LD24 — Evolution

Cubevo by NostraDamon 2012-08-28T14:25:00

Great game. I especially enjoyed the music changing over time as the world grew more and more evolved. It was a little frustrating that I got so far before finding out that clicking on an already evolved block caused it to waste a gem.

Helix - A DNA Editor / Creature Platformer by hirsch 2012-08-28T22:21:00

Great game! Some bugs in level transitions but overall brilliant. The DNA sequence editor was a neat death bonus!

Badass by Sos 2012-08-27T02:17:00

Though the game's theme wasn't really about evolution (although it was about procreation which is related) the game's levels evolved over time. The humor was also brilliant!

Natural Selection - You vs the World by DigiTec 2012-08-31T03:06:00

Brilliantly executed natural selection concept.

Cube Miner: The Evolution of the Cubindustry by draxov 2012-08-27T02:15:00

Suprisingly fun, however it doesn't really follow the theme with any backstory or mechanics. Successfully wasted 40 minutes on this one. :D

Additive by Desi Quintans 2012-08-27T02:20:00

The way the colours merge is like merging chromosomes, which is cool. This is a great little puzzle game, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Evo Space by edibletoaster 2012-08-28T15:54:00

Awesome. Loved that you could grab guns in any direction, letting you hit enemies at difficult angles easier.

Gobblegoks: Evolution by pighead10 2012-08-28T15:45:00

Nice one. The collision on the projectiles could be a little tighter, not being able to shoot aroung them easily is a bit of a pain, but once you get the hang of it it's not so bad.

LD38 — A Small World

The Shifting Catacombs of Mu'ralagh by Madgvox 2017-04-24T07:14:35Z

Fantastic. The drop shadow could be more visible when jumping over water, but once you get a handle on the movement (which happens very quickly) it's not such a big deal.

The art has loads of character. Plenty of variation in the world art which is really nice. The effect when the world is changing is very cool.

The noise of the constantly changing spike path at the end is a bit grating but otherwise the sounds were great.

LD46 — Keep it alive

Something Magical by wasd 2020-04-25T10:31:07Z

Lovely idea and fantastic execution.

I feared I might get stuck between trees a handful of times but luckily that didn't happen.

I didn't think I'd get all 3600 plants but I found it very cathartic to just stroll around and fill in all the missing spaces until there were none left.

Emergency Override by Listonos 2020-04-20T04:25:08Z

I almost failed until I realised the binary on the left is not just a decoration!

Great concept and voice acting.

Keep It Alive by danman9914 2020-04-25T08:12:28Z

This game was absolutely fantastic. Possibly the best game of the whole compo.

I'd love to see you push this a little further post-LD. There are so many possibilities with player choice and story and progression and the like.

Blightstone by Nimphious 2020-04-18T03:54:14Z

Some early art:

Blightstone by Nimphious 2020-04-27T05:07:27Z

Hey @jsmailes thanks for the heads up. I thought I fixed that but I guess my provider was just garbage so I switched it to AWS.

Flatline by _D4RKJU4N 2020-04-24T02:32:15Z

The movement is so fast and erratic that it was difficult to notice the movement speed difference. Also it's not really explained and there is no feedback but you can't open other green boxes to search once you pick one up which confused me at first since it happened a few times when openeing a door and a box at the same time, I thought it was a bug.

The music is repetitive but fits the feel you were going for I think.

Interesting concept overall. A very small amount of story might have made it more engaging.

Battery Panic by HacksawUnit 2020-04-25T09:01:48Z

This is such a great starting point for a really nice puzzle game. The chain mechanic is quite interesting, and extending that by keeping disconnected segments alive as long as you're still connecting to them could be a great way to increase the bonus when it finally reconnects.

Omiga Daycare by Wheffle 2020-04-22T11:37:08Z

I wrote off the tamagotchi/digimon idea of the theme because I thought it was low hanging fruit.

You ran with that idea and took it to a place I would never have thought to, and it's fantastic!

I love how quickly everything goes wrong when you have just a few too many to take care of.

I made $4150 on my first try! I have no idea if that's good or not hahaha.

Monolithique by Jajakeim 2020-04-20T02:35:46Z

Love the 1-bit style. The difficulty kind of quickly spikes super hard at one point but otherwise really solid.

Suggestion for a post-compo change: Set a spawn limit that ramps up over time alongside the spawn rate, and only spawn new enemies if the cap hasn't been reached yet, should lessen the sudden and intense death spiral and smooth out the difficulty curve a bit.

Enduring Toddel by WhyNotYT 2020-04-24T02:39:02Z

This is great. Perfect stress simulator hahaha.

Great job finishing.

Robot Tale by Majadroid 2020-04-20T02:44:30Z

The movement is super finnicky but the idea is great and the game is pretty fun.

Also spooky big guys holy gee let's go.

The Core by NoobException 2020-04-20T02:20:51Z

Love the minimal aesthetic. The responsiveness issue is basically the only gripe I have with this.

As for bugs, there was one instance of an enemy spawning off in the far north and I never saw them appear.

Great work and congrats on finishing.

theColony by falstro 2020-04-26T00:31:49Z

Was great. Stopped being able to play when the UI for a planet broke and I was unable to close it because the button ended up below the bottom edge of the screen. Had fun up until then though. I spent so many points on engines trying to find interesting planets!

WALL-E get the water! by SideKick 2020-04-20T03:56:24Z

Very cute game. Just managed to finish the last level too. The soundtrack is great.

Man Need Fire by ABRDs 2020-04-22T10:19:10Z

Fantastic work @abrds. I love what you did with the theme, choosing an abstract concept of "alive" with fire and putting it into practice literally, while also implying that it's to keep the man alive at the same time.

The art is fantastic, the music and sound effects fit well, the game plays pretty great overall other than some minor collision jank.

Like most great entries the only thing this is truly lacking is polish, but that comes with the territory of being made in less than 48 hours so what can you do.

All in all it's fantastic.

Tumbleweed by Brenan 2020-04-21T17:40:31Z

This game is truly fantastic, you guys should be proud of your work and for having completed in the 72h time limit, also.

The only real suggestion I can think of right now is having the wind direction influenced by the surface the cursor's location, eg when going up a ramp, moving the mouse along the ramp the wind would follow it but instead it simply follows the cursor's ray vs a ground plane.

It's a minor gripe and once you understand how it works you can adjust, but for such a minimal input scheme I think polishing it in ways like this really make it play that much better.

Once again fantastic work.

Look back by Fables 2020-04-27T05:36:28Z

Fantastic work. You got so much done in the 48 hours.

You captured such an intense mood with comparatively little dialogue or exposition. Your world building was great. I loved all the little touches like the increasing apparent wealth and grandeur of the Mayor and his family at the expense of everything else.
