka 2020-04-21 10:34

Spooky atmosphere but the dog gave me courage. I really related to the dog because I wasn't sure what I should do. Beautiful and mysterious!

harry-alissavakis 2020-04-21 11:16

Amazing art and really great atmosphere! Wonderful and mysterious :D Great job!!

turritom 2020-04-21 11:25

i love the idea and the atmosphere. the graphics are really beautiful. i'm now somewhere in the middle of nowhere with the dog, but i bark back into the light.

effarek 2020-04-21 14:30

I loved the atmosphere between the dark basement and the cute dog !

torn 2020-04-21 14:43

The visuals look really nice, but I didn't quite get what I was supposed to be doing. At one point, my light stopped working and that was sadly the end of my journey as I was stuck in darkness.

anoushcat 2020-04-21 14:49

I just came for the doggo and wasn't expecting this kind of spooky game! Anyway the general mood is really cool, and I was feeling bad for the doggo when it seems I couldn't bark anymore :< The game is really polished, good job!

rebecca-harrison 2020-04-21 14:59

@cheesepencil @phpgator @cbarkinnies @gno-evenimente @winterbeak @no-grapes-games @torn @anoushcat

Hey guys :) I'm so glad you enjoyed the game! From your comments it sounds like you could use a hint though.

-Watch how long the lights stay on for. They'll alert you if you've gone the wrong way. -If you run out of light, visit your ghost friend. -There are three levels of basement, and then one level below that...

Thank you so much for playing, and I hope you'll give it another shot to see the ending ^_^

greendinogames 2020-04-21 15:05

Really impressive entry! The game looks really good and the gameplay is unique.

thebreakfast 2020-04-21 15:39

What a beautiful game, wow! The amount of content you produced in just a weekend is awesome! This game is sure to be in the top 5 best graphics and mood, probably number 1! While I was exploring one of the lower levels my light started to go out, and the shadows started creeping towards the dog. Definitely creepy, and there's a lot of room for player interpretation too!

littlemiky 2020-04-21 15:52

Wow, the game's atmosphere is very beautiful and poétic, it's impressive, well done !

mrowka 2020-04-21 16:17

Awesome graphics, great atmosphere, what more can I say. Great job!

splitpainter 2020-04-21 16:48

Beautiful and nice atmosphere. If there is a dog, I'm sold :) The thing is, I got stuck in the basement, I think. But good game overall. Caught the attention of my wife as well (which is not a gamer).

devastus 2020-04-21 17:57

Very cool, the atmosphere is simply great! I understood the gist of the game pretty quickly too so I didn't personally feel it was "too mysterious", though I think some manner of minor extra guidance could probably still help, mostly in the situation where your light fades out.

In any case, very stellar job, I liked this a lot!

rebecca-harrison 2020-04-21 18:10

@splitpainter I'm so glad you liked it, and that your wife did too! If you ever feel like you're on the wrong path, watch how long the lights are on for. If your light goes out, visit the ghost. :)

hexa3 2020-04-21 18:48

I just talked to the ghosts!

rebecca-harrison 2020-04-21 18:48

@devastus thank you! It's very interesting. Either people figure out to watch the lights or they don't. We considered putting in helper text but the people who figured it out themselves had a very meaningful experience, so we decided to leave it. Better to have some people Love it than to have everyone Like it :P

casual-dutchman 2020-04-21 20:51

There is a dog in it, so it already gets a +1! I am not one for spooky games, but the dog gave me comfort. At some point I could not bark anymore and I got stuck in the room. Not sure what happened there and stopped.

somethang123 2020-04-21 20:51

I like the mystery aspect and it had a really cool atmosphere, hopefully you continue to work on it because I would love to see a full version

hruy-gashaw 2020-04-21 20:53

Great game, the atmosphere and artstyle are terrific!

synystercola 2020-04-21 20:53

This is a really neat game! I love the mysterious atmosphere. Not to mention - dogs! The mechanics are solid and I was sucked into the game right off the bat. Good job guys! :D

szkocka 2020-04-21 20:54

It takes a lot of skill to make a game feel like a true adventure without using any dialogue

scharma 2020-04-21 20:55

The dog is so cute! But my heart hurt everytime he whines :(

Haha, seriously, incredibly moody game, well done, was not expecting this kinda of suspense, great graphics and mistery. Well done!

I could use some more hand holding though, as a stayed confused wandering around for quite some time. Congrats on your work.

cristi-aby 2020-04-21 20:56

Very good graphics! Interesting sound! Good job.

relictooth 2020-04-21 20:59

Really interesting game, I had a good time playing it. The atmosphere was so good, very nice work.

despdair 2020-04-21 21:00

I felt like dog is hard to control, and it turns around unrealistically. If you want to work on this you may want to reconsider turn animation I think.

4binary1 2020-04-21 21:02

woof/10 - Loved it!

radow 2020-04-21 21:02

:dog:

Wow. Building a basement one can get lost in over a weekend is no small feat! And the graphics are obviously incredibly well done, especially for such a small time frame! Making the lamps rigid bodies made the level feel more interactible and real, but also got me almsot stuck a couple of times, wich can be harsh if you have run out of braking-juice, but in the end I found the light :D

png 2020-04-21 21:03

a great surreal experience with amazing graphics. and the dog is so cute :D

giordas 2020-04-21 21:11

I was not expecting at all this level of profesionalism just by working three days on a game. Loved the spooky mood when I got closer and closer to the end and the dog was extremly cute btw.

sophiemae0 2020-04-21 21:17

Love the graphics but I a pretty sure I got caught in the basement

aspect11 2020-04-21 21:31

wow it really felt beautiful ! the graphics also are great! great Job! i felt lost a little bit needed a tutorial at first to help player ^-^

rebecca-harrison 2020-04-21 21:46

@radow Thank you! I created materials in Unity that would be projected onto them instead of being UV mapped, so I could use pieces more modularly. It saved a ton of time, and then some procgen placement of objects took it the rest of the way. So glad you found the light ^_^

rufson 2020-04-21 21:47

Scary vibe, like good old resident evil game with a static camera raises the climatey. Good interiors, textures, lighting and this sweet dog breaks the surroundings.

d1str4kt0r 2020-04-21 21:50

- nice graphics - you play as a dog - you PLAY AS A DOG - YOU CAN PLAY AS THE DOG!!! 5 stars mood, fun, graphs, audio!! thank you for this

d1str4kt0r 2020-04-21 21:52

- nice graphics - you play as a dog - you PLAY AS A DOG - YOU CAN PLAY AS THE DOG!!! 5 stars mood, fun, graphs, audio!! thank you for this

peachtreeoath 2020-04-21 23:08

Heh, I'm happy to see other people here are avoidant of horror games. I was hesitant to play at first but I was like nahhhh, these people made On the Fly, there's NO way there's a jumpscare in this lol.

So for my first playthrough I ran around lighting things up properly. The purple glowing doors really confused me, I figured they would open up eventually, but the further I got, the more I questioned if I was playing correctly. I didn't pick up on the light duration as an indication of the correct path to go. I thought I needed an item or upgrade to progress through there (similar to the purple doors) so I made a mental note of it and moved on. Ultimately the thing that did me in was that I thought I had seen the same hallway a few times and was going in a circle in a haunted house. Given my previous confusion in the above notes, I thought I was playing incorrectly and exited.

I read up on the comments here and once I realized there were only 4 floors, I fired it up again and finished it. This is not any bad criticism of any kind, I hope I could outline the thoughts going through my head and what may have gone through the heads of other players. The concept is very intriguing and there really isn't similar gameplay out there (I could be wrong, I do stray away from horror after all lol). The atmosphere most reminded me of the early basement scene in To The Moon. Don't want to spoil it if you haven't played it, but it has an amazing effect of revealing the contents of a basement similar to this game. Also, you get bonus points for creating a nice LD page itself. Creating a little story out of the gifs and markdown was pretty clever.

fat-cat 2020-04-22 00:56

I got too scared so I had to quit, 10/10 atmosphere though, love the artwork too. The dog is very cute. Really nice game!

massealex 2020-04-22 01:43

Fantastic mood well done! An ending sequence would have been nice though!

fever-dream-ben 2020-04-22 06:03

Dog slides around ground, go bark, ye

junebug 2020-04-22 08:26

Ghost guy is my friend now, he gets me through the hard times.

wearedev 2020-04-22 08:48

This was by far the craziest game I played this Ludum Dare The dog graphics were really cute, the game idea was clever, the haunting atmosphre was simply awesome and the game was overall quite challenging. I actually had to read the hints on the page to beat the game, on my first tries I got stuck in one of the first basement rooms with lights off and thought I broke the game since good boy won't bark anymore.

I loved this game, kee up your great work Thank you for creating this ^^

~ MinorSeven from WeAreDev

emperor-eagle 2020-04-22 08:53

Liking the sounds and mood! Good game and great graphics!

grizzliusmaximus 2020-04-22 08:54

The atmosphere and camera angle of this game make it feel like some old Resident Evil Game and I like it!!! I was kinda confused what to do though and got lost but I had a fun time (and a bit scared) going around the beautifully made house! Thanks for making this!

jk5000 2020-04-22 09:22

The graphics, animations, sounds and atmosphere is all really good. I would have liked a bit more gameplay and/or perhaps some kind of story. Overall a very well made jam game. Well done.

thijs9907 2020-04-22 10:09

Good boy 10/10

nikchernyakov 2020-04-22 12:14

The graphics is fantastic, the dog is very cute, but the gameplay is a bit boring and audio is quite annoying. Want to hear some story of this doggy. Keep going!

bobost2 2020-04-22 13:06

Nice graphics :D

rusty-jim 2020-04-22 13:37

Absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this. The dog model is amazing. Was not expecting something so tonally similar to early Resident Evil games but there you go! Really creepy and atmospheric. I'll admit though, I got very stuck and lost. I had to read your hints here before I was able to finish it. ALtogether though, a great experience. You should be really, really proud of this one!

rebecca-harrison 2020-04-22 14:10

@rusty-jim thank you so much for the glowing review! We really appreciate it ;u;

rebecca-harrison 2020-04-22 14:12

@peachtreeoath thank you for the in-depth review :) We've been thinking about small ways to improve the experience and your input was very valuable in that effort. Also haha I'm glad you enjoyed the GIF story. I was proud of it ;P

dane-tesla 2020-04-22 14:48

The only thing this game is lacking is a tutorial in-game I think, some guidance (even like a pop-up comment when you run out of light: "When you run out of the light, talk to the ghost on the chair" or something. Overall it's amazing-looking and I loved the mechanics, mood and idea. I did get stuck on the lamps however, if you're going to patch it, I'd advise to add something like a "teleport to...." button so people can get un-stuck : D Great game!

edit: oh and I loved audio as well <3

aryanjumani 2020-04-22 17:56

Lovely AAA graphics! How did you make this in just 72 hours??? Anyways loved the gameplay! I found the light after an hour!!

rebecca-harrison 2020-04-22 18:02

@aryanjumani Haha sorry it took so long for you to find it ;P Glad you had fun though!

rebecca-harrison 2020-04-22 18:03

@dane-tesla We did consider pop-up text but felt it harmed the overall mood of obscure, creepiness. A teleport function would be a good idea haha

aryanjumani 2020-04-22 18:18

@rebecca-harrison It's a game with the best graphics so far!! How did you make the dog?

rebecca-harrison 2020-04-22 19:11

@aryanjumani I modeled, rigged and animated him in Blender 2.8 Doggo 3D model.png

aryanjumani 2020-04-22 19:16

Oh my god :astonished:. Last time I tried using blender, it lagged sooo bad, my laptop shut down...

fever-dream-johnny 2020-04-22 21:06

I kinda wish there were more to this game, the visuals caught my eye but playing it I found it hard to tell how it related to the theme of the jam. I should also say that you might want to increase the speed on the Quaternion.Slerp for the dog's rotation when walking, and I'm not sure but the barking animation seems to loop briefly before returning to the walk/idle animation? Either way, I can see the visual talents in the game.

masterpose 2020-04-22 21:08

This game has the best mood of all, the mystery is great and sometimes I thought it'll be a screamer or something xD. I didn't saw the description but I figured out that the time of the lights were a clue. Intuitive and mysterious, great game!

rebecca-harrison 2020-04-22 21:19

@masterpose So glad you liked it! Not everyone figures out the lights thing. We considered making it more obvious but we felt that having people figure it out for themselves was a better experience.

jvdwijk 2020-04-22 21:19

This was the best doggo, absolute best wroof wroof! The game was really fun, I could have used hint that the lights had to do with the path. loved it!

siryakko 2020-04-22 22:06

Really spooky ambiance, but got lost a lot. Loved the dog

finn-truman 2020-04-22 22:07

It certainly looks nice and manages to establish a tone and mood without words, which is impressive. But there isn't much substance to the actual "game". It's unfortunately nothing beyond a maze, and there isn't a mystery to discover. And the lamp needs some more feedback on what purpose it serves. I got it in my head that it loses power when you bark. "The amount of time the light stays on" as an indicator for the correct path doesn't work too well because we have no comparison for a normal rate of dimming, so you wouldn't notice if it was getting darker faster.

graebor 2020-04-23 02:16

Top notch atmosphere and visuals :) The only thing that bugged me was I wish I had a bit more mass to push the lights around - I had a couple of cases where I knocked one over and blocked myself from entering a doorway :P Great work though, you ended up adding so much over the course of the jam!!

herniewise 2020-04-23 03:29

Great atmosphere and mood, had to get back here and read how to progress tho. I feel... stupid haha

ryulan 2020-04-23 04:38

I was too scared to continue playing at some point - but! The graphics were top-notch, and the way the lamps light up in the dark is beautiful. If it was easier to walk over knocked down lamps, that'd be great, but overall, the dog was really well done, and the little sound effects continued to pull you in and in and in. Amazing work for such a short time frame!

jishin 2020-04-23 09:29

Visually amazing, in only 72 hours you did an incredible job. Possibly, the only thing I would change is the ending, to wink a bit more about the theme, although that could reduce the imagination impact on the player. Other than that, really impressive!

pl4typus 2020-04-23 10:55

Man, with your teasing of the good doggo I never thought it would turned out so gloomy. Felt a vibe kind of like in those caves in Ocarina of Time with those spooky guys jumping on you (except this time they chill on a chair ... Meh). Nice job. The hints about the right path could be more obvious tho.

kyrio 2020-04-23 13:20

Impressive game for a jam, the graphics, animation and mood are extremely polished. I don't think it's very obvious what the game is about and I must say I'm still a bit puzzled, but it was an interesting experience

un-ornithorynque-dans-la-piscine 2020-04-23 13:20

This dog really really like to push lamps around xD but it was fun!

chocolat-endive 2020-04-23 13:56

Aaaaw always love some good dogs. I'll try it as soon as I'll can use a windows computer.

lungtakumi 2020-04-23 14:11

Great graphic and mood. But I can't play any longer, it's so scared.

matheusborba 2020-04-23 14:16

good game

aaranos 2020-04-23 14:21

I like the atmosphere, but I wandered around for at least 10 minutes. Couldn't figure out what to do, the glowy doors seem important but there was no way to interact. It could use some kind of clues as to what you are meant to be doing.

maqo12 2020-04-23 14:56

What a professional game! I loved it. The atmosphere is really creepy. I think you shuold put a tutorial menu or something like pop ups. Maybe you could add an horror mode as an extra mode. At the overall the game is awsome

overmolo 2020-04-23 15:10

Nice enviroment and atmosphere! But i didn't understand what to do. I went to a room and my light dissapear. I couldn't bark and I have find the next room in darkness. I found a guy and my light came back... I'm not sure if this was part the story...

rebecca-harrison 2020-04-23 16:13

@aaranos There are some hints here on the LDJam game page:

There are three levels of basement. You need to keep going down. The amount of time the lights stay on is a clue you’re on the right/wrong path. If your light goes out, talk to the ghosts.

@overmolo Yes that is absolutely part of the game :) Each of your barks uses up the light on your lightbulb. You refill it with the ghost people.

sklaiser 2020-04-23 16:15

Nice atmosphere :D, gave me a little fear

daria-toni 2020-04-23 16:16

I almost got lost and wanted to give up, and then the game brought me to the beginning (and the end). I really liked the visual and sound design. Sometimes it was even scary a bit! Unfortunately, I didn't fully understand the plot idea of the game and didn't notice whether the light affects something or is it just a maze. Anyway, good entry!

rebecca-harrison 2020-04-23 16:18

@daria-toni Glad you liked the visuals :) The lights stay on longer when you're on the right path, and are shorter on the wrong path.

huddybuddygreatness 2020-04-23 16:46

Doggo is very cute, this game has the best ambience and mood I have seen in a while. The game felt very nice and the lighting was brilliant. Very creative idea and my favorite game so far!

tricky-fat-cat 2020-04-23 19:21

A very pculiar game. It looks gorgeous and the atmosphere is incredible. I love the light mechanics it's pretty smart part of the core gameplay. Nice work.

coolguy6316 2020-04-23 19:24

Amazing game :o loved the ambience and the doggy! great job :D

joemid 2020-04-23 19:52

I really appreciate how you achieved "hard to play" on so many levels, but I still was determined to go through it. Personally, I find this to be a really sad game. But, I'm filling in the blanks. The worst kind of horror. Love the graphics and light effects. Style and feel reminded me of Inside, but with a much more hopeful ending- maybe... I was going to post my favorite image, but I'll leave it up to everyone else to find. Fantastic work, you two, as always. Thank you so much for the experience!

rebecca-harrison 2020-04-23 20:07

@joemid Thank you so much for playing! Yeah the story is definitely up to your interpretation, and even we developers don't have a cohesive idea of what it is. However, that's what I like about it. Everyone has their own idea.

dylan-fries 2020-04-23 20:12

Very beautiful graphics! Nice and atmospheric!

artist-hidihojoe 2020-04-23 20:27

really nice idea with these lamps and ghosts! but its really annoying to walk through the dark :D

rebecca-harrison 2020-04-23 20:29

@artist-hidihojoe Thank you! Did you notice that some rooms stay lit for longer? That is a clue if you're going the wrong way, so you don't have to go in the dark :)

artist-hidihojoe 2020-04-23 20:45

@rebecca-harrison No i didnt, thx for that tip! But i managed to find the final door :)

max-louis 2020-04-23 21:30

This was so spooky! My girlfriend played this (she loves dogs) and she had to exit and she found it too spooky haha, so that tells me you smashed the mood and audio element! Absolutely fantastic models and art. I think if anything, it would be amazing if there were 'hints' along the way - having so many different rooms was very impressive but was a bit overwhelming! I know working out the mystery is the best part, but the option to have hints would be awesome. Really great work, you guys must be super happy :)

taffyko 2020-04-24 01:34

oh this entry is wonderfully moody and surreal, just a bit enjoyably unnerving, and with an adorably animated dog to boot-- well done putting this one together!

chez3 2020-04-24 04:28

Very moody and wonderful. A bit janky to control with standard wasd. It definitely feels like it was made for joystick controls specifically, but I made do. It felt incredibly mysterious, and a bit spooky, especially when the dog whimpered, and I feel like that was the point, so you nailed the mood! fantastic job.

redbeard84 2020-04-24 05:17

I liked the slight spookiness of the game. Great work on the lighting, effects, modeling, and animation!

witdarkstar 2020-04-24 07:04

Really neat little game with a ton of mood. I loved the dog a whole lot and loved the interaction with the lighting.

stanleygray 2020-04-24 10:02

This is amazing. The core mechanic is very creative and contributes to the convincing mood and atmosphere. Great visuals and sound.

One side note, I'm not sure whether this was a "bad ending" or a bug, but after wandering the basement(s) for a while, I came to a dark room where I could no longer bark, and then when I entered the door in the back of that room, I seemed to fall down off the map into complete darkness...

krocomo 2020-04-24 10:14

Wow the mood and the graphics are amazing ! Great work ! I was genuinely scared, so spooky, love the vibe here ! As some other people said I too got confused on what to do or where to go and clearer guidance would really improve the experience. That said, the game is really impressive, awesome work !

ifidamas 2020-04-24 10:57

OK, supercute doggo wandering in a dark ambient theme? You got me immediately!

I loved it, even if I got totally lost. Gosh, I am really bad at this game. At least, I can admire the goodest boi.

[You]: create this wondeful game

[Me, playing it]:

team-wala 2020-04-24 11:59

The concept, graphics, sfx, vfx, the mood... everything is just brilliant. Love the way how the game proceeds and the atmosphere becomes spookier. Do check out our game if you have time. Would love to hear your comments on it. Have used HDRP for the graphics and effects.

jin9310 2020-04-24 12:46

On a technical level I am truly amazed what you have been able to achieve. There is no doubt that the quality is high! However I am bit missing the theme, as i wasn´t able to get to the ´fail state´ or to the keep it alive. Now that I am thinking of it, the dogs light is the one thing you need to keep alive? :) But this is hardly a complaint, because the atmosphere you were able to create is amazing! Great job. Thank you for this game

ecmjohnson 2020-04-24 15:49

Great atmosphere and really cool mechanic with the bark lighting the lamps! I struggled a bit to discover the goal, but I enjoyed that aspect of the game and didn't find it too hard to uncover. I wish that the mechanic with barking to light lamps tied more directly into gameplay (e.g. to keep track of places you've already been). I didn't realize that this was a signal of the direction to go until I read the description after I played.

savvu 2020-04-24 16:12

Came across your game on itch.io and had to check it out! The concept with the dog is amazing and the lighting effects are astonishing! Very well done and congratulations on this amazing game!

pomo 2020-04-24 17:44

Finaly played it! Best 3D animations this Ludun Dare so far! Great mood as well!

sharks 2020-04-24 18:12

That was so much fun! The mood was amazing and scared me a little... The sound effects were impeccable except for when the ambient loop came to an end, I enjoyed exploring but didn't enjoy this constant worry of am I missing something? Lovely game, lovely entry!

mykola 2020-04-24 19:34

Very impressive! Super innovative! The best mood, but missed some spooky music. Great job!

jmad 2020-04-24 20:37

What a mood you set! I liked the mysteriousness, and the fact that we have to find what's going on on our own.

simon-rahnasto 2020-04-24 22:41

I was so scared something bad was going to happen to the dog, thank you for not making that happen haha. The game had a really cool atmosphere, very eerie, almost scary.

My favorite part was flipping over lamps, made me feel like a real dog :dog:

Thanks to the hint that you wrote in the comment I was finally able to find the door that lead to victory. Great entry!

carlix 2020-04-24 22:52

Great atomsphere and cool, but I can't stop feeling the way the dog moves is kind of weird. I really like that it keeps you all the time waiting for something to happen and in tension, but sadly nothing happens, so I was kind of disappointed there.

I can't really see the theme anywhere, your light fading out is barely an excuse to fit the theme.

It was okay overall, thanks for the game!

meme-310 2020-04-25 01:28

I just went through each door but never win xD. maybe i'll try again later. I like the atmosphere , audio and graphics were amazing. Great job job.

artur-hawkwing 2020-04-25 01:39

Amazing graphics, and I loved how you played with lighting! Definitely on of the best games I've seen so far!

meme-310 2020-04-25 01:47

I just played it again HAHAHA and I WON yesss HAHA

g-a-gamestudio 2020-04-25 02:25

From what I have seen, I think the game is amazing, but next time can you make it for mac or make it a web build so I can play because I have a mac.

rebecca-harrison 2020-04-25 02:44

@meme-310 I'm so glad you found the exit!! Congratz!!

@g-a-gamestudio Actually we've been holding off on making a Mac build because we aren't able to get notarized by Apple's security. Do you find that most of the LDJam games are flagged by security? Is that normal and acceptable to players with Macs?

g-a-gamestudio 2020-04-25 02:54

Actually on mac there is a bypass feature that sometimes works.

g-a-gamestudio 2020-04-25 02:55

Sometimes when the message that tells you that the game can't be played pops up you can click the question mark and if the page that opens is not blank you can go to settings and bypass security to play mac game.

g-a-gamestudio 2020-04-25 02:56

One question I have is which engine did you use?

rebecca-harrison 2020-04-25 03:40

@g-a-gamestudio ah very interesting! We’ll see what we can do regarding a Mac build ^_^ and we used Unity.

g-a-gamestudio 2020-04-25 03:47

Oh, then I’m pretty sure you will be able to process a web build depending on your computer’s power

perpetuummobile 2020-04-25 03:48

It was fun to explore around knocking the lamps!

Great graphics and great atmosphere. Great dog too.

nutriz 2020-04-25 20:15

The work is huge on this game, great work ! A specialy liked the 3D assets and level design. Very polished game.

nathalia-hohl 2020-04-25 21:51

The art is amazing, as always. ;] The atmosphere was pretty immersive. I still felt the lack of more gameplay, though. Or a proper story, even if mechanics were still simple. Congratz on the modelling!

remco 2020-04-25 23:17

So impressed by the rigged model & the atmosphere.

I made it to the end without understanding the puzzle ... or rather, I thought that there would be more to it, so I was surprised to see ... the way out.

For me, the dog sometimes clips through walls. That is, it went next to a door rather than through it.

Thought I saw an object move without my (well, the dogs' anyway) involvement ... probably a lamp falling over in the near dark, but it was spooky as heck.

red-ash 2020-04-26 10:16

Really nice art and audio! I love the dog he is so cute with the bulb! I was weak i looked at the hints, i thought at first i was supposed to light all the lamps at the same time xD The strong point of this game is really its atmosphere, you did really great with it ! Impressive work well done!

blacksheepza 2020-04-26 12:59

The atmosphere in this game is awesome and well done for not only rigging/animating the dog but it seems like you made a bunch of content in terms of rooms! The dog sounds was a bit repetitive and jarring at times which sort of broke the atmosphere but everything else was great.

While I haven't managed to quite finish it yet, the game is really intriguing and I really want to find out what's behind those glowing doors!

Great job on creating this in a jam!

vex 2020-04-26 13:36

Fantastic atmosphere! As a dog owner with cats who keep knocking lights over, I felt right at home with this. Including the ghosts in the basement.

deathbysnail 2020-04-26 19:41

🐶💡!

rebecca-harrison 2020-04-26 20:48

@g-a-gamestudio So we tried to make a WebGL build but the basement came out upside down??? Maybe next time >_<

g-a-gamestudio 2020-04-26 20:57

@rebecca-harrison Yeah. Thank you for trying.

samsdevlog 2020-04-26 22:18

Loved the silent hill/resident evil look and feel to this game. One of the best entries for sure.

xel 2020-04-27 01:43

Amazing atmosphere. I went from a good boy to scared boy real quick once I entered the basement!

g-a-gamestudio 2020-04-27 02:25

@rebecca-harrison hey it is me again. I was wondering how you made the model for the dog. It looks amazing and I have got a innovative game idea involving a dog. It would really help.

zubspace 2020-04-27 20:17

The environment and atmosphere is amazing. The dog is cute. I got to the end, but, it was kinda pointless, I tought? Would have loved to learn more about the house, the dog and the ghosts.

rebecca-harrison 2020-04-27 21:05

@g-a-gamestudio I've put the dog model up on Sketchfab for free download :) It's got all the rigging and animation in there so hopefully it's helpful! [DogModel_Sketchfab.png](https://skfb.ly/6S66W)

@zubspace I'm glad you enjoyed it! Actually, we're working on a post-jam version with some story O_O

justin-toyo 2020-04-27 21:12

Enjoyed the game although it was a bit perplexing to figure out. Great entry though

g-a-gamestudio 2020-04-28 01:43

@rebecca-harrison you are one of the best people ever! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

analog-limb 2020-04-28 07:43

I liked your game and the atmosphere. Very spooky and with great potential for a horror game. The graphics are really well made and the dogs animations are cute. I felt lost after a couple of rooms in when my light went out. I kept trying to return to the surface but i was stuck on the stairs up. I loved the spooky character on the chair, gave me goosebumps when it moved. I think that's how it feels for a dog sometimes, lost in a human world looking for emotion.

rodrigo-denubila 2020-04-28 13:54

Amazing graphics! I liked a lot the mood of the game. But I confess that I get lost in the game. I didn't get what I had to do. With more work on game design this could be more clear. Good job!

attala 2020-04-28 15:13

As others have stated numerous times the graphics are top notch. You've created a very "moody" gameplay experience. Me and my daughter struggled to find out what to do, but we enjoyed it nevertheless :)

rebecca-harrison 2020-04-28 15:17

@attala :D I;m so glad you and your daughter enjoyed the game! We're working on a post-jam version that fixes many of the issues people have brought up, and makes it much easier to not get lost :P

2020-04-30 13:31

Creepy game. I included it in my Ludum Dare 46 compilation video series, if you want to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/U94ABx1ev3Y

morriekken 2020-05-01 15:16

I like the idea of playing dog a lot and this is what brought me to this game. Although it too creepy for my taste. I played on keyboard so controls were bit clumsy, but I expect this is quite normal. It wasn't clear for me at the beginning where I need to go and what to do, some hint on direction would be helpful. I got couple levels down and my light run out, which was sad.

hgcummings 2020-05-02 09:04

Absolutely brilliant mood and graphics. Wonderfully atmospheric game. I have to admit I needed the hints in the comments to make much progress. I'd guessed that visiting the ghost friend recharged the lamp/bark, but hadn't clocked the significance of how long the lamps lit up for. I did get a "I don't want to be here" vibe from the rooms that only lit up very briefly though, so I agree with the designer's preference for communicating this through feeling rather than words (which fits really nicely with the player avatar being a dog). Maybe just need to find a way to provide players slightly more of a hint without spelling it out.

I think the main reason I gave up on my first playthrough was actually that some of the rooms were a bit similar and I thought I was going in circles. Obviously the graphics and models are amazing for a single weekend build, but if doing more work on it, a bit more variety in the look and feel of the rooms would really help (and perhaps make it easier to figure out the lamp mechanic).

Would love to see this as a full length game with a fleshed-out story being slowly revealed throughout. I can imagine all sorts of powerful endings, and different ideas for the significance of the ghostly human. I could see this being a really beautiful piece of storytelling without using any speaking/writing.

fatpenguin 2020-05-02 10:25

Pretty little game and awesome mood. sooo much bloom ;) A very nice entry. I would have just a little hint at the beginning, like "try to figure out whats going on" or something like that ;D I really liked the artstyle, it looked like there's a deep story behind everything, the music was great too! i also deeply admire peope who rig and animate a whole character from scrach for a gamejam, as I know how much work that is ^^ (took me a complete day for our game, haha) The movement of the doggie was a bit off as in him moonwalking a lot, I think adjusting the movement speed in accordance to the animation would fix that (either make the speed lower, or scale the keyframes of the animation down if that would make the doggie too slow in your opinion) also I personally would make the whole dog prefab a little bit smaller. Would have been nice if you would've added an animation for him turning around/making a U-turn, but I know it's a gamejam, ain't nobody got time for that ^^ also a bit of collider madness, but again that's the gamejam vibe. tell me about it :D All in all a great little project, congrats on finishing your game you two! You can be proud of yourselfes

hereward 2020-05-02 13:33

The mood of this game is wonderful. I agree with @hgcummings that more variation in the interior would prevent players from feeling like they are going in circles.

The significance of the lamp duration was also lost on me - I _thought_ it was related to how bright my own light was. I think some sort of audio queue to indicate getting warmer (a pleasant, soothing sound) and cooler (a harsher, less pleasant sound) would subtly reinforce the hint.

The overall atmosphere is still really well created. I really enjoyed playing it.

cdunham 2020-05-06 21:02

Looked nice and had a really good mood! Ended up getting lost a lot and took me a few rooms to figure out I just had to keep moving and find an exit. Some of the lights had some wonky physics and the dogs head clipped through walls more than a few times, but it didn't detract from the game much. Good work!

joamd 2020-05-07 15:04

Amazing atmosphere, lovely graphics. I was spooked out was definitely expecting a jump scare xD. Nice idea, overall I liked it. About the theme is it about keeping the light alive?

rebecca-harrison 2020-05-07 15:46

@joamd thank you! :D And yep that was our interpretation of the theme

plutonium-powered 2020-05-07 16:25

Such a cute dog. How did you make him look furry like that?

rebecca-harrison 2020-05-07 17:00

@plutonium-powered I used transparent hair cards :) Doggo 3D model.png

f1krazy 2020-05-07 18:52

This really creeped me out, especially once the camera started flickering and glitching as you got into the lower levels. It seems to be a common theme that people got confused about which direction to go in, and how to refill their bulb - I for one thought that the idea was to light up every lamp in the room, and that would somehow unlock things? But it didn't work that way. The ending also confused me, but it sounds like that was intentional.

Definitely one of the more bizarre (and creepy) games I've seen in a Ludum Dare, but also one of the most graphically impressive. Great job!

weeping-rupee 2020-05-07 19:20

honest-dan 2020-05-11 18:16

I am sorry for getting your woofer stuck behind the chairs in that doorway :( the light faded... all too slowly... his echos fading... the room... black with darkness.

Loved many aspects of this though :D the visuals, the playable character, the lighting and mood. Good job! <3

rebecca-harrison 2020-05-12 13:43

@honest-dan Thanks Dan! No worries :P We made a post-jam build that helps out players who get stuck... but is also even spookier O_O Gonna release it after results drop

mika-la-grand 2020-05-12 18:26

The mechanic with the barking and the lamps is quite interesing. Though, it's pretty much game over when your light bulb runs out. I read the hints after playing the game, and I don't think that *talking to the ghosts* is an intuitive way to refill the bulb (after you run out of the pick ups). It's also impossible if you're in a room that doesn't have a ghost. Perhaps the bulb can just have a minimum amount of light in it. The falling over of the lamps is funny, but they do get in the way. It can sometimes be quite hard to spot the doors as well. I got pretty far I think (the camera effect got quite intense), but eventually ran out of light bulb juice.

rebecca-harrison 2020-05-12 19:27

@mika-la-grand thanks for playing! In the postjam build we made it so you have 20 seconds after running out of light, then you respawn at the beginning of the level. Hopefully it should solve people getting totally stuck haha. The new build should be up after the results drop.

2022-04-28 11:54

After that game, I stepped up the lighting in my house. By the way, it is better to choose LED lamps for lighting the house. At the moment, they are the most modern and reliable light sources. These lamps last up to 25 times longer than incandescent bulbs and consume almost 8 times less electricity. I was instantly lit, with almost no heat and no flicker as in this creepy game. The quality of light is as close to natural as possible. I always get my lamps here https://lightingandsupplies.com. What kind of light do you prefer, warmer or cooler?

2022-05-23 08:52

I love light games. They make you think about something great.

2022-05-23 08:52

Wow, this game looks great! I agree with the commenter above and say that the light games have a very deep meaning. We live our lives and often don't notice the little things that make up our world. Imagine what it would be like for us if we lived without light? It scares me to think about it that I'm afraid of the dark. I try not to get up at night, and in the evening, I turn on as many light bulbs as possible. To avoid overpaying for electricity, I installed LED bulbs. Even in my car, I ordered an LED strip https://www.amazon.com/car-lights-car-led-lights/dp/B09L86JRRM, so it would not be so dark in the interior.
