LD46 — Keep it alive

Baby, please don't break my hearts by Stadoblech 2020-04-21T21:35:17Z

I really enjoyed this, but it can get boring somewhat quickly, since there's no discernible difficulty increase throughout the game. I was playing for 7 minutes and 30 seconds and died intentionally because I was bored. If the difficulty was gradually increased, I know for a fact I would have kept playing, and probably even spent the next hour or so doing it. The graphics are okay, they're very simplistic but the mix with the simple mechanics and amazing retro sound design make them feel a lot more appropriate, despite their simplicity. I would, however, consider adding some more visual representations for the score. As I was playing I found myself wishing for a little text box showing how many rockets I had killed at that moment. I then realized you can see it when the game is over, but still, would have been interesting to see it in real time. Combos for destroying rockets in a certain sequence could also be very interesting. Overall, I think this is a very good entry, well done! Also, you should consider porting this for mobile, I bet it would be really interesting to play this with a finger instead of a mouse!

Sorry! I didn't know itch.io defaulted pages to not be public, my bad.

@somethinboutgames Thanks for your feedback! I do have a tendency to make games that lean on the unforgiving side, so I'll totally take that in consideration in the future. I don't really like to make easy games, but it's key to strike a balance, which clearly is not always the easiest thing for me :grimacing:

@fabula-rasa usually, the daughter follows your x-axis positions, so if you were to jump back, in theory, everything would be back to "normal", but nevertheless, I should put some checks to prevent this type of behaviour. Thanks for the feedback!

And about the arm thing... that was a last minute panic decision because I totally forgot to create a sprite for the gun, and for some reason my exhausted brain found it hilarious :D

OtherworldlyFlavors by erebus 2020-04-21T10:04:35Z

This one really took me by surprise. I was expecting some sort of boring plant watering simulation when I saw the start of the game, and then the choices kicked in and I was amazed. It feels very polished and the interpretation of the theme was really clever, nicely done!

Really really really really cool. The initial cutscene is hilarious and the leaderboards were a nice touch. I kinda suck at it (using my laptop's track pad certainly didn't help), but I'm totally coming back to this and conquering those leaderboards

The Last Guardian by civmaniac 2020-04-23T12:25:45Z

I really like the concept. The mechanics are simple but pair very well together, and the graphics are cute and consistent, which ties the game up very nicely. Well done!

Man Need Fire by ABRDs 2020-04-20T17:36:24Z

I really like this! I really love how you teach the mechanics throughout the levels, and like David Bohan mentioned, there's some incredible attention to detail here. Very well done!

Memories by Artaupossum 2020-04-20T17:21:28Z

I love the art style, the contrast in colors is just perfectly calibrated, and the pixel art is simple, but well constructed enough to paint a clear picture of what the world looks like. I really wish this was a bit longer, as I was playing it I was really excited to be playing it, and that sudden ending was a bit of a let down. But time is always a constraint, so I totally get why it ends like that.

Also, I really liked the interpretation of the theme, so kudos for your first game and game jam! I hope to see you around here for future events!

Human Apocalypse by Fathy Basha 2020-04-20T17:39:32Z

This is *really* cool, the dialogue made me chuckle a bit, and without spoiling too much, I love how the end plays out. Very well done :)

The Dark Cave by Tom Stephenson 2020-04-23T12:49:50Z

I really like the atmosphere and graphic style chosen, but the game feels slow, and without that much to do. It does remind me of Limbo, but Limbo keeps the pace up by throwing some puzzles in the mix. Maybe you implemented that in the later stages, but I didn't manage to get past the creepy spider thing, as it stayed right on top of my respawn location. Also, the light source got stuck in random places a few times. Overall, still a pretty good entry, well done :)
