Heyo Hacksaw!
So, a little bit of feedback!
Feel free to ignore most of the things due to jam scope etc, but as always I’ll give feedback considering you’ll work on it after the jam.
Could’ve been better: - Hard to learn. The first experience with the game was really confusing, I was trying to build lines as Tetris since this was the concept I had in my mind for the aesthetics of your game. - The new level SFX doesn't sound like a victory, so I always thought I lost the level because I reached the line, and the game restarted. - A tutorial would be great, and by tutorial I mean anything that slowly teaches you how to play giving you room for error. You probably have more batteries later on, but it was still a bunch of info to understand and retain.
Good points: - Web build, so I don't have to download anything, yay - Nice audio - Nice art
I mostly stopped of playing it because I didn't understand. As advice try to avoid the lack of understanding of how your game work, you're probably aware of that, otherwise you wouldn't write the how to play and hint section. But yeah, that’s it!
Hope that helps, and if you happen to update this game, come back here in your comment section to remember me and drop me a tweet or something!
If you have time, please click on my profile and give me some constructive feedback on my game (:
See ya!
Wow great game!
Pretty hard to learn/get the hang of - had to restart a few times before I "got" it.
Can't help but want to see the battery chain have more...oomph. For example, seeing a sort of electrical chain and having those high voltage sounds as the power builds up.
Also, maybe I am too used to playing tetris, but I felt rotating pieces/placing them were a bit harsh, would have preferred more leeway/sliding.
Overall, while i love the concept, and its decently fun, I feel it could be wayy more sastifiying/fun with just a bit more work/polishing.
This is brilliant! Once you get the hang of this you can really see the depth- this is a puzzle game where the 'blank' blocks are actually a blessing, and can prop up your future work. I like what you did making the negative side always the same color, it becomes instinctual after a bit. Think I was able to safely get to level 5 after LOTS OF TRAINING trying to get good, as I am not very adept at these sorts of games. Also smashing music and art of course, really has a peppy vibe.
Brilliant take on Tetris! It takes a while to avoid the aim of clearing lines and strategically place batteries in not only the right location but the right way around. The graphics look really good too! Great work!
Great submission! I totally think you could take this idea further.
It took me a moment or two to figure out the efficient way to do things, but once I did it was so great - so much game juice and polish! I can't get enough of this electric Tetris goodness!
Really nice twist on Tetris-like games, I didn't get the idea of building a "snake" at first, so I just made straight towers, but had fun nonetheless
Very fun, if you put this on phones I would probably play it!
If you had made this 6 years ago I'd play this 2 hours a day on the train while commuting to work ! This... is ... GOOD ! Would you consider a mobile version? The premise seems a bit complex at first, but ones you get the intention, it's a little nugget of gold :)
A very creative twist on the whole 'Tetris'-Genre. Quite addictive and if you develop it further I'd love to see what this game could be. Great job!
Got up to level 18 without rotating. I didn't realize you could rotate up until reading the controls section after playing the game! Best to communicate the controls in the game :).
Other than that, pretty solid art, music. The gameplay wasn't particularly captivating but it did get a bit interesting as everything sped up. At that point I had to develop a new strategy for dealing with the speed!
Nice. Not sure if I didn't play long enough but I wish there was more than one charging plate at the bottom, especially on lower levels. Made it up to 10... that was FAST. Good fun!
I like the idea, execution, art, sound effects. I really want to love the game. I very much enjoy all tetris-style games, and this looks like very creative take on the genre.
But the controls are so non-standard it drains most of enjoyment from it for me. Although you don't mention it anywhere, I think it is no secret that this game is very similar to Tetris, where the standard controls are almost opposite to your controls. After countless tens of hours of playing Tetris, I have standard Tetris control scheme deep in my muscle memory unfortunately, and even after several minutes of playing, I keep pressing up arrow trying to rotate the block and mess up my play area, or press space to hard drop, messing up also. Although there is not "standard Tetris controls comittee" or anything like it, extremely common scheme is up for rotate, down for soft drop and space for hard drop. Adjust the control scheme to match at least those, and I would love to come back and give it another go. I am not rating the game just yet.
I know it is silly, I know I sound arrogant and sassy, but just the control scheme is a huge problem I have with this game and a deal-breaker for me.
I agree with others that that the controls could use some reworking, as well as the communication to the player as to what is going on. Nice visuals. It sounds good, but the sounds don't sound like what they indicate. I only got level 10...
Very fun game, the vivid colors and music compliment each other perfectly. I personally had no issues with the controls, and I'd definitely be interested in seeing it after some rebalancing to encourage more elaborate shapes and chains. My best was level 25 (I made to around 18 and when it started to get too fast, I just mashed space until my battery was drained).
v fn gud job
The game is engaging and fun thanks to a very clever tetris-like game mechanic. The way the game connect with the theme is also very clever and shines in the middle of hundred of escape/farming/bodygard... games.Indeed, a proper score system would be a nice feature for a next version.
I love this idea, haven't seen a twist this good on tetris before! And you've done it really well and with awesome graphics
Cool puzzle game, and a good interpretation of the theme! The audio was also really good! Overall, this is a really good Compo entry!
I love tetris game, and this is a good take of it. It's pretty satisfying to play too...
Fun execution on a great idea! Very clever twist, a cool interpretation of the theme, and nice tunes to play in the background as well. Controls were somewhat difficult to learn, but the rest more than makes up for it - good job!
I reached the level 22, and it was fun! Even if I had to play a little before I understand the purpose  Well done!
This is great! Because it is so different from tetris (which it obviously looks like at first glance), the things that bumped for me were that I had to drop the first battery on the source in the right direction to get it to light up. Making that more obvious could help first time players. I also felt like most of the pieces I was getting in my first couple rounds were already in the right orientation, so I just dropped them in a straight line to beat the level. Thanks!
@boltkey Sorry for the control issues. I was basing my controls off of common console controls for 'Tetris'-like games- it is very common for 'up' to be a hard drop in these contexts. The game is set up to have rebindable keys, but I didn't have time to add that unfortunately. Thank you for the feedback!!
This is a very fun (and original) version of a block falling game. The controls choice felt awkward, and I kept pressing no matter how may runs I played, the key up to rotate the peaces, ruining a lot of levels. Also the score systems per levels is no the most exciting. Apart from that the bit feel, the colours, the music and sound effects are super polished and consistent. Excellent job, had a lot of fun and probably play times (it would be lovely to see an expanded version of this game with more possibilities for combos (the only thing I missed, but the lack of it didn't make the game worse)).
Playing this game is like eating rainbow sherbet but for your eyes and ears instead of your taste buds. But also dang does it get tense. I got to level 12 a couple times but was unable to progress any further. Dat music doe. 25_3. so goood.
Tetris-likes are always a fun puzzle type game to make, I also tried my hand at a tetris spin off a few years ago and had a blast making it.
I know you said you didn't have time for it but having a scoring system would be amazing for this game.
Great concept! Had a lot of fun with it :D
I gave the game another go. As all the batteries have the same starting orientation (why is it different that the orientation of the "next:"), it seems like the best strategy is to play without rotating and always place the block above the start spot - I got to level 45 using this strategy, and it was not very fun, while I was able to get to level 15 tops using "normal" strategy.
I like the concept, but the battery rewards definitely need some tweaking for the game to be fun.
So much fun, I love it!
Similar to Tetris, I think you could become really good at this! As you've mentioned on the itch page, a proper scoring system would be nice, although the level number does the trick too.
One problem I have, is that it seems like my inputs don't register sometimes or feel laggy. I think this has to do with the web version. Any chance you could build some executables?

Anyways, another awesome entry. I'm having a lot of fun with this!
Great twist to a simple game! I'm already a fan of your work, you do neat games! This one is pretty hard! Love the aesthetics and the concept. Good job!
This game is so simplistic yet so much fun, i bet if you had a bit more time to get a scoring system and tutorial down this game would be true amazing. well done on makeing us all happy. :3
Great concept and execution
Very cool take on the theme, as always. A bit mind-bending, as at first glance it feels like it should be Tetris but the actual game play is very different.
The speed ramp-up is maybe a bit too aggressive - getting to the frantic pace is good fun, but it felt like it happened before I could really get a handle on what I was supposed to do.
I love Tetris, and this hit the spot! I got to level 29. It seems like it's possible to game the system by just vertically stacking, maybe filling the board could be made more profitable to balance that out? I also think it would be cool if unused batteries stayed active for longer so you could make extra long combos. Quite fun!
Really interesting take on a classic formula. The reversal of the traditional mechanics really tripped me up at first, especially trying to hit the connections between the batteries correctly. But it once all starts clicking, it becomes a very addictive and fast-paced score chaser experience with a weirdly strategic layer over the top. The art and audio were a little rough but hey it's a compo entry! Would be very interested in seeing more of this funky little arcade game.
love tetris, nice art style!
I love the concept of the game. It felt a little bit to difficult and I had the feeling that the phone wasn't charging up too much even though I built a very long battery chain. But Overall good job! :)
A very clever and interesting take on the theme. I thought the art and music were very well done, and just added to my enjoyment of playing. I feel like the battery was draining a little too fast and when completing a chain it felt like the reward was not enough. Is the reward based on the length of the chain? If it is then it would make sense as to why I was only getting a little bit of a charge. Overall though the game was fun and enjoyable to play.
Awesome visuals and super smooth game-play! Really enjoyed the game! Great Job
Great game, nice music and pretty graphics! Got to level 15 :)
I wish there was a more robust score system, or a global leaderboard. The controls are very confusing, especially after playing a lot of tetris. Alternative control schemes or even key rebinding would have been helpful. More involved combo chains could have been interesting, though I'm not sure how they could be implemented. Also not sure how I feel about the "surprise" drops, it messes up the flow of the game a little bit.
This is such a great starting point for a really nice puzzle game. The chain mechanic is quite interesting, and extending that by keeping disconnected segments alive as long as you're still connecting to them could be a great way to increase the bonus when it finally reconnects.
This is super cool! I'm a big Tetris fan and this was a great twist - great graphics, execution and music. For some feedback:
* It took a fair while for me to understand that I was supposed to go past the Safety level if I blew the chain, as well as to power the phone * A high score system would be great, and for bigger combos to add exponentially more power (and visual effects) * I could go on for a long time just building upwards towards the Safety level and ignoring builiding any chains - this only really stopped working once the game got too gast. * It's likely just practice but it's much harder to play than Tetris at higher speeds - hopefully incentivising chains more and adding a scoring system would help with this! * Any reason you didn't include more of the classic Tetris shapes? It gets a bit hard building dense chains with just straight shapes, but perhaps that's the point!
Cool game. Visuals are neat, gameplay has an interesting twist. I'll add your game to my list) https://wans24.itch.io/he-needs-healing/devlog/140983/what-ludum-dare-46-did-to-me
Great work. Could maybe be simplified e.g. removal of saftey limit so endless charger chains, allowing the removal of the need to clear the screen. Automatic charging of phone and depletion of new batteries.
Also dropped batteries should keep their shape then more complex moves ahead power chains can be created. Even dud batteries could allow for reconnection a power chain.
Nice spin on a old game, good fin to play!
Thanks for submitting your game for me to play on my livestream!
