This games great! I love the sounds and the attention to detail... you really did a great work on some of the polish.

Very excellent job.

I loved the first few seconds of the game! The way the UI is implemented in the gameworld, the music, but it sadly crashes everytime I something on fire. :(

Loads of content in this one! Love that you got so many different mechanics in there, wish they we're combined a bit more though. The trees burning done felt a little bit slow but overall great effort! p.s. going to the "quit" button in web shows a big error message.

really cool! Wish you could control with arrow-keys too :)

I wasn't really sure what I was supposed to be doing at first, and I accidentally got out of bounds in the title screen area. But once I figured it out I really enjoyed it, its a fun game with a unique concept and cute graphics. Unfortunately, I accidentally threw my torch when I wasn't supposed to, and got stuck in a level.

miltage 2020-04-20 17:15

I really like how this one plays. I got stuck on a level with a large pool of water and a row of trees that I couldn't get past.

Simple pixel art and atmospheric music play together nicely here to create a simple puzzle game.

Nice game, I like the music and graphics! Wish there is a way to restart level, or did I just didn't see it?

greenduck 2020-04-20 17:26

Cool concept that can grow in interesting game, but there is something wrong with controls code. When I press left, then press right, then release left button - character stop, but right button still pressed

irwatts 2020-04-20 17:28

I really enjoyed playing this. The music and art went well together and created a unique feel. I did get stuck once, but pressing escape reset me and I was able to continue to the end.

I really like this! I really love how you teach the mechanics throughout the levels, and like David Bohan mentioned, there's some incredible attention to detail here. Very well done!

Hello everyone who has played Man Need Fire, I will be making some fixes soon to the crashes and bugs seen (ie Soft-locks). It is possible to press Esc to force restart a level.

What an amazing little game! The gfx, sfx and bgm (were the sequences randomized?) were all on point! You did a great job communicating detail in such a pixel constrained environment! Like miltage I got stuck on that same level, but my experience up to that point was great! I also appreciate the fact that you designed the first tutorial levels to teach the player the mechanics of the game. Overall, a great game! :raised_hands:

This is the best game on LD46 I played so far. Seriously, I was playing it and couldn't stop while Anna was watching over my shoulder. I got stuck on the same level as @miltage - I figured out solution but was already out of fire. Still I really enjoyed playing it!

I like how you teach how to use different game mechanics but still leave room for experimenting and trying to find solution. And music with effects, oh it transformed me back to 800XL and C64 times :D

Amazing game! It's impressive that you took the time to design that many levels. I really like the artwork and puzzle concept!

Fantastic work @abrds. I love what you did with the theme, choosing an abstract concept of "alive" with fire and putting it into practice literally, while also implying that it's to keep the man alive at the same time.

The art is fantastic, the music and sound effects fit well, the game plays pretty great overall other than some minor collision jank.

Like most great entries the only thing this is truly lacking is polish, but that comes with the territory of being made in less than 48 hours so what can you do.

All in all it's fantastic.

tudvari 2020-04-22 12:33

Really cool explore & adventure game, I always love the feeling of exploring new mechanics and using them to solve a level.

Sadly I got stuck on this level, my torch got burn out before it could reach the trees, and I couldn't go back the previous levels for fire. Maybe I will try again.

Having a "restart from last checkpoint" functionality would have been great: if I'm too much in the game, and then fail, I don't want to start it from all over again.

Anyway, nice entry, was fun to play, and had a great vibe. The interactive starting level was a great feature!

abrds 2020-04-22 13:41

Hey @tudvari, that's an interesting bug, could you tell me if you had restarted any other level? A restart level checkpoint should appeared, and Im curious as to why that happened!

tudvari 2020-04-22 13:46

@abrds Hmm restart level checkpoint?

asdads.png

On every level I can only see the forward circles. I played the WebGL version.

sledzik 2020-04-22 13:57

6 this is the number of space u have to click to beat the game

abrds 2020-04-22 14:59

@tudvari I've discovered the bug actually, I will update soon. Though the checkpoint would only appear if your fire has gone out, and are unable to move forward, there are levels where it is not possible to fail, like the one you've shown in your last image. The first image, you indeed experienced a bug. You are able to press the Esc key to force a level restart though, but this is more of last resort, as the feature is supposed to be the in level checkpoint.

tudvari 2020-04-22 15:37

@abrds Okay, thanks, when the update comes, I'll try again!

johnnysix 2020-04-28 00:25

Very cool, and a lot of gameplay for a 48h compo entry. Really nice puzzles , and the intro/title/tutorial screen combined was very clever. Keep it up!

psychedelia 2020-05-10 18:28

Hey, really cute ending, man have fire! I enjoyed the puzzle ideas, throwing of the torch expecially - there seems to be a lot of space to go further! although the levels could be a bit harder. gotta suffer for that fire. Verz nice soundtrack, fits perfectly. Thanks!
