Pixel art direction is cool and so is concept! Nice one!
Very addictive, crisp, fun and satisfying! I love the siplicity of the art style as well :D
Excellent game. Fun and fast. Add some levels. Sound and look are well done
Good action! And like start menu with jumping hearts )
Sick game, didn't think it was going to be that intense at first glance, I had a ton of fun!
I'd love to see the source code for this
@l4zza its not on repo or anything, maybe i clean it and push on github, i will see if i squeeze some free time
Simple and perfect! Very good job. I've protected my hearts fot about 3 minutes. Phew, my mouse wasn't happy.
Well executed simple retro game. Had a decent amount of fun with. Loved the pixel art and the inverted colours on bombs entering the arena. Not a lot bad to say. Could just be expanded further with extra mechanics, like weapons or shifting levels, etc.
I like the simplicity of aesthetic and gameplay and the fact that it's such a fun at the same time! Very juicy game! :)
Big chunky particles are awesome. Really fun game! Needs even more missiles though. Big missiles, fast missiles, loopy missiles
Great idea, great implementation! Bit too hard for my slow reflexes, but great fun nonetheless!
A really strong look! And fun gameplay that's easy to pick up. Would love to see more! Levels that move about, different enemy behaviour. Lots to love.
The music is WILD, the game is WILD - love it. Hectic, not standard, fast paced, loved it. Getting some retro chills on my skin :)
Great game! Loved the tempo of it, really fun to jump around super fast! Could do with some progression in the game making it harder over time if you plan on continuing on the game. However for a demo this was nice!
Really cool art and easy to understand gameplay. Awesome game
Amazing performance, quick and pleasant blowing up with cool physics, Animation rules refined in a minimalist form. solid work!
I really enjoyed this, but it can get boring somewhat quickly, since there's no discernible difficulty increase throughout the game. I was playing for 7 minutes and 30 seconds and died intentionally because I was bored. If the difficulty was gradually increased, I know for a fact I would have kept playing, and probably even spent the next hour or so doing it. The graphics are okay, they're very simplistic but the mix with the simple mechanics and amazing retro sound design make them feel a lot more appropriate, despite their simplicity. I would, however, consider adding some more visual representations for the score. As I was playing I found myself wishing for a little text box showing how many rockets I had killed at that moment. I then realized you can see it when the game is over, but still, would have been interesting to see it in real time. Combos for destroying rockets in a certain sequence could also be very interesting. Overall, I think this is a very good entry, well done! Also, you should consider porting this for mobile, I bet it would be really interesting to play this with a finger instead of a mouse!
@thebaecun thanks for feedback. I havent got much time so its what it is. But im thinking about expanding it...
Good project! The biggest thing I can suggest is to iterate and add more things. New types of missiles/enemies, new levels, etc etc. The aesthetic and "game feel" are amazing!
Very responsive game! the controls and everything felt great! good job
Really nice short and precise game. Audio is superb, look is really nice, feels good :)
interesting idea nice execution
I like the style and the game is fun to play, good job!
fun juicy game
Feels good to play and I like all of the visual effects
If I had to explain your game with one word it would be: JUICE. By far the JUICIEST game I played in this jam, it has it all, SCREEN SHAKE ,CRUNCHY SOUNDS, SCREEN SHAKE. I really loved it but my only problem is that it doesn't get harder as time progresses so I would recommend putting a challenge like "beat this time xx:xx:xx with not hearts lost". Overall fun game with simple art style that reminded me of Bad Apple and Undertale.
I love this game, it doesn't need detailed graphics to get the point across. Everything feels so good, the movement of the hearts, the controls for the character. Great job!
Nice - this is fun and really cohesive!
Interestingly, this is the second "heartbreak"-themed game I've played from this LD, the other being [this.](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/heart-break)

The music and graphical style are really great here!
It resembles some obscure DOS-games from the 80's I used to play as a kid. (Games that were considered old already then!)
I like the fact that it spawns you in a random level every time you start.

I managed to last 3 minutes in this level, with only one heart majority of the time.
As much as I like the feel and style of the game, I had the same thought as @thebaecun that it gets boring quite fast.
And it's somewhat ironic that I find the game easier when I intentionally let most of the hearts die so I only have to protect one from the rockets.

Still, I think you could probably do really cool stuff with this entry as a basis. If you'd change the game-dynamics or the goal of the player somehow, it could also serve some other purposes. I encourage you to explore the possibilities of the engine you've built!
Keep making games!
Hello! Your game was played during my stream!
If you want to know the timestamp of when your game was played you can see it in this spreadsheet: https://tinyurl.com/yau8hjzn
And then look in my latest videos and find your game being play (after the current stream ends) https://www.twitch.tv/ursagames/videos
Cute and well polished game! I had trouble seeing the mouse cursor, so my strategy was to spam the mouse button a lot. It would help making it visually more prominent.
@loveapplegames i tried to contrast cursor as much as possible... but i know that some people can have problem seeing it or there are people with different kind of color blindness. If i will develop this concept, i will keep it on mind to adjust cursor visibility even more
Having to consider the physical position of your square to be able to attack was really interesting. If your hearts get too close to the sides sometimes the enemies can get to them before you have any chance to defend them. Maybe the enemies should only spawn in places where there at least some minimum distance away from the hearts. I suppose you're sort of able to control your hearts' position with the square, but it's really hard to do consistently so ensuring a certain amount of distance between the enemy spawn and the hearts would probably be good.
@scott-steffes im very aware of this problem. Im dealing with it right now since i found this "demo" quite enjoyable and im thinking about expanding it. Problem you described is pretty tricky since in new prototypes there are new content and new enemies and spawns which act little bit differently than rockets. But thanks for feedback, if i will build on it it will be handled (i hope)
Hellooo, this is such a simple fun idea. I think you did a great job at making the game pretty satisfying to play - love the effects, the music fits it well...I survived for 2 minutes and then smashed into my heart by accident - of course it flew right into a rocket! 10/10 would satisfy again
